He is really enjoying her company, and spar buddies! But he is scared that she might see how unbalanced and unstable he is. Hell, since this is a relatively normal friendship he is afraid she might just up and leave for any number of reasons.

Oh man where do I even begin... Shuji has been such a tremendous help for Jaeger, especially with several things he's (still) working on. He has problems trusting others and opening himself up, especially emotionally, and Shuji's always been really good about listening to him and being one of the first up to bat for him. He really does appreciate everything Shuji's done and said, because Shuji knows when to let things go and not pursue and he also knows when to gently prod Jaeger for more information (which is definitely something he needs). He's always found Shuji to be enjoyable to talk to and be around, but Shuji's more than proven himself repeatedly as a dear friend.

Shuji's also great for bitching with? Oh my god Jaeger sometimes just wants to aggressively bitch about Retrospec and everything else and Shuji is great for that. Shuji also usually lets him know when he's going overboard with it and needs to back off, so he definitely appreciates that too. All in all, Shuji's a wonderful friend and Jaeger's really glad he has him around!!

WHERE DO I EVEN START WITH YOU... Okay, I'm going to be a bit more brief with some of the ones we talk about all the time, but I'm mentioning them anyway because idk I'm a cr completionist, leave me alone.

JAEGER & WESKER

What can I say about these two that we haven't already said a million times... They're so adorable!!! (That's already been said.) I never would have expected Jaeger to end up actually coming out of all of this a better person and someone who was willing to work on his issues and try to help others, but his character arc has gone this way and Wesker has had a big impact on that. He wants to do better for himself, certainly, but also because he wants to be able to help Wesker out and that idea of "I want to help people" seems to have been buried beneath the surface, it just needed some help to unearth. And Wesker has helped, tremendously. Jaeger wouldn't be able to talk to any of his CR about his memories or anything else without Wesker's help. So when he says "I don't know where I'd be without you" he means it, and I don't know where he'd be either and goddamn it's a surreal thought.

Wesker really does mean the world to Jaeger and he's so happy he's found someone who loves him so much and is so patient with him while he works himself out. He's had a lot of issues to fight his way through, and he never would have started without Wesker's assistance. He'll keep working on the things he's having difficulties with, and who knows, someday he might even be a well-adjusted individual! (But probably not.)

It's still crazy to me how Jaeger started out closer to Yeager and then decided he didn't want to be Like That and chose to turn his entire life around, and not only managed to confront some of his problems but work on overcoming them. It's been a really fun ride and I look forward to see how Jaeger will keep changing in the future with Wesker's help!

Of course, Jaeger will always be here to help Wesker with anything he needs, and he's absolutely here for fighting anything he can to protect his husband. He knows Wesker's got issues, but he doesn't mind any of them at all and he's always going to be right here for him. He couldn't be happier with his husband!!

JAEGER & CUMORE

Cumore and Jaeger's CR started off so bad, I'm still laughing about it. But now Cumore is one of Jaeger's closest friends (despite his many, many flaws) and Jaeger would absolutely throw down over Cumore's honor or feelings or anything, really. I mean part of that is because Jaeger is a very fighty person but part of that is also because you don't fuck with Cumore. Sure, Cumore probably deserves it sometimes, but there are certain things you just Do Not with. Don't mess with Cumore or he'll be mad!!!

He's still a little concerned about how little he cared about Cumore in his past life, but even though that was ultimately why he decided to befriend Cumore, it's more of a background thought now. He doesn't really focus on their past lives as much as he does the present, because they didn't really know each other back then. They do now! And look at how much of a mess they are. He gets Cumore has issues as well, but he's (mostly) fine with them and he's here to support Cumore no matter what. He probably wouldn't have befriended Cumore quite this hard if they hadn't been from the same world in their past lives, but it's not like he has any regrets. In this house we stan Cumore, etc.

JAEGER & ARTHUR

IT'S ALEXEI...... He's going to be more convinced after seeing the hair color change, but ohhhh my god. He hates Alexei, but Arthur has confused him greatly because Arthur seems fine?? Arthur seems like a perfectly acceptable individual, albeit a little weird, but it's not like he'd be the first weird person Jaeger gets along with. Some part of him really wants to convince himself that Arthur isn't Alexei, because he does kind of like Arthur. And if Arthur is Alexei then that just makes things even more complicated. He doesn't want to deal with that?? Oh my god. Like he mentioned to Wesker, he is still glad he didn't let Arthur wander off to possibly get himself in trouble and/or die, but it's still Complicated, and he Doesn't Like It.

He's going to be very relieved when he finds out Arthur isn't Alexei and he'll be more open to talking to him more and actually befriending him instead of being just really weird in his direction. But for now it's confusing and he isn't sure what to do with it.

SHIGURE & ARTHUR

Shigure is literally the most chill individual in the fucking world and I'm not sure how he's able to be so laid-back about all of this, but here we are. This is a good thing when it comes to Arthur, because he is totally fine with weirdly intense people who lack a sense of humor and are otherwise just kind of awkward. He's totally fine with Arthur, and he's here to aggressively befriend him again. Even if they were from different worlds he'd still do it, because Shigure's just kind of like that. He sees someone who looks like they need a friend and he is here to Help. Even if no one wants or asks for it. He's not very good at helping either, but he. tries.

Things are definitely going to get interesting once they start getting more memories back (and actually talk about them...) and I'm really looking forward to seeing where they go! I have no idea where they'll end up, and I'm excited to find out!

SHIGURE & WESKER

Speaking of really intense people... Shigure's pretty chill with Wesker too, even though Wesker's more intense and also probably completely crazy. But hey, he's teaching Shigure how to fight and that is very important. Shigure has been out here for ten minutes and he's already totally here for it. This can only end poorly.

Thankfully, I don't actually see things ending poorly between him and Wesker, if only because Shigure's so goddamn chill. He is not 100% sold on fighting Wesker, but you know what, he's open to the idea and it's not like he's wigged out by the suggestion in the first place. He's probably going to get along just fine with Wesker regardless, and that's something I want to see more of as well!!

shinji is a CHILD, anna can't be friends with a CHILD, she'll fill his head with curse words and bad ideas about buying swords and not going to school, this is AWFUL. no but for real she's like. she's torn up that retrospec would decide to wreck the life of somebody who hasn't even had the chance to wreck his life on his own yet, just because that seems, like, really messed up, right? he's like nanashi but smaller and without a gun. and she doesn't exactly have a maternal or sororal instinct towards him, but she also just, like, definitely doesn't want a kid to get hurt in all of this. so she's probably going to fight a little harder to keep him safe, even if she's pretty sure he can defend himself.

lina just wants to be a better friend to shuji. he means so much to her, he's one of her closest remaining friends, and she feels like he (almost more than her own sisters, which she'll have to unpack later) is owed her strength and resolve and self-improvement in the face of such overwhelming odds and the feeling that the world is stacked against everyone on the app. (or maybe just against her.) he's a very good person to her and he tries so hard that he makes her want to try even harder just to prove that she's, like, worthy of being friends with him. she wants him to be happy and she wants however this all ends up going, whatever vanderweele ends up Doing to everyone (or vice versa), to end with him being happy.

anna doesn't really know lucy that well, but she's impressed that lucy managed to walk away from a weird random encounter in bosuma without being too messed up by the process. it's a sign of the right kind of mindset to handle the real deep dives that this place is gonna demand of them in the very, very near future, or at least the ones that anna anticipates taking part in.

she also heard about how freya protected lucy down there, and that helped improve her opinion of lucy a bunch, too. she trusts frey, and if lucy is someone that frey's apparently close enough to to protect like that, she's gotta be good people, right? that's what anna thinks, at least.

anna respects james, which might be her first mistake. she knows he doesn't need her help or protection, and she'd really rather fight alongside him than anything else, but also he's, like, just competent enough to get himself in The Shit. because also, so is she. she doesn't really feel bad about not telling him that she was going somewhere dangerous alone because she kind of expects that he'd do the same. really, though, she knows they're best when they work together, and that they're generally of the same mind about things -- even though she feels like she might be a little more of an extremist here? not that it really bothers her or anything, she just knows she's a Lot where vanderweele is concerned.

in her mind, he's a good ally and friend, and she trusts him to have her back as things keep breaking and breaking all around them. and she'll be right there with her sword and her upcoming two metal arms, which are sadly attached to her shoulders and cannot be used as missiles.

DEREK!!! Man... what can he even say about Derek.

If Xiaolang had a Venn Diagram of 'adults who take him seriously' and 'adults who drive him up the wall', Derek would be in that ittttty bitty space in the middle. Derek was the first to help clue him in about the plot-things related to Retrospec and treat him like a peer about it... and then he goes and teases him about his crush (which wasn't a crush at the time, thank you very much!! it was totally a crush) and police him about exploring places by himself, so he's like ??? WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS

That said, Derek's one of the people he's known the longest on the app, and so he has a decent amount of trust in him! Maybe not with everything-- he still gets gun-shy about telling him anything too personal since he doesn't want Derek to give him a hard time-- but given he's one of the few who knows about what happened to Leon in June, he's fairly up there? He also trusts him to look after Sakura, considering how he did so prior to Xiaolang getting the app, which is... probably why he didn't get as mad at him as he should post-virus event stuff?? Like he knew Derek would never hurt her if he was in the right state of mind, and he was also badly affected by the virus, so he understands! He's not happy it happened, but he understands!!

Anyway, I'm rambling, but tl;dr, Derek may be annoying and contrary and quick to try to get a rise out of him and get under his skin, but Xiaolang does see him as an adult he can depend on! He might not directly say it to his face, but he knows if he somehow wound up in trouble, Derek would be the first few he would call. (When he's not being stubborn about help, anyway)

WESKER → SHUJI
Wesker is honestly very fond of Shuji, albeit in a weird sort of way that he doesn't admit to very easily, if he does at all; he's glad that Shuji actually gets it anyway, and he's a lot more willing to let the guy tease him about it a little than he would be if he didn't like him at all - Wesker is a very blunt and aggressively strict person and he's really particular about his personal space, so it honestly says a lot that he'll let Shuji hug him and sit in his bubble sometimes.

He doesn't really know what to do with him all the time, and when he's like that he tends to get kind of short because that's just sort of how he handles things that he doesn't know what to do with - he either does that or he sort of suddenly infodumps a lot of stuff that he's been keeping to himself and there's no way for the other person to know, and he's at least...sort of recognizing that that's not fair? He's trying to step off a little when that happens, because he does like it when Shuji talks to him about stuff and he appreciates that sometimes they can just sit and talk about things. He doesn't have many friends that he can just spend time with, he usually prefers having a purpose to interacting with people in person, and so he actually sort of likes it when Shuji does things like bring him to the shrines and stuff for the new year or hangs out with him outside of general Retrospec whatnot. Basically, Shuji has been really good for him socially? And he does consider him a friend in some way, even if he's very..."what are words" about it.
