AUGUST TDM
|
AUGUST TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé. ...yeah. Yeah, it's just sort of a mess... What will you do today? I. What the hell happened here? Perhaps you're new to the city, or perhaps you've finally started to notice just how bad the damage is to the beloved city of Recollé. The convention center is still crumbled in pieces and several local shops have boarded up windows and doors to prepare for reconstruction. Vendors on the street try to urge residents to purchase monster insurance for all of their home and vehicle needs. But the moment you step outside, you'll find yourself greeted by a member of the Recollé Restoration Committee as they thrust a hardhat into your hands and eagerly chatter about your new assignment. Whether you find yourself in Tisse and assigned to haul pieces of stone around or you're placed over in Apprassage to pour cement, you'll find you aren't alone in these tasks. It's nice to meet your coworkers, isn't it? II. But really, what caused all of this? This is completely insane and while some of you may be willing to help rebuild the city, others might wish to solve the mystery. Poking around the various districts, NPCs will explain that monster attacks "sometimes just happen" which seems pretty strange in and of itself. Monsters shouldn't "just happen", should they? And where are these alleged monsters anyway? Careful what you wish for, though. Exploring too much and straying off-task will lead to finding some things you may not want. These creatures will immediately hone in on new Retrospec users and begin to chase them, though they won't outright attack. While the smaller ones may be destroyed with a bit of effort, it might be wise to either cut your losses or find someone with a bit more experience to take on the larger creatures. Don't worry; there's bound to be someone to help. III. By now, you may have heard the rumors from some of your fellow Retrospec users that several members of the network have disappeared. You may even hear the rumors that those members are lost in "unreality" and that the city itself is a bit...unstable. But they're just rumors, right? Everything seems fine as you go about your day (monsters notwithstanding.) However, any time you pass from one district to another suddenly a list of names scrolls past your line of vision . As the list comes to a halt and lands on one name, you may recognize it as a friend or a stranger. If you're lucky, you may get a holographic video connecting you to someone still in the city. If you're even luckier, you may find someone speaking up inside your head due to a telepathic connection. Go ahead and say hi. You just might get some answers from those who have been lost and those you haven't met yet. IV. As the night begins to set upon the city, a warm sleepy feeling rolls through. Whatever you're doing, it's hard to fight off the urge to curl up under a shaded tree and take a nap. After some time it's nearly impossible to ignore any longer and no matter where you are, you'll instantly fall asleep. Strangely, even The place that you wake up, however, may look very familiar to you. You've seen this place before. In fact, you've lived through this very scene before. Maybe it's the little league game you scored your first home run, or maybe it's your high school prom. These are your memories played back to you, and glancing back you may find that again you aren't alone. Any Retrospec user has the ability to pass through these pockets of time and can stumble right into your memories. The memory pockets can appear no matter where a person is, and they'll be able to view and interact with the memories they see. Take a walk through your childhood neighborhood. Sit through the nightmare of your college entrance exams. These memories are yours as you've lived them. However, try not to change anything about the past. Memories can be quite tricky if meddled with too much. BONUS. While the makers of Retrospec are a bit scattered and busy at the moment, it seems as though they have failsafes to keep their systems up and running. The latest update push operates on its own and begins to download to your device. Your profile remains the same as always (your name and your photo), but it appears you won't have access to it until you apply one of the brand new filters to your picture. Seems easy, right? Maybe you should have given this a second thought. As soon as the filter's applied to your photo, you might find that people are stopping and staring at you as you go about your day. They may or may not comment, but what's evident is that something's going on that you're unaware of. A quick glance in your phone's camera, a storefront window or a mirror will reveal all. That fun filter's now applied itself to your face with no hope of coming off for a while. Have fun! Welcome to the For continuity's sake, for the first time we will be stating that the TDM is dated IC 8/17! This is all in one day. Potential applicants/characters on the TDM will revert back to NPC status on 8/18 and will not remember the events of the TDM until the mod-posted Retrospec post goes up 9/1. Members of Group 2, since the TDM can be considered game-canon, prompts III and IV are open for you to tag around to new players while stuck in your locations outside of the city! For Prompt III, members of Group 2 may telepathically connect to someone even if there's a video option, but their faces and surroundings will be obscured! Other members of the game + potential applicants may use video if they wish. For Prompt IV, please remember these are memories from your AU and not your canon! Should characters deviate from these "memories" too much, they will find themselves thrown back to the beginning of the memory to start over! And finally, the filters provided in the bonus are just examples and you can swap in any others you want. Your August TDM directory is here, and your AU workshop is here! Our mod questions thread for this TDM is over here! |

...Do monsters have allergies? Forget it, doesn't matter.
[ Thank goodness she is as fit as she is. Fighting the monster may be out of the question, but running from it isn't going to be too easy, either. ]
You know fantasy stuff. Don't monsters usually kidnap beautiful women and...I don't know, marry them? Eat them? Marry them and then eat them?

Orihime isn't unfit by any means, but she's not an athlete. Fear is a good motivator, though. ]
In some stories they do...
[ Gasp! ]
I think he's after you, Soliel!
no subject
What? I'm tough. You're sweet and squishy. I know who I'd be after if I were a monster.
[ Is she talking about eating or marriage??
Soleil needs to focus less on weight lifting and more on cardio if running away from monsters is going to be a thing from now on. That thought tempts her to toss Orihime over her shoulder like a sack of sweet potatoes, but that will be too impractical unless princess here can't go on much further on her own feet. Hopefully Orihime can manage to run at top speed for just a while longer. There must be some place here they can duck into for safety. ]

I don't want to be a donut!
[ Apropos of seemingly nothing to someone who wouldn't know her.
Orihime will keep running as fast as she can--she doesn't want to be a drag and make this dangerous for Soliel, after all. It's...good exercise? Though as they'er running, Orihime gasps and points head of them. ]
Look!
[ The normally open street is totally blocked off due to fallen rubble aka a building that didn't make it through the monster attacks. What do they do!? ]

[ They can discuss Orihime's spirit pastry later. It is taking all her willpower to keep up her optimism. This is a bad situation, but she needs to keep up her optimism for Orihime's sake. And in a roundabout way, for her own sake. If she were alone, she probably wouldn't have been able to move at all, but she has to find some solution to this for Orihime. ]
Damn it.
[ Soleil looks over her shoulder to see Orihime and hope the thing decided to--nope, there it is. There is no way they can climb over this rubble and fighting is completely out of the question. To their left she sees a a damaged but standing store front. She pulls Orihime along once again and into the store, slamming the door behind them. Getting cornered in a building with this thing would be bad, but it is big enough that it may give up trying to fit through the doorway.
She pulls Orihime to the furthest end of the store. It is a typical convenience store, so unless this monster is allergic to slushies and overcooked wienies, all they can do is hope it gives up for easier prey. At the very least, this will net them a few minutes to catch their breath. ]
Orihime...you okay?
no subject
It sure is convenient!
Taking a moment to learn how to breathe again, she nods with a grateful smile. ]
Yes! Thanks to you. Thank you. Are okay?
[ Looking around, the store proper seems like it's in okay condition. The aisles are still packed, though it looks like the hot food bar has long since lost power. Coagulating nacho cheese? Less than appealing.
Then--bam! The monster slams into the door. But it doesn't budge, thankfully. ]
Do you think there's something in here we can use to ward it off??
no subject
Unless this place sells monster repellent, I'm going to say no. It's not going to leave us be until it finds something else to gobble up, which...
[ Soleil looks from her left to her right. They are surrounded by food. Junk food, but food nonetheless. It seems to be too dumb to be the marrying type of monster, so she is hoping this is only about its lunch.
She grabs a packet of donuts and wiggles it in front of Orihime's face. ]
He may have his heart set on a fresh Orihime-doughnut, but you think he'll go for something else?
[ If monsters follow animal logic, it should be distracted by a big pile of food that won't run or fight back... ]
no subject
Oh! Yes! If it's just hungry, maybe it'll go away. Or maybe it's allergic to high-fructose corn syrup and will go into diabetic shock!
[ That got dark. ]
Let's give it everything we can find!
[ As she starts to pick up a few bags of candy, though, she slows. ]
Oh, but...I don't think we can afford to pay for all of this...
no subject
Even now you're as considerate as ever, but this isn't the time to be worrying about things like that.
[ She loves how pure Orihime is, but that sort of attitude is only going to get her hurt in this situation. Soleil is glad she got involved in this. She can't imagine Orihime dealing with this on her own... ]
Besides, if you get gobbled up, then...well, think of just how many pastries and snacks will go uneaten. So, these ones are going to need to sacrifice themselves so that we can live and keep eating treats.
[ Not that it matters, as Soleil is already tearing open packs of snacks. Cupcakes, jerky, and chips start to pile up in a plastic bag that was lying near. ]
no subject
But Soliel's actions and reassurance are enough. She trusts her friend's instinct on this. She hasn't led Orihime stray thus far!
Orihime nods. ]
You're right. This is for the greater good...
[ Welp, that means she's opening the back of hohos too. ]
This is going to be a one-stop buffet!
[ Chips, candies, pastries, preserved meats, pickles, melted slurpee, cheese, cold hot dogs--yes, it's quite a mess. ]
Do you think this is enough?
no subject
[ She does wish they had gone in someplace more well suited for this. Then again, what place is well-suited to a monster attack? Short of a gun shop, this is as lucky as they could get.
Soleil gives the bag a whiff and winces. Some of those weird preserved things random convenience stores have sure are smelly which should help get that thing's attention. She takes the bag and throws it out one of the broken store front windows. For a few tense moments she doesn't think this is going to work--the thing is a monster, after all, so it probably eats exclusively cute girls--but it does eventually sniff the air and walk away. ]
...Come on.
[ She takes Orihime's hand. This is the risky part. It takes her a moment, but she manages to get a good fake smile going to flash at Orihime in an attempt to comfort her. With a nod, she bolts out the door with her and in the opposite direction of the monster. ]
