JUNE TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé. The kids are out for the summer and the weather's just fine. The sun's shining brightly, not a cloud in the clear gray sky. Everything seems at peace and citizens are out and about, smiling to one another and enjoying each other's company. Oh, and this thing (complete with cardboard cut-out) has currently taken the place of the founders' statues in Recollé Square. But that's probably not a big deal.  What will you do today? I. What is this thing? Why is this thing here? For those of you in Tribunal Terrace today you may wish to investigate the five-foot-tall spinning wheel. How did it even get here? And where did the statues of the founders go? Even if you cannot answer those questions, it's hard to ignore the urge to give it a spin. Check out those colors go 'round and 'round. Depending on what number you land on, you will find a notification pop up on your phone with a short list of…words. Are these supposed to be qualifications? Weird. That was a waste of time. However, the moment you walk away you will find yourself accosted by various recruiters wherever you go, congratulating you on your impressive resumé and leading you to an office in Chata. Their offices have been equipped with tabletop-sized spinning wheels much like the one in Recollé Square that will spin 'round and 'round, determining the position you qualify for. Are you ready to show how these traits make you the perfect applicant? It looks like you have time to consult with your fellow candidates before your turn comes. Or perhaps you've managed to resist spinning that wheel. The recruiters absolutely love your willpower and determination and want you to join their team! For those who can resist, they will still find themselves whisked away by recruiters to the same office and thrown straight into training to prepare for interviewing their neighbors. Recruiters will set up pairs of interviewers and applicants, leaving them alone to ask the hard-hitting questions and pick the most qualified candidate. Do your best and beat out the rest! It's your time to shine. II. Just because school is out for the summer doesn't mean Apparassage is quiet. Students and faculty alike are bustling about already preparing for the next school year. Campus tours of Recollé University run every two hours, and there are open house tours of the local elementary, middle and high school. Perhaps you're a future student exploring the campus and getting to know your future classmates. Maybe you're faculty or a student guide wrangling the kids and keeping them in line. Or you just might be one of the unfortunate ones who have found yourself with six weeks of summer school. However, no matter where you find yourself in this district things get a little tricky when you're ready to leave for the day. The sidewalks outside of the buildings have all disintegrated, revealing a large void leading to nowhere beneath your feet. Without a clear path it seems impossible to escape, but stacked at the entrances of every doorway are large tiles with the letters of the alphabet carefully printed on them. When you look across the devoid path, you may notice you have a partner in a similar position with their own stack of letters. Get ready to expand your vocabulary. Building a bridge of connecting words may be your only chance of getting home before sunset. Strangely, as the letters are laid out they seem to suspend mid-air enough to hold your weight as you make your way carefully across this pit. Balance and precision are key in this game. The stack floats along behind you as you cross the void, letters seemingly adding to the pile to provide more materials to build. But like all games, there can be only one winner. Those who clear their letters first will arrive outside of the district safely, free now to come and go as they please. For those who do not clear their stack in time, you might have luck jumping from word to word to cross the finish line. Try as you might, if this is the method you follow, the moment you land on the winning word to leave the district the letters will glitch out, sending you plummeting into the void and landing on a long slope down to the bottom. Upon landing, you will see a series of chutes and ladders one can use to climb back up. Some ladders lead back to Apparassage. Some lead straight into Tisse, and some even lead to unexpected places. Where will you end up? The journey is up to you now. III. The days are longer, the nights are shorter, the sun is shining and it's noticeably warmer. Isn't it a perfect time for a summer potluck? The citizens of Recollé seem to think so and have all gathered today in Hollingberry Field with friends and loved ones to share food and fun. Kids chase after each other in friendly games of tag and hide-and-seek while other attendants mingle with one another, piling plates of food and sharing with their neighbor. Why, even Mayor Mayer is out today for this summer kickoff with his lovely red Chocobo, Seabiscuit. As the evening begins to wind down, however, there's a startled cry from the Mayor as he realizes someone has kidnapped his beloved pet from right under his nose. Was it you? How about you? Everyone has become a suspect and it's up to you to solve whodunnit. The Mayor provides everyone with a pen and a pad of paper divided into three sections for a suspect, a method, and a location. Grab a friend (or even a group of strangers) and get ready to interrogate each other to crack this case. (With a little looking, however, it's easy to see that Seabiscuit's merely wandered down the hill away from the park. But maybe it's better not to tell the Mayor. He seems very adamant about this game.) For anyone who manages to solve the case, the Mayor will be immensely grateful and reward you with a valuable prize! Congratulations! However, for anyone who fails to solve the puzzle, or even anyone found guilty of this heinous crime, by order of the Mayor you will be subjected to jail time for a full half an hour. (The Mayor can't stay too mad at his citizens. He loves them all.) IV. A nice, leisurely stroll through the entertainment district of Tisse seems to be in order. Summer sales are aplenty and now's the perfect time to shop 'til you drop. On the other hand, that doesn't seem to be the only thing dropping in Tisse. Do you hear that? Perhaps it is easy to ignore the sounds of stone crashing to the ground. Construction isn't unusual in this district. You think maybe you passed an ongoing demolition on your way inside a shop. But the crash happens again, and again, and again, a loud string of booms growing closer and closer. Are those buildings tipping into one another? Or is it your imagination? You may not have time to answer while the string of events is put into motion. A crane swings overhead, knocking into a well-placed boulder that begins to roll down the street. Cranes, pulleys and wires move in sync as the ball rolls right toward you. Will you run? Will you collide right into the next set of traps? You may recall learning about this type of experiment once upon a time, coming to realize the elaborately planned Rube Goldberg machine spans the entirety of the city. Maybe you're one of the lucky ones and you find a safe shop to dive into to escape. Or perhaps your sole focus is to run and get as far as you can, failing to notice that the large boulder herds you right to the end of the district and into a caged-in area. Make yourself comfortable. Someone from the outside will have to free you. But hey, maybe you aren't alone in this trap. Misery loves company, doesn't it? BONUS. The Retrospec app is at it again, just as useless as it's always been. After downloading to your device and allowing you to upload a profile picture, the app seems to take over your phone. Any time you open your phone to use it, a splash screen appears prompting you to pick one of the brightly colored wedges (or one of the two grayed out ones.) It's time to exercise your brain and buff your trivia stats. Answering a question from your selected category will allow you to use your phone once again, but if you get it wrong? Retrospec will encourage you not to give up and try again. ...or, you know, you could ask someone to help figure out the answer. Hey, that person looks like they're bursting with knowledge! Perhaps it's best to see if they can help you stop this madness. As usual, any attempt to get the company to reply are futile. Once a question has been answered correctly, phones will return to their usual functionality until the next time it settles into idle mode. Welcome to the recolle test drive meme! Youichi Kuramochi | Daiya no Ace

[Kuramochi tried to ignore the big spinning wheel during his walk when he couldn't stop thinking about it. He passed the wheel two times before he stopped in front of it to inspect it. Well, it looks interesting, he has nothing else to do there's no harm in trying it. After he lands on a six, it's not long before he's ushered into this building for a job. A job where he doesn't meet any of the requirements.]

Look, I don't know if this is part of the college or not, but I know I'm not qualified for any of this.

[Where would he find a hoverboard? Why would it be needed for a job? That doesn't make any sense. He'll try to hear them out before he leaves. He finally has time to play a game and he doesn't want to waste it.]

[II.]

[While he doesn't have as many responsibilities now that the school year has ended it doesn't stop him from leading a few of the tours around the high school. It also gives him a chance to look into who's in summer school so he can kick their butt into gear. He's going to be a third year next year, he has to give a good example. After he finishes his tours and his check ups, Kuramochi is ready to leave for the day.

He could leave if there weren't any huge letters in the way. He's not sure why this is here, but he has some time to kill he could try it. Kuramochi places his bag down as he collects a few letters that he could use. He spreads them out to look for a word he can spell. He's trying to find a good one. Anyone is welcome to help!]

[Kuramochi decided to take a trip to Tisse to see if any of the games he's following were out yet when the buildings start falling when he's in one of the stores. He ignores it at first, until he sees the boulder rolling down towards him. He may not play in the baseball team anymore that doesn't mean he's lost any speed. Kuramochi takes off putting his legs to use while he avoids the boulder. He runs to the nearest store as he watches the boulder roll pass the door. He shakes his head and turns to the nearest person.]

That is, Mafuyu who has summer school, got wrangled into attending by her parents, and was now trying to escape from a classroom window, jumping out via her usual escape route that deposits her onto an overhang she can slide down onto the ground— what used to be the ground...

There's no ground anymore, her feet not hitting pavement and instead she scatters a dozen tiles every which way as she scrambles to catch onto the edge of the gaping chasm before she gets swallowed up by the earth. ]

[ It's a serious case if the Mayor's prized chocobo is missing! Of course Lailah is here to help, looking thoughtful as the details of what happened is explained and spread across. A pet can often be seen as a child in some cases.. at least to a mother, once you have children and they leave home. Who else left to spoil?

That's when suddenly a warm smile shows on her lips and she turns to the nearest person to her. Something's coming that's for sure with that look on her face. ] Maybe, just maybe, it wasn't kidnapped.. chances are, it may have just gone on a wark.

[Katherine liked Lailah: she honestly wouldn't have lasted that long at work without her, and the older woman had served as mentor of sorts since she started. Yet sometimes, just sometimes, she was able to make you forget completely that she was a grown adult. And somehow, Katherine seems to be playing the Watson to this person. And by Watson, she means the hardass who hasn't picked up how unseriously this was all being taken. So have a one-armed college counselor trying to talk her way out of this.

I don't think this is the time to be joking right now, Lailah. Switches attention to mayor. I am very sorry about your chocobo, sir, but there definitely seems to be a misunderstanding here. My friend and I were just-

III.

[Long beautiful evening in the park when you are Kenta Ooshima means all of your loud, drunk friends have basically found a new occasion to get loud and drunk in public with no one actually minding that they are doing so. Kenta is mostly a quiet drunk himself, but given the number of bottles and cans the little group has around, it's safe to say absolutely no one is sober right now, not even him, even if he doesn't look very out of it.

So at first, the cries for looking for the missing chocobo completely go over his head, because as soon as he's ascertained his friends are all here and okay, well...

Upon being given a pad, he squints at what's written on it.]

... Why is there no option for the Mayor not paying attention his own pet and losing him himself?

[Even drunk, he can be logical.]

IV.

[Huge stone. Rolling down the streets. Towards him.

It takes Kenta a full five seconds of seeing this before his body actually reacts and he looks around and ducks into the first open doorway he can find because what the hell, he can't run fast enough to outrun that thing and life isn't a cartoon anyway. He turns around just in time to see the boulder roll past the door, having missed him by a hair's breadth.

Only then does he look around to try and see where he is exactly. Hopefully he didn't intrude into someone's house, and if this is a shop, he didn't look completely stupid running into it.]

Kenta's appartment
[If you're a friend from University, or one of Jirou's many friends, you know that Kenta's place is really nice, has a lot of delicious, authentic Japanese food prepared by his housekeeper Suzuki-san, and always a few guys in suits lurking around that you are pretty sure are carrying guns even if you've never been able to tell for sure and they don't speak to you most of the time, just bow their heads and then stare for a few moments as if to make sure they remember who you are.

So if you come knocking on the door and Kenta's home, you can be certain you'll be invited in een if the visit was unexpected.]

Suzuki-san, I have guests. Can you make us some tea?


Juri's show
[Kenta doesn't really look like your typical customer for this type of establishment. For one he's wearing a suit - without a tie, but still - and said suit looks like it may have cost about as much as the building, and then there's the fact that he looks really young compared to most of the other patrons. He also hasn't chosen a table or a booth and is simply sitting at the bar, knocking back drinks and not really talking to anyone.

He also doesn't seem very interested by the show, and you might wonder why he came to a place with drag shows if it's just to drink and not watch. But that only lasts until Juri's name is announced. Then he perks up and turns around in his chair, settling down and even bending forward a little, watching with rapt attention.

If you know him, you know the reason for this. If you don't you might be excused for thinking he's a die-hard fan and came only to watch one single performer even though drinks are expensive here... but he doesn't look like he's hurting for money.

Don't try and talk to him while Juri's on stage, though, or you'll get shushed and glared at.]

[Despite the fact that Jirou and Fai have been friends for several weeks now ('friends' like 'putting makeup on each other and getting drunk together and playing in hot tubs together' sort of friends), Fai hasn't actually dared to attend one of Jirou's shows for quite some time. Mostly because he used to be in this exact same scene, just as popular as Jirou at the time, and it ended... poorly. So poorly that Fai's been afraid to associate with the drag scene in Recolle for years, and only occasionally works up the nerve to visit his old friends on their own turf.

But hey, maybe it's the liquid courage that's done it tonight, or maybe it's just because Jirou promised that Kenta would make sure no one bothered him if he tried to go to a show again. And Kenta is huge, seriously.

Still, Fai's not taking too many chances. He's in drag but nothing super glamorous--just a cute swishy skirt that shows off his long legs and a cute top, and a cropped jacket over the top. And sunglasses. Indoors. Because nothing screams "I'm totally not trying to hide who I am" like Audrey Hepburn sunglasses indoors, right?

Since they're already at the bar, Fai downs the rest of his fruity drink and signals the waiter for another, and scoots a little closer to Kenta. They've still got at least one more performance before Juri goes on.]

Hmm, this one's a little off-key, isn't she? I wonder if she's having a bad night.

[The day has been spent showing prospective students around campus, and she's relieved when it's time to return home. That is, until she discovers that getting home will be a bit more problematic than she anticipated. She bends to test the empty space, and when she finds there's no invisible ground there, she heaves a sigh. Looking towards whoever happens to be near her, she picks up one of the letters near her and frowns.

Muttered:] Ridiculous. Well, we might as well make this as quick as we can. How should we begin?

[It just so happens that she isn't victorious in this particular match. She goes tumbling through the air until she ends up sliding down to the ground. Once she understands just what's happened and looks around at the ladders surrounding her, her expression becomes extremely put upon. She brushes back a stray strand of hair in frustration.]

Honestly, I hardly have time for this!

[It's not every day you see a boulder rolling towards you down the street, but all the same, she doesn't hesitate for a moment. Her movements are quick as she starts to rush out of the way and into a nearby store, but she halts when she notices that there's someone else directly in the path of the rock. There's a brief moment of hesitance before she rushes your way with a sharp sigh, hurrying to take hold of your arm and pull you out of the way.]

moreover, once whisked away to the office, if someone happens to look a bit unconfident or unhappy, she taps them on the shoulder. ] There is nothing impossible for me! That's why, you only have to follow me and we're sure to get in. [ for the record, she got "b-movie actor." as for why it matters: ] Forget your silly job.

You're "it" aren't you? My other half? [ co-star, she means. as for what she says. listen. ]

[ honestly, stella has always wanted to try playing detective at least once in her life. it's why she approaches it with a certain level of dramaticism.

as in, she basically says "it was me" and gets locked in for temporary jail time. whether you're beside her in failure or anything else, she starts off slowly: ] So~? [ it's almost suggestive. ] What do you say we break out? [ softer, as she draws closer. ] Just. You. And. Me?

[ to a degree, she's never truly been met with actual failure. but, this trivia was... p. ridiculous. while testing her luck was always an option, she wanted to get full access to her app as soon as possible. it's why, she decides to put herself out there. to ask for help in the way she knew how. in a loud voice, her tone exaggerative. ] Is there no one here willing to help out a poor, helpless maiden? [ she presses the back of her palm to her forehead. even mimicking a sniffle or two. ]

[ Sousuke had absolutely zero interest in finding the missing Chocobo, and when he realizes that the pad is just a real life version of Clue he was soon whisked away into "jail" due to defiance. He doesn't view it as a completely loss, if anything he can pick a corner and take a nap, but luck doesn't seem to be on his side today. ]

... You do know that they'll let us out the minute they find it, right? There's no way in hell that bird got anywhere far.

[ But does he trust people to notice anything right in front of their face? Not really, because he sure doesn't.

Shrugging, he decides to at least humor her. ] Do you have a plan for our great escape?

Ryder Clayton | Original Character

[OOC: So basically, AU!Ryder is more active and is not afraid to show his aggression when stressed out, unlike his former timid and introvert human canon self. But if you want more info about my first original character, his AU workshop is right here!]

III.

[How did it come to this?

One minute, Ryder was trying to get home from the library. Then all of the sudden, he is labeled as a suspect for kidnapped his Chocobo. Well, that's what his paper says that he got from the mayor.

Sure, he does read many mystery novels including some detective stories to help him figure out whodunit, but right now, he is completely confused by this whole situation. Especially that he just saw Seabiscuit wandering around not far away from where he is.

Of course, once the "game" starts, the first thing Ryder does is to approach and looks at you with a confused look in his face.]

Is it me or his "missing" Chocobo was just the mayor's excuse to let us play this whodunnit game?

IV.

[If you're expecting a quiet afternoon in Tisse, don't try to bother about it once you hear a 15-years old boy screaming in horror. If you do try to find the source of it though, you may see Ryder trying to run away from the boulder as he tries to jump from fire hydrants to benches just to escape from his predicament.

Of course, he does have enough energy to shout to nearby bystanders.]

Coming through! Get away! Can't you see I'm trying not to be a pancake over here?!

[You have two choices: Leave him be or try to yank him out from his rolling situation.]

What?! Wrong?! Come on, can you just get me back on my e-book app already?!

[It's been an hour ever since filled up his Retrospec profile and unfortunately for him, he's been getting wrong answers in an attempt to read his e-book fantasy novel he recently purchased online. What's even worst is that the Rickroll song is starting to get on his nerves completely.

Eventually, he may notice you and tugs on your shirt in order to get your attention. If you do, you may see him, now completely stressed out by the app.]

(he’s always kind of wanted to do that, ever since seeing some of those game shows on tv when he was little.)

“A dollar, the perfect alibi, can’t lie, indecisive…?” What does that mean?

[ that’s a headscratcher, but… whatever. childhood dream fulfilled, he walks away.

or tries to. before Roxas even knows what’s happening, he’s surrounded by people and whisked away to their offices to spin another small (and much less satisfying) wheel. This one tells him he’s going to be applying for the job of… ]

Why would anyone steal a chocobo?

[ maybe it’s rare? Roxas doesn’t know much about chocobos, but since he has been given this Very Important Task by the mayor himself, he might as well take it seriously. though he doesn’t understand why this job wouldn’t be given to one of the local police officers instead, he just kind of rolls with it. why not?

okay, okay, where to start… maybe he should ask around. ]

Hey, do you know anything about the mayor’s chocobo? Or where to find, uh… [ squint ] Daisy Day…?

[ he does a double-take. ]

[ because shouting into the void always helps. he rattles the bars of his weird little cage as much as he can, because obviously that’ll fix this. what kind of place just has boulders rolling around, chasing people into cages?! ]

[There's a random kid in a cage. Why is there a random kid in a cage? Those are Magilou's first thoughts when he flags her down for help. She has no idea how to get him out of there, but he looks pretty desperate. She almost feels bad for him. Almost.]

[And here, Fuuka was hoping that she would have a simple and normal visit to her local university. However, it just simply wasn't meant to be! As she wandered around the streets, she couldn't help but take in everything before her. It was a little difficult knowing that she was away from home but at the same time? She couldn't help but be excited!

What this place has to offer for her? She wasn't sure but that doesn't stop her from exploring the area!

Now that she looked down at the letters before her, she hummed to herself. While she has a few ideas, she didn't want to leave anyone out!]

[Well, Fuuka doesn't have much of a choice, does she? She didn't know what was going on but all she knew was that there was a crime that needed to be solved! As she looked down at the paper, she was pretty shocked to see what was written on there!]

[ It's all the common letters, because Ryoji has a bunch of X's and W's left over from trying to bridge his way from the University back to his apartment in Apprasage with a crude zig-zag of short connecting words of "cat" and "tag" and "glad" and whatever he can place down in hopes that his stack will refresh with better letters. It's not working, but maybe they can merge their paths and share their letters. ]

[ Yugi did not remember placing his resume into the places that the recruiters kept saying. Plus, Mr. Kaiba was going to be very frustrated if he showed up late saying that he had interview after interview…plus how would you even tell that to your boss? They had so much coming up for the summer and Yugi was not going to be late!

The problem was that they kept talking and Yugi didn’t have the heart to interrupt them. They seemed so passionate! Plus, Yugi had just found the wheel interesting, but didn’t seem to give it much thought when it talked about being ripped and foam swords. That definitely was not him (well okay, maybe the foam sword part…). ]

Maybe he could help someone out. However, the issue with getting to the college was that the world had turned into some kind of strange scrabble game.

Yugi tilted his head as he stood at the door to the apartment, which confused him. What in the world…

Leaning back into the entrance of the apartment, he noticed a thing of tiles. What? Did someone make some kind of elaborate game out of this? Picking up the tiles, Yugi made sure that his bag and such was on tight. He didn’t seem bothered by this turn of events, instead, began to work out words to put down.

Once started, Yugi’s concentration is intense, but he could be a great asset to anyone struggling! Interrupting him will be easy if you just ask! ]

II. Recolle University — The Letter People Were Also A Staple Of Classic Edutainment

[Of all the days to have accepted the offer of a tour of Recollé University's campus, right? Nevertheless, the morning finds one Miss Carmen Sandiego, founder and namesake of the fledgling Sandiego Foundation, present and receiving the VIP treatment from some faculty and administrators who seem highly enthusiastic about entertaining her while she's here to see the facilities.

(Hey, maybe you're one of them! Who knows — if you play your cards right, maybe your department will end up with a nice big charitable donation before the start of the next school year. The Sandiego Foundation sure does love supporting schools and educators, after all.)

But it's sure not cards that are being played once the visit ends and she's making her way outside, because holy shit THERE WAS A FLOOR HERE AND IT'S GONE NOW and for all that these giant alphabet tiles seem pretty shady, the prospect of standing around like an idiot fumbling for what to do about a Spontaneous Gigantic Void™ seems even worse.

Half-experimentally, she picks up one of the letters and tosses it it to the ground, surprised to find it floating once it's been placed. Okay, so the good news is, it looks as though these tiles might just be useful in terms of navigating this mess.

...The bad news is, she tossed an X, so. Ha ha, ha ha ha, ahahahahaha. Ha.]

[The nice thing about managing the Sandiego Foundation is that, even though it's not nearly as exciting as her previous lines of work, it does at least keep her busy on a day to day basis. There's always something to do, something to focus on, something to preoccupy her instead of sitting around idle and pining for the Good Old Days™. So after a morning of...well, everything that her morning decided to be, Carmen ends up in Tisse by the afternoon to record a couple of brief soundbytes and a short interview about some of the Foundation's activities and the occasional upcoming fundraiser she's got in the works.

That concluded, she can be found in the lobby — because with her insistence on always resorting to red even without taking into consideration the part about how blue and green don't exist anymore, she absolutely stands out — reviewing her personal schedule and taking some notes in her leather-bound personal planner, which has the logo of her foundation embossed clearly on the cover.]

He's exhausted and needing a short nap far quicker than expected, and he's just a little too far from home to push him towards giving a flip about not making it back just yet.

Being newer to the area, how could Mayor Mayer even know who he is, let alone suspect him as well. A Chocobo thief. Never mind that he had been in plain sight the whole time, since he was on the job, but he supposes that is neither here nor there.

He glances up and across the way, keeping an eye on his young charge to see that he stays out of harm's way. Or rather, that he doesn't create harm for himself, instead. But he supposes he might as well aide in locating Seabiscuit. From what he had heard, there would be a valuable prize after all. And it wouldn't hurt to get into the Mayor's good graces while he was at it, as it were.

Glancing down at the list, he narrows his eyes, an air of vague disbelief as he reads aloud:] Black magic? Alien abduction...?

[Faolan stares at his phone and at the question displayed on it. What is the capital of Comoros? He stares at the question again, before deciding there obviously must have been some sort of error, and forcing a restart. Once it powers up again, however, a new question displays in the first question's place. In what century did the Dodo bird become extinct? it asks again, which prompts Faolan to question whether this new application has in fact taken over his phone and whether or not he should be worried about that fact.]

You've got to be kidding me... [He mutters to himself, typing in his best guess at a response -- 18th? how should he know -- and swearing under his breath as his phone plays him an obnoxious song and refreshes a new question instead. Only two questions in but he's wondering if he should maybe just see about replacing it before it starts asking him for a ransom or god only knows what else it's about to throw at him next.]

[ Like many others, Yonah's been roped in to assist in the case of the missing chocobo, Seabiscuit.

Her moments as a detective are short-lived. She found the bird fairly quickly and instantly took a liking to it, giving it all the scritches and taking selfies to send to her family. Soon enough, she's one of the suspects.

The second she hears steps approaching, she ushers the bird to hide behind some bushes and trees. Not exactly the best hiding spot when you can clearly see a large beak and red tailfeathers poking out. ]

IV.

[ Sales sound like a good opportunity to go shopping together with family! What could have been a fun shopping trip with her father, one of the rare moments when she can be with him, took for a terrible turn. The rolling boulders split Yonah away from her father, chasing them both off to opposite sides of the district.

She doesn't have the strength to constantly flee from traps, so after a brief run, she steps aside within the safety of one of the shops. ]

And for awhile it seems like he won't, until high school open house is over for the day and the last hour of summer class has just been dismissed--which is where Aizawa happens to be coming from now, still in the process of packing a folder of worksheets into his bag as he slowly makes his way for one of the building entrances.

Maybe you're somewhere off down the hall behind him, or maybe you're trying to make for this door yourself. Either way, you might be watching as he pulls open the entrance door in question, pauses for a long moment, and then. Closes it. ...Frowns at it, hand still on the handle. .....Opens it again, very slightly, eyeing the outdoors through the crack.

But no, he decides, he's not about that life. He's too tired for this. Is he sleeping right now? He's probably sleeping right now.

Closing the door a second time, he turns to address the audience down the hall behind him dryly.]

[Look, he might not be the most technologically savvy guy around or anything, but Aizawa still likes to think he takes reasonably good care of his phone most days. He knows the gist of how things work, the dos and the don'ts--randomly downloading strange apps being one of those Don'ts. It's been about a month since he last downloaded a new app in general, actually? Yet here this mystery app was out of the blue, sitting in his phone for several days now, resistant to all attempts at normal deletion. ...And now he can't even check the time in a grocery store without having to answer random trivia questions, apparently. So that's great.

Aizawa stands flummoxed in a grocery aisle between rows of cereal and coffee, store basket slung over an arm, holding his phone up and away from himself and grimacing at the screen as if it had just personally offended him. Though honestly, considering the music currently pouring out of it, could you blame him? No, you couldn't.

[Amelia had a great many opinions about this university, few of them very pleasant. The facilities were decent enough, she supposed, but it was still a public university. And a university that also housed her son. She'd been on tours of the campus before, so many times that the guides were a bit confused by her continued presence, but Amelia never answered their unspoken questions.

She also technically wasn't supposed to be here, so soon; she'd already met her quota of visits this month (week, few days...they blurred together).

But this was only one visit. One, small, brief visit. Surely he wouldn't begrudge his mother that.

Of course, all of that necessitated today behaving in a normal fashion.

The sidewalk crumbling into space before her very eyes threw a bit of a monkey wrench into that plan.

The black haired woman stared, unabashedly openly, because—really, what else were you supposed to do in the face of oblivion?

Amelia returned to herself enough to look up and over at the nearest person she could see, her expression for once too bewildered to be the least bit snobbish.]

III-A. This is not the whodunit you're looking for

[Whenever possible, Amelia took at least a brief walk every day; the Square was...currently more inconvenient than usual, so the Fields it was. Her dark green dress was no longer as visible as she would have liked, being an odd shade of grey, but her sunhat was far from inconspicuous. The red cloth flowers and decorative beads on its ribbon hadn't lost their hue, either; all said and done it really wasn't very difficult for Amelia to be accosted with pen and paper.]

Preposterous.

[Somehow, some way or another, Amelia has been coerced, coaxed, or headlocked and thrown into "jail". Most likely the latter. Amelia wasn't one to shy away from a scuffle, particularly when it involved something this stupid and with this many people being damned unreasonable about it. Didn't they know who she was? Who her lawyers were?

But. Fine. The woman knelt on the inflated surface, expression seemingly serene as she brushed her hair back into place and pondered lawsuits.

Then Amelia tugged at the knot of decorations on her headware—and pulled out a sharp hat pin six inches long.

( is he sure what this is all about? no, not really. it's certainly exciting. also confusing. until roughly yesterday, he hadn't known about things like the colour blue, or something called a horse. in fact he's still not sure he knows of either of these things, except he remembers something about them, and he's a little disappointed when he looks around and finds that his eyes are a startling grey in the mirror. he's very certain, out of nowhere, they should be green.

then he found the forget-me-nots. yes, the flower for their illustrious city. the one you're not supposed to pick?

yeah. he's holding a few semi-wilting flowers in hand as he sits across the interview table from you. yes, you. he's pleasantly confused, which is to say he's confused as to how spinning a wheel (exciting!) and being accosted by strangers (alarmingish?) and dragged into a job interview (amazing!) all in short order has his head spinning and him smiling at the person sitting across from him. )

Hello! I'm Reynir. This is a pretty clean place, isn't it? I really admire that.

( luck! what is luck? Luck is managing to not hurt himself sliding down the vortex of NOTHING that had swallowed the streets of apparassage. what a very distressing dream? it's probably a dream. he's taking it in stride with a sort of thin veneer of "okay, this is okay," mostly manifesting as resolutely climbing up a ladder. or a chute. he's pretty equal opportunity here.

or he's doggedly hanging on and grunting as his feet slide out from under him and he's holding on with sheer determination and saying, audibly: )

I've got this! Just a little... further...!

( he's not even halfway up, and there is, for some reason, a kitten in the hood of his hoodie. a tiny pink nose pops out and tiny ears and eyes criminally large and adorable for the size of its face regard anyone passing by, the kitten is judging the person carrying them.

as Reynir starts sliding back down this chute... you may want to join in the judging. or lend a hand. or laugh. or climb on. we're all equal losers here! )

( Reynir isn't stupid. he's an idealist, not always in helpful ways, and he trusts his instincts more than perhaps he should. except they tend to steer him not to the worst possible ends. his instincts got him here to Recolle! this has been one of the biggest, best experiences of his life. getting off the farm (he loves his parents, and his siblings, but he wanted exciting adventures like they had for himself, too! there's such a big world out there, and a little... major allergic reaction to peanuts wasn't going to stop him! ... so there!) and into the city has been one adventure after another.

except now he's staring at his phone and feeling like a fool because he has no idea how to answer the questions it keeps asking. he is, however, getting really familiar with the uplifting message retrospec plays after every incorrect answer. which may be why he's sitting on the steps of the library, singing: )

[ Um, Emil was pretty sure there was supposed to be a prize involved in all this, but then they shoved him around and shouted some words past his head and pressed a clipboard and some notes to his chest, and he sits down with Reynir and feels like he's in a dream with how jarring that sudden transition was. ]

[ What job interview? They kept mentioning something but why is he conducting this interview, he has zero qualifications to... ]

[ honestly speaking, Elliot didn’t like school at all. it had felt useless to him, and it was somewhat a miracle he even graduated highschool. it was mostly thanks to his older brother’s stern look that made Elliot at least attend class enough to not be dropped, and scraped by with his grades.

so he really had no plans of stepping a foot in a school again. but, whether it was his usual curiosity or a sliver of regret over taking his education lightly, Elliot had come around to take a look at the university. but… ]

I-Is this what all universities are like? [ because he had definitely not heard about this sorta of thing happening in his hometown. maybe this was the so called “entrance exams”? anyway, he really didn’t fancy falling to what may be death. it seemed the only thing was to start trying to remember every word possible ] Uhh… S-N-A-R-K… that’s a word right?

[ all he wanted was to just buy some cupcakes??? how did that turn into some sort of deathtrap domino?! the moment the buildings had started to tip over, Elliot had already begun running away. of course it was just his luck that he had run toward the path of the boulder. and having graduated from Prometheus School of Running Away From Things not thought about running into a store, Elliot had been chased right into the cage ]

Dammit, what the hell!? What's the point of all this! [ after few minutes of kicking at the cage bars, he flops down with a dramatic sigh before opening his box of cupcakes. at least he wouldn’t be going hungry as he waited to be rescued ]

[ yusuke had tried the wheel on a whim, unsure of what to expect once he landed on a 2, but getting ushered into a building for a job wasn't one of them. the offered position of competitive eater is, admittedly, not something he'd mind doing but he unfortunately lacks the necessary qualifications. he didn't know being a competitive eater required many qualifications aside from having a healthy appetite, honestly. ]

I don't have a dragon, but I can assure you that I'm more than capable of participating in a seafood eating contest on my own.

[ building a bridge with words was not something he had planned for when he decided to sign up for the university campus tour to check out the art department. but it doesn't really look like he's got a choice, so whatever, he takes his stack of letters and looks through them. not a lot he can make with these, but he'll deal. ]

Excuse me. [ or he can approach the person closest to him and attempt to get their attention. ] Would you like to trade some letters with me? I'm trying to spell "chiaroscuro" and I'm missing another "o".

regardless, there are worst ways of spending his time. so occasionally, you might hear rick astley playing in the background while yusuke is people watching, sketchbook open and forgotten on the bench next to him. it's open to a page of a half-finished drawing, which may or may not be of you. ]

Upon realising that the glare is unprecedented, she relaxes a bit then looks back at the tiles again. ]

Recruiters are Annoying

He hadn't spun the wheel, mainly because it looked like a really stupid idea. And he had things to do today that didn't involve wasting time on some game.

So when he headed for his dojo and got accosted by lots of people congratulating him on his willpower, he had to sigh and scowl a little. It wouldn't be a good idea to outright yell at them, though, so he just pinched the bridge of his nose and tried to push his way past.

"Look, thanks. But I have a job I'm late to, so if you could let me by that'd be great."

They didn't seem too keen on that idea, though, and Kurogane found himself standing in the middle of a bunch of them looking for an escape.

Jail

Being caged wasn't something he appreciated. In fact, he rather hated it. The state of this jail didn't really do anything to soften that, so when he was thrown in with some of the others who'd been found guilty, he decided he might as well yell about it because it was so ridiculous.

"I didn't even see the damn thing, why would I want to steal it? What possible benefit would taking the mayor's chocobo have on my life? This is stupid."

Yeah, his cellmates probably weren't any more appreciative of his yelling than he was of being there.

Fai probably should have known by now that when the city was going crazy like this, it was best just to stay home altogether and let things sort themselves out. Venturing out into the city during one of these times meant things like getting attacked by giant spiders and nearly getting lured into the woods by strange music for some unknown (but probably sinister) purpose.

But, well. Sales.

Shopping and overpriced coffee had lured Fai out of his apartment, and the blond was currently strolling through the streets of Tisse with a bag on one arm and said overpriced coffee (iced and doused in chocolate and caramel syrup) in the opposite hand. Oh, and he was in drag. Because shopping on a hot day clearly called for going out in a cute skirt and strappy sandals with his hair piled up in a set of cute clips, right? But he was also wearing his big Audrey Hepburn sunglasses, so there was no chance of anyone recognizing him like this. His beloved job and personal safety should be totally... er. Safe.

A commotion from some distance away, maybe the next block over, caught Fai's attention. Whatever was going on over there, it sounded unpleasant. Chaotic. But this little pocket of the shopping district was still nice and normal, so Fai shrugged and started walking again. And walked right into a wall.

Or, rather, a very tall, very solid man that Fai hadn't even realized was there. Thankfully his coffee didn't spill on the man or Fai would have had to be mortified. He opened his mouth to apologize, and tipped his sunglasses down on his nose a little to get a better look at the man.

And looked up. And up. And kind of forgot to actually spit the apology out.
