AU WORKSHOP - NOVEMBER Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. AU NAME: STILL WORKING ON THIS...but he's not gonna keep the name Light. Who names their kid "Light". You can help me give your opinions!

1.) Hikari [光] - It literally means "light" or like a ray of light. But also his offspring is that name so idk.
2.) Akira [諦/明] - "truth, clarity" or "bright, light". Double amusing because "Kira" is in it.
3.) Satoshi [明] - Another reading of the same Kanji. And the name of that one Pokemon guy.
4.) Kaito [海斗/魁斗] - No actual interesting tongue-in-check DN reference. I just like the name. And it sounds like "Raito".

I may make his last name "Turner" for the lols.

AU OCCUPATION: God Graduate student, academic tutor, some sort of law intern, SWIMMING INSTRUCTOR?
BLURB:

✎ Born and raised in Seattle (haha) for the first part of his life, Light has always been an excellent student and the kind of "golden boy" that you want to hate but can't really because how can one person be so good at so many things. (But you still hate them a little.)
✎ Mother, at least, is Japanese since I'm going with a Japanese given name. Undecided about other side of family, but he speaks, reads, and writes Japanese fluently, as well as Spanish.
✎ Family may have moved to Recolle (depending on potential family member plotting below!) or Light is here for school/job opportunities.
✎ Kind of that overachiever guy who does well at everything but also doesn't seem to have many hobbies on his own. Played soccer in high school and made it nationals but never did anything with it beyond big school.
✎ Graduated high school at 16 (yeah he is that guy). Graduated university at 20. Now in graduate school for...law or something.
✎ Never had time for girlfriends, really, but he did go on dates throughout high school and college.
✎ Tends to think that the world, at large, is a little on the boring side. Maybe too easy for him? How arrogant.
✎ Yes, he also does know he's good at a lot of things. Though he doesn't rub it in people's faces he also doesn't hide it. This could either be really appealing if you like a confident guy or really grating because seriously dude where does it end.
✎ Because of this he has VERY HIGH standards for himself and does not take his failures very well. He'll accept nothing less than perfection for himself. He may not freak out in front of people intentional but he may throw a tiny tantrum to himself (or unfortunate roommates/family who walk in.)
✎ He will NOT have his SUPER GREAT SENSE OF JUSTICE just yet. I want him to develop that through Retrospec and memory regains.
✎ He's generally polite, but also doesn't hesitate to point out when someone is wrong. He may try to soften the blow depending on who you are, though.
✎ His one imperfection is that he has a fondness for weird potato chip flavors. He's all about the Lays contest for new shit. See? He's not perfect.
✎ He has a black betta fish named Ryan. It was a gift but he kind of likes it.

LOOKING FOR:

✎ Family!! In canon his family are, like, the main people he's reluctant to kill, so having actual "family" in game would be an interesting dynamic for him as he starts to regain his memories. ESPECIALLY as he finds out they're not his real family.
✎ Roommates or something. Yeah I want him to live apart from his parents because that's more fun. Have some fun, Light.
✎ "Friends"/acquaintances/classmates/colleagues Light isn't someone who gets super close to people, but he's probably got a good number of friendly acquaintances through school and work.
✎ Ex-girlfriends/previous dates/new dates? Like I said above he didn't REALLY long-term date anyone, but hey, he's a good-looking guy, let's work something out.
✎ Rivals of sorts? Or really people who can keep place with him intellectually are the ones he'll find the most interesting.

✎ I have plans to mirror Light's god complex arc from canon. Meaning that as he starts to recover his memories of the Death Note, of Kira, and of his previous desire to rid the world of those he found unworthy and unjust, he will probably become more and more suspicious of others an unhinged. Gaining the knowledge of other worlds, destroyed or otherwise, and how reality itself is becoming warped, I'm thinking he might start to think that the people that were taken out might have been unworthy and/or that this world is also going to shit. WE'LL SEE. He will want to spend a good amount of time understanding Retrospec and figuring out how the situation can better help him and/or how he might take control of it. OBVIOUSLY this would depend on a lot of things regarding other characters, monthly plots, and mod approval for some of his more nefarious intentions, but I want to give people an idea of how I'd like to take his character in the months down the road.

AU OCCUPATION: Dance instructor/choreographer
BLURB:

- Born in Recolle; happens to be a quarter French on his mother's side
- Both parents worked and was fairly well off, was taken care of by his grandmother for most of his childhood
- Started out with sports because of parents, but he hated it so much mostly because he was a small and scrawny child who was bad at sports and got bullied a lot for it.
- Was inspired to pick up ballet when he watched "The Nutcracker" during his first year of elementary school.
- Actually had a lot of raw talent! Trained in ballet and jazz and was mentored by a prominent figure in the dance community, who basically worked him really really hard in order to send him for competitions and other showcases. He was pretty much a prodigy, all things considered, but he also got used to spending most of his waking hours aside from school in the dance studio.
- Was involved in a lot of performing arts/dance things; his mentor also did freelance work and that's how he met Nazuna Nito (pronounces) for the first time while on a job together
- His mentor sent him for competitions both locally and abroad and he became a pretty big name in the local dance community due to how consistent his performances were and how his technical scores were usually perfect.
- Graduated from a performing arts high school and moved into being a professional dancer full-time. Or regular high school, I'm flexible on this I guess
- Got into a pretty terrible accident during competition season from a really bad stage mishap (hip alignment injury, several broken bones, torn muscles) and left Recolle for about three years to recover + intense physical therapy. Completely disappeared from the dance and competition scene without a word.
- Will never really be able to dance the way he did before; the physical therapy allowed him to continue, but he can't do his nine hour days in the studio anymore, so that necessitated a career change
- Switched to a focus on choreography/performance direction instead; has a small but growing portfolio of video and stage credits which he started while he was still recovering (example: this and this because I'm trash)
- Only recently moved back to Recolle now that he's about 95% recovered! Has a day (evening, really) job teaching classes at the dance studio, whatever its name is now I guess and also trains the university's dance team during competition season. Current students include Anya (constellates), Dave (parodeity) and Amanda (broomdance) and Li-na (invocate), maybe more?
- Is also taking online classes for a diploma in fashion merchandising and design. He knows his career as a dancer is short lived as heck, so this is a back-up option.

-- Used it to get out of military school but her parents still were awful about it long enough that she ran away.
-- Ran away from home to stay with an aunt at 16. (Between sophomore and junior year of high school)

-- Pretty noticeable accent.

-- Not mean bossy just...takes charge, tells people what to do, thinks she's helping but she might not be type. Expects to be listened to!
-- She moved back to Recollé in January because her illness is finally starting to take a bit of a toll on her and she wants to try and reconnect with her sister while she can.

-- Was out of the city when Aigis got kicked out of the house.
-- An adrenaline junkie. Wants to do things and really LIVE before her illness finally catches up to her. Skydiving, scuba diving, other divings? Live fast, die young, etc etc.

-- Was class president in high school at Recolle years ago before she ran away and then in Boston too.

✸ the second son of jonathan & elizabeth brigsby (courageofheart) who was born in a relatively small town outside of Recollé.
✸ excelled in pretty much anything he put his mind to or even things he didn't try at all with. katsuki was quickly recommended to a more academically focused private school within the town.
✸ met anya (constellates) who regularly visited this town because her grandparents lived there and unwillingly (?) became friends, often spending large amounts of time together.
✸ father died in a car crash when he was six, which had a huge impact on katsuki who tried hid best to make things easier for his mother and elder brother, kamui (foeyay). worked in unison with his brother to help out their mother and take care of their younger brother/s.
✸ then kamui got sick with pneumonia a year later and his health just wasn't improving regardless of anything their mother or katsuki did. their mother ended up seeking help from associates of their father, which resulted in a move to Recollé to ensure that kamui got better health care.
✸ katsuki stayed behind in the small town, living with a relative, so that he could continue going to school there despite his insistence that he could just go to any old school at this point. relented eventually because his mother thought it would be best for him & his future.
✸ was very regularly visited by his family in the small town and on rare occasions, he came out to Recollé with his relatives to visit them.
✸ went to high school abroad & graduated early. got offers from very good colleges, but came to RU in order to back near his family after living apart for so many years.
✸ enjoys boxing, martial arts, screaming at pigeons, spending time with his dumb family, being the best at everything, and helping his mother.
LOOKING FOR: school mates, teachers, someone to share a room with (dorm or apartment), punch friends, etc... Anything. Bring it to me. Legit the only thing I am not looking for rn is more family.

- her father remarried, and since her older siblings already have a family and a stable job she's whisked away to live in Recolle, United States when she was 8 years old
- initially culture-shocked, but she's always been a quick learner. Has a rocky relationship with his father and stepmother in the process though, but it's not like she hates them
- she's rather tall and intimidating-looking for her age, but she's actually very intelligent; you just wouldn't know it at first glance
- very laidback and slacks off from schoolwork too often so a lot of people just see her as too simpleminded, really
- but!! she does reveal her true intelligence once she's around something that catches her interest
- it's just that she's watched her father put so much pressure on her older siblings so she just hides her smarts so that nobody would ever expect shit from her
- but that's the thing, her interests are kind of all over the place - she's leaning towards science but at the same time she doesn't want to pursue that shit bc her family already expects her to become a doctor but she... doesn't want to... not yet, at least
- and yes she still does experiments but with sweets - horrible-looking sweets that actually taste good! she's still working on the presentation, ok
- right now she's a senior at recolle high, enjoying her final year of high school while loudly ignoring everyone who's pressuring her about the future!!!! leave her olone

BLURB:

• She was born in a town in the middle of bumblefuck nowhere. She grew up there around her family's part on an apple orchard and was generally comfortable for a rural area but not wealthy.
  
• She grew up alongside Nozomi (workshop here from last month) who though Cam isn't planning to app this round is important to the backstory I came up with here so she'll have a vague handwavy NPC best friend-benefactor.
  
• Early in her life her town held a publicity stunt to name one of the young residents there the princess of the town and try to make local/state news by declaring the town a micronation. Low and behold, she was picked and thus is the princess of whatever bumblefuck town she's from even if that never really made that many headlines. But it sure exists on the internet if anyone tracks down information like that. (I know this is ripping off Sakura Quest but it amuses me, this might be changed to a persistent winner of county faire Miss Town type deals? I'm not sure, waffling again feel free to vote)
  
• A combination of that and a lot of poorer people in town being workers on the orchards that her family owns a part of means Nachetanya despite not being that wealthy herself is famous within their little town, and infamous among her schoolmates. This sometimes has served to make her popular, but also has made her a target for mockery, especially after...
  
• When she was 11, a freak accident or medical complication of some kind (I'm still undecided what. Car accident? A severe infection? Cancerous tissue infecting the whole thing not caught until then? Frostbite? I'm kind leaning infection, feel free to vote again) resulted in the amputation of her left arm.
  
• She was always an athletic sort and lost her arm early enough that she was able to get through physical therapy as she got through her teen years, but it did make for a sharp divide between her early life and later years in said down, and further cemented her resolve to eventually leave it. Which she did, for college, applying to and getting into R.U. (her benefactor best friend would have moved shortly before that or a little after depending)
  
• At R.U. she's sort of waffled her way through most of her gen-eds but declared thus far three different majors which she's started and then shifted. Right now, she's going for a Sociology degree. Eventually she started going to school only part-time, instead taking up a job at her friend's newly opened casino. She does it all but mostly is a very pretty dealer and hostess.
  
• The real thing she picked up at R.U. though was the atmosphere and ability to join groups and clubs. She's tried out a large variety of them, also getting involved (both on an offline) in activism. While she's jack of all trades for this, her most passionate forays are into animal rights and protection, and ... yes. She is a vegetarian who flirts with veganism insofar as her budget, health, and if she's cheating or not allow.
  
• She's been in Recolle for three or so years at this point and probably is just getting into her Junior year credits-wise this coming semester. But that's her lot in life: student by day, casino worker (who of course wears a bunny costume because why wouldn't she?) by night, full time opinionated girl. Her personality is bright and friendly but with a somewhat vindictive (though nowhere near as bad as canon if anyone knows it) dark side if she's annoyed and perhaps being free-spirited to a fault. She probably has a "pet" squirrel which she calls a companion. And she's a one-armed wonder and defiant about it. ... I'm unsure if she'd have a prosthetic or not, probably though. As I expect it'd be severed not at the shoulder (like canon).

Not all of this is 100% set in stone, like I do like the idea of her largely being well-liked and popular especially among the adults of her home town (maybe an outcast to the other people her age) but I've been reconciling that with wanting a severed arm for her and not sure if I want to go with birth defect. But this is more set in stone than last time so go with this and confirm with me about if you're still up for things we might've discussed last time in light of this new info? Or I will poke you. I've got a collection of stuff from last time here.

LOOKING FOR: Anything! But I'm open to family as long as I can keep the bumblefuck town backstory, friends who knew her from then or know her now? People she knows from online? Co-workers at the casino in question? Friends? I'm open to anything honestly.
OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: I'm pretty set on Nachetanya actually. Like the only other one I'm even vaguely considering as a possibility is Kiritsugu Emiya from Fate/Zero and I think I need less sad old people.

» Comes from a big family like in canon, with several siblings (probably including that one sister that nags him incessantly)
» Was a shy kid, good at school but not very social
» He was in both football and the chess club in high school. Nerdiest jock ever.
» Had set his sights on being in the military, and was shooting for the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis. Between his athletics and grades he was considered practically a shoo-in. While he was doing his initial round of testing, however, it was discovered he suffers from (what was then) previously-undiagnosed cardiomyopathy and was turned down. According to the doctors he was lucky he hadn't collapsed during football before that point.
» He's actually pretty happy being a librarian, even though it's the farthest thing from his original intended occupation.
» Has a secret love of superhero movies/comics/etc
» Terrible at card games
» To keep a grip on his heart problem he eats insanely healthy and does as much exercise as his doctor will allow.
» He has a snazzy townhouse that's just a bit out of his price range, so he's currently living with Biffy (dandyofawolf) in a very "Odd Couple" kind of roomie situation.
» Does not date because he is still very much a shy nerd.

» SIBLINGS! Half-siblings or step-siblings would work too, his family is still pretty flexible at this point

☆ Currently a student at the university, looking to major in English and become a teacher. When he's not at school he's working at the library. (Or a bookstore if someone wants to hire him?)
☆ Rossiu grew up in Recollé. His mother died when he was a kid and he was raised by his uncle. He was a quiet, shy child and eventually (sort of) grew out of that.
☆ Rossiu was always an exceptional student and earned a scholarship to Recollé University. He's always been adamant about wanting to be a teacher despite pressure from his uncle to go into law enforcement.
☆ Rossiu's very passionate about books. He's always loved reading and while he does use it as escapism sometimes, he likes to learn and will read anything he can get his hands on. His book collection is almost impressively large.
☆ Video games are fun though and he plays some online mmorpgs sometimes, though he's a casual gamer.
☆ He's also fond of debate and can argue with the best of them. He doesn't like picking fights though, so this is pretty much limited to debate club.
☆ He's ultimately a good kid who means well, so his personality's a bit more like he was pre-timeskip.

Due to military training, she also makes an excellent bouncer.

Estranged from her family since she stayed “too long” in the military and refuses to retire until she feels ready. To keep up with PT requirements, Olivia can be seen jogging around and going to the gym to keep in shape.

Didn’t feel the need to go to college, has a good business sense, and is friendly enough with her regulars without stepping into the friends social level with them.

Would not mind if her siblings came back into contact with her as long as they respect her decision to remain in the military.

Because he likes spontaneity in his life and living on the edge, he has a hard time holding down a job (either he gets fired or get bored) and is unwilling to commit to relationships (esp. romantic). He's trying to get his life together but it seems like nothing is going as planned or things are going well but are too boring for him.

Cain's hobbies are smoking, drinking, fighting, fucking, and being the best at whatever he's currently doing.

His family came over from Russia when he was four years old. Somethings happened (that I'm still trying to figure out) which basically started Cain down a path of crime and instability. By the age of fourteen he had a juvie record (petty theft, underage drinking, trespassing, and resisting arrest to name a few) and was sent to foster homes and group homes to try to serve his various community sentences. Cain has runaway from these homes numerous times and has generally lead a fast and sporadic life into his early adulthood.

He's very artistically inclined and has tried almost everything under the sun. Theater, dance, music, and visual arts. But, he found his true calling in food service and decided to become a chef. After going overboard and learning culinary + baking + bartending, he decided Recolle needed a place where everyone could get together and have fun. And enjoy some good food, all while being waited on.

So, he opened a Butler Cafe, because that's what you do, right?

Most of the time, he's managing the kitchen but occasionally makes an appearance in the dining room, all dressed to the nines. Because he can't turn down his fans– they deserve to be happy!

- the short version is that Beth is the kind of girl who'd fight a pigeon for a french fry on the ground

- She's Japanese but was given a Westernized name by her immigrant, aging parents. Her Japanese name that her family uses is Tomiko and she goes by Beth around friends, in school and everyday life!
- Beth is from a farming family. Their farm isn't commercial, though they do sell organic dairy products, meats and produce in some local grocery stores. They're decently middle class but they live pretty modestly.
- Beth is the oldest of three siblings: two sisters and a brother. Because it's a family farm, Tomiko was tasked with a lot of hard labor, menial chores and farm work.
- If it involves animal health, resource harvesting or chasing down a creature to wrangle it, she's your girl.
- Beth is famous in her family for being the only one who could wrestle Big George, a particularly large and ornery pet pig. She's a pig wrestler.
- Instead of commuting from the farm to school, Beth now has an apartment in the city so she can easily travel to school. Her mother is very protective and worried about her eldest daughter so she often sends her farm care packages.
- Because Beth doesn't want to burden her family as an inconvenience (something she has a complex about) Beth works as much as possible when she's not in school. She works as a convenience store cashier during the week, then freelances as a cleaner on the weekends -- living rooms, parks, whatever someone wants her to do, she'll do it.
- Her income is pretty sparse, a lot of it going to rent and the utmost necessities. Beth isn't afraid to pull food out of the trash (not nasty food, but perfectly good food her convenience store throws away is a waste if you just leave it!!!), pick up stuff from the side of the road. Some people might be more ashamed of impoverished living, but she's proud and frugal!!! She's also a lifehack queen because of this.
- Despite her farm leanings, Beth does have a lot of interest in more sophisticated things. When she feels like she has enough money, Beth splurges on nice clothes or good bathroom stuff.
- One of the reasons for her obsession with paying her own way is because she's not exactly the brightest student. She sometimes thinks it's a waste to spend money on her education since she doesn't learn as well as most people, but she's an optimistic person and has decided that if she can't read and write that great, she'll just work really good hard!
- Her farm upbringing HAS made her pretty athletic, though. She's good at running, basketball, hurdles and can lift pretty heavy objects.
- She's also used to getting up at ass o'clock in the morning, so she gets up at 4 AM and goes running in the wee hours of the morning (and also when she's off on the weekend).
- Beth is a little out there in her personality, attitude and life experiences, and she's actually not one to hide it. If you think she's weird and impulsive and bizarre....okay! Cool! She's very amicable.
- Family is very important to Beth, and she tries to spread that same feeling of love to everyone! Being a sister is great! Her mom is wonderful! She loves her dad! Wow, family!!! Super amazing!!!!
- This may explain why she pampers her pet dog (that she got to take with her, thank goodness) Biscuits and treats her like her own daughter.
- Beth's time online is spent listening to music, looking up DIY stuff and saving pics of clothes she wishes she could buy.
- Finally, Beth likes to keep herself busy because of an anxiety problem she has. When she isn't doing something, she has anxiety flareups about her family, her capabilities, her place in the world -- all kinds of irrational stuff. It's not something she's ever shared with anyone, so it's a problem she sort of deals with on her own.
