TEST DRIVE

APRIL TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé. A beautiful city you've called home for quite some time. While things can be a little weird, isn't that true of all homes? It's fully spring now, and there are flowers to be found everywhere. April's showers are a familiarity as well, the occasional downpour or drizzle keeping you on your toes. What will you do today? I. April showers bring May flowers, right? Well, there are already plenty of flowers to be had, but that part of the old rhyme being true doesn't save you from the first part of it. While the weather forecasters do their best, their success rate for predicting the rain seems to be about fifty-fifty. Unfortunately, sometimes when they do predict the rain happening, they misjudge how bad it's going to be. Was the sky was clear when you last looked outside? It may not be quite so clear now. Hope you remembered to bring an umbrella today. But it's not so bad, really! Maybe if you forgot to prepare, someone will share their umbrella with you. Not in the mood to talk to anyone? You can probably find some thrifty umbrella vendors on the streets of Tisse. When in doubt, there are always some loaner umbrellas scattered around in Apprassage at the Recollé Library as well. The library asks that you return any of the mismatched loaners found at the door, but it's not like the system is that strongly enforced. Well, other than the library stamp on the umbrellas, that is. If you find yourself in Chata today, you could always buy a magazine off the street corners to hold overhead. If you look like you may buy something, vendors don't seem to mind if you idle under their awnings. Check out the latest fashions coming this spring while you wait it out. It looks like buckles are in, but some of the high fashion clothes look a little odder than usual. The hot, new dresses range from large like a billowing tarp to appearing more like an artfully arranged handkerchief than anything else. Fashion sure is weird sometimes. II. Recollé Square in Tribunal Terrace boasts a huge assortment of flower gardens scattered throughout the district, though they all appear to be whatever citizens felt like planting at the time. In fact, only flowers in Apprassage seem to match, especially around the University. Today, while the rain's stopped, a large group of people seem to be taking advantage of Recollé Square's mismatching for flower picking, crown and wreath weaving, and bouquet arranging. The activities seem to be loosely led by the city's PTA and some of the other socialite groups from around town. Then again, for long-standing citizens of the city this isn't unusual either. You seem to remember that this is an annual sort of thing even though there isn't actually a name for the event. Some booths are set up around the park to swap seeds, flowers and food for cash or gossip, the guidelines a little more loose outside of the business districts. It seems as though lot of families are picnicking this weekend. There's even some kind of contest going on for the best flower crown - though usually the city tends to collectively pick a kid for the winner, so your best artistic talents might not get you the admiration you crave. In addition, there's the most accurately judged flower-growing contest if you've been waiting for this day for a year or more, but that event tends to have the same people involved every year and the majority of Recollé isn't too heavily invested in it. They're here for the picnics and flower crowns, and it seems about the same as it always does. This year, though, there do seem to be more flowers than ever...and for that matter, they're a lot bigger than usual, too. III. Despite some of the fashion fiascos the magazines are displaying, maybe you should spend some time shopping this week. It may come as a surprise to you that your clothes haven't been fitting properly as of late. Those skinny jeans are just a hair too loose, and your favorite shirt seems baggier than it used to be. The problem, however, is that every shop you go to seems to stock clothes with the same issues. You're down a size or two or three, or maybe they're just marking everything down wrong. And surely you don't have the time or money to replace your entire wardrobe...will you take your chances? Complain to the store's manager? Or maybe you're an unfortunate soul who has to try and explain the unexplainable. Maybe offering a coupon will appease shoppers today. IV. Apparently walking around your neighborhood isn't quite as safe as it used to be - or it isn't safe if you want to trust your eyes. One second the little old lady who lives at the corner appears to be walking her pitbull just as she has every day for the last several years. The next, the pitbull is gone and she's walking a rather angry-looking caterpillar. Blink and you'll miss it, but as time goes on you'll see more and more of these larger-than-life insects wandering around. No matter how hard you try to explain it, the only other people who seem to see this as the least bit weird are people with the Retrospec app. Oh, do you not have the Retrospec app? Think again. The sound of chirping crickets will follow you until the next time you look at your mobile device or a public computer, prompting you to accept a profile and upload a user picture. Congratulations! It seems as though you've been selected to be a new tester! ...it's going to be one of those days. BONUS. While the Retrospec app only infrequently has posts from the company itself - and those have thus far proven to be universally useless - this month there is an onslaught of updates. At least once per day there's a picture of a new type of flower or insect, along with a "fun fact" about whatever the company has posted. Did you know, for example, that wasps feeding on fermenting juice have been known to get "drunk' and pass out? Ancient civilizations burned aster leaves to ward off evil spirits. Ticks can grow from the size of a grain of rice to the size of a marble. Roses are related to apples, raspberries, cherries, peaches, plums, nectarines, pears and almonds. Houseflies find sugar with their feet, which are 10 million times more sensitive than human tongues. Praying mantises prey on other insects, and perhaps you'd better watch your step. Wait, what? As usual, any attempt to get the company to reply about the increasingly disturbing information they're sending out is useless. The daily facts grow less and less useful and eventually seem to be nothing but fun facts about how flowers and bugs could kill you or one another. Kind of unfortunate for you, if this is your first time getting any messages whatsoever from the app. How do you unsubscribe? Good luck figuring it out. Welcome to the recolle test drive meme! [ I : RAINING CATS AND DOGS ]

[Baren's always been good with animals. It would seem that this doesn't change given the weather.

Which is why he's managed to lift an umbrella from somewhere (hopefully not... yours) and is using it to get around town... with a small following. Damp stray cats approach Baren to get out of the rain and climb up to his shoulders, a few dogs following suit and shaking themselves dry in the small space under the umbrella - only earning a small eyebrow raise from Baren before he shakes his head. Funny, coming from a guy who normally raises a fuss at anyone who even so much as scuffs his shoes.

When he passes by you, caught out in the rain, his reaction depends. For men, he laughs. Meanly. And he keeps walking with his little pet parade brushing against his legs. Truly a shithead. For women, he seems to ignore them entirely - up until they walk a few steps past him and then he pauses, glancing back over his shoulder with a pensive look. Whether or not he takes time out of his day to help appears to be based on how far the lady in question might be from her destination.

Or you can catch him in the entrance of some alleyway, lowering himself down to the ground to get a look at something... underneath the dumpster? The answer becomes apparent as a small dog comes rushing out to Baren as if the model was his owner, leaping into his arms - a dirty, furry, wet dog smelly mess. To which he just seems to crack up.]

Ha! You're a smelly little shit, aren't you!

[ II : A THORN IN MY SIDE ]

Hey! You!

[Whether you know him or not, Baren seems to be calling out to you? Here he is, perched on some picnic table, making a waving motion to call you over (not unlike a dog). If you caught him earlier, there might've been a little girl or boy sitting on the actual bench part, having asked Baren to either a ) help them make flower crowns or b ) tell them gross plant facts. (He did both.)

Yet it seems like he still has bundles of flowers next to him, so what's he gonna do with those? He smiles. So innocently.]

Let me do your hair.

[ . . . well. To be honest. Today his own hair is especially floral and glitzy. Maybe you're in good hands?

[ WILDCARD A : PAINT THE TOWN RED ]

[So here's the thing: Baren's a model. Whether you love him or hate him, there's no doubt that you see him. In magazines. On runways. Or like today, on some of the posters or billboards posted around town.

Considering his willingness to be half-dressed, the "billowing tarps" of fashion still look fine on him, artfully arranged as he lounges on some ornate couch still looking like the king of the world. He's plastered somewhere on the Recollé skyline, image blown up for everyone to see - but if anyone catches it, it would appear that someone has graffiti'd bright red devil horns on the billboard. Odd. Who could the culprit be?]

My agent is going to kill me.... ♪

[It's the perfect crime. .... except that it's not? Here's Baren, humming along one of the busy streets in Chata. His posters line the street and here he is with a paint pen and an artistic vision. This Baren poster gets a crown. This Baren poster gets a halo. This Baren poster gets a devil's tail.

He's doodling on his own face and seems to crack up as he goes along. Some other poor models might have posters up that have also gotten ever so gently defaced (hope you enjoy your unibrow or new shoujo flower background!) but Baren's still chuckling at his own stupid joke.]

[ WILDCARD B : DEAL OR NO DEAL ]

[You were probably walking along. Minding your own business. And then there was the sound of falling cloth, a roaring laugh, and then everything went black.]

Nice catch!

[Yes, you caught it with your face. But it would appear that there's something draped over you - something silky, big, and... once you get it off your head, it looks like one of those new fashion garments that's hitting the stores soon? The voice speaks up again and you'll find Baren leaning out a second floor window, grin beckoning and eyes shining with mischief.]

Hey, we're gonna play a game. It's easy, just answer a question. If you get it right, then that [he points lazily down to the cloth in your hands] designer poncho that starts at aboooout 300 bucks is yours.

[Chuuya is one of those unlucky people caught without an umbrella, even though he swears he had it a while ago... it was either go get wet or be stuck away from his apartment, though, so he's chosen to just go for it, shooting Baren an annoyed look at that laughter. Yeah, yeah, laugh it up, jerk, he knows. He expects no less, honestly.

...but then he stops. Stares after him for a second.

[Cherche is right in the middle of all the action in Recolle square today. She volunteered to help organize the flower festival and she always takes this sort of thing very seriously.

Do you need a hand getting your booth set up? Not sure where to find the food stands? Need some help assembling a flower crown? Cherche is right there with a bright smile.]

[Or maybe you're just at the flower festival cause you're bored and it doesn't seem like you need any help. Or have anything to do. In that case, here she is with a large box that looks awfully heavy.]

[Her tone suggests it might not be a request so much as an expectation.]

[It's not unusual for Cherche to show up at the station to see how all the officers are doing. She did this regularly when her husband was alive and now her oldest son is following in his father's footsteps. And as usual, she's brought food. In this case a tray of lasagna and an apple cake.

She's already invited herself into the break room where she's currently cleaning the coffee pot.]

Honestly do you boys ever clean in here?

[The question is practically rhetorical. She asks that almost every time. Honestly she doesn't mind doing this at all.]

I; the one where you're shanghaied into helping her;

[Rosalind Lutece has a dilemma.

It's raining. It's pouring, actually, the kind of rain you're guaranteed to get drenched in, no matter what preventative measures you might take. Oh, an umbrella would surely mitigate that blow, but as she doesn't even that, it's not worth considering. And yet she has a class in about half an hour, and she can't very well skip it, being the person who's supposed to teach it.

Thus: the dilemma. She's got to get across Apprassage in half an hour, preferably without looking as if she's just stepped out of the shower.

Rosalind grimaces, glancing out from the library's doorway with a little scowl on her face. This is going to require socializing, and while she's not necessarily opposed to that, she hardly likes doing it in dire circumstances.

Still. Needs must, and to that end, she tugs out her cell phone. Perhaps you're a friend (or, worse, a luckless student) she's just texted, calling for aid; perhaps you're simply walking by with a large umbrella, and about to be shouted towards. Either way, Rosalind seems determined to get to the university without getting soaked, no matter what methods she has to employ in order to do so.]

Oye! Excuse me!

III; the one where she's pissed about clothes;

[This is ridiculous.

It's ridiculous. She's not a particularly difficult woman to fit; she doesn't ask much from her clothes. All she wants is something simple and practical: a black dress, something that fits without being too clingy or too loose. One would think that would be easy to find, but this is the third store she's exiting.

Or, well. Striding from, really, in a manner that suggests it might become storming if someone gets in her way. It isn't the shopkeep's fault, which is why she'd bitten her tongue when the poor young woman had told her they didn't have her size. But for god's sake, she hasn't anything to wear: everything she'd donned this morning was either too tight or too loose, both entirely inappropriate for daily wear.]

IV; the one where she's a professor;

[For all she's a brilliant professor, Rosalind does tend to go a little fast.

It's not that she's opposed to answering questions, no, not in the least. Anytime someone raises their hand, Rosalind is perfectly willing to go over whatever concept they're having trouble with. But despite the fact she's supposedly teaching some intro courses, one probably oughtn't take a class from Dr. Lutece unless they've a solid grasp on science. Rosalind lectures as if everyone in the room already has a decent grasp of things, moving through lessons as though she's explaining familiar concepts to people who simply need a refresher. It's really not fair, but she's only been teaching for about a year, so cut her some slack.

Still. There's a reason she has extended office hours, because there's an awful lot of students who come in needing a bit of extra help. Catch her in her office, or just come up to her after class: the professor is in, y'all.]

BONUS; the one where she's texting;

I'd like to think this doesn't need to be said, but as most of the general population tends to believe the first thing they read: I hope you're all quite aware most of these facts aren't accurate. There's obviously quite a few plants and animals that can kill you, but please don't everyone start running around in terror the next time they happen to see a wasp.

[Katherine is a girl that's got a lot going on at any given moment. There's a schedule she has to stick to, and assignments that have to be done on time and properly! Which means that as the skies erupt in their sudden downpour, there is a very distraught-looking young woman standing at the doors of the Recollé Library, looking at the skies and the rain while holding a large stack of folios in her arms. Each one is painstakingly labeled and all the documents inside are secured in case they were to fall, but still... the water would soak through the cardstock covers in an instant. She'll never make it from here to her car without ruining the top layer of everything she's been researching here!]

Oh, no... not today!

[Are you a good Samaritan willing to walk a poor college student to her car? Or do you see her crouching, trying to pick up one of the "loaner" umbrellas from its place in a cubby near the floor? Careful! That pile isn't exactly stable and it looks like it might fall at any moment...]

[She's been working too hard. Her guidance counselor even warned her about this, that the workload she's set for herself this semester might prove difficult as the semester continues on, but Katherine certainly didn't expect it to manifest itself by way of hallucinations! Because one moment she's watching Dr. Keller from down the street running through the park with his golden retriever, just the same way he's done for as long as she's been alive, but between one breath and the next it's no longer a dog but a cricket that's hopping alongside him, rubbing its limbs together to chirrup as it hops.

Katherine's just going to head up to the nearest person, reaching out to get their attention.]

Excuse me! I'm sorry, but... do you notice anything strange about Dr. Keller's dog today? It looks like she's running a bit strangely.

[First crickets loping through the park alongside a master and now crickets chirping from her phone? She almost can't even bear to look and see what's going on now. But phones are meant to be silent, and so Katherine's pulling out her phone, her brow furrowing in surprise and bemusement when she sees that somehow, some new social media network's downloaded itself to her phone.]

Retrospec?

[She'll try a couple of things first to try and rid herself of the app, but it becomes pretty quickly apparent that no matter what she does, it's always going to come back. She frowns, suspicious, before snapping a quick photo of something (or someone) nearby to set as the profile picture until she can get this sorted out. And then--]

Wait, how did it already know my name? Is this app skimming data somehow off of my phone?

[Oh, just wait until her father learns about this. Katherine's shaking her head; some poor app developer is going to have a very bad day very soon.]

[Beyond the university, the library is practically Rosalind's second home, because of course it is. A large research section and endless books on all kinds of topics: why on earth would she ever want to leave? Really, the only reason she heads home at all is that the library closes at ten.

. . . well, that and you can't bring in food. A girl's got to eat.

Anyway. The point being: Rosalind is very nearly always at the library, and she certainly is now. She's just heading out, actually, a large umbrella at her side, when she spots a familiar figure edging towards the Island of the Misfit Umbrellas.]

Katherine.

[She ducks her head, trying to catch her eye. Her tone is a little stiff, if only because she's still not quite used to her cousin, but friendly enough.]

Are you quite all right?

[It's late afternoon, and all of his appointments are done for the day. It's a good thing too, because Fai very definitely forgot his umbrella this morning. It was clear when he left the apartment! He dashes down the sidewalk under a tented newspaper held above his head, hoping to catch the taxi parked at the curb not far away. Except there's a young lady also making a break for the same taxi. If it weren't such horrid weather he'd probably just let her have it, but he's almost soaked through as it is, and his newspaper won't hold out much longer.]

Excuse me, miss! Can we share?

[She doesn't even notice he's there through the driving rain--or if she does, she makes no indication. The young lady dives into the back seat of the taxi and soon there are only taillights in his vision. Fai sighs.

And then sucks in a breath as a passing car kicks up a torrent of cold water and drenches him completely.

It's really not his day.]

ii | FLOWER CROWNS;

[There is a grown-ass man, a six-foot-tall grown ass man no less, sitting cross-legged in the grass with a small gaggle of teenage girls clustered around him, and they're all making flower crowns and laughing like they're old friends. Never mind that he won't win the competition for Best Flower Crown. Sometimes you just have to stop and play with flowers.

He's already wearing a crown of pink flowers himself, so this next crown has to go to someone else. He unfolds his lanky body from the grass and bounds over to someone nearby, presenting the crown as if it's a well-earned trophy and grinning like a dork.]

[Fai's curled up in a booth by himself, a half-empty, syrupy-sweet iced coffee and a sugar-laden pastry in front of him on the table. He's not paying attention to that, however--he's in the process of digging through his messenger bag for... something.

A textbook on clinical psychology goes on the table, followed by a small stack of case files. A sudoku book. A dog-eared, trashy romance novel. A sheet of gold star stickers. A kazoo. A sparkly pen with a tuft of pink feathers on the end. A bag of hard candies. A Chinese finger trap. The list of oddities coming out of this bag seems never-ending. The blond is clearly not paying attention to much else at the moment, so feel free to sneak up on him, or not, as you prefer.]

[A skinny figure approaches, in messy pigtails and loose-fitting clothing apparently unearthed from wherever colorblind hippies go to die. He's balancing another drink of the "liquid candy" variety and a huge chocolate meringue on a tray, trying not to get his bag stuck on every chair on his course through the café.

He stops and hesitates a bit a little ways a way from the other man, but then walks up with a wide smile and a small wave, shifting the tray so he can hold it with one arm.]

Fiacre Lachance, is that right? [He's already prodding at Fai's belongings like a weirdo, running his fingers over those pink feathers and tilting his head to read the cover of the romance novel. Why.]

Jack Frost | Rise of the Guardians | "Jackson 'Jack' Overland"

Jack stood beneath an awning, his sweater positively soaked through. It at least saved him until he found some shelter, but he was too wet to really get into any stores or coffee shops nor did he really have any money on him to buy an umbrella. With the cooler weather from the winter, his hours had been cut so most of his money either went to his savings or helping his dad with things around the house. He certainly didn't mind, but now he was wishing he at least remembered to bring some cash when running out today. At least the rest of him wasn't as soaked through as his sweatshirt.

He'd wrung out his sweatshirt the best he could, the light blue now darker with the moisture. He tied the garment around his waist and dug his hands into his jeans pockets, blue shoes lightly rubbing against each other as he leaned against the wall, watching the rain fall and wondering when it would let up long enough for him to get back home. "Why did I even come out here anyway?"

"C'mon guys, there's enough for everyone," He laughed, easing the tension between the children as they fought over the flowers to make the best flower crown ever. "There's a lot more this year, so just make whatever you want, alright?"

They nodded and continued to weave their crowns, finally ending the argument over who got which flower. Jack sighed a little in relief, pushing himself up and brushing off his pants. "I'll be right back with some more, just gotta check on the others."

He turned to head over to the flower carts, going a bit too fast and suddenly bumping into someone. "Oh! Sorry about that, you okay?"

Bonus/Wildcard

Jack was practically standing in the middle of the sidewalk, probably in front of a store entrance, as all these messages popped up after downloading that stupid app that would not shut up. He had a profile and everything now. This is not what he signed up for though. Messages that hinted he might get hurt or worse? What

To be fair, he didn't really voluntarily sign up for the app in general but still. "This is some Final Destination crap, I can't-," He muttered, finally realizing just where he was and stepping out of the way just in time to not bump into whomever was nearby. He couldn't decide if he needed to call his dad or not about this. Maybe he could ignore his phone somehow.

"Sorry," He said to whomever nearly ran into him, although he didn't sound at all like he meant it.

Flowers spill all over the ground from Mafuyu's arms, petals ending up in her hair, and some in her mouth that she has to spit out before she can throw the rest of her flowers to the ground and rudely shove Jack right back with both hands against his chest. Only then does she snap back, "Watch where you're going!" because apologies aren't enough.

[1 : April Showers]

[Reigen is rarely prepared, but he's taken simply to wearing a rain coat even on sunny days. It's easier to just pull up your hood if it starts sprinkling.

But then comes the issue of walking the dog... his poor pup had to be held in his coat a few times, but now he's got her a doggy raincoat... the umbrella in his hand is pretty much only for his son's sake, since he's likely going to pick him up from school.]

[2 : Way too many flowers]

[Reigen actually has a stand set up... there's a small plaque on his fold-out table that has "Dr. Reigen" on it, and he's got an array of pills, salves and drops on display with a big Free Samples sign taped to it.]

Want a more natural remedy for pollen allergies? I've got a couple of options here, really mild, entirely natural, they might do the trick with none of the frustrating side effects!

[He waves the sniffliest people over, especially, smiling as friendly as he can. Which is pretty friendly.]

[4 : In Which Reigen Nopes Harder Than Anyone Else]

[The dog walking route is normally pretty peaceful. Even with the rain ending up pretty frustrating, on the sunny days, it's actually quite nice. Reigen usually walks by the same neighbors on the dog walk, and when he rounds a corner and gets ready to wave at Danny and his chihuahua, he absolutely is not expecting to see a nightmare manifested right in fRONT OF HIM--

Letting out an unflattering shriek, Reigen grabs his dog and jumps at the same time, sending him and his pooch hurdling down the hill. Or rather, the dog manages to hop out of his grasp and just run down the hill as the doctor slides and rolls down it, the man scrambling onto hands and knees when momentum finally stops.]

H-horrible... roaches are terrifying...!!

[He can't even handle it, he's still shaken from the encounter...]

[BONUS: This is Hell]

[After that, Reigen's particularly upset about the messages on his phone. He's been sweating profusely, and cursing at it, desperately trying to delete the damn app or block the number or something.]

[You know who's definitely not concerned about the rain today? Your friendly neighborhood graduate assistant Kit "Kurama" Fawkes, that's who. Naturally he's come well prepared for the possibility of rain today; he's always been the kind of guy who once had Murphy's Law explained to him and proceeded to look Murphy dead in the eyes with a "not today, mother[badword]."

He's always been that way, come to think of it. Kind of a strange habit to be in, but it's just one of those things he must've picked up...somewhere. Always plan for every eventuality! At least one of them is guaranteed to come true.

And today, it happens that rain is that eventuality, but if you're stranded without an umbrella and somewhere on the campus of Recolle University today, you might just be in luck! Mr. Fawkes has a habit of planning ahead for not one but two, you see, and to that end he's actually two umbrellas with him, as well. Maybe if you look in deep distress he'll loan you one?

On the other hand, if he's already handed out his spare to its intended recipient, you might just end up having to ask to share the umbrella with this hotass GA...

II — Flower Power Is The Talk Of The Hour

[So guess who's taking a rare day off of school work and absolutely loving these flower festival shenanigans? THIS GUY. Seriously, it's almost like something like this was made for him...

So if you happen to be passing through The Square, you might just see Mr. Fawkes methodically assembling a series of flower crowns and wreaths. Seems like he's being pretty meticulous about which types of flowers he chooses and why — sometimes even going out of his way to hunt around until he finds precisely the variety he wants before incorporating it into his work.

(Coincidentally, he's also got the stem of a camellia stuck through the elastic that's holding his long red hair back in a ponytail, making the full pink blossom sit right at the nape of his neck. It clashes hideously. Who thought this was a good idea?)

You might want to stop and say hello, though — maybe he'll make you a flower crown of your own!]

The catch is, of course, if you can really risk the embarrassment of being caught under this umbrella. The girl under it doesn't seem to mind at all, but she's not really paying attention to anyone else around her, so you'll have to get her attention to even try to get under it.

[Cleo has noted her clothes suddenly not fitting, so needs to try to get new clothes to look professional. Unfortunately, she has a bigger concern.]

[And so, in order to test this, she's going to try to check her strength... by trying to pick up one of the clothing racks. Someone really should have bolted those to the floor, because she's managing it fine. On the other hand, this is something of a spectacle, isn't it?]

[An app on her phone that suddenly prompts her to make a profile? She knows she didn't install it. And, well, it's suspicious as hell. So rather than test it right away, no matter how annoying the crickets get, she's going to approach the first person she sees on the street to ask.]

[Shuji knows, definitely, completely, without a doubt, that this shouldn't be happening.

He weighs himself regularly. His clothes all fit right, or close to right - the easiest way to look terrible in any outfit is for it to be poorly fitted. It doesn't matter how well-coordinated the pieces are, it won't look good if it isn't his size.

So there's no way that he could suddenly find that his clothes aren't fitting right. He hasn't had any large weight gain or weight loss recently. And if some of his shirts are too baggy and some of them are too tight - there's no way, right? It's impossible, right??

But, impossible or not, the fact remains that Shuji can't be seen by others in poorly-fitting clothes. He pulls together the most acceptable outfit he can and goes shopping for replacements.

At least three stores and perhaps a dozen increasingly frustrated trips to the changing rooms later, Shuji has had enough. He bursts out of the changing room with the latest of not-quite-right clothing and starts to wail.]

It's impossible! It's impossible that nothing in this city fits me! I don't even have an unusual body shape so there's no way that I can't find a single pair of pants that fit right! I'll be doomed to wear a potato sack for the rest of my life...!

How many times do I have to tell you? I've been through four shops for the past half hour, and they all don't have my sizes. Do you really expect me to believe that every article of clothing on sale right now is shrinking? This is so annoying!

("it's for business!" -- a great excuse to get away with all kinds of embarrassing things, incidentally.) the flowers have kind of infected everyone's moods, and they do seem way bigger and maybe like there are way more than usual. it only seems right to get in the spirit of things. besides, the guys & gals back at work would appreciate flower crowns, right?

If there was one thing Sora had not expected today, it was rain. When he'd left for school, the sun had been shining, not a cloud in the sky, and the weather channel had said it was supposed to stay that way for the next three days. Well, that just goes to show you shouldn't believe everything on TV, doesn't it, because by the time school had let out, it was a veritable downpour.

Sora stands at the front entrance to the school for a long while, soccer bag slung over one shoulder, and watches the rain. Not for the first time, he wishes he lived a little closer than the fifteen minute walk to and from school, or that at the very least his mom would come and give him a ride. She probably hadn't even realized his practice was cancelled.

Seeing as it doesn't look like it's going to let up anytime soon, he's just about ready to test his luck and make a break for it when someone comes up beside him, diverting his attention.

"Uh, some weather, huh? Hehe."

IV. I didn't download this app, but it's way more interesting than Facebook

Sora swears he's been seeing things all day. First, there was a massive butterfly, just hanging out outside his house when he left that morning. It flew away pretty quickly, so he'd just chalked it up to a really weird bird and left it at that.

He'd started to rethink that, though, when a tarantula the size of a large cat was seen snoozing in the spot where the family down the street's cat usually sat. Sora had stopped and stared at it for a while, rubbing at his eyes like he was seeing things, but it was still there. Just sitting.

Now, Sora loved animals. He even didn't mind the occasional bug or two, as long as they weren't bothersome. But this... this was a little ridiculous.

Standing in the middle of the sidewalk, he pulled out his phone, just to take a picture of the thing for later, when a notification popped up on his phone that 'Retrospec has been successfully downloaded'. He... hadn't downloaded that. Had he?

It is, for the first time in a week, not raining, and Sora is absolutely delighted. The sky is clear, though there is an air of 'probably going to rain tonight' around, and Sora deigns to enjoy the weather while he can. The sidewalk is still damp and covered in puddles, and he takes great delight in stepping in every single one he comes across on his way home. To an outsider, he probably looks even younger than he actually is, acting more like a child than a nearly-grown teenager.

He doesn't even notice the person coming around the corner until they collide.

"Oops, sorry!" he apologizes, snapping back to reality. "Are you okay?"

[ She's decided to do one of her favorite things today—shopping. Usually she enjoys it, but today... something seems a little off about all of the clothes, no matter what store she goes into. Nothing has caught her eye enough for her to try it on yet, so all she can do is guess.

Are the measurements off? It's a bit odd for it to be like that in every store, though. After examining a shirt that she's sure is marked the wrong size, she'll turn to her shopping partner or whoever happens to be nearby. ]

Yes, it is just as dangerous as a normal wasp, if not more because it's huge and can probably sting your entire head and you'd die. It's probably for the best to leave it alone but nope, Frank's dog thinks otherwise. It's an intruder and it must be dealt with!! ]

[ So, anyone walking down this normally peaceful neighbourhood is greeted with an insane amount of barking as Jellybean (that's the dog's name) tries to get free of her leash (let her at it!!! she's going to FIGHT THAT THING!!!). Obviously, Frank is not going to let his dog fight this insect from hell, so he has the task of holding her back. ]

Christ, calm down already!

[ Please help this angry man by helping him hold onto Jellybean's leash, help him pick up the dog, or help him by punching the wasp in the face. If his dog can't calm down and this wasp is true to its aggressive nature, yes, Frank Castle is going to punch a giant angry yellow inspect with his bare fists. You can help him fight it and then put that on your resume or something. It'd be Great. ]

[ Frank has already done the basic approach to Retrospec: uninstalling it, getting angry, continuing to try and uninstall it, shutting off his phone, go on the computer for help, see it on his computer, and then repeat actions 1 to 5 again before he finally decides to give up. After he gets that all out of his system and probably posts some 'what the fuck is this' messages to the app, he actually posts something decent. ]

Or he would, if he hadn't already lent his out to someone who looked like they needed it a lot more than him. Who falls under that category? Literally anyone, he's just that kind of guy. Now he's stuck standing outside a closed newsstand, trying to avoid the wet, freezing wind, courtesy of the financial districts' many tall buildings. ]

With a clipboard in hand and a team of possibly middle-aged housewives surrounding him, he actually seems pretty committed to scoring these things fairly. He takes notes, asks questions, even hands out tissues when some of the judges start sneezing from all the pollen.

I mean, he still looks kind of out of place, but you can't say he's not committed. ]

[ God. He's sure that the weather channel said it would be clear skies today, a perfect day to get groceries and run errands. The bakery is in dire need of a restock, but their shipments have been prolonged more than anticipated... So here is Takumi, waiting under the awning of a station entrance. His expression looks exasperated as he slides his hands into his pockets, watching the rain pitter-patter like paint drying on the wall.

The atmosphere is gloomy on one hand yet annoyed on the other. He can't help but scowl... Note to self, always bring an umbrella no matter what the weather channel says. He stands there for some time, debilitating over the thought of asking someone for assistance. Even at this age, he suffers from social anxiety to some degree.

Finally, he bites the bullet. He reaches out to whoever passes by him next with a simple inquiry, though a little soft-spoken. ]

Hey, can you help me out?

[ He's an actual poor college student, in the flesh. ]

I-B. RAINING CATS AND DOGS

[ So... He learned his lesson earlier that week. This time he brings and umbrella though it's clear skies this morning. Hogetsu is up and running with just Takumi opening and closing today, allowing his mother to rest in the break room. The rest of his family is busy with school or work, so... Whatever. It's fine! He can man the bakery and cater to as many customers that flood in.

... Except they aren't flooding it, that's the rain. Just his luck, the weather goes bad in broad daylight in a split second. There's a groan as the shower glum washes over the building. Whatever customers inside decide to stay, but it'll be difficult to reach quota today. They'll have to toss away all their pastries after, too. Thinking on his feet, he puts a sign up at the front of the store:

II. FLOWER CROWNS OUT OF THE BOX

[ So... Takumi has been dragged by the kids he knows from his internship to help make flower crowns. He's definitely not an expert at this, but he's doing this best to be a meticulous about it. You see, as a kid, being the best and doing your best is really important to one's growing self-esteem. However!! Encouragement and reassuring words also help. The toddlers are pretty excited, already jumping at picking out colors alone. It's difficult to calm them down and get them all seated--in a circle, by the way.

Yes. He's the only adult in this circle of children, weaving flower crowns like this is a workshop. Of course these kids won't be letting him do this on his own. With big eyes, these little demons will hold onto an unassuming victim's hand and brings them here.

Company actually brings his solace, but he gives them an apologetic look once they get here. ]

Sorry about that. They're just really excited to show off what they've made.

IV. HE'S ACTUALLY SCARED OF BUGS

As one of Takumi's louder customers, Yata barges into the bakery like a storm as he complains about the weather in a usual Yata-like fashion. And by storm, I mean he is drenched. This means the only customer Takumi has right now is an angry wet dog in human form. ]

[Maybe it’s the amount of time he spends perfecting his outfit. Maybe it’s because his hair likes to frizz up in the most irritating way possible, but Zaveid hates the rain. He’s caught off-guard by the sudden downpour—the damn forecast had said scattered showers, not this monsoon, or whatever it is, causing trouble. He dashes for the nearest building, which just so happens to be the library.

It’s not like he has anywhere to be this time of day, but it’s still annoying. He flashes a quick, charming smile to the librarian, who doesn’t look very amused by his soaked clothes, but hey. At least he’ll dry off in here. He does look a little out of place in here, but at least the building is dry, and he does have a library card on him somewhere.

Still. He saunters over to the librarian.]

You wouldn’t happen to have one of those umbrellas on loan, would ya? Or any books on travel?

[He doesn’t know the first thing about flowers, but one thing Zaveid does know is that beautiful people tend to flock to this particular contest. Still, it’s the same sort of people year-round—and the girls who frequent this place all know his face by now, and his flirtatious ways, but hey. You never know, maybe he’ll get lucky this time around and score a date out of this.

It’s not until he catches sight of a rose bush with flowers the size of his head that he thinks anything of the flowers themselves.]

Are they… supposed to be that big? Or are they one of those weird hybrids?

[Day-to-day life is a lot more interesting when you establish yourself as being somewhat larger than life. Even if it’s not really all that true. It’s not like the average person cares about Zaveid’s bragging, but once in a while he doesn’t even need to exaggerate things, because that sure is the sweet old lady from down the street walking her—is that a horse or a beetle? God damn, that’s a big bug. A moment later, it’s back to being an overly large dog, but that’s enough to make him look around wildly for anyone nearby.

Once he’s spotted the person nearest to him, he just strolls on up, still looking baffled.]

Did you just see that too?

[He says, pointing to the perfectly ordinary sight of a woman walking her dog.]

If Jaeger knows anything about his employee, it's that Zaveid is very fond of flirting and this seems like the perfect time and place to do it. It actually takes Jaeger longer than he's care to admit to find Zaveid but when he does he slides up next to the other man like this isn't weird and speaks up.]
