AUGUST TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé. ...yeah. Yeah, it's just sort of a mess... What will you do today? I. What the hell happened here? Perhaps you're new to the city, or perhaps you've finally started to notice just how bad the damage is to the beloved city of Recollé. The convention center is still crumbled in pieces and several local shops have boarded up windows and doors to prepare for reconstruction. Vendors on the street try to urge residents to purchase monster insurance for all of their home and vehicle needs. But the moment you step outside, you'll find yourself greeted by a member of the Recollé Restoration Committee as they thrust a hardhat into your hands and eagerly chatter about your new assignment. Whether you find yourself in Tisse and assigned to haul pieces of stone around or you're placed over in Apprassage to pour cement, you'll find you aren't alone in these tasks. It's nice to meet your coworkers, isn't it? II. But really, what caused all of this? This is completely insane and while some of you may be willing to help rebuild the city, others might wish to solve the mystery. Poking around the various districts, NPCs will explain that monster attacks "sometimes just happen" which seems pretty strange in and of itself. Monsters shouldn't "just happen", should they? And where are these alleged monsters anyway? Careful what you wish for, though. Exploring too much and straying off-task will lead to finding some things you may not want. These creatures will immediately hone in on new Retrospec users and begin to chase them, though they won't outright attack. While the smaller ones may be destroyed with a bit of effort, it might be wise to either cut your losses or find someone with a bit more experience to take on the larger creatures. Don't worry; there's bound to be someone to help. III. By now, you may have heard the rumors from some of your fellow Retrospec users that several members of the network have disappeared. You may even hear the rumors that those members are lost in "unreality" and that the city itself is a bit...unstable. But they're just rumors, right? Everything seems fine as you go about your day (monsters notwithstanding.) However, any time you pass from one district to another suddenly a list of names scrolls past your line of vision . As the list comes to a halt and lands on one name, you may recognize it as a friend or a stranger. If you're lucky, you may get a holographic video connecting you to someone still in the city. If you're even luckier, you may find someone speaking up inside your head due to a telepathic connection. Go ahead and say hi. You just might get some answers from those who have been lost and those you haven't met yet. IV. As the night begins to set upon the city, a warm sleepy feeling rolls through. Whatever you're doing, it's hard to fight off the urge to curl up under a shaded tree and take a nap. After some time it's nearly impossible to ignore any longer and no matter where you are, you'll instantly fall asleep. Strangely, even The place that you wake up, however, may look very familiar to you. You've seen this place before. In fact, you've lived through this very scene before. Maybe it's the little league game you scored your first home run, or maybe it's your high school prom. These are your memories played back to you, and glancing back you may find that again you aren't alone. Any Retrospec user has the ability to pass through these pockets of time and can stumble right into your memories. The memory pockets can appear no matter where a person is, and they'll be able to view and interact with the memories they see. Take a walk through your childhood neighborhood. Sit through the nightmare of your college entrance exams. These memories are yours as you've lived them. However, try not to change anything about the past. Memories can be quite tricky if meddled with too much. BONUS. While the makers of Retrospec are a bit scattered and busy at the moment, it seems as though they have failsafes to keep their systems up and running. The latest update push operates on its own and begins to download to your device. Your profile remains the same as always (your name and your photo), but it appears you won't have access to it until you apply one of the brand new filters to your picture. Seems easy, right? Maybe you should have given this a second thought. As soon as the filter's applied to your photo, you might find that people are stopping and staring at you as you go about your day. They may or may not comment, but what's evident is that something's going on that you're unaware of. A quick glance in your phone's camera, a storefront window or a mirror will reveal all. That fun filter's now applied itself to your face with no hope of coming off for a while. Have fun! Welcome to the recolle test drive meme! All characters will be begin in-game AU'd as Recollé residents. You may use any of the above prompts for ideas or make up your own depicting your Recollé AU! Prompts do not have to be set in the districts listed above. You can review our list of locations for what's available. Please note that TDM threads can be used as samples, can be kept as game canon, and can also be used for bonus points for future item regains. Share a few minor details of your AU, tag around, and have fun! For continuity's sake, for the first time we will be stating that the TDM is dated IC 8/17! This is all in one day. Potential applicants/characters on the TDM will revert back to NPC status on 8/18 and will not remember the events of the TDM until the mod-posted Retrospec post goes up 9/1. Members of Group 2, since the TDM can be considered game-canon, prompts III and IV are open for you to tag around to new players while stuck in your locations outside of the city! For Prompt III, members of Group 2 may telepathically connect to someone even if there's a video option, but their faces and surroundings will be obscured! Should characters deviate from these "memories" too much, they will find themselves thrown back to the beginning of the memory to start over! [while there are hard hats, and he's wearing one, Franklin isn't much help. In fact, despite rolled up sleeves, he's more interested in taking notes. He's writing stuff down, to send back to hid editor in London. He knew he was supposed to be covering another story, but how did you not take a moment to note monster attacks?

He glances around, and then locks eyes with the closest person]

How long ago did this happen?

[his previous investigation has taken him out around town, scouting for the worst areas of damage. He's not looking for monsters, but he's aware he could find them.

Still, he's faced far more danger in his mind, and he's undeterred that there's a monster's nest ahead. Do you want to try and stop him?]

[he'd heard the rumors of the disappeared people, but he didn't expect to see a list of names out of the corner of his eye, nor did he expect to see a hologram appear once he read a name on the list.

He crouches near it, investigating.

Honestly, he's going to poke at it, not assuming it's real.]

[Gallagher Brando thought himself a reasonably, rational man. He didn't believe in supernatural nonsense, although it was fascinating to him on a certain level. Which is why he found himself in this situation now.

[You can find him there. Wholly serious face, eyes locked with... a spirit rabbit he's holding in his hands. How he is keeping a straight face while doing this is a miracle but anyone who knows Gallagher would, at this point, expect that from him. This is just how her operates.

[And speaking of odd supernatural occurrences... he now has another one. Specifically, Gallagher now has to contend with a mysterious voice spontaneously appearing in his head which is, all and all, marginally less weird than the rabbit but still quite odd. And privacy invading.]

"Ah, hello. This is a bit startling, so apologizes if I sound somewhat awkward."

[ The voice on the other line is unmistakably a child, who sounded alarmed at the beginning, but quickly shifted to try calm himself. Ritsu would have been more guarded and accusatory, but... the voice felt vaguely familiar? Like he's overheard some conversations with this person back when he was in the city. Maybe seen him on TV? But Ritsu's memory of people's names was never his strong point. ]

"How much did you hear?"

[ Ritsu's got a pretty active mind, so there's all sorts of mind clutter trying to be sorted with dangerous auras, creepy monsters, mention of a piano and the lack of lighting. Along with the rest of his group, they were on their way into what seems to be a haunted mansion, so... ]

[Luna had been following the trail of destruction and volunteers, mostly out of curiosity, after she'd escaped from the man trying to get her to actually help fix things. Ugh. But she stopped when she heard Ellie speak, looking over at the older girl with a mischievous grin.]

'Course, if there are any monsters. For real. They'd probably be hiding right? We'd have to go find them.

[ kyouko has lived in recollé for about five years now, and she's used to the place - except today seems...strange. she doesn't recall being very worried about the wreckage earlier in the month, or about how it was caused, but now...

now, kyouko kirigiri can be found standing outside the convention center on her lunch break, coffee in hand. she isn't actually eating anything, just drinking coffee, apparently.

her gaze is very focused and she seems to be...thoughtful about everything. ]

[ high school prom, you say? why not. at least kyouko didn't go in for a sparkly gown of any sort, but something understated and black, her hair swept up in an elegant twist.

even in the real memory she'd probably been more content to watch than interact, and now she stands casually off to the side and tracks her former self across the gymnasium floor.

What happened to everything? [ If he wasn't around so many people, he might have dropped a few colorful words to show just how confused he is about this whole situation. His confusion only deepens when he's given some vendors that are talking about monster repellant. Monster repellant! In the eight years that he's live in this city, this has to be the craziest thing that has ever happened. Mass hysteria? Just what is going on?

Carlos only stops his wandering when someone is shoving a hardhat into his hands. He blinks and stares dumbly as some long-winded but overall excited explanation is being spewed out about his new assignment. His hand is up to correct them that he's a firefighter and doesn't really want to change his occupation -- but he's somehow found himself dragged along to an area in need of serious reconstruction. ]

... the day just keeps getting crazier and crazier. [ But the hardhat is on his head and he decides that he can't just leave things like this. His station would have offered to lend a hand anyway, now that he thinks about it. And that must have been what that member of the Recollé Restoration Committee was getting at. ]

Um, hi. I guess we're in this together, huh?

[ This isn't like how the device is supposed to work. Not how he remembers it -- seeing it scroll down so many names and highlight at random. Carlos lightly taps the side of his head as he wonders if perhaps that would "fix" the problem. It doesn't. Instead, a video is played and he breathes out a small sigh before trying to look a little less confused and frustrated. ]

I don't know why it grabbed you... sorry. This whole thing's insane... I have no idea what's going on. [ His eyes close for a brief second before opening them and giving a reassuring smile. ] But it's going to be all right. We're all in this together, right? This is the city we're going to be living in, that we live in, so it's going to be okay.

[Gallagher's face is completely stoic, but even so, he's not going to deny it. This entire monster situation puts him on edge. Normally, he'd consider it completely insane... were it not for the fact that it was definitely occurring, and definitely real. And if there was at least one trait about him, it was that he was quick at adapting and accepting new circumstances. Even if said circumstances were, say, monster attacks.]

[The fuck is this? What the fuck is this? He was just exiting the Recollé University Housing Department building when a Ball Monokuma rolls right across his path and begins to follow him. Glancing down at the ball, he begins to run across campus with the ball in hot pursuit, picking up old wrappers from energy bars and empty coffee cups to throw at the back of John's head. It's when he feels the vague slime of someone's old yogurt hit the back of his head that he finally turns.]

Hey! [And without warning he darts forward, bringing his leg back and…kicking…the Ball Monokuma in the face to send it sailing through the air. Does it land in your path? Are you concerned about the goop in his hair? It's a mystery.]

III.

[Walking from Apprassage back to Tisse shouldn't take long, but being new to the city and still not quite sure where he's going has some impact on John Egbert being lost. The moment he crosses the boundary line between the two districts though his vision whites out and a whole string of unfamiliar names roulette in front of him. Hearing the sound of someone else on the other end of the connection, he does the most intelligent thing possible.]

What? Sorry, I missed that.

IV.

[What a tiring day. Between fighting with the housing office in a losing battle and also just generally running around in the sun, John finds himself in Hollingberry Field seated on a bench with his head tipped back and his eyes closing…

…granted, not long after that, he finds himself back home in a different park. Walking along the baselines of the baseball diamond, he finds himself saying goodbye to the last of his teammates who were practicing and winds up alone. Picking up a baseball, he tosses it into the air repeatedly with a glove he doesn't remember having, walking further down the field before turning as soon as he spots someone new from the corner of his eye.]

It's going to rain in about five minutes. Just so you know.

[ The hardhat is one thing - it's not the greatest look on her, but she's not going to argue with safety officers - but being assigned to help pour concrete is too much. She's a teenage girl dressed in a cute, frilly shirt and a short skirt, clothes she's not willing to get dirty; she is 100% not dressed for construction work.

This wasn't the type of part-time job she'd been planning on getting. Especially without any promise of pay. ]

[ Conscripted labor, at the least. So for now, she's crossing her arms, refusing to get involved. Good luck for anyone trying to convince her otherwise... but she's more than happy for anyone to join her in her mini-rebellion. ]

[ It's starting to dawn on Kotone that Recollé is really, really weird now. The sudden destruction was one thing, but the monsters were another, and now, a list of names suddenly scrolling in her vision? Either she's in serious need of some psychiatric help, or her world's turning upside-down.

...And then she hears a faint voice in her head, and freaks out. ]

Wh, what the fuck was that? [ A pause. Wait, assuming those names are related somehow... ] Uh, I mean... who are you?

Helping out is important, though, so despite her surprise at being a drafted volunteer, she doesn't mind at all. Although that is a very, very large piece of concrete that's jutting out of the ground that she's pushing with all her might on. ]

[ She kind of wishes she had the jackhammer right now. That thing could do some damage. Yes, if she were setting up another D&D campaign, Orihime would definitely make a jackhammer an available weapon even if it needed a source of electricity--or maybe it's a magic jackhammer! The chord is just for aesthetics and authenticity! It would certainly come in handy if she could use it on the thing that's chasing her!

Yeah, that sure is a weird flying thing. ]

[ it takes him a moment to register where he is, although the recognition comes quickly. it's easy to recognise a place where you've been at multiple times before, right down to the chess board set up and the opponent in front of him.

he's just moved the king on the chessboard. ]

What's this? The King?

[ lelouch grins. he remembers this conversation as well, remembers how he'd managed to catch his opponent off guard because of the sheer audacity of that move. but then again, lelouch has always taken refuge in audacity. ]

Of course. If the king doesn't move, then his subjects won't follow.

[ it's almost satisfying to see the way the man recoils, just as he says it. lelouch smirks, and catches sight of someone standing in the corner of the room - someone he doesn't quite recognise. he only remembers there being two people the last time this happened, so he calls out. ]

[Normally, Gallagher would be all in favor of obeying the law. He was a judge, the law was sort of his thing. But Gallagher's physical fitness level on its own was... lackluster to say the least. So as he sees Lelouch trying to escape, he breathes a sigh of relief. And this entire Restoration Committee situation was legally sketchy anyways so... he had no qualms with leaving.]

[Luna huffed and crossed her arms, staring up at the constantly-smiling man who was trying to hand her a hard hat and a basket full of what looked like sandwiches.]

I told you, I'm not helping anyone with anything, I don't care how broken the city is! You can't force me to do it, I don't even think I'm even allowed to do it, and even if I were I'm not going to waste a whole day handing gullible volunteers your...

[She leaned up a bit to peer into the basket, and wrinkled her nose.]

...Ham sandwiches?

[And she dropped back onto her heels.]

Yeah. Definitely not being your ham delivery girl.

[He did not seem like he'd be taking no for an answer, though. Someone come rescue her before she kicks him in the shins or something?]

II - Wait. Floating mouths. Seriously?

[Luna's curious explorations as to the 'monsters' everyone was talking about had led her around the wrong corner, it seemed, and now she came running right back out of it, being chased by two creepy floating, giggling mouth things.]

[She was clearly pretty fast, ducking between people as if this wasn't her first time bolting away from someone who didn't want her to leave, but the monsters were definitely gaining on her. Help?]

IV - Some things are better left forgotten.

[Luna wasn't a stranger to napping, really. She was pretty good at finding an out of the way corner to curl up when she should've been in class or dealing with her foster parents or really anywhere. But it typically didn't come on quite this fast, and she barely had time to sit down on a bench before she was out...]

[And waking up curled up on the grass outside of a small, slightly run-down single family home in the suburbs of Recollé. It's late afternoon, the sun just starting to disappear behind the trees, and a woman is standing in the driveway next to an idling dark green sedan.]

[Luna stood up slowly, staring at the scene, her fingers curling into tiny fists. She remembered this...but...]

[The front door to the house suddenly bursts open, and another Luna, perhaps two years younger, comes storming out, dragging a black trashbag along behind her.]

Fine. Whatever. GOODBYE!

[The younger Luna shouted, and the older Luna winced at each word. Damn it...]

[Elliot was new in town. He was supposed to be starting college, but came a bit early to get everything moved in, and maybe spend time with his brother before his class started. He'd never been to Recolle before, but everything from what his brother described he expected well....

He's staring around in confusion and horror at all the rubble. He hadn't heard anything about this-- surely this would've been on the news if a disaster happened right? Surely his own brother would've mentioned something about a disaster hitting--

He squeaks in fear when he hears what some street vendor is selling]

W-Wait! Did you say- Monster insurance?! As in-

[But before he can get any of his questions answered, someone calls out to him and shoves a hard hat into his hands, eagerly chatting about how they need him to help clear out rubble and it's great he could make it today-]

W-WHAT?! H-hold on, there must be some mistake---

[Help a kid out? Because from his small size and stature? There's no way he's here to help lift heavy rubble. ]

[II. Yep. Monsters.]

[Eventually, by some luck, Elliot's able to get away from the forced construction work. Talk about exhausting work, he felt completely worn out, and he didn't do nearly half as much as some of the other people did.

Determined not to get roped into more work, he's decided to try to make his way to the campus. Technically it wasn't move in date yet, but it seemed to be the best place to--

Except any thoughts are completely cut off when he turns a corner to find a monster blocking his path]

[He stumbles back, completely scared. He's not at all a fighter, and all he's got on him is a suitcase. It might be good to have someone help out.

[But some miracle, Elliot has survived making it to the campus. He had heard the rumors about missing people, but....honestly, between the sudden construction work, the monsters, the rubble-- there was way too many things to keep track of his first day in--

-- oh no. And now he was seeing a list appear in the side of his vision. He doesn't recognize most of the names scrolling past. But that's a moot point when a holographic video pops up in front of him, with another person on the side of it.

This is weird. But Elliot was a polite person, and it'd be rude to not say hello even if he's starting to wonder if he just fell asleep on the bus and was dreaming this whole day.]

[Yesterday he'd just accepted that business had been picking up. Today he realizes how weird that is. Weirder still because he runs a damn airsoft and paintball shop. Sure there are monsters around but people seem to actually think his supplies are going to help them.

Alright maybe it's less weird and more just irritating.

So he's started telling his employees to turn people away unless they're buying for games. He's even got a handy sign ready to go:]

[Where once Haru may have brushed off the damage as just something that happens, now Haru is really seeing what's happening here. Where once rode down the street with her moped without a care, now she drives it slowly with a hard hat sitting at her feet, staring at the wreckage as she heads toward her assigned area.

Once she's there, she's busy hauling some of the lighter pieces of wreckage to a vehicle much larger than her little moped. She's carried heavy bags of dirt before, so this is nothing to her. Still, after a while, she lets out a sigh as she wipes at her forehead, then looks to the person closest to her while adjusting her hard hat. She loves hats, but not this one.]

Why does this seem strange only now?


II.

[Tragedy! Haru's cute little moped has fallen onto its side, though thankfully not wrecked, as she herself stands by it, white-knuckled grip on the only thing that she could grab as a weapon: the broom she was given to clean up the shop she was heading to. There are five monsters surrounding her, and though they don't attack, they still loom at her aggressively while she swings the broom as if it were a baseball bat.]

[They're rather large, and Haru's never even been in a fight with a person in her life, let alone a monster. She could use some help!!]

[This is... new. Then again, just about this entire day has been new to her, but this is new in an entirely different way. First a list of names, and now there's a hologram in front of her?

[That... that sure is a giant elephant she sees parading down the street on her way to work in the Tisse district, trunk twisted in the sky while it toots out a battle cry. As she stares wide-eyed and dumbfounded, Sakura considers the social faux pas of calling out on her fifth day of work, if this would be considered a state of emergency or if her employer would tell her to get her lazy Japanese ass over to the shop--

She turns, mystified, a question stumbling out of her mouth and at the first random person she sees:]

[But regardless of the answer she gets, Sakura's attention gives a subtle shift behind you, stranger, at a ghostly figure streaking through the air with its tongue hanging out like a dog's. Pay no mind to the the girl immediately gasping and reaching for her phone camera, smiling like she just saw a puppy wagging its tail. THIS CANNOT GO WRONG AT ALL. ]

[Okay, okay, don't lose your head, Sakura. Getting distracted by adorable but potentially life-threatening monsters is a valid reason to be late for work, but seeing a scollbar of names and then hearing voices is grounds for getting checked into the hospital.

More than that, when Sakura speaks up, he looks around, behind him, up- anything to find the source of the noise. While Sakura can see him, he can't see her at all, and holds his head a little, as if that will solve the mysteries of the universe or somehow make things make sense.]

[ "Monsters just happen," has to be the worst explanation in the history of explanations. Though considering Karen's day so far, she can't even say that it's really the worst she's heard. Despite the shaky assurances of her fellow hostesses at Club Flowers, Karen immediately takes it upon herself to take charge of this situation. First, she herds the girls inside, secures the windows, sets her shivering manager to guard the back room, then stands resolutely in front of the front door, armed with nothing more than a fire extinguisher.

This should go well.

It goes so well, in fact, that the nearest Sand Bat swooping in to pay its respects gets HOSED IN THE FACE. The expression on her face is momentarily exhilarated, then immediately turns grim when the Sand Bat wheels back around. This is ridiculous??

Still, she presses down on the trigger again when the Sand Bat comes closer. Unfortunately, Karen's aim is far off (it's a miracle she managed to hit it in the first place honestly) and will probably end up hosing some poor individual passing by. whoopsie. ]

[ Karen's not one to linger long on the utter weirdness of this situation. Well, she is, but she disregards that in favor of immediately speaking up as soon as either holographic video or telepathic thought crosses her mind. ]

But when she turns her head in your direction, just a blink and all of that vulnerability is gone, dark eyes narrowing. Twirling an arrow between her fingers, she raises her bow and aims.]

III. PEOPLE FROM THE MOON?

...how strange! [Hikari raises a hand and waves it through the hologram before she physically walks in a circle, marveling at how the hologram seems to follow her.] It's just like in the movies. Is this alien technology? Am I going to get taken away by a UFO?

[She peers forward more, trying to peek at whoever might be on the other side of the connection.]

Hello? Is anyone there? I don't bite, I promise! Unless you try to take me away, in which case I'll have to bite a little so I can escape!

IV. RESET THE SADNESS

[Hikari is an easygoing woman, so while yes, she's rather concerned that the aliens might have kidnapped her after all, right here she feels relatively safe, so she's going to take a moment to enjoy some of her memories.

If you stumble across hers, you'll see mostly happy ones. Her childhood in Japan, marrying her now ex-husband, the day Tamamo was born. Right now she's watching a scene of herself and a young boy (who looks nothing like her) in an enormous kitchen, chatting happily as they scatter flour and sugar everywhere in an attempt to make cookies.]

Ah, the first day Morgan smiled...it was one of the most beautiful smiles I've ever seen.

You must be joking. Do I look like a source of cheap menial labor to you? [He doesn't want to sully his hands with work like this. Especially when it's forced upon him!]

[He only ends up accepting the assignment only his own terms - as a leadership exercise. Byakuya may be wearing a hardhat, but he's not doing any physical labor. Instead, he walks back and force as he checks up some of on the workers lifting pieces of stone in Tisse. He wants to make sure that this group is working like a properly functioning machine!]

As the leader of this site, I expect nothing less than your absolute best in this task. Am I clear? [If his group can clear the rubble more quickly than other groups, than it could prove to be quite the achievement!]

[Enough of that. Byakuya eventually ends up wandering the streets, seized by a sense of curiosity after all of these unusual things he's heard. Trying to reconcile his recent memories with his current logic about the state of affairs in the city is almost dizzying.

But there's no time to be lost in thought as he soon finds himself being approached by... something. Is it some kind of a deranged mascot? Byakuya just stares at it while it waddles towards him, and he looks utterly bewildered.]

What is the meaning of this?!

[Eventually Byakuya makes it back to his job at McDonalds, where he works as a shift leader. And he's just tinkered with this weird Retrospec app. He has no idea what it's about, but he figured he would do what it asked of him just to get the notifications to shut up for now, and he'll worry about deleting the app later. Right now, there's more important matters to take care of: his job.

Trying to be an ideal shift leader, he'll go around to talk to employees and customers alike. What puzzles him is that he seems to be getting a lot of strange looks... Well, maybe it's because his face currently sports this image.]

Or in truth, a Ditto (it kept the goofy beady eyed face, whoops). While attempting to chase down this boy , some rubble fell on it, landing on its foot and pinning it down. It transforms back to its adorable purple jello self... its blobby foot is still stuck, with its intended victim smiling at it. ]

[ At worst, Yanagi is scuffed up with his shirt torn in spots and a bruise or two. He's winded because he was never athletic, but after being messed with by sentient silly putty... he's actually tiredly amused, pulling at it and poking it. ]

[ He'll free it from capture in time... he's not that heartless. Of course, there's probably still danger lurking about. Neither of them should should hang around where they are, if one is so kind to remind them. ]

[ Unreality? Unstability? That's honestly hard to wrap a brain around. Also, the weirdest thing to hear about when you've just recently arrived. But, he sees that list with half-hearted curiosity, are they actually people? until a certain name, one he knows and there's a feeling of fear to see like that when he doesn't know what this list is for. Both of his older sisters had their reasons for leaving home, there's some concern.

He doesn't have control over where the scrolling stops, though he did try and felt silly. Then that hologram video pops up, and... well, the first time, it was a little awkward. But over time, it keeps happening and frankly small talk is boring! ]

This time, rather than that crap, he's going to amuse himself and whoever is on the other. [ Selfies aren't really his thing, but this weird app asked for it. It also required him to put a filter on, and he'll just take the first one available in his haste, and perhaps undoing. He's definitely getting stares, and some... odd comments. Among them, he wanted a soda from a fast-food joint and the flustered cashier sounded rather shocked when Yanagi opened his mouth just to say "thank you". Huh. ]

...Oh, for fuck's sake.

[ At least it's hard to miss it when he's walking by a glass window. Flower crown, a few sparkles, and some fluttering petals from that crown. He looks shoujo as heck, even with his deadpan expression. He takes a moment in front of that reflection to try and shred the flower crown to pieces... only for a new one to bloom in its place.

At some point he's just being picky about the flowers and tearing out the ones he doesn't like. No pink flowers, roses, stupidly big blooms, or any combo of the three. Except now he's got a pile of petals from those all around him from this. What a pretty pink mess. ]

It's the soccer field in Hollingberry Fields, a group of middle school children running back and forth while a coach runs them through different drills. One of the kids is easily identifiable as Keith, right down to the scowl as he kicks one of the soccer balls too hard — and ends up hitting the coach smackdab in the face with it.

Meanwhile, the current version of Keith watches from the other side of the field, arms crossed.]

[He's not the most impressed. But then, he's pretty sure nobody is. And well. The sooner they help with cleaning up or figuring more out, the sooner things are set right or whatever, isn't it? So Yuu, albeit with some reluctance and bitching, because of course he is, he's a teenage boy who just usually wants to sleep in where possible, helps out with trying to find out more about the supposed 'monsters'. It isn't like he has amazing strength, considering how skinny he appears, but he has more muscle than one might expect hidden under his shirt. Not that he knows anything whatsoever about these monsters or has any real sort of fighting experience beyond scraps he gets into in school and hanging around military staff and hearing their stories. Attempting some training to get himself fit if he chooses to join himself later.]

I guess it beats glaring at any maths books.

[Or whatever supposed school work or preparation there might be given the new school year. Only of course it would be optimistic to assume he wouldn't end up over his head upon encountering one of said monsters. A vampyr, specifically. Which seems more amused than anything as Yuichiro tries to reach it to smack it, to then get a better look at this thing. As if it is taunting him, teasing him in flying lower before ducking back up again out of his reach.

Yeah. He's frustrated.]

[Sort of? He's not sure. And of course, just as he frowns and tilts his head as he looks at the thing, it swoops back down, taking advantage of the presented skin of the teen's neck to try bite him.]

IV:

[Yuu's memories don't all take place in this particular city. He'd moved here later, from Japan. There's the house fire - the reason he was adopted out and housed in an orphanage in the interim of four years before his foster father found him. His appearing to take on the role of protector and caretaker of sorts as the eldest child there, helping their staff at the orphanage with chores or reminding the kids to play nice and look nice today because the adults were coming and might take one of them home.

He just didn't expect that brushing his foster father off to try get him to take one of the younger kids, or just trying to ignore him, actually got the guy's attention and so Yuu was the one chosen. His new foster father ignoring his protests and surprise, taking advantage of the boy's tinier size to physically carry him to the car if necessary (it was).

Then, with his father's work, moving around so much to different military bases and towns nearby depending on where he was stationed at that particular time before finally ending up here.]

[Did he forget to wipe something off of his face? Yuu frowns, a small pout at his features as he pauses to pull out his phone. Only to find that update thing he had barely even glanced at with that new app had actually.....happened.....to him? He blinks, glaring at his phone before running a hand down his face. [ What was this that he walked into? Having already putting some pieces of the puzzle together (and no luck in solving it), Eren finds himself in a pocket of imagery and memory after dozing off. Momentarily stunned and confused, he walks through the vision of the military bases, his interest piqued and attention fixated around the uniforms and vehicles. It made his chest stir with a very deep, inexplicable calling, attracted him like a bee to a flower— he can't help but to hover around and go deeper. ]

Hey— [ He stops a person passing by, and asks: ] Is this Fort McCoy? [ What else would make sense? He was feeling a little sleepy earlier— wait, how did he get here?

Well . . . That doesn't really matter, neither does it need to make sense in a dream. Thus, Eren brushes it off (it was a dream, right?). ]

[Tamamo has no, no idea at all what to do about this. Why didn't she find this weird until now? Why wasn't she concerned at all until now? These are monsters, for fuck's sake. What can she do to help with this?

She's an idol, she's not suited towards heavy lifting and such. There's only one thing she can do, really. So, at various points all over the city, wherever there's construction work nearby, she's going to do all she can think of: Set up some speakers, and start singing and dancing. Encouragement helps, right? Her managers are gonna be mad, later, but a bunch of impromptu guerrilla lives will be just what the city needs to get back on its feet!

If you happen to be nearby while she's singing and you look like you know her music, she might pull you up to sing and dance with her. If not, once her performance ends, she'll be sticking around long enough to socialize and meet people before hurrying off to the next place. Come meet her!]

[When Tamamo wakes up, backstage is not where she expected to be. She has to take a moment to reorient herself, but... It's pretty obvious. The posters for "TAMAMO♥ DEBUT LIVE" make it pretty clear this is her memories. Either that, or she just hallucinated a couple of years. Probably the memory, though.

She's looking up at the monitors that show the crowd, all of them cheering, many waving glowsticks.]

Well, if it's only a dream, I shouldn't have as much anxiety this time, right? Hm, maybe I can just skip out... Two first times feels a bit like cheating!

[around five thirty am, Nikkari is awake and moving. he'd woken up an hour earlier completely refreshed, unable to fall back asleep. so there'd really been only one solution - and that was to travel out. this early, no one's come to bother him, and the streets of Recolle have always been safe.

the city is wrecked, and it strikes him ill at ease - why hadn't he seen just how bad this has gotten? - but it's not enough to stop him from finding one of those wrecked buildings, using the deserted nature as an excuse to climb up to the top through a use of the fire escape and a few broken pieces of the building next to it.

the sunrise that comes a while later is nice, but it would be nicer if there wasn't that person at the bottom of the building calling up to him, trying to tell him to come down so that he can work for the committee. something about structural instability and everyone doing their part, and he shakes his head.]

I didn't sign up for any of this, though! Isn't this supposed to be a volunteer led effort?

[when he sleeps, he dreams - and when he dreams, he remembers where he was. the streets of Recolle, repaired and complete, and him poking around corners to try to find what was hidden. the airport, filled with bustling people and him with his carryon bag slung over his arm as he has to get through security, the familiar quiet corners of his old house the morning of his twentieth birthday. Nikkari dreams, and it carries him off to well trodden paths he wonders why surprised to walk down.

but, there are others who wander into the world inside his head, and they are more surprising than the repetition. to see them there, he pauses, looks, asks for an explanation with nothing more than an expression - and then he'll smile anyway.]

Japan. A shrine. One of the shrines that he traveled to at random to visit with Okuni for their new year's blessings. There's a memory in the back of his own mind, of a young boy that he saw from a distance and see again years later. He's seen this shrine before, in his mind's eye when Nikkari told him about it, confirming Baren's suspicions even if he never himself mentioned that they nearly crossed paths years ago.

It didn't seem relevant then.

He's not sure if it's relevant now.

Still, he sees Nikkari's smile and matches it with one of his own, as if it can cover up the exhaustion that weighs down his shoulders or remove the ache from his bones. He greets in a sing-song and with a skip in his step.]

[Derek is walking to the corner market near his apartment in Tisse. Usually he meets his girlfriend for dinner, but she is working late, so convenience store turkey sandwich for dinner it is. As he walks, he mentally plans the date night he is going to have with her later this weekend. So far, he has decided to take her back to where they had their first date. And then... he reaches into his trouser pocket and fingers the small velvet box that has been in his possession for the past two months. He mentally kicks himself, once again, for taking so long to ask her. His roommate's constant badgering wasn't helping his confidence either. So what if he wanted to get the timing right and make it as romantic as possible. It is what she deserved! Mentally scolding himself for over stressing about this, he decides to also buy a large bag of nacho flavored Doritos in an attempt to console himself.

As he turns the corner, he sees a large, grey, hulking...THING??]

What the HELL???

[His sudden exclamation alerts the monster to his presence. It turns, facing him, and start to charge. Derek quickly reaches for his side arm, only to realize he had left it in his apartment.]

[Stepping out of the precinct at the end of his shift, Derek receives a text from his girlfriend that she is going to be working late and can't meet up for dinner. After replying that he will just get a sandwich from the nearby coffee shop, he pockets his phone and walks in the direction of the shop. Entering, he orders his usual: turkey and ham sandwich, chocolate brownie, and a large English breakfast tea. Leaving the shop, he takes a sip of his tea, then heads to the bus stop. As he walks,he crosses the border between tribunal terrace and Tisse and he sees a list of names scroll by in his line of vision. For the most part, he doesn't recognize any of the names, and it is a bit of a shock when it suddenly stops on one.]

[It's a good thing he ends up running by the area some construction is taking part in, because Frankie had just confiscated a goddamned jackhammer someone on the crew thought it smart to hand over to a child. She's really getting sick of this.

...but she's distracted from her frustration once she hears Derek scream. She sees him first, then the thing chasing him, and with little recourse ends up moving in with the jackhammer in her hands and hurls it right at the monster in pursuit. It sends it flying and straight into a nearby shop window. It seems incapacitated.

Although when she approaches him afterwards, she is rubbing at her shoulder. The thing was heavy and while she is strong, she's not some kind of weightlifter.]
