Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. Please respond to the post with the below form, and/or feel free to comment to anyone else to work things out! Please be aware that posting to this workshop does not guarantee you a reserve, and that multiple players are permitted to workshop the same character. Please find our mod questions comment here.

• As per our game-wide poll, we will be holding an application round in October and in November! After that, apps will resume their bi-monthly schedule. The game calendar has now been updated with the dates for this.
• Please note: you need a reserve to apply, so please plan accordingly! Reservation dates can also be found on the game calendar and coincide with the TDM.
• For current players who are interested in 2nd or 3rd characters, please review and follow our policy about AC! To reserve a 2nd character you must have a pass for the previous month's AC with your first character. For a 3rd character, you must have a pass for the previous two months' AC for both of your characters. In addition, we do ask that the AC for the current month be met and filled into your AC comment by the time of your reserve. It must be full AC. - Born in Hong Kong, his family are the heads of a very prestigious business or company of sorts?? Maybe engineering or something sciencey to play against his previous background of magic?? that require them to move and relocate a lot around the world, so he's never really stayed in one spot for more than a year at a time and thus his parents had him homeschooled

- is fluent in Cantonese and English! (Though he still makes some minor grammar mistakes with the latter)

- Prefers to go by Li or Lee because people butcher his first name often

- His father passed away when he's... youngish? Like maybe 3 or 4 so he barely remembers him, and his mother realized early on (probably around the same time his dad passed away) that he's a bright child (or at least hard working) so she makes sure to hire the best tutors and teachers to provide for his education

- His mother intends to have him fill his father's position when he's older!! (One of his older sisters is acting in his spot in the meantime-- he has 4 of them) Whatever that... position may be, but since Xiaolang wants to keep his mother happy now that his father is gone, he pushes himself hard to meet her expectations and to earn her praise when he gets to see her

- Because his mother and sister are essentially running the family businesses, they're barely home, so Xiaolang grew up under the watchful eye of his caretakers/tutors/family guardians and learned to keep himself out of the way as much as possible (although they were happy to have him help out with things, like cooking and laundry, to keep him occupied)

- However, with his family's constant traveling and his sheltered lifestyle, he barely has enough time to make any real connections with other people, so he's become super socially awkward and aloof! Which winds up concerning his mother, since that isn't really that good when you're set to become the next head of the family

- So she makes the decision to send Xiaolang off on his own to Recolle when he's about 12 (not without some initial resistance from him), since they have an excellent schooling system and it'll be a way for him to flex his wings and come out of his shell, so to speak (He's with a guardian though--either a friend of the family or an acquaintance, but they ALSO work long hours so he's home alone a lot)

- Xiaolang's super driven to make the most of himself and have his mother's efforts not be in vain, but it's made him tunnel-visioned as hell and... pretty much do the opposite of what his mom wants, which is not opening up to people whatsoever (Like he's the kid who takes on all the extra-credit projects and extra-curriculars and joins a bunch of sports clubs so it'll look good on his college app later)

- They don't place him in AP classes right away because he arrives in the middle of a semester or something, so he's stuck in regular classes for the time being, and one of them is a science class!! Which Sakura is in!! And they become science partners!! Except Xiaolang is hella pissy to be stuck with someone who has weaknesses in the subject (namely...math), so he chafes against her a lot at first

- But he realizes she's better at the more creative aspects of things (which he's kinda bad at) so they learn to work with one another's strengths and become friends! (Or... well, as close as Xiaolang can get to friends at the moment)

- and now that there's a new year at Rec Middle School, he got moved to more advanced classes, so he can't be around her as much as before but!! HE'LL STILL HELP HER WITH MATH IF SHE NEEDS IT!!! They have English and/or social studies together because Xiaolang isn't nearly as good at non-logic subjects

- also kindofmaybesortof getting the first stirrings of a crush on Sakura but he's still unaware of it haha

- is still a blushy, tsundere mess whenever people compliment him or when people call him out on his crush

- is a Good Boy deep down, just needs someone to get him to stop being a lonely grump

- probably lives in the library because AU!Xiaolang is a Nerd

- has a fondness for sciencey things (namely astronomy and robotics and earth science) because HE IS A HUGE NERD

- also probably has passable knowledge of martial arts but nowhere near as good as his OU counterpart

- also still gullible af because book smarts =/= street smarts so SOMEONE PLEASE DUPE THIS IDIOT CHILD. DUPE HIM HARD

LOOKING FOR: God, pretty much anything?? His AU is still kind of sparse, so I'm willing to edit and rearrange tons of things if it means some excellent AU CR? But if there are some I'd really love in particular:

- A guardian! He's a low maintenance kid who can cook/clean after himself, S'ALL GOOD
- Family members, maybe?? I'm sure the Li clan is pretty extensive so someone could be a second cousin or aunt or something
- CLASSMATES!! Preferably fellow AP students or science nerds or even people who share a same club/extra-curricular with him? Or teachers, even

Izumi was born in Japan, he was an exchange student in recolle during his highschool years. His family back in Japan owns some kind of family-run pharmacy, but Izumi doesn't have much interest in that. He started college in recolle as well as a literature major! But then he took a break to go back to Japan for Some Time, but he is recently returning to continue his education!

He will be rooming with Tsuru/Rindou (

surprising )! His apartment is in birch hills!

I want him to have a part-time job.. Somewhere! But I'm currently thinking on that, but he definitely needs one.

Honestly... Izumi might be your local #jock, an interest in kendo mostly on and off... Does track and field! He Will Run.

Personality wise, Izumi is... Well, he's a bit full of himself! Thinks he's All That, and kind of junk. He's a popular guy, like, have you SEEN HIM. But no, really. Izumi has a strange mix of being very responsible but also not at all- he has a really bad lazy streak unless certain people tell him to do stuff. So Izumi will be an... Average student when it comes to grades, but not completely awful. He's definitely a people person though! Pretty loyal guy too, he could be a good friend if you need one. Also, very tease-able, so light him up.

LOOKING FOR:

Anyone that's down to be this guys friends either from highschool days, or current college buddies! Also people who may share the same major as him (to be honest I know nothing about literature majors... I'm so sorry).

ALSO, if anyone wants to indulge me on a part-time job that'd be great! So if anyone has suggestions and would love to drag Izumi in as a co-worker with a side of co-worker CR I'm totally down with that?

AU History
- born in Japan as Minako's younger twin brother whose name I am going to typo 2309481635 times
- car accident when he was seven: parents were killed, he was hospitalized, Minako went to live with other relatives
- stayed with his paternal grandparents until the end of middle school, when he got sick enough to be hospitalized again
- lived in school dorms through high school
- moved to the U.S. for undergrad (2 years)
- moved to Recollé in October; currently takes online courses for his previous university to graduate in 3 years
- will be attending Recollé University Veterinary School next year

School/work
- literally dumped all his character stats into academics, so he has zero charm or courage
- university student studying veterinary medicine
- low-key interested in human anatomy and physiology and had wanted to become a physician, but believes he isn't able to connect well with people past the surface level due to his tendency to keep people at arm's length
- maybe in the course of the year, he'll have enough personal growth to be able to make the decision to switch from veterinary medicine to internal medicine, who knows
- works at a veterinary clinic; not a vet student yet, so the most he can do is paperwork and shadow the vet and make general recommendations like what foods aren't safe for rabbits or whether a hamster is hypothermic or dead
- vet clinic shares a building with a small senior dog sanctuary; his job involves feeding, cleaning, giving meds, and occasional overnight stays so that there is always a staff member "on call"; sometimes he sleeps over anyways, if it's too late to drive home
- works at Expressive in the afternoons; any extra coffee or wrong orders, he dumps into a thermos while on shift, chugs in the break room when on break, and promptly falls asleep. the caffeine is supposed to wake him up in time for the next shift, but that doesn't always happen

Hobbies
- headphones on 24/7 whenever he's not at work, but disappointingly, he's listening to audio lectures for school and not music; you can probably hear the professor droning on through his headphones when he's running the treadmill at the gym, the volume turned up so he can hear the descriptions of gross anatomy over the machinery
- has breathing problems, so you'll probably also hear him wheezing and dying on the treadmill, but it's okay, he's okay, it's better than running outside in the cold winter air
- plays the clarinet despite, you know, wheezing and dying; can sometimes be found in the University music buildings borrowing one of the soundproof practice rooms
- grandmother taught him how to cook, grandfather taught him watercolors, and he enjoys both these things
- crouches by the side of the streets and sketches roadkill; this is interesting to him for some reason. his finished paintings are in the style of Teagan White
- leaves food out for the crows so he can draw them too, so there's always a murder of crows hanging outside his balcony, sorry neighbors, but they bring him spare change as gifts and is literally funding his college education
- has a website set up like my savior Armando Hasudungan where he draws diagrams of organ systems and teaches anatomy while reviewing the material for his own studies; these videos are available to the public, so university students taking science courses may have stumbled upon them
- there is a "Buy me a coffee" link at the bottom of the page so people can tip him. please tip him. tuition is so expensive

Misc
- quiet, not very talkative, but will text up a storm for like half an hour and then drop everything mid-conversation for four months; appears a lot more at ease talking to your cat or golem or dragon than to your face
- frequent visitor of the shrines at the worship center; goes there on the way back from Expressive on the days he works, claps his hands twice, makes a silent wish, and drops in whatever tips he received that day
- if you find him asleep on a park bench in the winter, please wake him up instead of letting the snow pile on

LOOKING FOR:
- roommates/neighbors (off-campus housing)
- online friends, if your character is the type to take initiative in staying in contact
- just general people around town he might start recognizing by face, especially if they're regulars at Expressive/music building/gym/whatever, take their pets to the vet for checkups, volunteer at the dog sanctuary, etc.
- honestly he just moved here a couple weeks ago and has been settling in, so I'm not too bothered about pre-established CR; use this post for handwaved CR either past, present, or future too!

OPTIONAL ENABLE ME:
It's going to be Minato!!!! But laughs, if I had 500 hrs a day and endless energy, I would play Nanami from Danganronpa and/or Yachi from Haikyuu!! Someday.

☆ Very upbeat sunshine child with too much energy, not a lying liar who lies about this?
☆ Moved to Recollé when he was six years old, so he's been around for ten years and can get The Long-Standing CR.
☆ He's a so-so student who tends to get distracted pretty easily; he's better when he applies himself, but prefers social things and athletic things.
☆ Into/does gymnastics! He actually does competitions and the like and is Fairly Good. He enjoys it? It's fun??? That's the nearest he gets to performances, though.
☆ Also likes running around in general and picking up new skills. Always willing to try something at least once, no matter how weird or stupid.
☆ One of the skills he's picked up is origami, and he'll frequently just fold paper things while he's chatting or sitting to give himself something to Do. He actually has pretty origami paper for this and will hand them out randomly. He insists this is not his Thing, though, it is just A Thing.
☆ If you give him your phone number when friends you probably get texts at terrible hours as well as normal ones, with way too much !!! energy !!! and probably a lot of emojicons and symbols. He will also send links to literally anything that catches his attention. Some of it is terrible, but most is just cutesy or weird.
☆ All around chatty cathy who will talk to anyone at any time about pretty much anything.
☆ Likes spicy food for the time being probably, whoops. It won't last.
☆ Very fond of cats like most of the city I guess, and has one. He loves her. She tolerates him. It's a match made in heaven, maybe.
☆ Good with kids and likes them, possibly because he is a giant child or something.
☆ Has no clue wtf he's doing with his life besides being here to have a good time. Kind of? Wants to be a daycare worker or something??? That sounds fun??? But what if he decides this at the last possible second instead.

✨ Amanda is a bit of a wild child. She's always out for a good time but that includes such things like "learning how to street race in her mom's car"

✨ She really doesn't care about rules or how they apply to her, she does what he wants in her pursuit of hedonism

✨ Granted she's not a bad kid, just... she never quite grew out of her rebellious phase. Her type of mischeif is mostly harmless, and again, fun. She doesn't want to hurt anybody.

✨ She's quite althletic and needs to be kept busy to be kept out of trouble. She's done a wide range of sports, and I'm considering putting her on the track team, but I'm not entirely sure.

✨ Her passion is DANCE. Definitely in some sort of class / elective / both?? In addition to practicing on her own. She also did ballet and gymnastics as a kid by those are phases from a bygone era.

✨ On the flipside, she's awful in school because she finds it too restrictive and boring. Mostly sleeps or slacks off in her classes. She's scraping by but hoooboy she is not excited to hear about all this college application shit. Has definitely threatened to drop out multiple times, has yet to actually do it.

✨ Works odd jobs, mostly in summer, to hoard money to pay off her many, many speeding tickets. Sorry mom.

♡ A very friendly girl! Please love her, she loves friends.
♡ On the other hand she's actually kind of shy and won't often reach out to people at first. She's incredibly loyal once people befriend her and she likes taking a genuine interest in people's lives but she doesn't exactly see herself as dazzling and exciting and rarely puts herself out there.
♡ Moved to Recollé ~10 years ago when she was seven.
♡ She didn't adapt too terribly well at first upon moving and often kept to herself, though she found herself studying her peers a lot to kind of get an idea of how she was supposed to behave.
♡ Because she grew up being very quiet she was sometimes bullied as a child and that led her on her crusade to start building other people up instead.
♡ She's an okay student with decent grades. She is likely the girl who knows all of the material but never raises her hand.
♡ Volunteer work! Rise's a supporter of all things and she loves helping whether it's time at animal shelters, hospitals, volunteer centers, soup kitchens, etc. At school, even if she doesn't attend big events she tries to be part of things like dance committees, holiday things, pep rallies, etc.
♡ Probably like the secretary of the Student Council because she's good at keeping track of things and listening to other people.
♡ She secretly dreams about when she'll get to college and be able to revamp her entire look and appeal and personality because she foolishly believes a bigger peer pool will help :')
♡ Has horrible stage fright.
♡ But has studied ballet for several years. She's very serious about it because she doesn't have to say anything at all and her footwork and posture do all the talking.
♡ While she's generally very polite and shies away from strangers, with her friends she's the friend that doesn't hold back from her true opinions. When she's comfortable with people, she's more prone to smiling, chatting a lot and being very energetic and bubbly.
♡ The advice-giver and the mom-friend, Rise will often check on everybody else's needs whenever she can.
♡ Most importantly, Rise is the middle child stuck between an older brother who's currently away for college (and whom she misses terribly) and a younger brother who is also in high school (Hinata Aoi, AU name Hinata Morisawa.) She is very protective of her younger brother, lowkey idolizes her older brother, and if you aren't nice to her siblings she will actually get aggressive because her brothers!! are!! the greatest!! bye!!!!!

AU AGE: 17
AU OCCUPATION: Student
BLURB:
-Marina is adopted, having been living with her grandmother as her only living relative that would take her until she was about four, when her grandmother passed away. Her parents were family friends, and decided to adopt her.

-She's originally from a small beach-side town called Destiny in California, where her dad was the mayor for two terms before deciding to move to Recolle out of the blue in what is probably a mid-life crisis, taking Marina out of school mid-term.

-She just got here in October as a senior in high school, and she's very sore about the whole thing, and hasn't been trying very hard to integrate as a result. She's not been unfriendly to people, but hasn't really tried to make any friends, and has absolutely zero ability to get around town at all.

-Marina's a bit of a trouble maker, always skipping school and getting into shenanigans when she can.

-She tends to hang out with a shady crowd (though not too bad), usually older because it makes her feel cooler, and her favorite thing to do is urban exploration, like breaking into abandoned buildings.

-She really enjoys the adrenaline rush of doing things she isn't supposed to do, as well as things like roller coasters and horror movies, anything that gets her blood pumping.

-Because she hasn't been trying to integrate very well so far, she hasn't really been skipping school or anything lately, mostly because she has nowhere to go if she does. It's been driving her up the wall, because she finds school boring despite doing well in it. She doesn't really like to sit still for very long unless she has her hands occupied with something she enjoys doing.

-She doesn't like to stay at home much either, as her parents don't have a really good marriage and it can be stressful to be around them when they argue all the time.

-To destress and unwind, Marina runs an etsy shop where she sells charms and small knitted and sewn dolls, it's fairly successful. The shop name is "princessthalassa".

-Her other passion is creative writing, and she's won some small competitions for it before. It's also her ideal career, to write in whatever capacity, even if it's just for companies.

-Marina's got Kairi's negative traits ramped up to the next degree. She's reckless and stubborn, and very much the act first, think later type. She tends to hold onto slights against her and simmer on them for a while, rather than being a forgive and forget type like Kairi is. Marina's also much more pessimistic about the world than Kairi, who's an extreme optimist, and has some issues with jealousy.

-Otherwise, she still retains Kairi's playfulness, teasing and sassiness, and she's someone who's cheerful, kindhearted, and an extremely good friend, as well as being courageous, brave, and determined. Definitely still outspoken, too.

LOOKING FOR:
She doesn't really have any friends yet, but you sure can be her classmate or have attempted to befriend her! Once she gets into game, she'll be more willing to actually be friends with people because of the new excitement of the situation. Teachers also welcome (she has probably slept through class or stared in space the whole time more than once), and would be potentially up to discussing the idea of relatives. Future CR planning also welcome!

AU OCCUPATION: Dance instructor/choreographer; also takes part time online classes for a diploma in fashion merchandising/design
BLURB:

- Born in Recolle; happens to be a quarter French on his mother's side
- Both parents worked and was fairly well off, was taken care of by his grandmother for most of his childhood
- Childhood friends with Kuro (taishou) and did sports together, but he hated it so much mostly because he was a small and scrawny child who was bad at sports and got bullied a lot for it.
- Was inspired to pick up ballet when he watched "The Nutcracker" during his first year of elementary school.
- Actually had a lot of raw talent! Trained in ballet and jazz and was mentored by a prominent figure in the dance community, who basically worked him really really hard in order to send him for competitions and other showcases. He was pretty much a prodigy, all things considered, but he also got used to spending most of his waking hours aside from school in the dance studio.
- Was involved in a lot of performing arts/dance things; his mentor also did freelance work and that's how he met Nazuna Nito (pronounces) for the first time
- His mentor sent him for competitions both locally and abroad and he became a pretty big name in the local dance community due to how consistent his performances were and how his technical scores were usually perfect.
- Graduated from a performing arts high school and moved into being a professional dancer full-time.
- Got into a pretty terrible accident during competition season (hip alignment injury, several broken bones, torn muscles) and left Recolle for about three years to recover + intense physical therapy. Completely disappeared from the dance and competition scene without a word.
- Will never really be able to dance the way he did before; the physical therapy allowed him to continue, but he can't do his nine hour days in the studio anymore
- Switched to a focus on choreography/performance direction instead; has a small but growing portfolio of video and stage credits which he started while he was still recovering
- Only recently moved back to Recolle now that he's about 95% recovered! Has a day (evening, really) job teaching classes at Dance!! Studio and also trains the university's dance team during competition season
- Is also taking online classes for a diploma in fashion merchandising and design. He knows his career as a dancer is short lived as heck, so this is a back-up option.

- Opposite for when someone tries to bring him a coin or an item he doesn’t want and he tells them to quit wasting his time. Bad luck for days. Rumors are that he's bad luck in general.
- Basically, his dumbass shop is just filled with superstitions or something.
- His personal luck is shitty. Probably has gone through four cell phones this year, his car has been in the shop far too many times over stupid things, had a dog and a cat who both died at random, stuff like that. But despite all that he seems to have a positive attitude and not have it affect his outlook on life. Basically a lot of things,
living and objects, die on him.
- There are probably jokes about him being the grim reaper as a result.
- Likes to feed the squirrels.
- The oldest child in his family and the only male. Probably has at least two little sisters and he talks about them all the time.
- Probably traveled the world before settling in Recolle so he’s well versed in cultures as well as some in history.
