AU WORKSHOP - OCTOBER Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. Please respond to the post with the below form, and/or feel free to comment to anyone else to work things out! Please be aware that posting to this workshop does not guarantee you a reserve, and that multiple players are permitted to workshop the same character. Please find our mod questions comment here. IMPORTANT INFORMATION World changes FAQ • As per our game-wide poll, we will be holding an application round in October and in November! After that, apps will resume their bi-monthly schedule. The game calendar has now been updated with the dates for this. • Please note: you need a reserve to apply, so please plan accordingly! Reservation dates can also be found on the game calendar and coincide with the TDM. • For current players who are interested in 2nd or 3rd characters, please review and follow our policy about AC! To reserve a 2nd character you must have a pass for the previous month's AC with your first character. For a 3rd character, you must have a pass for the previous two months' AC for both of your characters. In addition, we do ask that the AC for the current month be met and filled into your AC comment by the time of your reserve. It must be full AC. This means you must have 20 comments between at least 2 and at most 4 threads and one memory regain listed for the current month's AC period. BLURB:

(all previously discussed with keystaff!)

- Born in Hong Kong, his family are the heads of a very prestigious business or company of sorts?? Maybe engineering or something sciencey to play against his previous background of magic?? that require them to move and relocate a lot around the world, so he's never really stayed in one spot for more than a year at a time and thus his parents had him homeschooled

- is fluent in Cantonese and English! (Though he still makes some minor grammar mistakes with the latter)

- Prefers to go by Li or Lee because people butcher his first name often

- His father passed away when he's... youngish? Like maybe 3 or 4 so he barely remembers him, and his mother realized early on (probably around the same time his dad passed away) that he's a bright child (or at least hard working) so she makes sure to hire the best tutors and teachers to provide for his education

- His mother intends to have him fill his father's position when he's older!! (One of his older sisters is acting in his spot in the meantime-- he has 4 of them) Whatever that... position may be, but since Xiaolang wants to keep his mother happy now that his father is gone, he pushes himself hard to meet her expectations and to earn her praise when he gets to see her

- Because his mother and sister are essentially running the family businesses, they're barely home, so Xiaolang grew up under the watchful eye of his caretakers/tutors/family guardians and learned to keep himself out of the way as much as possible (although they were happy to have him help out with things, like cooking and laundry, to keep him occupied)

- However, with his family's constant traveling and his sheltered lifestyle, he barely has enough time to make any real connections with other people, so he's become super socially awkward and aloof! Which winds up concerning his mother, since that isn't really that good when you're set to become the next head of the family

- So she makes the decision to send Xiaolang off on his own to Recolle when he's about 12 (not without some initial resistance from him), since they have an excellent schooling system and it'll be a way for him to flex his wings and come out of his shell, so to speak (He's with a guardian though--either a friend of the family or an acquaintance, but they ALSO work long hours so he's home alone a lot)

- Xiaolang's super driven to make the most of himself and have his mother's efforts not be in vain, but it's made him tunnel-visioned as hell and... pretty much do the opposite of what his mom wants, which is not opening up to people whatsoever (Like he's the kid who takes on all the extra-credit projects and extra-curriculars and joins a bunch of sports clubs so it'll look good on his college app later)

- They don't place him in AP classes right away because he arrives in the middle of a semester or something, so he's stuck in regular classes for the time being, and one of them is a science class!! Which Sakura is in!! And they become science partners!! Except Xiaolang is hella pissy to be stuck with someone who has weaknesses in the subject (namely...math), so he chafes against her a lot at first

- But he realizes she's better at the more creative aspects of things (which he's kinda bad at) so they learn to work with one another's strengths and become friends! (Or... well, as close as Xiaolang can get to friends at the moment)

- and now that there's a new year at Rec Middle School, he got moved to more advanced classes, so he can't be around her as much as before but!! HE'LL STILL HELP HER WITH MATH IF SHE NEEDS IT!!! They have English and/or social studies together because Xiaolang isn't nearly as good at non-logic subjects

- also kindofmaybesortof getting the first stirrings of a crush on Sakura but he's still unaware of it haha

- is still a blushy, tsundere mess whenever people compliment him or when people call him out on his crush

- is a Good Boy deep down, just needs someone to get him to stop being a lonely grump

- probably lives in the library because AU!Xiaolang is a Nerd

- has a fondness for sciencey things (namely astronomy and robotics and earth science) because HE IS A HUGE NERD

- also probably has passable knowledge of martial arts but nowhere near as good as his OU counterpart

- also still gullible af because book smarts =/= street smarts so SOMEONE PLEASE DUPE THIS IDIOT CHILD. DUPE HIM HARD


LOOKING FOR: God, pretty much anything?? His AU is still kind of sparse, so I'm willing to edit and rearrange tons of things if it means some excellent AU CR? But if there are some I'd really love in particular:

- A guardian! He's a low maintenance kid who can cook/clean after himself, S'ALL GOOD
- Family members, maybe?? I'm sure the Li clan is pretty extensive so someone could be a second cousin or aunt or something
- CLASSMATES!! Preferably fellow AP students or science nerds or even people who share a same club/extra-curricular with him? Or teachers, even
- SOMEONE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF HIS GULLIBILITY, PLEASE
- academic rivals, maybe?? or even romantic ones
- actually if anyone has Moon related powers he's proooobably going to develop an awkward crush on you at some point because this is a Thing in canon
- someone to tease him mercilessly over his crush on Sakura when that time comes P L E A S E

Derek will be completely on board to tease him mercilessly. Derek lives to tease people. Derek already has a bit of CR with Sakura and is a regular at the bakery she works at. So if Li hangs around there, he will meet Derek. And Derek is CSI, so he will be up for having science talk with Li if Li ever so desires!

especially because after the first time he visits her job (completely by accident, since he didn't realize she worked there), he's going to be awkwardly hanging around outside, trying to find a good reason to say hi and being obvious af over it (and also probably going over his school notes/books, so that would be a good jumping on point for science things too!)

also the conversations about magic are probably going to be GREAT once he finally regains his powers hahah

SYAORAN I don't know if you know this, but the Recollé equivalent of Card Captor Sakura is Card Captor Sakuya, and her partner is Syaorin, because Minako and her friend Shuji cosplayed from it a while back :3c

ALSO Minako is one of the established part-timers at the Confectionary where Sakura works, so maybe she'll have seen him around sometime???

Actually, are regains of any sort gained by seeing bootleg versions of their canon? Because I can imagine Xiaolang seeing a photo of their cosplay at some point and being like '....WAIT'

And she will DEFINITELY BE SEEING HIM AROUND, he will be the awkward preteen loitering around outside because he's too shy to casually come in and say hi to the girl he kindofsortof has a crush on!! So clearly someone needs to make sure he actually comes inside and buys something for once instead of just standing around the front of the store like the huge nerd he is

She's also got that lovely "hey, genius children who were raised by distant parents" thing going on, so def they should have some cr going. Maybe he writes to her or something? It's possible she may have heard of his family's company? I'm still not 100% sure what it is as of yet, but maybe they're engineers for science equipment or something? They definitely have their funds in a lot of projects, though! Also he might have found her books in his parents' library at some point and read it out of curiosity, and learning that she teaches at Recolle probably was the thing that convinced him to agree to the move in the first place!

But man, yeah, he probably would be the type to write those kinds of letters, and probably KEEPS doing it so she can consider him for a future advanced program or something? He probably lowkey fanboys over her too, sobs

Juri's about the same age as him, they could be classmates? She moves to the city about the end of October or the beginning of November, but generally tries to approach people first. Though if not classmates, she'll be in the school newspaper as the photojournalist, so she might see and try to befriend him when his club's being covered on the paper.

(Also she would definitely get excited over his crush on Sakura the moment she knows who Sakura is and notice of said crush.)

He's such an awkward and aloof turtle, though, so Juri's definitely going to have to do some legwork to get him to open up hahah (although considering he just moved to Recolle a year ago himself, he's probably going to be able to relate with her better than others)

also omg if she ever pulls off getting the love/fortune-telling column in the school newspaper, Xiaolang's 100% going to be trying to read it on the downlow and see what the prospects are for Aries/Cancer couples and Juri should totes call him out on it
