TEST DRIVE

APRIL TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé. A beautiful city you've called home for quite some time. While things can be a little weird, isn't that true of all homes? It's fully spring now, and there are flowers to be found everywhere. April's showers are a familiarity as well, the occasional downpour or drizzle keeping you on your toes. What will you do today? I. April showers bring May flowers, right? Well, there are already plenty of flowers to be had, but that part of the old rhyme being true doesn't save you from the first part of it. While the weather forecasters do their best, their success rate for predicting the rain seems to be about fifty-fifty. Unfortunately, sometimes when they do predict the rain happening, they misjudge how bad it's going to be. Was the sky was clear when you last looked outside? It may not be quite so clear now. Hope you remembered to bring an umbrella today. But it's not so bad, really! Maybe if you forgot to prepare, someone will share their umbrella with you. Not in the mood to talk to anyone? You can probably find some thrifty umbrella vendors on the streets of Tisse. When in doubt, there are always some loaner umbrellas scattered around in Apprassage at the Recollé Library as well. The library asks that you return any of the mismatched loaners found at the door, but it's not like the system is that strongly enforced. Well, other than the library stamp on the umbrellas, that is. If you find yourself in Chata today, you could always buy a magazine off the street corners to hold overhead. If you look like you may buy something, vendors don't seem to mind if you idle under their awnings. Check out the latest fashions coming this spring while you wait it out. It looks like buckles are in, but some of the high fashion clothes look a little odder than usual. The hot, new dresses range from large like a billowing tarp to appearing more like an artfully arranged handkerchief than anything else. Fashion sure is weird sometimes. II. Recollé Square in Tribunal Terrace boasts a huge assortment of flower gardens scattered throughout the district, though they all appear to be whatever citizens felt like planting at the time. In fact, only flowers in Apprassage seem to match, especially around the University. Today, while the rain's stopped, a large group of people seem to be taking advantage of Recollé Square's mismatching for flower picking, crown and wreath weaving, and bouquet arranging. The activities seem to be loosely led by the city's PTA and some of the other socialite groups from around town. Then again, for long-standing citizens of the city this isn't unusual either. You seem to remember that this is an annual sort of thing even though there isn't actually a name for the event. Some booths are set up around the park to swap seeds, flowers and food for cash or gossip, the guidelines a little more loose outside of the business districts. It seems as though lot of families are picnicking this weekend. There's even some kind of contest going on for the best flower crown - though usually the city tends to collectively pick a kid for the winner, so your best artistic talents might not get you the admiration you crave. In addition, there's the most accurately judged flower-growing contest if you've been waiting for this day for a year or more, but that event tends to have the same people involved every year and the majority of Recollé isn't too heavily invested in it. They're here for the picnics and flower crowns, and it seems about the same as it always does. This year, though, there do seem to be more flowers than ever...and for that matter, they're a lot bigger than usual, too. III. Despite some of the fashion fiascos the magazines are displaying, maybe you should spend some time shopping this week. It may come as a surprise to you that your clothes haven't been fitting properly as of late. Those skinny jeans are just a hair too loose, and your favorite shirt seems baggier than it used to be. The problem, however, is that every shop you go to seems to stock clothes with the same issues. You're down a size or two or three, or maybe they're just marking everything down wrong. And surely you don't have the time or money to replace your entire wardrobe...will you take your chances? Complain to the store's manager? Or maybe you're an unfortunate soul who has to try and explain the unexplainable. Maybe offering a coupon will appease shoppers today. IV. Apparently walking around your neighborhood isn't quite as safe as it used to be - or it isn't safe if you want to trust your eyes. One second the little old lady who lives at the corner appears to be walking her pitbull just as she has every day for the last several years. The next, the pitbull is gone and she's walking a rather angry-looking caterpillar. Blink and you'll miss it, but as time goes on you'll see more and more of these larger-than-life insects wandering around. No matter how hard you try to explain it, the only other people who seem to see this as the least bit weird are people with the Retrospec app. Oh, do you not have the Retrospec app? Think again. The sound of chirping crickets will follow you until the next time you look at your mobile device or a public computer, prompting you to accept a profile and upload a user picture. Congratulations! It seems as though you've been selected to be a new tester! ...it's going to be one of those days. BONUS. While the Retrospec app only infrequently has posts from the company itself - and those have thus far proven to be universally useless - this month there is an onslaught of updates. At least once per day there's a picture of a new type of flower or insect, along with a "fun fact" about whatever the company has posted. Did you know, for example, that wasps feeding on fermenting juice have been known to get "drunk' and pass out? Ancient civilizations burned aster leaves to ward off evil spirits. Ticks can grow from the size of a grain of rice to the size of a marble. Roses are related to apples, raspberries, cherries, peaches, plums, nectarines, pears and almonds. Houseflies find sugar with their feet, which are 10 million times more sensitive than human tongues. Praying mantises prey on other insects, and perhaps you'd better watch your step. Wait, what? As usual, any attempt to get the company to reply about the increasingly disturbing information they're sending out is useless. The daily facts grow less and less useful and eventually seem to be nothing but fun facts about how flowers and bugs could kill you or one another. [AU workshop is here. In terms of appearance, he wears a loose button-up shirt along with a thin blue scarf and no jewelry. Any store he visits will have more of a hipster-y collection.]

III.

[His first thought was that he had indulged too much at the food truck rally.

Everything stopped fitting him. Mohammed prefers loose-fitting clothes, but last week he decided to go shopping for pet supplies in the form-fitting tree design shirt he had bought several months ago. The weather was warm enough to walk around with short sleeves and show off his wonderful taste in clothing. It's foiled by the weight he gained.

Only he didn't according to the scale. He's still very much the same size, and this shirt was supposed to fit him as before. Did it shrink in the wash? What about the khakis, which used to be a snug fit?

But the sad fate of his beloved clothes must not drag him from buying new ones. Dressed in the loosest outfit he can find - he must look like a mess, how can he be seen in public like this, his reputation is forever tarnish and he is no longer the perfect dresser - he sets out to find something that both fits him and looks good on him.

The problem is that everything marked his size either is too loose, too tight, too long, too short...why has his favorite brands abandoned him?]

Are you certain you marked these correctly? [He holds up two patterned shirts. It took him five minutes to find an employee that wasn't surrounded by other customers. If there was anything worse that walking around like a disaster, it was people seeing him dressed so awfully. Worse than that was people that he knew catching him here.] Neither fit be properly, even through I bought the same kind weeks ago!

IV.

[It's a beautiful day! The sun is shining, the day is warm, it's the perfect time to take your Boston Terrier to the park and play fetch!

Unless it prefers to roll around in the dirt and demand to scratched. That's still okay. Despite the dog's reputation, Mohammed will always believe he is a good boy deep down. Would a bad dog curl up next to its owner under the shade of the tree and relax?

Though at some point, Mohammed realizes that he's not petting fur any more. He turns to the spot that now holds a giant beetle.

He may have screamed. A little. His mouth was closed, that doesn't count as screaming in terror of a giant insect with pincers right next to him.]

Iggy?! [He steps back and quickly scans the area for any sign of his dog. The beetle reacts to the name by standing up and walking over to its owner.

...Mohammed feels very uncomfortable about this.]

[ Mafuyu pops her head over Mohammed's shoulder from the other side of the tree, intrigued by the sheer size of the beetle and she might be reaching her hand out to touch it. It's kind of weird and creepy, but at the same time, don't kids in the manga she reads collect beetles? Summertime means hunting for the largest beetles, and this one she could turn in for a lot of $$$ ]

[ Alec isn't really bothered by the rain. He has a cute cat umbrella to cover himself with and he's not in a hurry to be anywhere yet, what with there being another three hours before his first class today.

So he's browsing some of the street vendors and all those places, and is looking over the fashion they have there. ]

Hey, do you have this but with cats?

[ It may be a belt buckle, a shirt, a blanket, or anything, really. He just wants something new with cats on it. ]

[ Making flower crowns? Alec has done that before. He's not very talented but he enjoys it.

He also enjoys giving them to random people. Mainly by placing them on that random person's head without warning, stranger or friend not mattering. ]

[ He was following a cat, and it was lazily strolling down the street without being bothered. He saw its tail as it sat down, as it turned a street corner.

And then when he turns the corner too, the cat has been replaced by a big grasshopper. ]

...but...the cat...?

[ He's so confused and a little sad because...cats. He loves cats. Bugs, not so much. ]

[Alec got a good spot to stand - he's able to rest a flower crown on the tall man who walks by without getting his attention. And Mohammed continues walking down the street unaware of the wreath of daisies on his head.

He stops by a booth and buys some raspberry tea still wearing it. The booth attendant doesn't comment on it, but she's smiling the entire time.]

[Jaeger's lucky enough to avoid the sudden downpour by ducking into a local cafe, but that certainly doesn't mean he wants to stay here for long. He orders tea to be polite and sits at a table tapping his foot impatiently as he stares out the window at the rain. He really doesn't have time to be sitting in here while it pours, but the alternative is getting wet and Jaeger is not about to ruin his hair or his suit. You can catch him checking his phone every few minutes to look at the time or otherwise play some stupid games while he waits, and if you don't approach him first, he'll eventually approach you. He's all out of tea and he's done waiting.]

Hello! It certainly is dreadfully unfortunate that we're stuck in here, ja? And here I thought it was supposed to be clear today!

[His accent is ridiculously thick and very German. Despite the irritation he's been showing over at his table his words are chipper and cheerful and his smile looks genuine. But surely he's not approaching you just to talk...]

You wouldn't happen to have an umbrella, would you?

[Ah yes, there's the real reason behind this.]

II.

[This sort of thing really doesn't interest Jaeger, but he wouldn't be a very good salesman if he didn't at least stop by to check out the stalls! He's not here to buy anything though and he'll leave empty-handed, but he's having a good time chatting up the vendors and examining their wares. If you're manning a stall he'll chat you up too, starting by asking about whatever you've got in stock. It's very obvious this man has never set foot in a garden for any amount of time given how he asks about literally everything.

It's also possible to run into him on the outskirts of the festival, where he'll be hanging back and just sort of watching everyone. Instead of the usual cheerful expression he looks contemplative, like he's considering something very deep. He probably isn't.]

[There's a little shop full of trinkets and strange objects that you might have come across. It's very well maintained but the items within are strange at best and downright disturbing at worst. It looks like your typical curio shop, but there's something a little weird about it. Maybe it's the man who runs it. Jaeger always seems happy and upbeat, regardless of what's actually going on. He's just a little off, like everything else in his shop.

Maybe you're in the market for a job, or maybe you already work for him. Either way you'll have to put up with this man for awhile and it probably won't end well. You'll have access to the back of the store, which looks like a living space that is practically untouched. There's also some other strange stuff back here... is that a skull? It's probably fake, right? Things are way creepier back here. Maybe you don't want to work for this man.

If you're just browsing, expect to deal with Jaeger as well. He's a charming salesman who's good at what he does, but that doesn't excuse him from popping up seemingly out of nowhere.]

[Ami is a frequent patron of antique and curio shops, because hashtag aesthetic. She found this one after wandering off while her parents hung out at the flower festival, and she's very intrigued by the weird stuff on display - the creepier, the better!

She's mildly startled by the sudden appearance of a guy who she can only assume works here, but recovers a second later.]

Um, yes and no. That is, that question hinges on the assumption that I was looking for anything in particular, which I was not. But I have found a lot of cool stuff, nonetheless!

[This was not the weather he had expected when he woke up that morning. 'Red sky at night' indeed-- perhaps that rosy sunset the evening before had been a lie after all.

But that didn't help Robin, with his bag of books he had collected from the vintage bookstore and no umbrella to ward against the torrential downpour. He peered out from underneat the awning that shaded the entryway to the shop, hand over his eyes to shield his gaze as he studied the clouds that hung oppressively overhead. The dark depths of them and the languid pace that they drifted over the city with was decidedly not encouraging...]

Should've packed an umbrella after all, [He said to himself, absently running a hand through his dark hair as he pondered over how he was going to get himself out of this pickle.]

Fun Fact: Dragonflies can catch 95% of the prey they hunt!

[Robin made a face at his phone for the umpteenth time that day, the buzzing of that blasted Retrospec app going non-stop with it's repeated (and interestingly useless) facts about insects that was starting to try even his patience. Once again, Robin found himself wondering if he should just delete the app and get on with his life-- but, there was something about it that had piqued his interest.

And, once his interest was piqued, he couldn't just let it go.

...But, perhaps there was a work around-- if he had a chance to just fiddle with his phone for a bit.

Thus Robin, in the back of the bakery he had decided to have his lunch at, set to work with his plan-- with occassional grumbles of frustration when his phone buzzed with yet another notification every time he thought he was making a shred of progress.

This was going to be a long afternoon.]

[ the comic corner is a corner shop on tisse with large windows, and inside there are, well. comics. games and trading cards and some ordinary books are sold here as well - geeky items are pretty much a safe bet. at the moment there's also levy mcgarden sitting not behind the counter but at one of the folding card tables set up in the middle of the store with some [not pokemon cards] spread out before her as she idly plays against herself. it's been a slow day.

if you choose to come inside to take shelter from the rain she'll look up as the bell above the door rings and cheerfully offer to help, or if you seem to be loitering aimlessly... ]

You're just taking shelter from the weather, huh? Well, if you aren't busy...how about a card game or two? We have all kinds. And if you win, you can have my umbrella!

well, it isn't like she's a kid who has a shot at winning this, but what the hell is she so caught up in? after a moment, she seems to startle and look around. ]

[ usually nothing can jar levy from a good book, but she's currently holding one in her hands and staring over the top of it at a little old lady walking her dog. this is almost odder a sight than the dog itself being a caterpillar, honestly? levy usually is completely distracted from any book in her vicinity, so... ]

Are these fun facts targetted?? I've been getting nothing but notes about how bookworms can kill me (which I'm not sure is factually accurate anyway) all day! I don't really mind reading facts periodically but I'm trying to decide if someone is trying to be mean or not.

They're very dedicated, whoever they are! You have to admire the tenacity. And also the subject matter? Most people don't seem to want to talk about insects, although I do know a lot of people who don't mind talking about flowers. So I've learned a lot today! But I could maybe stand to learn a little less, or maybe we could focus on non-lethal facts? Just for variety?

[He didn't think too much of it when he got dressed and headed out this morning, but now that it's halfway through the schoolday, he's really noticing that his shirt shouldn't be this baggy. Professor Lindholm has always been used to his somewhat shorter statute, but this?]

[Even his apron seems ten sizes too big. Grumbling, he reaches for some tools, of mind to jury-rig something until he's done with his last class and he's able to head out and get something that fits him right.]

[Rachel is one of those overachievers who likes to introduce herself to teachers. All the teachers. For a while, it was easier to do so than people her own age. Such was the case with the school's shop teacher - which was odd, considering Rachel had never taken his class. Somehow, they'd managed to have a decent enough association, with Rachel reaching out to him for help with various problems.

Which was the case today, after school of course. She came to where she knew she could find him on this day and hour, holding a box with a broken coffee maker inside of it. Taking a short breath, she popped her head into the doorway.]

Ah, Mister Lindholm? It's me, Rachel again.

[Of course he forgot to prepare. Why would Hiro remember to prepare for something like rain even with the clouds overhead? Leaving one of his classes he's loitering around the Recollé Library and pawing through the bin of miscellaneous umbrella.

How unfortunate that the only one that seems to be large enough is this monstrosity. He'll be doing his best to book it through the rain (and fast), but he may just bump into you and send his umbrella sprawling getting both of you wet. Before you can say anything though, he'll point.]

Do not even say it. I already know, but it was the only one they had okay?

IV.

[That's. A really, really terrifying-looking centipede. Why is that here. Why is this happening? He's used to Mrs. Shapiro and her yappy little dog with its quick-moving legs chasing him down the street, but now it appears as though the critter (whatever it is!?) is chasing him down the street with more legs than expected.

Running. Running sounds great and he'll be pushing people out of the way.]

Sorry, coming through!

[Please feel free to point out that the monstrous bug has glitched back to being a dog and he seems to be running from nothing, especially as he dives behind a garbage can and peers out from behind it.]

[He's parked at a cafe (maybe it's yours?) and scrolling through this new app that's downloaded to his phone as he drip-dries and waits for the rain to let up. The longer he reads through everything though the more perplexed he appears. Without warning, though, a large picture of a tarantula appears on his screen and he startles, yelping and dropping his device on the floor. With his phone skittering across the floor, it may land on your feet. Please don't step on it?

Alternatively, you may come across him crawling out of his seat and grabbing for his phone. Sorry if he trips you.

[ This unlucky bastard got caught in the rain, much to his displeasure, and has taken shelter under an awning by one of the street vendors. He's taken off his suit jacket in some futile attempt to keep it from getting soaked, and he took a moment to inspect the damage done to it. Probably looked pretty unhappy, this jacket isn't going to recover...

Now he's taken to reading through the fashion magazines while he waits for the rain to lighten up. He's frowning, which isn't surprising considering, well. Nevermind the buckles, what is with these dresses? ]

This seems rather tasteless...

Marcell can be found his long hair braided with a number of flowers of different colours, and he's holding several flower crowns in his hands. They're all very meticulously made; it seems he really got into it. ]

Suffice to say that Brett is not happy about being caught in the rain, especially as he clutches his backpack (with his papers and books!?) to his chest. It's not helping much, with the rain continuing to fall onto his pack nevertheless.

Desperate times (?) call for desperate measures! ... Which is why, if you've opened the door to a nearby building, Brett—standing a distance away—is, uh.

Promptly throwing his bag through the doorway. At least he has a good arm on him??? Sorry if it accidentally hits you instead, though—he was aiming for otherwise, but you know accidents happen...

Either way, Brett's stalking after his thrown bag. Listen, it got his stuff out of the rain a few seconds sooner...]

IV:

[Why is there chirping. Why.

... Is pretty much Brett's thought, as he stands behind a counter at A Good Bean, trying to serve the next customer. The fact that there are inexplicable cricket noises is making the entire thing rather distracting, however, and, fairly certain that it's coming from him somehow, Brett's growing more and mortified (and confused, to be honest).

If you're a customer, whether or whether not you're the one he's helping, he does his best to ignore it—but his dismay is written fairly clearly on his face, and he might be making a few mistakes here and there.

Alternatively, if you're his coworker, he'll be grabbing your sleeve, and in a near hiss:]

[ True to fashion, Davey’s attempt to stride quickly from the library to the bus before the downpour has failed enormously. Maureen may have been on her way to something important like grocery shopping, but she honestly can't remember now. The rain came from nowhere and unlike everyone else, who seemed to scramble to hide under awnings or empty their wallets for a shitty umbrella, she's enjoying it.

Skin tight dark denim jeans now soaked, her baggy t-shirt drenched and her braided hair dripping with rainwater, she shoved her hands in her pockets and leisurely strolled down the street, flashing a smile to anyone that looked her way a second time.

Sure, her mascara's running and she looked like she just go out of a dunk tank at a carnival- but why let a little rain ruin her day? Apologies in advance, that puddle up ahead is very inviting and just begging to be jumped in, whether there's someone nearby trying to stay dry or not.

Mo wasn't the best at arranging flowers or... really most of whatever was even going on here. That didn't stop her from trying her hand at weaving flower crowns, however. She sat to the side of everything, having already fashioned a lilac flower crown for herself. As soon as she's finished the second flower crown, which isn't too shabby if you were to ask her, she scopes out everyone around her as she gets up.

Finding someone particularly her type (read: most everyone, male or female...), she'll saunter on over to them and carefully perch the flowers on their head with a flirtatious grin. "This suits you perfectly."

If she makes it safely to the awning, she's prepared to just wait out the storm-- she's sopping wet and her bangs are plastered to her face, but her backpack is relatively dry and so the books are safe-- when she hears a slow, treacherous rrrrip coming from the seams of the bulging bag. She freezes, as if she'll stop the bag from splitting any further if she just doesn't move a muscle.]

he looks like to see if anyone heard him making the noise and that's when something catches his attention. from the corner of his eye, he sees movement and he turns to see what it was.

after a few seconds of hesitation, he moves forward and then raises his umbrella as hiiiiiigh as his height will allow him to try and shelter the poor soul from the downpour. ]

[There is a dog park not too far from Aria's building, and the girl and Rain frequent it regularly. It's probably one of the few times she actually gets out and relaxes, minus the time when her friends can drag her away from the pool or library.

Plus it's a good way to grab a coffee and go out for a walk. Fresh air really helps quite a bit.

But it's getting late and after about an hour of playing, Aria's ready to head back. She brings her fingers up to whistle to her Shiba, who she momentarily lost sight of while looking at her phone, and is greeted not with a dog...

But a gigantic dragonfly who seems all too happy to see Aria.]

R-Rain?! [Immediately spitting out her drink, Aria backs up as the dragonfly... sort of... wags it's tail? Just like a dog. But she looks positively mortified. What happened to her cute little rolly polly pup?]

Oh my god... [Seriously. She feels like she just had a heart attack as she tries to move away from the overly enthusiastic giant bug.]

[ There’s a young man in a hurry, walking briskly past, umbrella rising and falling as it bobs along a sea of people. Yet, he slows down to a halt as he feels something amiss and backtracks to an alley. Oh.

There’s a puppy unsuccessfully trying to keep dry under a cardboard box.

A minute later, Emil’s got him tucked in his coat, and is flagging down your character. ]

Hey, weird question. Are you missing a dog?

TWO.
[ Emil is out shopping at a clothing store, quickly realizing why there’s a huge sale happening. All these clothes, he realizes, are extremely unflattering. Disdainfully, he looks at his butt in the mirror and wonders what happened to his ass. He pulls the waistband forward to check and… wait… what?

He’s taken aback as he looks at himself again, and quickly checks the size tags. Okay… That’s weird. And he is not an extra small!

A quick glance around tells him no one’s looking, so he rolls up a sleeve and flexes, just to make sure his muscles are still there. Pokes himself in the abs. Lifts his shirt. Gives his quads a squeeze. No, he doesn’t realize your character has just walked into the area. ]

THREE.
[ He’s been doing research but can’t decide what shelter to send the puppy to, though he knows he can’t keep it in his tiny apartment. He’ll have to give it up soon, but he feels guilty leaving her at home so he takes her to the park, to get coffee, to the library, and hides her in his bag during classes.

After a gruesome workout at the gym with increased weights, Emil is bone-tired and ready to go home when suddenly there’s a threateningly large grasshopper jumping up and down trying to greet him. His eyes go wide and he sprints back inside, with his back against the door, catching his breath. He hears a sad chirp from outside. He has never been more concerned in his life. ]

He tugs at the wires uselessly, trying to get them back over but it seems they’re all bent out of shape. Even the once-perky eyes on his frog umbrella are looking a bit wonky. ]

[ Reynir is at the square, happily making himself a flower crown when he’s noticed that there are small children who come over to stick flowers in his hair, since they can reach the tail end. He bends down to place some flowers in the children’s hair, and then finds himself sitting cross-legged at the table as his hair is being tugged at, argued over and decorated by a bunch of five-year-olds.

They yank pretty hard for having such small hands. ]

Ah— I’m really sorry. I see uh, I see my friend over there and I promised we could get lunch together!

[The first giant insect she'd seen had been terrifying. A millipede had no reason to be that big! She'd completely freaked out and the man who had been walking the creature had frowned at her. As the day went on, she noticed quite a few of the giant insects and...most of the people she saw didn't even seem to take any notice. It was bizzare but they seemed pretty harmless. One pill bug even rolled over to have its belly rubbed.

No matter how scary they looked, the bugs didn't act dangerous....and maybe this was just how they did things in America?

Having decided on that, when she found a madagascar hissing cockroach hanging around by itself with a collar, looking lost and lonely, she coaxed it close with some sugar cubes. While it was eating she read the tag on its collar. The insect's name is Roger.

She picks up the insect and started walking up to people.]

Excuse me, is this your pet? [She says while holding up the insect. And yes. The cockroach is hissing at you.]

[It sure is raining. Guess who doesn't care? This guy. Mista's got no hecks to give about sky water.]

[And, okay: maybe he should care. He's wearing a veering-out-of-season sweater that's sticking to his arms and probably halfway to ruined if he stays out much longer, and a beanie that's doing exactly nothing to stop him from being drenched. Eventually, at least, he's got the sense to take the hat off, although even then--honestly, he just wrings it out and stuff it in his back pocket.]

[For some reason, he doesn't even try to keep himself dry. No skipping from awning to awning for him, no looking for umbrellas or something to cover his eyes. He just squints up at the rain and grins as he walks along, apparently happy as a clam, with his dripping curls hanging in his face.]

[If anyone offers him an umbrella, he'll just give them a quizzical look and shake his head.] Nah. 'S just rain, [he says, and (accidentally or on purpose, who can say) shakes his head to knock the excess water off, splattering the good Samaritan.] Free shower.

[There's some part of Mista that's wistfully fond of flowers. They speak to the not-very-well-hidden-at-all romantic that lives in the core of him, the part of him that believes that everything in life follows a storyline that is guaranteed a happy ending with a cute love interest. Plus they're bright and eye-catching--even (especially) like this, randomized as all the gardens and arrangements are. They remind him of a nonna's garden back home, and make him feel both homesick and comforted.]

[And of course he's going to participate. He's a party kind of guy, even when the party is flower crown weaving. Which, as it turns out, he is not the best at. After his third failed attempt and bajillionth daisy he's clumsily stripped of its petals, he gives it up with a blase,] Well, looks like I suck at this.

[Then he wanders off to do other stuff: give the kids pointers on what kind of flower crown looks the prettiest, and what they should do if they want to win the contest ("lots of different colors, big flowers, you're on the right track"); eyeball the giant flowers with a sense of vague unease, because flowers aren't supposed to be big enough to eat your whole entire head; and of course, eat. He's hungry. He's going to eat some of everything, and come back for more, and probably go through about a million napkins. Thanks in advance.]

[This entire fashion situation would be devastating to most people who have any sense of self-awareness, or indeed working retinas. Mista has neither. As such, this crisis is more just a minor inconvenience for him. He doesn't want to buy a bunch more clothes, but he can afford a couple things, at least. And he likes shopping, even.]

[Note: he is not good at it. He's quick to jump on fads, especially big and flashy and impractical ones, because he just likes buying himself stuff when he can. His impulsivity's displayed in the selection of garments in his arms at the moment, all in garish-to-genuinely-upsetting colors and patterns. So many crop tops, too? Why. Stop this. Seriously, someone stop him.]

[It's easy enough for him to bump into other people, because he isn't paying attention to where he's going--his eyes are on the racks. If he does collide with someone, he's quick to apologize, but just as quick to eyeball what they're looking at and give them Exciting Tips like:]

[after a very successful day of flower crown making (with the help of a few friends, but you know, #teamwork), Majima heads back to the club with a STACK full of flower crowns, one for everyone on the team. not everyone is working tonight, of course, so he'll end up with a few extras for the next couple nights but as people trickle in for their shift they get greeted with a flower crown.

[ The weather sure is unpredictable, isn't it? One short grocery shopping trip seems to have become one longer shopping trip now that he's forgotten to bring an umbrella and gotten stuck at the store. Reiji seems rather casual about it though, hefting his bag with one hand (seeming like minimal effort) and idly looking around the clothes store. ]

Carmine? That was in vogue five years ago. Looks like they're reviving the old style.

[ Reiji probably should be back home right now, but the display of flowers had caught his attention and there's no way he would pass up a chance to do something fun. Soon he's with the other residents picking flowers and weaving them, the deftness of his fingers not something usually expected from a guy with enough lean muscle to look like an athlete. Once it's done, he'll drop it off on the head of the closest person who looks like they need one (read as: don't have one).

He'll probably be noticed, but that doesn't seem to matter. ]

[ The Suwa household operates a Japanese dance school in one of the more high-class regions of Tisse, with an elegantly styled front to match. Existing students stream into the school once lessons are about to start, some of them already clad in their practice clothes.

[ Elda comes to this event every year that she's lived here in Recollé, usually bring her son. ... Her son said that he was too old and too cool and too busy for it this year (he might not have used those terms) so the petite 40 year old is sort of at this picnic by herself and also actively pouting while trying to show that she isn't pouting. Watching children playing and people making flower crowns, the woman busies herself with picking some nice flowers and putting them into a makeshift bouquet or maybe some crowns of her own. People who look similarly lost of lonely will be singled out to have a surprise crown put on their head. This happens regardless of who it is)

But if there's any people around here her own age (or near enough, adults over 30ish basically) who doesn't look like they have a a purpose here will be jumped by her and- ]

I brought a nice little lunch and probably took too much! Let's sit together.

[ So you know what's an issue when everything is way too big on everyone? Being really small in the first place. Elda's 5' and 115ish lbs, with a very small and slight body type she works hard to maintain. Which mean, of course, that when he dresses and blouses go up in size (or maybe she got smaller? It's hard to tell) she's positively swimming in them. And while that could normally be called flattering, this is anything put.

Particularly because she needs to leave the house wearing about the only pair of pants she owns, held up by a belt that she stole from her son, wearing a jacket that she looks like a little kid in from how big it is, over a loose track top. Basically, while her hair and make up is as impeccable as ever (angry flustered look aside) her clothes look really, really stupid. Still, she's a socialite on a mission today. Driving all over town, she's planning to head to every store in town to try things on and find something that fits. She doesn't care if she has to replace every piece of clothing she owns!!

This begins at at designer places where she is pretty polite, but as more and more of those fail her, well. She starts to get increasingly haggard and angry in department stores. And as such, you might see the tiny woman finally snapping as she comes to this realization that she might need to go to a thrift store or something (and she's starting to think even that might not work) ]

I know my size, you dunderhead! Seriously! Am I going to need to go to the children's section to find anything that fits?! I will, you know, if you have anything made of fabric better than something made in a lab!

[ Always much more of a bat cat person than a dog person, fortunately, none of Elda's cats have transformed into bugs. Which... is good. She would be livid of any of the dozen or so cats in her manor were now like a moth or something. Ugh.

That said...

She does have another problem. A real problem. Namely... People walking their bugs past her lawn and pooping on them. This was a problem with dogs, but it somehow seems much grosser when someone is letting their praying mantis or something poop on the tree near her lawn and not picking it up. Or frankly anywhere in her neighborhood. And as such, Elda...

Puts up a sign similar to this one on the edge of her lawn and also possibly illegally taped to telephone polls. However, her version of the sign has a cockroach drawn there in place of the dog. She made it herself! And printed it out on poster paper! ... She's a pretty decent artist but. Hey. ]
