AUGUST TDM
|
AUGUST TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé. ...yeah. Yeah, it's just sort of a mess... What will you do today? I. What the hell happened here? Perhaps you're new to the city, or perhaps you've finally started to notice just how bad the damage is to the beloved city of Recollé. The convention center is still crumbled in pieces and several local shops have boarded up windows and doors to prepare for reconstruction. Vendors on the street try to urge residents to purchase monster insurance for all of their home and vehicle needs. But the moment you step outside, you'll find yourself greeted by a member of the Recollé Restoration Committee as they thrust a hardhat into your hands and eagerly chatter about your new assignment. Whether you find yourself in Tisse and assigned to haul pieces of stone around or you're placed over in Apprassage to pour cement, you'll find you aren't alone in these tasks. It's nice to meet your coworkers, isn't it? II. But really, what caused all of this? This is completely insane and while some of you may be willing to help rebuild the city, others might wish to solve the mystery. Poking around the various districts, NPCs will explain that monster attacks "sometimes just happen" which seems pretty strange in and of itself. Monsters shouldn't "just happen", should they? And where are these alleged monsters anyway? Careful what you wish for, though. Exploring too much and straying off-task will lead to finding some things you may not want. These creatures will immediately hone in on new Retrospec users and begin to chase them, though they won't outright attack. While the smaller ones may be destroyed with a bit of effort, it might be wise to either cut your losses or find someone with a bit more experience to take on the larger creatures. Don't worry; there's bound to be someone to help. III. By now, you may have heard the rumors from some of your fellow Retrospec users that several members of the network have disappeared. You may even hear the rumors that those members are lost in "unreality" and that the city itself is a bit...unstable. But they're just rumors, right? Everything seems fine as you go about your day (monsters notwithstanding.) However, any time you pass from one district to another suddenly a list of names scrolls past your line of vision . As the list comes to a halt and lands on one name, you may recognize it as a friend or a stranger. If you're lucky, you may get a holographic video connecting you to someone still in the city. If you're even luckier, you may find someone speaking up inside your head due to a telepathic connection. Go ahead and say hi. You just might get some answers from those who have been lost and those you haven't met yet. IV. As the night begins to set upon the city, a warm sleepy feeling rolls through. Whatever you're doing, it's hard to fight off the urge to curl up under a shaded tree and take a nap. After some time it's nearly impossible to ignore any longer and no matter where you are, you'll instantly fall asleep. Strangely, even The place that you wake up, however, may look very familiar to you. You've seen this place before. In fact, you've lived through this very scene before. Maybe it's the little league game you scored your first home run, or maybe it's your high school prom. These are your memories played back to you, and glancing back you may find that again you aren't alone. Any Retrospec user has the ability to pass through these pockets of time and can stumble right into your memories. The memory pockets can appear no matter where a person is, and they'll be able to view and interact with the memories they see. Take a walk through your childhood neighborhood. Sit through the nightmare of your college entrance exams. These memories are yours as you've lived them. However, try not to change anything about the past. Memories can be quite tricky if meddled with too much. BONUS. While the makers of Retrospec are a bit scattered and busy at the moment, it seems as though they have failsafes to keep their systems up and running. The latest update push operates on its own and begins to download to your device. Your profile remains the same as always (your name and your photo), but it appears you won't have access to it until you apply one of the brand new filters to your picture. Seems easy, right? Maybe you should have given this a second thought. As soon as the filter's applied to your photo, you might find that people are stopping and staring at you as you go about your day. They may or may not comment, but what's evident is that something's going on that you're unaware of. A quick glance in your phone's camera, a storefront window or a mirror will reveal all. That fun filter's now applied itself to your face with no hope of coming off for a while. Have fun! Welcome to the For continuity's sake, for the first time we will be stating that the TDM is dated IC 8/17! This is all in one day. Potential applicants/characters on the TDM will revert back to NPC status on 8/18 and will not remember the events of the TDM until the mod-posted Retrospec post goes up 9/1. Members of Group 2, since the TDM can be considered game-canon, prompts III and IV are open for you to tag around to new players while stuck in your locations outside of the city! For Prompt III, members of Group 2 may telepathically connect to someone even if there's a video option, but their faces and surroundings will be obscured! Other members of the game + potential applicants may use video if they wish. For Prompt IV, please remember these are memories from your AU and not your canon! Should characters deviate from these "memories" too much, they will find themselves thrown back to the beginning of the memory to start over! And finally, the filters provided in the bonus are just examples and you can swap in any others you want. Your August TDM directory is here, and your AU workshop is here! Our mod questions thread for this TDM is over here! |

[Haru pretty much just knows Akira from visiting the cafe so often, so that comes as a surprise to her. But the sound of the sand bat gets her to flinch a little, paying attention to where she's going again. Honestly... even she doesn't quite know where she's going, except away from the monsters, but instincts have her heading towards home. That's always been her safe place.]
If you could fix it, I'd be very grateful! [But on the subject of normalcy... She's quiet for a moment. What's "normal" to Akira? She's met people who know that monsters have never been here before and people who insist that this is routine. The thought gets her to chew on her bottom lip for a moment before she lifts her head,] That means there won't be monsters anymore, right?
no subject
[ That'll settle it, however he's not sure if she'll remember this the next day... Or if she'll be a part of Retrospec at all. He remembers the last time people joined, they returned back to their NPC selves. Well, it doesn't matter. A moped should be fixed. As Haru makes her way to her home, monsters are gaining in number again around this area of Recolle. It puts a frown on Akira's face, but their speed lets them evade most of the horde. ]
Yeah. Whatever you feel is wrong or different, they'll be gone—well, I hope monsters will be the first go.
[ He's also struggling with understanding what's normalcy seeing that he had his epiphany when Chocobos, dancing fruit, and missing colors are Very Normal. As Haru makes a turn, they're met by a barricade of monsters.
Uh... If they turn, there's also another wall of monsters. ]

[She really appreciates it. She doesn't mind paying the mechanic, but if there's a way to save money, she'll take it, especially if it's a friend helping her.
And hearing about the wrongness of this whole thing, that this will go away soon, it makes her feel relieved. She's since realized that she's not the only one feeling this way, but it's still a comfort to know that she's not alone in this, that she's not going crazy.]
That's good to hear. The sooner they're gone, the better.
[Her mother could be in danger - her cats, her garden! But speaking of danger, once she takes a turn, there's that wall of monsters. She tries to turn to get out, take another way, but - no avail, another group of monsters have caught up to them.
Haru backs her moped up, legs on either side with her feet on the ground now, while gripping onto the handlebars tight. She doesn't have anything that could count as a weapon now, and there appears to be more than there was last time.]
Akira...? Do you have any ideas?
[HELP ME OUT FEARLESS LEADER]
no subject
Just pick a direction, I'll handle the monsters.
[ Nerves are steel are necessary to drive through this havoc, especially with what's going to happen next. Luckily, he's still seated comfortable behind Haru, so he only needs to frame his glasses with his fingertips. All that can be heard is the gust of wind, maybe even the crackle of fire. A samurai with two blades hovers behind them, ready to cleave through whatever opposes them. Taking deep breaths, he can feel the strain in his shoulders. Even if summoning the Persona exhausts him, he accepts it as practice.
She only needs to make her choice? Or she can look behind her and they get swarmed. ]

[The noise is incredibly unsure. How can Akira handle all this? He's got a dagger, sure, but she's pretty sure that won't cut it? Hahaha cut it -
But she does trust him. He knows more than she does, and the noises sound odd - honestly, she mistakes it for an enemy getting too close. So she steels herself: takes in a deep breath, holds on to the handlebars tightly, and braces herself, then decides to hit the gas towards what looks like a weak point in the wall of monsters. Even though it's a weak point, she's sure Lavande won't survive if she hits them again. That, plus the fact that she has no idea what the result of this will be (though part of her says DEATH AND A LOT OF IT), makes her cringe, head turning away more as they get closer to the monsters.
Akira if this decision destroys Lavande she will destroy you]

Either way, they run through as long as she drives. ]
Pedal to the metal—actually, does this even have a pedal...?
[ YOU GET THE POINT. ]
no subject
What...?
[Then Haru makes the mistake of looking back to see what's going - whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat the fuck]
What?!
[Her hands move away from the handles in surprise, which in turn makes the moped do the exact opposite of pedaling to the metal. She's got nerves of steel but there's a giant samurai warrior above them? Akira how did you get a level 79 persona??]
no subject
[ To her first one. Akira thought she would just be glad that the monsters are gone, letting them proceed onto the road as they stumble over each other in attempts to chase. There's no way they can catch up now, but— ]
What?
[ To her second one?! Also, Akira borrowed this level 79 persona. Think of it like a loan from his other self. The samurai almost instantly disappears when she rests her gaze on him for even a second. The Persona is shy, Haru. Stop being so forward? They were doing fine at the beginning, but he notices that they're slowing. ]
... Okumura. If we don't gain speed, the monsters will catch up to us.
[ what is this granny wagon ]
no subject
[That's right, monsters! But - the samurai disappeared?
What??
Not important, though. Haru forces herself to turn forward again and get her hands back on the bars, accelerating once more to an even faster speed. How is Akira so calm about this?!]
What was that?!
no subject
THEY MAY BE DUMB, BUT HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE ABANDONED TO THE MONSTERS ]
Uhm. [ Ah. Is this what it feels like to be Yukiko? Showing Personas off for the first time to someone new. He coyly plays with his bangs— ] It's a samurai.
[ Just kill him. ]
no subject
Thankfully, Haru would never abandon him! Especially since he has a... samurai. Though that answer makes her look back at him with a frowny pout.]
Akira!
[she would never abandon you but does she have to abandon you]
no subject
[ Because they're on the run? However, he's weak to those frowny pouts and knitted eyebrows—more like he's worried that she'll throw him off her moped if he denies her an answer. Not that he thinks she will.
But. ]
It's a Persona—[ But he quickly AND GENTLY moves her head so she looks to the front. There's just an ogre... sitting in the middle of the road with its back facing them. They're also really close to crashing into it. ]
no subject
[But before she can ponder about that, Haru's suddenly looking forward again and OGRE.
She lets out a noise between a squeak and a yell before she takes a sharp turn to avoid it - while reaching back to hold on tight to Akira's arm, just in case that makes him lose balance. She usually rides alone, yes, but the people she considers friends are important to her, so her mind's always on their safety in situations like this.
The ogre is incredibly stupid, but it still notices as they whoosh past it. Thankfully, it's pretty lazy, though it at least makes an attempt to get up and go after them.]
no subject
It takes him a moment or two to calm down, still holding onto her arm like this is the last comfort in the world. ]
Yeah... A Persona. I'm not sure how to explain it, but it's a part of me. That's really all I know.
[ It actually comes with an apologetic voice as his gaze averts to the passing scenery, finally letting blood circulate through her arm. Sorry about that. ]
So where are we going?
no subject
Haru's still gripping onto his arm while he's holding onto hers, as she assumes that he's close to falling off. It's not until he loosens his grip that she does so as well, though there's a frown on her face as her gaze turns a bit distant.]
A Persona...
[Why does that sound like it should be familiar?
She shakes her head to focus on his question instead, then focuses on the road ahead. That's... a good question.]
I was going to a corner store that got attacked to help with the cleaning, but, well... [She shrugs her shoulders helplessly. There were monsters, and the broom she'd been given had been destroyed, so...] To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure where we're going right now. Just... away?
[She was heading home, but with monsters in her path... This isn't the road towards it anymore.]
Do you have any ideas, Akira?
no subject
Quiet, he only hopes... That she doesn't remember anything painful. The imagery is still vivid in his mind—familiar faces disappearing into nothingness and erased from the public's cognition. It's a well of emotions he would never wish upon the ones involved, including Haru.
He gives her arm one last squeeze before letting go completely. Puffing up his chest, he tries to lift his mood the best he can. ]
We can still help that store if you're up for it.
[ Good deeds make you feel good. ]
no subject
Akira's suggestion, however, does put her in better spirits. She lifts her head, frown disappearing as a smile comes up instead.]
I would be! We can find ways to help that doesn't involve sweeping - or find another broom somewhere! I'm certain the people around here can provide another!
