what's some of your fave canon luke moments and do you plan on regaining the memories of those moments sooner or later?

God why would you ask me this...MAN OKAY obviously the Diary of Luke Castellan (because soda-dispensing goats and exploding buildings and Everything), his last conversation with Percy in the woods at the end of TLT where he has the pit scorpion and Percy tells him he's brainwashed and he denies it, the fight on Mount Tam with Thalia, the conversation on Princess Andromeda with Percy and Annabeth, being hit in the eye with Rachel's hairbrush and when he breaks his possession, and literally the entirety of the time in the throne room in the last book.

I want to regain all of these honestly. I've regained some things (how he met Thalia, the tigers growing out of teeth, the promise to Annabeth) but some of his more intense canon points I'll probably prolong them a bit and then brutally destroy him and see how that goes. It'll be fun, he's already questioning if he's actually related to Annabeth

no lie I apped him to play with the scale of regaining half of the dumb shit in pjo's canon and then throwing the heavier harder stuff on him (like annabeth holding the sky or, you know, his nuclear explosion of a death) to see where he's gonna go.

francy you'll understand how delightful for me it is to write his AU as just having a distain for his dad and when he gets hermes memories back...c: I'm genuinely excited for his memories of all of the awful shit he did (like. bye ethan???) and how he'll deal with it

when you planned out luke's au, were there any aspects you avoided integrating into him to see where he'd take it when you got the mem or item regain?

I definitely took out everything with his mom! Canonically his mom causes him to run away when he's 9 years old, so I gave him an AU where he's actually close to his mom and loves her dearly. I also gave him only the one sibling (Annabeth, in this case) instead of the multiple half-siblings he has thanks to being a Hermes kid. Item-wise I made him a fencer so it'll be interesting to see what he does whenever he regains Backbiter. AND OF COURSE I didn't give him any of his scars and since he has two very important ones (his facial scar and the scar under his arm from when he stabbed himself) those are definitely going to change a lot of how he responds to everything

i am actually very interested in the scars - so which one do you think you're going to shoot for first? is there a particular reason why, whether it's for character growth or just your own malicious glee??

I'm definitely giving him the armpit scar first because it's going to confuse him and he's not going to understand it! The facial scar would be A Lot and I want to more or less confuse him and see how things are going to play out, esp since the armpit scar is actually canonically more awful than the facial scar

when you were planning his au, were there any aspects you wanted to include but had to scrap because it was Too Much or just didn't fit in? if that makes sense

Mmmmm I toned down his bitterness and anger a lot just to make him playable so that when he regained his memories it'd be a question of if he'd still feel justified by what he did or if he'd be like "well wait no" especially since canonically at the end it's questionable if he regrets what happened at all. Unintentionally I had him change his path at 19 (canonically he leaves CHB to join Kronos, AU he drops out of college and works for the bar) but I wanted to include like his breaking and entering thing for example and had to remove it because then he was just starting to get ridiculous.

LUKE OVERALL IS KIND OF EXTRA so I had to dial back a LOT because it didn't fit how I wanted him to start, which is at a Decent place and slowly deteriorating to see which way he sways especially given the canonmates he has in game

what's something you hope you can do with luke in the future?

you mean besides destroy him?

honestly I want to see how he's going to handle the knowledge he's dead and the circumstances surrounding his death. I'm also hoping to get him to a place where he can logically think through what he did in his canon and see if he calls his younger/past self a moron or if he decides nah he was 100% right.

game-wise I want him to make more adult friends good lord. but I'd also like to get him to at least celebrate his 24th birthday :')

you know I read that as "Ty let him find out he died by getting a regain on his birthday" so :) BUT YEAH it'll be fun because of how luke's personality is where he tends to try to justify things, so Im excited to see what his outside influences do for him too

but yes okay we are definitely doing a birthday party. in november. months from now.

Has anything surprised you while playing AU!Luke in comparison to canon Luke?

I'll admit I haven't played him as his AU nearly enough for me to gauge fairly because I've been Swamped but I will say that I find it easier to incorporate toned down versions of his canon traits than I initially thought (the casual bitchiness, the bitterness, the protectiveness of family, etc.) Given the drastic change from "demigod who's been on his own since he was 9" to "has a dad he doesn't like much but a very loving mother and sister" I wasn't anticipating things to line up the way they have.

I'm also always surprised when I can write him joking around and still be likable. Considering he's the antagonist of his series after the first book it's always hit and miss how Luke responds to stuff so it's been a fun experience tbh

WITH YAMATO!!! What's a regain you want him to obtain soon and what's one you're holding off on until a later date (and why, optionally)?

HE'S DEFINITELY LIKABLE whether he wants to be or not... laughs... but family changes are so neat and make such a difference

HMMM... well, I'm holding off on him regaining the shinsengumi haori until he has more of his memories, because it's not going to have any significant impact if he just thinks it's somebody telling him to cosplay LMAO. I plan on keeping his memory regains fairly vague so that the picture he gets isn't necessarily what actually happened, but he'll at least understand that it was something he treasured, and that it belonged to someone very important to him, even if he doesn't know who that was.

I just had him regain the omamori he received before his first battle, if that counts!! It's gonna give him nightmares :) I think I'm gonna start off with some pretty dumb or trivial things... or at least things that won't really mean anything until he starts getting more of his memories back. Like he had a dream about Kashuu giving him the hairpin he has in this icon, so if he regained that it'd be like 'hunh that's bizarre' but not like 'YOU SAVED MEEEEEE' lmfao

did you nail his back history the first time? if not, how many revisions? is there something you wish you included or expanded upon?

I will be honest, when we started creating the game back in November I had like 90% of his app and backstory done by the time we finished the info pages ahaha. I didn't take things out but I definitely added some stuff (the run-ins with the law, a few things pre-game like how he met Grell for instance, etc) before my final app. Looking at his workshop comment I know I put a couple of little things that I wish I had included just to emphasize how nosy Luke truly is but for the most part I think he worked out pretty well.

Do you have character arcs planned for Liz? What are you most looking forward to her regaining?

I MEAN, I DON'T BLAME YOU? i would be 2 hyped for AU but i would be brimming with different ideas a lot.

i definitely want to explore her idea of what an afterlife is! she's religious in both versions and both bitter at it. laughs sadly womp womp. but once she gets memories of dying and pieces together that i want to see if she can develop an understanding that this may be her second chance. her "paris". i also am dying to see other people regain stuff that goes against her views so i can Conflict.

also woof drama hurts so good but the awkwardness with reveals will be cool to play with.

I WANT TO REGAIN HER TEARS SO BAD!! slams hands down. maybe because it would be used for mundane things like opening a tear in her fridge to get milk since they're out.
