AU WORKSHOP - OCTOBER Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. - the biggest thing irt his characterization is that he's not terminally ill in this setting so he's a lot less somber, prone to talking in harsh extremes like he does in canon less death talk basically?? a bit more cheerful
- grew up in recolle, his family was probably really wealthy once (i'm still flip flopping on specifics but for the moment i want to say they worked in publishing had some sort of mini media conglomerate?? ) but has financially been on the decline in the past decade or so. they try and hide it and put a lot of pressure on him to take over when he's old enough.
- so that being said he's had a pretty strict upbringing, was raised to care about appearances a ton. his family is trying really hard to hide the state of their finances, they've made a big mess out of everything and kind of expect him to pick up the pieces eventually.
- however because he was his family's shining star and basically capable of anything and everything they asked he's also incredibly spoiled lol a little different than in canon?? in canon he's mean in the bitchy way here i imagine he'll be mean in a more douchey kind of way
- he's never really pursued interests of his own free will, everything he does or likes serves some kind of purpose in the grand scheme of the plan laid out for him by his parents
- he's not going to complain about that but there's definitely some pent up resentment towards his family and he has a tendency to take it out on the people around him.
- the boy doesn't have hobbies?? help him discover his personality??
- i'm as cliche as it gets, he's gonna start college in a year and he's lowkey filled with existential dread because he's realizing more and more how little he wants anything to do with the future his parents need him to want.

Background
+ Born in Japan, but moved over when he was about three.
+ His mother set herself up as a television psychic with some minor notoriety.
+ Has dabbled in a variety of spells, curses, witchcraft and other forms of magic... none of it has shown any signs of being particularly effective.
+ In high school he was well known for charging for tarot readings.
+ He had a small group of "friends" who were mostly the awkward kids no one else wanted to deal with that followed him around. He was never close to any of them.
+ In his junior year there was a small incident involving a fire in the gym that no one could definitively prove Natsume was behind.
+ It was an accident (probably... maybe), but Natsume was definitely behind it.
+ Despite this, he wasn't expelled. However, he was held back that year for truancy issues.
+ At the start of college he immediately stopped contacting his old "friends". Admittedly, he never really contacted them that much to begin with.
+ In college he skips most of his gen ed classes, and only attends the classes that sound interesting to him. He's that "only shows up for exams" kid.
+ He's currently debating between declaring a major in chemistry or psychology.

Characteristics/Interests
+ Topics he enjoys reading about include cults, secret societies, supposed magic practices through the ages, and psychological experiments.
+ He's very easy to get along with!
+ ... He's not actually easy to get along with.

AU AGE: 22? She's fresh out of college and her birthday's in March, so that sounds about right, but I may skew it a little.
AU OCCUPATION: RUNS A CASINO, name pending.

BLURB:
• Doesn't do Keijo because it doesn't exist! No butt olympics for her. She doesn't have any potentially olympic gymnastic prowess either.
• Has at least one parental figure (maybe it's mom, maybe it's dad, maybe it's some old grandma,) and a few siblings.
• Her family's large and poor. They're a real loving and happy family despite the financial insecurity, however. Nozomi's learned how to make money stretch and help care for her family in any way she can since her parent(s) are usually busy working; this love and responsibility to her family has left her always thinking about the best way to provide for her family in the long term as far as career paths are concerned.
• Gets really into two things in high school: boxing because she's very talented as far as sports are concerned and she loves the rush from the competition, and... cooking, because she cooks for her family and has a lot of fun coming up with creative solutions when they can't afford ingredients.
• Out of these cooking is the much safer and more viable long term option, so she looks into culinary school...

• But everything changed when she turned eighteen and won the damn lottery. Like big time. Hundreds of millions, in the hands of someone who's been poor their entire life. Holy shit, alright, where the fuck does she go from here.

• Nozomi does her best to not let the wealth go to her head and ends up changing her college focus to learning how to manage her finances. A lot of money gets invested and put into stocks, and she and her family are more or less set for life.
• So... Now what?
• Her family ends up getting a lot of negative attention now that she's come into money, and she's not here for that, so she ends up taking her entire damn family and moving them over to Recolle!
• The finances are generally kept a secret so that her siblings can have a normal life for a few years. They keep it low key by living the lifestyle of someone well off but not filthy rich, which isn't too hard given that they're all used to living like church mice.
• All is well... But that's. Sort of boring? That's not really good enough. What can they do to make things more interesting? She gathers her siblings together, they discuss things for a bit, and they all very much on an impulse decide to run a casino. Clearly if she can't have her butt gambling she'll have her... other gambling? Yeah. Sounds legit.
• While the idea sprung out overnight, the planning, location, and actual setup takes years. It isn't until Nozomi is out of college that it actually opens.
• She's very tight lipped about her involvement in this to anyone for the sake of keeping things relaxed for her family, which... Isn't hard, because she has no idea how to properly be a rich person and still very much falls on her poor person habits. Her youngest sibling just made it out of high school a couple of months before the opening.
• So her hotel/casino! (name pending) has been open for a few months now and seems to be a pretty big success. 18+ to enter, anyone younger than 21 gets a wristband for no alcohol. She can't hide her involvement at this point, but shrewd businesswoman Nozomi and casual hangout Nozomi seem almost like two different people in terms of intensity.
• Of course, there are already plenty of rumors going around about the owner's generosity... Pretty weird thing to think of when you think casino, huh?

LOOKING FOR:
• FRIENDS. Friends from before all of this nonsense that probably knew Nozomi was a bizarre eccentric person, but not a... rich eccentric person?
• COLLEGE FRIENDS/PREVIOUS CLASSMATES. same verse as the first.
• PREVIOUS GIRLFRIENDS. Oh man it could have ended poorly or just been a fling or ended on good terms, I don't care, I'd just love to have her have some dating history.

AU OCCUPATION: a shut-in writer/the local weird professor's assistant at the university who is kind of sort of obsessed with shipwrecks and lost ships, let him discuss this weird amulet with you for two hours

- Born in Boston, was a pale and sickly child and never really grew out of that, probably almost drowned once and got a weird obsession/fear(?) of the sea from that
- Moves out to Arkham, Massachusetts after his mother passes away and his father disappears under mysterious circumstances
- After graduating, he finds his personal obsession with history relating to the sea, starts writing about it
- Literally no one cares about shipwrecks, Lovecraft...BUT he probably pointed out things that some people in the history community have never figured out
- Moved to Recolle a couple of years ago when he got an offer to give a lecture at the university there, he's stayed here ever since and became a teacher's assistant and is probably slowly working towards getting a PhD
- He's that type of teacher's assistant who is so deadpan you can't tell what he's thinking at any time but he probably gives everyone good grades because he's too lazy to really point out any flaws
- Very narcoleptic, has probably been found face down in a fountain snoozing away
- Yes, his hair is naturally that long, those are not extensions, he probably puts it up in a ponytail when he isn't too lazy to do so
- Will probably be friends with every single cat in the city. EVERY SINGLE CAT. LET HIM PET YOUR CATS!!!!!
- Is often found in bakeries and ice cream shops in his spare time, typing away at his laptop in the back corner where he hopes nobody can see him
- When he isn't in lecture he actually tries to avoid most people because he's got social anxiety up the wazoo
- There is probably a viral video of him on the internet giving the most half-hearted dab in the world after losing a bet with the students he teaches
- Dresses mostly in black, even in the summertime (has been confused for a goth but he really isn't one at all)

- Overall he is tall and looks very intimidating but is actually shy and awkward and is kind of vaguely afraid of everyone who simply exists in his general vicinity

AU HISTORY
Born a quadruplet to a French father and Italian mother. Both his parents were ecstatic but for very different reasons.

Said reasons eventually led to divorce; the father was from an extremely wealthy family and played dirty to keep his sons, allowing the daughter to go off with the mother.

Turns out Vinsmoke wanted his sons to compete for the family business. Sanji's inherent strength was his kindness, which in daddy's eyes meant shit all. He turned a blind eye as Sanji was physically and mentally abused by his brothers.

Kindness couldn't save him, so Sanji worked double time to systematically beat his brothers in every area - schooling, physical prowess, business, etc. By the time he was 16, it was obvious he was the best choice as heir.

TOO BAD it still didn't earn his father's love, who didn't want to be proven wrong and so kept viewing Sanji with contempt. At this point Sanji lets his rage fly free by flouncing out of the family, penniless. He attempts to find his mother, only to find she's been dead for years. He can't get ahold of his sister.

After wandering/traveling a year or two, doing odd jobs to keep himself fed, he gets enough money for a one-way ticket to Recollé. He's bright as hell and scores a loaded scholarship. He's also arrogant as hell because hey man, flaunt it if you got it.

Currently is finishing up college but jesus wept, he's bored. Say whatever you want about his father; that fucker still homeschooled his sons and as a result, Sanji's way ahead of his class. It kinda infuriates him but haha, daddy issues.

AU PERSONALITY
Anger is his shield and sword, and he will wield it indiscriminately. Comes with the territory when you've been raised in an abusive household. He's calmed down since moving to Recollé but banter is not his forte. He tends to take meanspirited jokes to heart and strikes back for the kill.

mmmm that arrogance. He gives off a vibe of being the self-proclaimed smartest person in the room because that's what he's used to, and uh, survival instinct. if this is pointed out, he'll either kanye shrug or go out of his way to prove he really is.

Generally more polite to women but if pushed, he will cut a bitch (canon Sanji is fuckin weeping)

Surprisingly fond of kids? Teenagers, too, go figure. He will beat the snot out of someone if they mess with kids.

Is secretly a squish ball who just wants friends, but uh, how does one un-train themselves from believing everyone is out to stab them in the back?

CAN'T COOK WORTH AN ACTUAL DAMN, I'M GOING TO HELL. All his energy went into not-dying under the hands of his brothers, cooking was never a thing he got into. At best, he can manage a simple dish of like, rice and beans. He tends to eat whatever his friends are cooking, and at least has the grace not to complain... too much.

He still smokes and curses like a sailor thanks to those two years of living it rough.

LOOKING FOR:

EXES. GIVE ME ALL THE EXES. Sanji in this AU is looking for love but isn't trusting enough to keep it, so he has a bad habit of working up the courage to ask for a date and then dumping his partner after like. A month. With an apology and zero explanation. It really is him and not you. Exes can range from bitter as hell to realizing Sanji needs therapy and not giving him too hard of a time. I WILL TAKE ANYTHING.

People who will put up with Sanji's initial shit? He's an angry, suspicious ball of fire, no matter how he actually craves connections with other people. So once you get passed his asshole shell, he's stupidly loyal. And probably has to be told that yes, he will go to jail if he murders a man on someone's behalf.

People who won't put up with Sanji's shit and just hate him, ROFL. This is his default, he will shrug it off with a smirk. COME AT HIM, MOFOs.

- Her father works in architecture and her mother is a teacher; she also has an older brother who's attending the university in town. They moved to Recolle a few years ago because of a job opportunity for her father.

- Perfectionist to the extreme because of how ambitious she is! She's definitely the type to get straight A's and involve herself in a lot of extracurriculars because she is an Overachiever, even if she doesn't make it a point to socialize with everyone in those groups.

- Currently a senior in high school! And planning on going to Recolle U next year. She'll probably study music, because she has a pretty strong fondness for piano.

▹ Mr. Nelson joined the staff at Recolle High as of the beginning of this school year.
▹ As a teacher, Mr. Nelson is the wise guy kind who posts funny signs around the classroom, takes a selfie with you if you fall asleep, and gives you THE LOOK if you misbehave. Young Rebel don't you start talking back, this man has enough sass for several people. All jokes aside he cares about his students and believes everyone has potential. So no texting in class!
▹ Outside of work Foggy- yes call him Foggy- is fun loving and easy going. Expect much humor and sarcasm to pass his lips. If you want a friendly debate partner, he's your man.
▹ Directing the drama class he can be a perfectionist but he's very cautious about pushing students too hard. He'd hate himself forever if he made someone cry.
▹ Foggy was born in New York City and way back between 90-98 he was a Broadway baby. He was a talented singer and tap dancer. His birth mother was that monster you see on reality television who pushes their child too far all so they can cash in. Foggy's dad decided he was sick of how he and his son were getting treated by his wife and they divorced. Foggy left the theater life, the experience ruined by dear old Dragon Mom. His name is obscure and it's unlikely anyone will know who he is unless they happen to own the soundtrack from a cast recording he was in all those years ago.
▹ Foggy's dad remarried and he ended up with the loving mother he needed and several sisters who enjoy affectionately teasing him.
▹ He was THAT AWKWARD TEEN growing up. Don't expect him to overlook bullying around campus. He knows how it can mess with a person.
▹ He nearly went to law school but years of holiday visits to Dragon Mom messed with his confidence and he talked himself out of it. Instead he majored in English and earned his teaching credentials.
▹ Taught at a couple different high schools before Recolle High. Has been teaching for about eight years now.

- Her parents died in a tragic accident when she was a baby, so she was raised by her much older sister, who's a minor celebrity think Tony Hawk meets Tila Tequila (app Latula). She moved back to Recolle to raise Terezi, and her minor celebrity endorsements pay for the assistive tech.
- Terezi loves her sister, but feels kind of awkwardly overshadowed by her and her ~celeb~ life. Other than that and the disability, she had a normal, uneventul childhood and adolescence.
- AS FOR THAT . . . Terezi worked twice as hard to keep from falling behind in school, because she hates being put in a position where she's ignorant or not aware of what's going on. Probably there was sister involvement here too. It actually got easier as she got older and everything got an electronic version/screen reader tech became better. She's fluent in Braille but also has trained herself to understand audio played back at crazy speeds (so she can process text being read to her.)
- She's . . . kind of scarily brilliant, actually. Clearly one of The Smart Ones in any given classroom, although she's better with verbal/"soft" subjects than math, and she acts like she knows it and is a little smug about it. She was never super popular for that reason--a little too satisfied with her own intelligence and a lot too weird to be one of the popular smart kids. That and she enjoys it too visibly when someone is weirded out by her blindness.
- She did debate all through high school (and probably continued into college), was very good at it, and very . . . Azula-in-"The Beach" about it all.
- She loves true crime stuff and CSI-type shows, for all that she acknowledges they take a lot of liberties with the reality of the situation. This probably has something to do with her longtime ambition to be a criminal prosecutor. Objection!! Take that!!
- BASICALLY she's a little softer than she is in canon, a little more subdued, a lot less vicious, but she still has her taste for drama and TH3 L4W, and she's still unapologetically weird.

- Recently moved to Recolle, a newer student at the high school.
- Moved to the army base/close to it.
- Interest in cars and the military as a result has him offering to help apprentice and study mechanics in his spare time, while starting a training regime in keeping himself fit for the military should he go that route.
- Already knowledgeable on what is required with the military thanks to his foster father.
- Is also tempted and torn in doing social work, given he was an orphan and all himself. Wanting to give back and help other kids like him. Which also doesn't make deciding what he wants to do an easy task.
- Still knows Japanese, just doesn't tend to use it except for at home or if he gets really upset/angry about something and he rambles.
- Was an only child when his parents died and still an only child now, given his adoption and the focus and care he needed to settle each time they moved, though especially in the more immediate aftermath of being adopted that he had to adjust to it all.


AU PERSONALITY:

- Yuu's personality is mostly less brash, with him being less likely to try push people away, since he still had the trauma of losing his parents, but he doesn't have the added trauma of seeing his orphan family being killed in front of him on top of that.
- He's more open, more accepting of making bonds and connections as a result, even if there might be some lingering issues around his parents. There's no baggage in regards to also losing his orphan family as well.
- He's also not as frustrated regarding school and studying, not having been taken by the vampires, who didn't care to educate the children, leaving him almost illiterate. For him with the au it is more a case of motivating him to do the schoolwork than it is with him actually struggling with it, since he grew up going to school and all without any time off from it.
- Still loyal and selfless to a fault, still with that short temper and habit of getting into fights at times.
- Still a 'cherry boy', in regards to relationships, more interested in hanging out with his friends, getting his schoolwork done, and figuring/planning on what to do after it to worry about dating still.
- Interested in cars and military training, trying to decide between joining up like his foster father or being a mechanic after school.
- Probably....a little more disciplined than in canon? In not being quite so quick to disobey for the sake of being a brat. Still happens, just not as often.
- Still just as likely to act first before thinking on the consequences. Especially where his friends/'family' are concerned. This is usually where the fights come into play, along with his shorter temper.

BLURB:

- Booker's actual AU name is Zachary Hale. This is due to a pretty heavy life of crime, which resulted in him changing his name and skipping town.

- Booker moved to Recolle roughly close to a year ago, having left Brooklyn, NY to attempt escaping the eyes of the mob he'd been doing dealings with.

- At age 36, Booker lived a modest life with his wife of two years, Annalise Hale. He was a police officer with the NYPD, and working towards having a family until Analise was diagnosed with a terminal disease. Treatment cost far more than either of them could afford, and so their quality of life severely decreased due to funds necessary for her medication and surgeries. Unfortunately, money ran dry. Zachary Hale eventually loses his job as a police officer, and decides to take on a life of crime in order to earn big money fast. He became very quickly indebted to the mob, where he eventually was forced to work for them in order to 1. pay his debts and 2. still make enough money to get by.

- Zachary Hale's involvement with the mob leads to regularly committed crimes, violence, murder, and robbery.

- Annalise, despite constant treatment and surgery, dies of her ailment and leaves Zachary a widow. Many attempts to have a child failed, and so he has no family when his wife passes.

- This leads to a severe downward spiral of depression and erratic behavior. Zachary normalizes his crime life and no longer sees it as a means to get by. Rather, he adjusts to it and uses it as a coping mechanism to ignore the loss of his wife. He becomes extremely erratic, angry, and unpredictable in his time with the mob.

- Hit jobs are the norm with the mob he's tangled up with, and Zachary is tasked with his first assassination. A man who is severely in debt with the group who is delinquent in his payments. Zachary almost gets the job done, until he's forced to face a fearful mother of three children. The mother being the man's wife, the kids being his. Given that this hits pretty close to home, Zachary is forced to remember how soft he really is and he refuses the job. This doesn't bode well with the mob, and eventually results in the mob coming after him. With his life threatened and his life essentially in shambles, he manages to steal a large sum of money and weapons belonging to them as a last "fuck you". This facilitates the means for him to change his name and skip town to Recolle to assume a new life with a clean slate.

- Now Booker DeWitt, he eventually seeks help for his drug and alcohol addiction. He goes through rehab and meetings and manages to get clean. He gets a job as a private investigator/detective and starts working as a handyman on the side for extra money.

- Zachary Hale became a very angry, very depressed man. The assumed new life of Booker DeWitt has made him want very much to be a better man. While he's not a sweetheart and he's definitely got the very same snarky attitude that Booker has in Infinite, he's not a total asshole either. He does struggle and often lets his old self seep in every so often, but he makes a conscious effort not to be that way. He's striving to keep clean and move on with his life.

- He's afraid of heights and hates flying. Because I think I'm funny sometimes.

- Booker does have a close friendship with Rosalind Lutece. He's done plenty of extra jobs for her on the side, and they wound up becoming good friends in the process. She's really the only friend he's made since his arrival to Recolle.

LOOKING FOR:
- Booker is extremely, EXTREMELY cautious about who he lets in his life. While he'd deny and work very hard to make himself unrecognizable, I'm not at all opposed to having anyone have been to Brooklyn at any point and seen Zachary Hale.

- Always love negative CR, so I'm down for that. Positive, too! And I'd like to explore his addictions and such. He's got plenty of PTSD from his experiences, so anyone who's willing to work off of that and plot with me would be great!

- constantly screams "i'm fine" when dealing with especially difficult or stressful situations to calm himself down and handle things without losing it (a habit he picked up as a child so he wouldn't get upset about always having to move)
- was never really bullied or picked on despite his upbringing and past, had excellent grades in school, but can be rather dense in social situations and sometimes comes off as a little anti-social
- not born or raised in recolle, and after shifting homes so much in his home city, he decided to move to recolle for the law program at the university
- moves to recolle as soon as he graduates high school, can be quite resourceful and independent when he really puts his mind to it and focuses, hence how he was able to apply for college and find an apartment mainly on his own
- a kind old lady who used to live near him often sends him care packages from his home city, closest thing he has to a mother
- been living in recolle for roughly 4 years now, a little more than halfway done with the intense law program he signed himself up for (as a result, he can get very stressed)
- despite said stress, he adores law and loves talking about it, always willing to offer legal advice (even if he isn't really qualified yet), and just really wants to help people
- though he is seen as independent, he happily accepts help when offered to him, but hates being treated like a charity case, ie pitied or looked down on, and he will fight anyone who tries to do that
- due to his short time living in recolle, he still isn't too familiar with a lot of the city, so he desperately wants friends to hang out with and see the sights and really become a local of the place
- the biggest anime and video game nerd

*With a dog, absolutely has a husky or other big loud dog completely inappropriate for a studio apartment
*Never was an academic type, took a year to get on her feet, but then used her father's military history to secure some funding for school and waits tables (??? highly flexible on this) to make up the difference
*She'd always admired people who could heal others but knew she could never make it as a doctor or nurse; a paramedic position provided the sense of immediacy she wanted
