If Xiaolang had a Venn Diagram of 'adults who take him seriously' and 'adults who drive him up the wall', Derek would be in that ittttty bitty space in the middle. Derek was the first to help clue him in about the plot-things related to Retrospec and treat him like a peer about it... and then he goes and teases him about his crush (which wasn't a crush at the time, thank you very much!!
it was totally a crush) and police him about exploring places by himself, so he's like ??? WHY ARE YOU LIKE THISThat said, Derek's one of the people he's known the longest on the app, and so he has a decent amount of trust in him! Maybe not with everything-- he still gets gun-shy about telling him anything too personal since he doesn't want Derek to give him a hard time-- but given he's one of the few who knows about what happened to Leon in June, he's fairly up there? He also trusts him to look after Sakura, considering how he did so prior to Xiaolang getting the app, which is... probably why he didn't get as mad at him as he should post-virus event stuff?? Like he knew Derek would never hurt her if he was in the right state of mind, and he was also badly affected by the virus, so he understands! He's not happy it happened, but he understands!!
Anyway, I'm rambling, but tl;dr, Derek may be annoying and contrary and quick to try to get a rise out of him and get under his skin, but Xiaolang does see him as an adult he can depend on! He might not directly say it to his face, but he knows if he somehow wound up in trouble, Derek would be the first few he would call. (When he's not being stubborn about help, anyway)
