AU WORKSHOP - NOVEMBER Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. Please respond to the post with the below form, and/or feel free to comment to anyone else to work things out! Please be aware that posting to this workshop does not guarantee you a reserve, and that multiple players are permitted to workshop the same character. Please find our mod questions comment here. IMPORTANT INFORMATION World changes FAQ • Please note: you need a reserve to apply, so please plan accordingly! Reservation dates can also be found on the game calendar and coincide with the TDM. • For current players who are interested in 2nd or 3rd characters, please review and follow our policy about AC! To reserve a 2nd character you must have a pass for the previous month's AC with your first character. For a 3rd character, you must have a pass for the previous two months' AC for both of your characters. In addition, we do ask that the AC for the current month be met and filled into your AC comment by the time of your reserve. It must be full AC. This means you must have 20 comments between at least 2 and at most 4 threads and one memory regain listed for the current month's AC period. AU NAME: STILL WORKING ON THIS...but he's not gonna keep the name Light. Who names their kid "Light". You can help me give your opinions!

1.) Hikari [光] - It literally means "light" or like a ray of light. But also his offspring is that name so idk.
2.) Akira [諦/明] - "truth, clarity" or "bright, light". Double amusing because "Kira" is in it.
3.) Satoshi [明] - Another reading of the same Kanji. And the name of that one Pokemon guy.
4.) Kaito [海斗/魁斗] - No actual interesting tongue-in-check DN reference. I just like the name. And it sounds like "Raito".

I may make his last name "Turner" for the lols.

AU AGE: 20-24, pending
AU OCCUPATION: God Graduate student, academic tutor, some sort of law intern, SWIMMING INSTRUCTOR?
BLURB:

✎ Born and raised in Seattle (haha) for the first part of his life, Light has always been an excellent student and the kind of "golden boy" that you want to hate but can't really because how can one person be so good at so many things. (But you still hate them a little.)
✎ Mother, at least, is Japanese since I'm going with a Japanese given name. Undecided about other side of family, but he speaks, reads, and writes Japanese fluently, as well as Spanish.
✎ Family may have moved to Recolle (depending on potential family member plotting below!) or Light is here for school/job opportunities.
✎ Kind of that overachiever guy who does well at everything but also doesn't seem to have many hobbies on his own. Played soccer in high school and made it nationals but never did anything with it beyond big school.
✎ Graduated high school at 16 (yeah he is that guy). Graduated university at 20. Now in graduate school for...law or something.
✎ Never had time for girlfriends, really, but he did go on dates throughout high school and college.
✎ Tends to think that the world, at large, is a little on the boring side. Maybe too easy for him? How arrogant.
✎ Yes, he also does know he's good at a lot of things. Though he doesn't rub it in people's faces he also doesn't hide it. This could either be really appealing if you like a confident guy or really grating because seriously dude where does it end.
✎ Because of this he has VERY HIGH standards for himself and does not take his failures very well. He'll accept nothing less than perfection for himself. He may not freak out in front of people intentional but he may throw a tiny tantrum to himself (or unfortunate roommates/family who walk in.)
✎ He will NOT have his SUPER GREAT SENSE OF JUSTICE just yet. I want him to develop that through Retrospec and memory regains.
✎ He's generally polite, but also doesn't hesitate to point out when someone is wrong. He may try to soften the blow depending on who you are, though.
✎ His one imperfection is that he has a fondness for weird potato chip flavors. He's all about the Lays contest for new shit. See? He's not perfect.
✎ He has a black betta fish named Ryan. It was a gift but he kind of likes it.

LOOKING FOR:

✎ Family!! In canon his family are, like, the main people he's reluctant to kill, so having actual "family" in game would be an interesting dynamic for him as he starts to regain his memories. ESPECIALLY as he finds out they're not his real family.
✎ Roommates or something. Yeah I want him to live apart from his parents because that's more fun. Have some fun, Light.
✎ "Friends"/acquaintances/classmates/colleagues Light isn't someone who gets super close to people, but he's probably got a good number of friendly acquaintances through school and work.
✎ Ex-girlfriends/previous dates/new dates? Like I said above he didn't REALLY long-term date anyone, but hey, he's a good-looking guy, let's work something out.
✎ Rivals of sorts? Or really people who can keep place with him intellectually are the ones he'll find the most interesting.

✎ I have plans to mirror Light's god complex arc from canon. Meaning that as he starts to recover his memories of the Death Note, of Kira, and of his previous desire to rid the world of those he found unworthy and unjust, he will probably become more and more suspicious of others an unhinged. Gaining the knowledge of other worlds, destroyed or otherwise, and how reality itself is becoming warped, I'm thinking he might start to think that the people that were taken out might have been unworthy and/or that this world is also going to shit. WE'LL SEE. He will want to spend a good amount of time understanding Retrospec and figuring out how the situation can better help him and/or how he might take control of it. OBVIOUSLY this would depend on a lot of things regarding other characters, monthly plots, and mod approval for some of his more nefarious intentions, but I want to give people an idea of how I'd like to take his character in the months down the road.

I don't know if you'd be up for it because light doesn't live with his family, but I have it in lelouch's au history that he's actually staying with friends of family in recolle, in a something sort of like guardianship role so that's one way that they could be acquainted if you're up for it! like lelouch and his npc sister staying with light's au family so they're kind of pseudo-siblings

if not, I'd love for them to be terrible but great friends especially since lelouch has gotten back some questionable memories. run into him as zero, light, it'll be fun???? please think that his academic talent is wasted - lelouch is exceptionally smart but he. doesn't really put himself to it so he's kind of coasting through university unlike light, laughs.

I really want to see how Light and Draco could interact. Albeit, Derek is 25, it would be fun to see the two of them talk. Have an intellectual conversation of sorts.

Also, I'd say name him Akira.

I do too! I definitely think it would be interesting in the sense that like Derek is already seeing who he could be/have been and having reservations about it, while Light will probably just be like "yeah that's me fuck this world".

Did Light go to university at Recolle U? Because depending on what age you make him, maybe Derek and him could have ran into each other at university? What was his undergrad in? Derek was at uni from 2011-2015.

Man, I'd really love to see him intern with Tachibana either on criminal or business law. Considering the shady history Tachibana is going to eventually remember I think it would be a lot of fun.

Hey, is it possible for both Light and Jamie to be teammates in the swimming team during Jamie's time at Recolle U, assuming that Light was around when Jamie was studying at the university? He's 25 years old when he will enter the game soon. You know, vitriolic swim buddies? He can also speak Spanish and Japanese, just conversational though. Also, the Light Yagami on Swimming video is quite hilarious, the 2008 Beijing Olympics reference did me in, LOL!!!

My vote's on Akira! Like Akira Kurosawa the legendary Japanese filmmaker.

Yeah definitely! He went to Uni a little early but at that age they've probably overlapped! Light would join the swim team, would be a good basis for him to be a really ridiculous swimming instructor. Was Jamie a member or captain?? TBH... THAT VIDEO GIVES ME LIFE. Fandom is wonderful and terrifying.

Akira is definitely winning so I think that's what I will go with!!

I am screaming in both delight and terror.

I don't know if you've decided on a career path for Light yet but if he ends up on the prosecution side of law interning he might work under Matthew since he's an assistant district attorney. Matt is guided by a big sense of justice so Light might find his motivations sort of silly at first but as he regains his own desire for JUSTICE Matt would likely respond well to it... At first. They might go from "meh" to friends to "you must be stopped!"

While Matt is a vigilante in canon and wouldn't look down on people going outside of the law to do the right thing, he is very much against killing. He's a devout Catholic and would not approve of someone trying to become god themselves. I imagine the philosophical differences between these two could be entertaining to play, especially in regards to the question of how much they will become their other selves. Matt is a smart fellow so he might make a good fellow intellect to either befriend or hate. lol Plus you have to admit there'd be something real satisfying about the kid who'd like to become god going up against the man who dresses up as the devil.

THAT'S PRETTY MUCH MY REACTION TO HAVING MATT MURDOCK TALK TO LIGHT YAGAMI.

I can definitely see their original paths starting out kind of the same and then Light's hubris helps him take a sharp right down towards crazy town. I am so down for this CR. He is going to be an intern under Tachibana, I believe, for criminal law but if Matt is working for the district attorney then it's very likely Light has gone down to see his cases for school! He could easily pick up on the fact that Matt is a unique prosecutor and to further his own career goals/interests, reach/ed out to him as a "please teach me". So it could start out so nice...

...until he decides to be god of the new world, yes. You know. Minor details.
