TEST DRIVE

JANUARY TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé... What do you mean the city's behaving for once? I. The large opaque dome enveloping the entire city continues to stand tall and firm, though this may be the first time you've noticed the dome itself rather than believe it's simply an eclipse effect. Faintly reflective in appearance but blocking the outside world, the dome still allows the warmth of the weak winter sunlight to seep through. It isn't hard to breathe, and the flora and fauna seem to be responding just as naturally as always. But the city of Recollé is pitch black except for the light citizens shine themselves. The dome stretches incredibly high over the city, but anyone who can get close enough to it will find that they can briefly see themselves in the surface. Upon touching the dome, it appears to be smooth and almost rubbery in texture despite a shell-like shield appearance. Soundproof and unable to provide clues to what's happening outside of the city the dome is also harmless for those who wish to touch it and examine it, causing it to bounce a few times under light impact. However, do be careful not to trigger its defense mode! Should anyone attempt to damage the dome itself, it will light up with a bright, sickening blue color for three seconds before delivering a shock to its attacker and rendering them unconscious for an hour. Perhaps you'll get lucky and you'll only deal with the too-hot-to-touch surface that self-activates when the dome is threatened, or the spikes that appear at the source of impact. The dome seems to have a temperament of its own. It may be best to treat it the way you want to be treated. II. Going about your normal day, the darkness seems endless aside from whatever light can be shed via flashlights, cell phones and interior lights inside buildings. However, as you wander the streets of the city, under your feet a swirl of yellow light appears before darting ahead, bouncing and bobbing its way over snow and concrete to create a clear path for you. It's a little convenient to have a guide to follow, but you're not the only one. Others around you are following their own lights and they all seem to gather right at the entrance of the old subway station. Perpetually under construction for as long as you can remember, the station appears to be wide open for anyone who ventures in. The light will guide you for roughly twenty-five feet before it dies down again. You're allowed to turn back, of course. There's nothing stopping you...except for the vine that suddenly snakes along the ground and wraps around your ankle, hooking onto you and beginning to drag you further into the tunnels. Now would be a good time to start calling for help. III. Back in the city itself, it's hard to say who, exactly, is to blame for the first hit. People are minding their own business and moving on as if everything is perfectly natural as usual. However, in addition to the hustle and bustle small barrels appear on every street corner with an assortment of colored guns. The moment you step up to investigate one of these barrels it becomes a little more clear what, exactly, is happening here. A bright red, green, or blue dot appears on your skin as the laser light hones in on you. Someone's decided to make you their next target in a city-wide game of laser tag and you have precisely ten seconds to run. For anyone tagged by the guns, a confetti-effect of red green and blue dots will appear all over you lasting for up to fifteen minutes before you're back in the game. Will you grab your weapons and join the game? Or will you dodge as long as you can? IV. As the evening sets in, there's a smell in the air. It's not the usual winter-y scent of peppermint or warm soup or anything like that. No, you soon realize that the smell is buttered popcorn and now instead of the barrels of laser tag guns there are carts containing popcorn machines, bottles of soda, candy and more. These carts don't move and they do not seem to be manned by anybody so feel free to take as much as you'd like! At precisely 7pm, the street lights dim a little and the dome above you starts to...glow? It glows and a picture stretches all the way across the sky as a movie begins to play for your enjoyment. Maybe it's the first of the Galaxy Fights series, or it could be that crazy archaeologist turned fortune-hunter Kentucky Smith. The movies will rotate one after the other for the rest of the evening until 7am when the street lamps come on, but for now grab some blankets and a good seat. There's always time for a movie with some friends. BONUS. Of course communication to people outside of the city is still out of the question. Of course it is. There are absolutely no signs of that changing anytime soon no matter how many times you call or text or email. Snail mail is nearly impossible and don't even think about videochatting. On the other hand, it seems as though the powerlines above are beginning to spark, pulsing in patterns of a bright blue color visible to the naked eye. What's up with that? Trying to get a closer look will only reveal a thick, crackling sort of energy that is surely not dangerous in the slightest and is nothing to worry about. The energy won't leave the powerlines at all, but instead the next time you use your phone for anything a song activates instead. It's loud and it can't be shut down, but once it ends you may find yourself in a video chat with a fellow Retrospec user. Say hi! Welcome to the recolle test drive meme! I. It's always lasers with you

[ Astin is among the many residents who are no doubt out and about in the city trying to go about their daily business. Astin breezes down the sidewalk in their usual fashionable and feminine style, intent on arrving at their next class or perhaps just getting some lunch when they come upon one of those strange, ubiquitous barrels that seem to have popped up everywhere. Curiously, the young Beaufort peers in at the various laser guns before they notice the sudden dot hovering on the front of their clothes. ]

Whoa--hey! You're not getting me THAT easy!

[ Not one to be caught unarmed, Astin snatches up a gun at random (it happen to be blue) and dives for cover, heedless of whoever they knock down or drag behind the nearest trash-can with them. Grimly, Astin prepares themselves for what's sure to be a knock-down, drag-out war. ]

II. Night at the movies

[ The prospect of out-door movies has Astin aflutter and they've grabbed whoever they've found to join them. Bag slung over their shoulder packed with blankets and bundled up nice and warm against the cold, Astin is positively set on dragging someone to the movies with them (even with the general weirdness of watching the films on a dome). Pausing at one of the carts, they happily begin loading down their companion(s) with popcorn, candy, and soda, chattering all the while. ]

Can you believe this? This is just perfect? We can get nice and snug under these blankets and then we can just curl up and watch some movie classics outside under the stars! Or the dome. Whatever. The important part is the movies, right?

III. Eye 2 Eye

[ Astin GROANS as they blearily open up their phone to check the time. It's far, far too early to have their alarm go off. So, when they try to open up their phone to see what time it is, instead they get a blare of music and a video chat with some other unfortunate soul. ]

Whassit--what's goin' on? It's too eaaaaaarllllly....

[ WHINE WHINE WHINE. ]

[here is a link to my plotting comment! Her name is Manami Wells, or Mana, and she's 21 going on 22 in her final semester at the University.]

I.

[Mana often woke up early in the morning, so having it dark out wasn't too out of the question. She continues about her morning routine, combing her hair and brushing her teeth and eating cereal as one does, but the longer time went on, the longer things seemed to just... not get any brighter. Confused, Mana peeks out the window -- nothing unusual out there besides the darkness, everything seemed to be functioning as normal and no one seemed to care, just using their phone flashlights and other tools to get about with their day. Humming in curiosity, she gets dressed and sets out to investigate.

A bus ride and a bit of walking later, Mana hits the edge of the dome. She squints at the semblance of herself she could see in the material, poking it a few times and blinking as it bounced back against her fingers. Huh.]

I'm still dreaming, right? There's no way I'm actually looking at a giant dome surrounding the entirety of the city.

II.

[Mana had followed the lights to the tunnels much as many else had, peeking in and taking a few steps forward before ultimately deciding it would be a rather dumb idea to venture in an abandoned, possibly dangerous subway system armed with nothing but her wits and her phone light. So, she turns around to make her way back out, but not before a vine curls its way along the floor and wraps around her ankle, giving a quick tug to send her flying to the floor, phone skittering a few feet away. With a cry of alarm, she grabs onto the nearest anchored object, holding on tight as the vine attempted to drag her further in, now without even the comfort of a light to guide her.]

Help?!

[There were plenty other people that had wandered in, someone had to be nearby to save her...!]

III.

[Well, this day was certainly weird enough, so why not add some laser tag? She wasn't particularly busy with anything, so she settles herself around a corner and behind some boxes to keep hidden from the passersby, aiming her gun through a gap between the boxes and shooting people down as they passed, enjoying the sounds of them groaning in anger as they were temporarily put out of commission.]

Heh...


IV.

[This day just had to end as bizarre as it started, didn't it? Well, she was just gonna roll with it, she supposed.

Mana had pulled up a chair near one of the food carts on the University campus, reclined back with a bag of popcorn on her chest and a soda in her hand, staring up at the movie playing in the sky above the town. She wasn't quite sure how the sound was so crisp given she had no idea where either the movie or the sound was being projected from, but ah well. Who was she to question anything going on today? It had to be some sort of elongated fever dream.

Anyone that comes up to the stand will get a wave and a gesture to join her if they wanted, all with a kind and enthusiastic smile.]

[Well, she had wanted to check her school email, but instead she was staring down at the face of someone else, and she blinks a few times before holding up her free hand to wave slightly.]

I. the dome of doom
[ Ah, okay. This is totally fine. Korra's not super pleased with being trapped inside the city. She has her friends, and her fiancee, but also... ]

Stupid dome!

[ Oh no. In fact, Korra's so mad, that she ends up winding her fist back. It's probably the worst idea she's had in a while, but this stupid dome is causing problems, right? Maybe a little brute force is necessary sometimes. And it's just a dome--what can she do?

She throws a punch... and the thing heats up and leaves her with a hurt hand and a shocked yell. Maybe someone should tell her not to kick it now... ]

III. han shot first
[ Korra is really just minding her business when the lights appear. There's a split second where she doesn't react; she's too shocked to suddenly have been pulled into this thing. Fortunately, her reflexes are quick, and she dives to the ground to avoid being hit. She rolls back up to her feet, and that's when she sees them. ]

That's more like it.

[ She's grinning widely, from ear to ear, as she raises a blue gun. ]

Alright, which one of you suckers wants to come and get me!

[ Ah, the song is playing, and loudly. Korra smacks her phone a few times, and by the time the song winds down, she's about ready to raise hell. Luckily, it cuts off, and...

Huh. ]

Uh. [ Nice. Smooth. ] Hi there?

[ An abomination, she calls it. A mighty wonder, she also thinks.

For as Semira follows the gliding light down into an unknown location, there has been nobody to really discuss these sudden changes she's recently witnessed unfolding around her. Constant darkness, their city encased in a dome, attempts to make her weekly call to her parents subjecting her ears to constant static and robotic apologies instead of stern judgement and frantic advice.

Reaching the entrance of the old subway station, footfalls leaving a visible trail of prints in the snow, the woman tosses a singular look over her shoulder. Then she looks forward, in the stark darkness within the station. Semira stands still, motionless, not taking the plunge forward just yet. Eyebrow twitching, she presses her fingers against her temple and expels an exasperated sigh. ]

This is absurd.

IV.
[ Semira cannot tear her eyes away from this spectacle in the skies above. None of the cinematic choices seem to be much to her liking. Run-of-the-mill CGI movies have never been her cup of tea. But there's definitely something to be said about watching giant-sized robots duking it out on the big, big screen.

Processing all this in before returning home, she slows down her gait when a park comes into view. The film has concluding, rounding the conclusion off with ending credits. Semira approaches someone looking up at the skies, taking the initiative of sitting down next to them, folding a leg over another. Perhaps she knows you, perhaps she doesn't -- hardly makes much of a difference. ]

How much do you think they have spent on this endeavor? [ Hands spread in a wide gesture to the dome above, emphasis on the mysterious they. ] By the looks of it, this is a billion dollar enterprise.

BONUS.

[ Whatever the video chat may be, and that terrible song to boot, Semira remains unfazed. She smiles at the camera without much emotion meeting her eyes. ]

Fancy meeting you here, with such a lovely tune to set the mood. [ She looks around her kitchen, tilting her head in curiosity. ]

What do you think I should drink tonight to celebrate our fateful encounter, hm?

[ Kei responds in turn, mildly surprised to actually be called upon, but it seems to have been a glitch. ]

There is nothing wrong with red wine. The dark skies seems to call for some color, don't they? I'd say white, but the pale shade against the black... well, perhaps, that isn't such a bad idea.

I.

[ So it looks like you, much like Maki, have spent the time and energy to traverse the elements and examine the edge of the dome. She's a little wary (as one properly should be, she'd argue) but she's also way too curious. ]

Well?

[ She asks (though it sounds a little bit like a demand) expectantly. ]

Are you going to touch it?

[ Touch it or you're a wuss, the edge in her voice seems to suggest. She doesn't wanna touch it herself, so she's just gonna be pushy about you touching it instead. ]

II.

[ So while she'd erred on the side of caution with the dome, she seems to have been a little less wary with this mysterious light and tunnel.

You'll find her gripping for dear life to a trashcan mounted to the ground, as the vine around her ankle tries to tug her further into the tunnel's depths. ]

Don't just stand there! Do something!

[ She's pretty demanding for someone who's asking for help, huh? ]

III.

[ While she hasn't taken part in the game yet (because laser tag is stupid and for kids), she's certainly grabbed a gun herself (in case you know, someone else decided to shoot first).

Maybe you're reaching for your own gun. Maybe you're just going into your jacket pocket for your phone. Hell, maybe you're just trying to cover your mouth for a sneeze or gave her a weird look.

Whatever it is you did, she pulls out her own gun and points it right at you.]

Don't even think about it.

[ She sounds pretty serious. ]

BONUS.

[ The song is way too loud and goes on for way too long-- and she's terrified of waking up her whole household. She does everything to try and turn it off, but alas, none of it seems successful.

So naturally, she freaks out even more and tries to smother it with her favorite stuffed animal. When the music stops and the video feed comes through, you're greeted by this beloved face.

Maki's face appears in the corner of the screen, cheek pressed against her stuffed animal's so she can see better (it looks a little like she's trying to make sure she doesn't block the bird's view; silly Maki stuffed animals don't have working eyes! ]

Oh, sorry.. I didn't mean to call you. But, uh hi? I Guess?

[ Korra can't turn down someone in need, after all... and this is a serious situation. She's a fair distance away, but she's a fast runner. When she's close to the girl, she slams her foot down on the vines, hoping it'll make them recoil. ]

I'm gonna try to lift you up to get you out of here, alright?!

Atsushi Nakajima | Bungou Stray Dogs

[You can find basic info about Atsushi here! He’s an 18 year old college student going for a degree in social services and works part time at a bakery. His hair is black instead of white and his eyes are dark brown instead of two-toned.]

II. Poor Unfortunate Soul

[Sometimes Atsushi wonders how people could possibly hate the holidays; sure he’s just finished an order for three hundred intricately decorated sugar cookies at the bakery, and sure it’s almost midnight, but he does love his job, and having to walk home at night really isn’t a huge deal. Recollé is mostly safe...as far as he knows. As he walks the familiar path back to his modest apartment, Atsushi notices an odd yellow light appear at his feet...what??? It’s not a flashlight...so what is it?? Oh...it’s darting off!! Curiousity gets the better of him and he simply has to follow, and everyone else is doing it, so why not?

He follows the light all the way to the perpetually closed subway tunnels, and while he’s curious as to what lies within, he’s seen enough horror movies to know that maybe going inside isn’t such a good idea. Well, that was...interesting, but it’s time to go home. He has class tomorrow, after all. He turns to leave when suddenly something snakes around his foot and starts dragging him towards the tunnels, and he begins to panic, eyes wide as he scrambles for purchase on the asphalt.]

H-help!! Somebody!!! Please!!!

IV. See You in the Pictures

[Atsushi is certainly an amateur gourmet, or perhaps even a glutton, and the scent of buttered popcorn filling the air makes his mouth water. He wonders if it’s really okay to take this food...is it actually free? He’s reluctant, but in the end he grabs an armful of popcorn, soda, and candy as he takes a seat on an unmanned blanket on the grass. He looks up at the dome with awe as a picture comes into focus, and oh, he’s so excited to watch a movie outdoors! He spots a fellow citizen nearby and waves.]

Isn’t this exciting? I’ve never seen a movie outdoors before!

Bonus: Hello From the Other Side

[Atsushi is about to set a timer for some cupcakes he’d just put in the oven on his phone, but the moment he unlocks it a VERY LOUD song begins playing!! He fumbles and nearly drops his phone in surprise, utterly confused, and once the music dies he finds himself staring at someone through video chat. What???]

U-um!!! I don’t know what just happened, sorry!! But...hi?

Hold still, kid.

[ The voice may seem like it's coming out of nowhere. But if Atsushi focuses, he might notice that there's a young man in a tracksuit next to him, blue eyes somehow bright in the dim, a battered katana in hand. The sword cuts through the vine with one easy swipe, leaving Atsushi free to rise. ]

Relax. They're more bark than bite.

I. THE FAULT IN OUR GLOW-IN-THE-DARK STARS

[there’s a little trail of discarded sticker packs leading up to one of the walls of the dome. following the trail only leads to basil, bundled up in a parka that squeaks every time he reaches up to position a star-shaped glow-in-the-dark sticker. from the looks of it, he’s been at this for awhile, grouping the stars into two clusters that almost resemble eyes. currently, he’s working on the mouth, comprised solely of all the single crescent moons.

except. he’s run out. there’s only one moon per package as opposed to all fifty million stars crammed inside each one. he’s in a pickle, scowling quizzically at the star he’s debating placing mid-mouth.

luckily, you’ve come to help.]

Does this look weird?

[he didn’t even look back to see you. he’s that focused.]

II. HAPPY FEET MINUS THE PENGUINS

[remember the billie jean music video? that’s happening. except this time instead of a solo performance, it’s a mix between a duet and a race. basil doesn’t chase after the light, he dances with it, a modern gene kelly weaving with the light through the city streets. it’s a pretty mindless, blissful activity that he seems sincerely ecstatic performing–

–up until he spots the subway tunnel. then it’s a stop short and a frown. he stands still for a minute, listening, hearing nothing, and then crouching down, as if to get a better look inside.]

Guess it’s as good a spot as any to have a rave.

[why else would fancy ass lights guide people there.]

III. NO BETTER TRICK THAN GOOD HOSPITALITY

[you know what’s a great hiding place for refuge from the war outside? a nice old italian restaurant. despite the chaos outside, it seems peaceful. filled with regular early-birds and the occasional young parents, trying to convince their child it wants some spaghetti. overall, it seems like a nice place to sit down, relax, grab a drink or a bite to eat, and maybe plot out your next move.

at some point, the waiter will come over. either after you’ve ordered food or while you’re still considering the menu. maybe he’s bringing you some drinks. either way he comes up to you with a small smile, hands you your food or drink or whatever.]

Oh, and one more thing. [basil holds up a finger and reaches into the pocket of his apron. he pulls out a blue laser gun and aims it straight at you.

he’s still smiling though it seems less timid than it once did.] Bad luck~★

[ She scoffs, like it's the most obvious thing in the world. Was he even looking at it? ]

You know how religious people always say things like 'God sees everything you do'? That's the first thing I think of when I look at this.

Sakichi Ishida | Rengoku ni Warau

There hasn't been much mail to deliver lately. Sakichi hadn't paid much thought toward why that might be until now. He stares up at the colossal dome encapsulating the city, and feels faintly disturbed that he's never noticed it before. Why did he think the darkness befalling the city was simply a natural weather event? Absurd. The light beaming from the headlamp strapped onto his trusty postal cap reaches for the distant dome, futile.

... Well. Regardless, there's nothing he can do about it at the moment. He's got a bag full of mail that won't deliver itself. Mail first, eerie black dome second. Sakichi trots off to continue his route.

As he walks along, he notices that everyone else is just going about their day as usual. Is he the only one who's noticed the giant black prison they're in? Surely not. So as he hands the mail off, he asks you, the convenient Retrospec user on hand: ]

Excuse me. Has that dome always been there?


[ I-b.

Sakichi's done with work. He travels out to the edge of the dome.

His colleagues at the post office were unable to provide him with a satisfactory answer in regards to the correlation between the dome and the recent decrease in mail traffic. Sakichi will just have to probe this issue himself.

Cautious, he picks up a rock and chucks it at the dome. It lights up for three seconds and then zaps him. He blacks out.

... Someone should probably deal with his unconscious ass before someone else trips over him. ]


[ III.

So a mysterious black dome is sealing your city away from all outside contact. Big deal. If your higher-ups say it isn't a problem, it isn't a problem. You keep delivering the mail.

However, a problem arises when you get laser tagged and confetti starts raining down on you. The confetti invades every aspect of your being, including your mail satchel. Confetti-covered mail is both unprofessional and an annoyance to its recipient. Therefore, laser tag death is not an option.

Here's your local mailman traveling under the cover of darkness. No lights to guide his way, the better to travel in stealth. He avoids the streetlamps and ensures that he has a cover option at all times; he must be prepared for an ambush. He can assume no citizen's intent.

So like. Yeah, here's your dimly lit mailman crouched behind a bush or low wall, only his hat and eyes visible, a laser sight trained on you. ]

Please show me your laser gun.

[Humans are kind of dumb.

Tanuki is hundreds of years old but he still has it in his old bones to wiggle at attention upon seeing the green-haired one! The freeloader!! He scutters back worriedly because Baren's not here? Baren's somewhere else in the city, doing Baren things. But this is Baren's human! What's a tanuki to do.

Tanuki does a double-take upon noticing that the freeloader picked up a rock. Is the freeloader going to fight the wall?

The freeloader fought the wall!

. . . .

The wall won!

Tanuki goes to investigate, sniffing at the freeloader's face.

Wake up, freeloader, you can't sleep here. That's bad for humans.]

Charlotte | Fire Emblem: Fates (Conquest)

(ooc: workshop comment is here! Charlotte is a small town girl turned university student and part time security guard! She's a little two-faced but not as much as her canon counterpart!)

II.

[ Charlotte's bored on a shift, and while she normally wouldn't be taken by curiosity over a little trailing light, the more it pesters her, the more she wants to follow it. So she abandons her post briefly to track it down, stopping at the subway. Really, the subway that's been closed since she moved to the city? She rolls her eyes. ]

Well that's not creepy at all.

[ She shines her flashlight into the entrance, not seeing anything suspicious. Maybe she should investigate further! It's her job as a security guard to make sure the perimeter is safe, right? And she's brave! Totally brave. So she follows the light until it finally fades and looks a little disappointed at the destination. Nothing of note here either. Was it a prank just to get her to leave her post? She angrily turns around and starts trekking back when that vine lashes out and grabs her by the ankle. ]

Eeeee! Eeek, gross!! [ She kicks at it while it starts to drag her. ] Help me! Oh, somebody help!!

[ She's just a poor defenseless maiden after all. ]


III.

[ Charlotte nearly runs into one of the barrels on her way to the store. She blinks at it and double takes at its contents, wondering what the big idea was. They're promoting guns in this city now? That's not safe at all. She's looking around, wondering who to complain to about this, when a green dot appears on her arm. ]

Huh? What's thi— Oh no you don't!

[ By the end of the day, Charlotte's kind of exhausted from all the running around. She's kind of relieved she doesn't work tonight. It's as if someone's granting her wish of relaxing at home and doing nothing but watching mindless films when she smells that popcorn and sees the screen unwinding.

But Charlotte's also a social person. So as she walks through the University campus, she grabs herself some (light) snacks and then finds someone who looks approachable and interesting. Either a hot guy or a sweet girl. ]

[ Well the sparking had been weird, but not enough to deter Charlotte from her usual Instagram Modeling. She's on her bed in a nightie when suddenly her phone goes off and plays that obnoxious song. She shakes her phone as if that will help. ]

Ugh, what is that awful music? Stop it alrea— Oh. [ Suddenly she's staring face to face with another person. And she gets a little red in the cheeks. Modeling to faceless strangers is one thing, but seeing another person up close is... too intimate, okay?! ] W-what are you staring at?!

[ Sakichi hears a cry for help, so he answers. He's a straightforward sucker like that.

He rushes into the subway, the light from his headlamp falling on Charlotte and the vine ensnaring her. That is clearly not normal vine behavior, but there's no time to ponder it when this poor innocent woman is being dragged away. ]

Hold on, ma'am!

[ He hurries over and stomps on the vine below her ankle, halting its pull on her. Next, he tries to pry his hands under the vine wrapped around her, loosening it for her hopeful escape. ]

[ Of course being as inquisitive as he is, Shigeru will definitely investigate. He's more often see wandering alone than near the group of people, which turns out badly for him when that vine wraps around his ankle. He'll let out a startle gasp, or more likely a huff, of air as he turns in fear towards anyone near him. He can't speak...he doesn't know what to do, he's terrifed as he tries to pull the vine off himself with gloved hands but to no avail. Please...help? He might try to wave his arms to get someone's attention though.

He really needs an assist right now. ]

IV

[ Shigeru can always been found sitting by himself or at least away from crowds. He's not one for them all that much but he'll sit himself in the park during the evening to take in the movies playing up around them. He'll have a variety of home cooked japanese finger foods and treats laid out for himself and anyone who might wander on by. He might look anti-social but he'll smile and nod towards anyone sneaking a peak at his snacks. He'll have some separated from his own, just because he doesn't really like people touching his food.

He'll motion towards anyone to take some if they really want and they'll realize that those snacks are...really good. ]

BONUS

[ Well this is just inconvenient for Shigeru because he uses his phone primarily for communicating?! So he's about to type something to the cashier at the local bookstore he's in when the song starts to play. He's so embarrassed right now?! Oh my god what is wrong with his phone. People are...starting to stare and he hates it when people stare at him. He might turn away and try to muffle the music but it's so loud. So he'll just leave the store and at last the song ends but he might just be in a video chat suddenly with someone he doesn't even know. So you can have a disheveled and out of sorts looking Shigeru as he looks back at his phone in a hurry, doing a double take, when he realizes someone else is there.

What is his life?! ]

[ Any sort of motion near the subway is cause enough for alarm. Minato sees him from further inside the subway, Shigeru's movement cutting off the light from the entrance when he raises his arms.

His breathing's a little ragged and he's running with a bit of a limp, but Minato hurries forward with a thin sword trailing behind him— it's a little grimy with water and the fibers of plant matter, but beneath that, the blade glows a cold white-blue. Instead of speaking, he motions with his free hand for Shigeru to settle down, or sit down, or whatever a downward wave of the hand might mean. He just needs the other man to stay still so he doesn't accidentally slice off his leg along with the vine. ]

I: Well I'll Be Domed

This is. New. New, and stupid, and irritating. Lita growls and grumps, taking time to poke at the dome for a bit before just erupting into yelling at the thing. "C'mon, what's the big idea?! I've got to get to IFC before they close! Let! Me! Through!" she shouts, punctuating that last bit with a trio of useless, stompy kicks into the surface of the dome.

The blue glow that follows catches her off-guard, and she stares anxiously at it before she gets jolted for her trouble, knocking her off her feet and back about ten feet with a pained scream, leaving her a crumpled, unconscious heap on the ground.

Oops.

III: A Shot in the Dark

Lita had started taking part in the game, earlier. She's talked big and gloated to a number of people, and she paid for it, now grumpily slumped down on a bench with guns in-hand, but a persistent confetti effect over her head that's lasted roughly ten minutes at this point. Most people that approach her while carrying guns get shot a particularly venomous look, one that seems to say 'yeah, I'm out, fuck off to the left'. She could give up and go home, but. Revenge. Nobody bests Lita Chantler at a game and gets away with it!

That look that says 'fuck off' might be enough to deter some people, but never enough to deter Astin and their seemingly never-ending font of positive energy. It helps that Astin approaches from an entirely different angle so that they don't get the glare. Lita gets a happy, effervescent hug from behind, Astin's big annoying grin right there in her face the whole time.

"Lita! You got hit too!"

Astin beams as they scramble over the bench and plop down next to Lita. True to their word, Astin is also bedecked in a confetti-like array of laser light.

[she's nothing, if not inquisitive. Once it really sunk in that she'd just been... tuning out this strange bubble, she had no choice but to investigate it? To get close, and even rap it with the back of her hand a few times, as if maybe that might break the spell.

Fascinating. It's been here this whole time, and I've only just noticed.

[look, honestly, Makoto was skeptical at first. But then, she wasn't. All she had to do was don a mask, right? And no one would know who she was, and she could play to her heart's content. She's on the green team, and she's ready to rock and roll, mask firmly in place, lest she ruin her studious reputation.]

[... that seemed right, she'd heard it in an American action movie, right?

Anyway, she's aggressively chasing her target. Watch out.]

[now that the laser tag is over, Makoto can remove her mask and happily stare up at the movie. She's looking pretty pleased with herself, hugging her knees to her chest as she watches the Galaxy Fight series.

America is weird.

[were they kidding her? first she finally figured out that this wasn't just some weird, prolonged eclipse, and now she was here in the middle of the next neighborhood over with a green laser pistol in her hand? god. Anna knew heading out today was a mistake, and she sure as hell wasn't going to entertain whoever decided that this was the way today was going to go.]

[after the whole dome thing, though, she didn't really feel like taking any risks on what might happen if she got hit. the thing was that, thanks to the always-crappy holidays, her cigarette intake might have been a little higher than usual, and she hadn't really been able to do a lot of gym stuff lately. so she managed to dodge her way into an alleyway until her lungs decided to protest and practically double her over into a coughing fit, which definitely wouldn't give her position away or anything. super great. this sucked.]

iv. movie night??

[this sucked a little less. like, yeah, sure, she was standing outside idly munching a small bag of popcorn with her head tilted up like a moron. but Anna didn't have any streaming services of her own, and everyone at work had been getting on her ass lately for never having seen a bunch of classic movies. this was probably the best time for them, because everybody was going to be talking about it tomorrow anyway, maybe.]

[she hadn't caught the title of this one, but... okay, look, it's just a really big screen and she really had been caught off guard, and that's why this girl who had been leaned up against a wall and very peacefully watching this movie just jolted hard enough to send popcorn flying out of her bag and directly into her face. hopefully she didn't yelp. like this whole thing wasn't embarrassing enough. immediately afterward, she started looking around, hoping to god nobody had seen her. she should be so lucky; that reaction was way too genuine for this to be anything but her first time seeing a "classic" movie.]

He isn't even carrying his pistol in his hands in hopes that people will take the hint that he doesn't want to play, but that doesn't stop him from having a gun pointed at his face several times every block he walks to get home. He thought he could sneak through the alleyways, but... ahh...

He approaches Anna cautiously, one hand leaving his pocket to touch the bag slung over his chest. ]

I.
[Usopp is not pleased about this whole dome business. He was, at first, scared of it, because who wouldn't be? This was some scifi crap here and for all he knew they were all running out of oxygen with every breath they took.

But after a couple weeks passed and he was sure enough they weren't about to asphyxiate he finally left his room at the bed and breakfast he had been at for only a few days before this dome shit happened. And, in fact, that's part of why he's displeased. He just arrived to the city, having moved away from his mother for the first time ever. And he had promised her he would call her every day, and now he couldn't leave the city let alone call her.

Which is why he's at the edge of the dome now, trying to figure this out. He was a smart cookie, right? He's solved loads of mazes. He could find a way out!

And obviously the way to figure it out is to poke at the dome, find it springy, then slowly push more of your finger, then hand, then hands, then face into it. For science. Not because it's a little cool and fun.]


II.
[Yeah, he was one of the suckers that followed the cute glowing orb out of curiosity only to be met with doom.

Live and learn, don't trust cute things or you'll find yourself dangling from a horrible monster vine far too high up in the air for your own comfort or safety.]

Help!! Help me, anyone, someone!!!

[He screams and basically cries openly as he flails violently, but impotently, in the air.]


III.
[Guns weren't his weapon of choice, as it were. Bow and arrows were more of his target shooting forté. He had dozens of trophies and prize money still in the bank to prove this fact.

But he was still quite good with a gun, and he picks up an orange one out of the barrel with the first look of glee since he was trapped in the city.

He turns around, holding the gun up, already peering down the site with an expert flare, despite the fact it was just a toy.]

Who's going down first!


BONUS.
[He didn't really mean to get so close to the weird, sparking powerlines but he had to pass under some in order to buy some cup of noodles to replenish his stock.

On his way back to the bed and breakfast he pulls out his phone in hopes he could finally call his mother, but as soon as he swipes to unlock it a crazy loud, somewhat familiar song blares out at him. With a shriek he drops the phone as he himself drops to the ground on his ass, hand going to his racing heart.]

What the hell was that about?!!

[He shouts, not noticing that a face of a stranger has appeared on his phone's screen...]

[ Minato still isn't sure whether he'd call the bow and arrows his weapon of choice, but it's the weapon he has on hand at the moment, string drawn back and tip of the arrow trying to follow the part of the vine wrapped around Usopp's arms, except he's moving far too much for Minato to get a good shot in. ]

Can you try holding still...

[ His voice is probably drowned out by Usopp's shouting, but hopefully his intentions are coming across, as impossible as it is for somebody to stop moving midair. A knife would probably work better to cut through the vines, but Usopp is dangling too high up for that, and close combat means Minato's weapons are in danger of getting snatched up by the vines, so... Pray Minato is a good shot. ]

Rise Kujikawa | Persona 4

[Hello! Rise's AU workshop is here! Still open for plotting & etc, but Rise is a 17 year old high school senior who's lived in Recollé for ten years, has studied ballet for just as long, spends a lot of her free time doing volunteer work and a little shy around strangers and more loving with friends.]

I.

[What the hell is this. Rise’s stopped and she’s busy looking at the dome, giving it a skeptical look as she folds her arms over her chest. On the other hand, she was on her way out the door of a popular cafe and now she seems to be blocking the doorway. Maybe you should ask her to move…? She’s a bit too transfixed by this dome’s appearance.]

III.

[She’s beauty, she’s grace, she’s panicking in place. The lasers spot her and she finds herself on the receiving end of one red and one green laser before she takes off running. She grabs a gun out of one of the barrels and races off, glancing over her shoulder and colliding into you before she looks up with a surprised little gasp.]

Sorry! [And then:] Hey, how good’s your aim?

[Think fast. The lasers are now targeting you, too.]

IV.

[So now the dome’s playing movies and she’s pretty much given up on trying to make sense of this. In the end, this seems relatively harmless albeit weird as long as you give the dome some space, and she finds herself walking through the city that night with a purpose.

If you’re a stranger, she’ll shyly approach with what looks like a blanket before offering it to you.]

Here. You looked like you were getting cold.

[But if you’re a friend, she may be less shy about settling into your space loaded down with your favorite movie concessions as she makes herself comfortable. It takes a few moments, but in the end she says:] So it’s not just me, right? This is a little weird. Where do you think it all came from?

Bonus.

[She has plenty of things to be doing today and so naturally she passes by some of the sparking powerlines. She only gives them a passing glance before she ducks into Dancinerate, the dance studio in Tisse. She pauses briefly once she’s inside almost as if it occurs to her that something about this place is different. It’s then she pulls out her phone to check it out and the song begins to play.

She loves this song. It’s not a secret she loves these kind of things, and given she’s alone and in the studio, she begins to dance around and warm up for her ballet practice. Even when the song ends though, the video reveals Rise facing a wall of mirrors as she goes through her stretches and positions. Sorry to anyone who’s suddenly met with a redhaired high school girl jumping around and oblivious to the world.]

<sub>[ All of his life, Yogi had truly believed his gymnastics training would have no real value in the real world. Sure it was a kind of awesome set of skills to have and he could really impress people at parties (the splits were always a hit), but for the most part they were only good for keeping his scholarship and having fun.

Who knew they were really quite so useful in a game of laser-tag? He hadn't even meant to get involved, just minding his own business with his music playing on his way home from a practice session when he'd come across a barrel and been summarily tagged. He wasn't proud to say he had run around more than a little panicked with the lights dancing all over him, but after a moment he spotted other people running around with the same guns from the barrels, and it clicked.

Oh, this was a game! And he loved games.

Which was how he ended up running through the city, back flipping dramatically, or tumbling out of the way - none of which he was sure his coaches would have approved of, but he looked cool doing it! He made his way into the park, choosing to hide behind a tree and catch his breath. Except he hears something. Someone. Now was his moment!

He leapt out from behind the three, leveling his weapon with what he liked to think was a very fierce and heroic sort of pose. ]</sub>

[ This isn't exactly what Danny had in mind when he was sent here. It was supposed to be great, getting a chance to spread his wings, flex the ol' business mucuscles, prove that he's more than just some rich kid. His dad is trusting him, so he sticks it out (he's never been a quitter), but. Come on.

He craves the sunlight. The darkness is wearing him out, and dragging himself out of bed to go into the office is almost as exhausting as the day itself. He's going to need a strong cup of green tea to get him through this one. Luckily, the coffee shop's lights are a Shining Beacon Of Hope, his feet know the way.

He only bumps into two people on the way there. Pretty good, huh? ]

[ Being from New York, Danny should know better. You don't take food from stange, unmanned carts, it's basically like an abduction/poisoning/something bag waiting to happen. But as he glances around, he's not the only one thinking about it, and once other people start to cautiously pick at the snacks and give them a munch, he figures. Well. What the heck?

He's twisting the top off a glass bottle of Sprite when the lights dim and the movie starts up overhead.

Now this? This is more like it.

He can't help but stare in awe, absently taking a swig of his soda while reaching blindly for one of those bags of popcorn. ]

[ The song is catchy. Too catchy, honestly, and as frustrating as it is that he's not listening to his music - it could be worse. ]

How long has that been here? [ A slight pause. ] I thought it was too early for night... and this isn't an eclipse. When that doesn't seem to work, it no longer seems to matter as he finds he is video-chatting with someone. ]

Good evening. [ Offering a small shrug, he continues: ] Though, I cannot say if it is actually evening. The darkness that we've found ourselves in has been upsetting how I perceive time... I actually was intending to check the time. But no matter...

[ Wait, isn't this a ramen shop? Well, the name says it is, but why did he say that he'd make ramen like that isn't actually the main dish?? ]

[Hey what's this live trending video. Should you click on it? If so, you're greeted with an energetic young man.]

HOOOOOOOOOOU welcome friends to the live Michel show! Today, I'm taking my camera out of the busy Mishima household, and to the dome's edge! Let's GO EVERYBODY!

[The camera is perched on a self-stick and he's running outside towards the dome, a grin on his face as he takes the time to speak of a sponsor as gets there, before turning the camera to himself again.]

OOOOKAY! Now that we are here, here's what we're going to do! Fans, this is your true time to shine! Lemme know what you want me to do at the edge of the dome! And this could be dangerous, but I'll do it for you, my friends!

[It didn't seem to bad at first. Creepy a bit, sure, and Michel had played plenty of horror games that should have given him a warning that something wasn't right when the light dies down.

Yet it was when the vines grabbed his feet that his instincts kicked in and he tried to vainly kick it away without success.

Now would be a good time to scream. Yes, he was...really good at that. The most ear piercing scream that echoed quite clearly, and, perhaps, would be known to those who watched his show.]

[Jack was staring at his phone, earbuds in his ears and rollerblades on his feet as he sat at a nearby park bench. The glow was bright on his phone, although probably not as bright as others as he sets the backlight to adjustable for the sake of his eyeballs. His backpack with his shoes and school supplies were right next to him, arm threaded through one of the straps as a safety precaution (he's had it stolen once before from right next to him, never again). He blinked suddenly, a noise of confusion and then he looked up.]

...has that always been there?

[There had been an eclipse earlier, right? But don't those usually last a few seconds? Just how long had it been dark and why didn't he notice it? With the darkness like this, he wasn't going to be able to skate home without possible treading on thin ice or rocks that he can't see. He began digging through his bag for his shoes.]

[Perhaps it was a bad idea to follow those lights. But Jack couldn't help himself! They reminded him of faeries or will o' wisps! He knew it probably wasn't the case, but something had to explain them, right? And something had to explain a sentient vine pulling at his ankle to the point that he'd fallen over and he was being dragged over the concrete somewhere. He tried to grab at anything that could stop him.]

Hey! Can someone here me?! I need help!

[His free foot dug into the ground and he winces as his knee scraped along, his elbows and hands weren't faring any better.]

III

[Jack didn't mind the least bit that he was currently splattered in red splotches for the laser tag. He used that time to run, blue gun in hand, as he weaved through the area and jumped up fences to get to places that might give him a better vantage point. Once the dots disappear, he's back in the game and aiming at someone clearly not on the blue team, crouched on a fence and taking the shot.

It was on the back on his mind, of course, but for now, a movie was playing and he had popcorn and he was bundled up in a blanket. A dome that plays movies couldn't be that bad, right? Right.]
