Has playing KK as an AU made you look at anything in his canon personality in a new light?

it's ok i didn't realize you were supposed to do that either until multiple people kept asking me stuff back and i was like "wait what"

UMMM well. one of the things about karkat is that it's noted that he would probably be a better human than a troll? cause by troll standards he's not a very... good one... because it's mostly him trying to act as much of a stereotype of a troll as possible because BY TROLL SOCIETY he should have been killed off as a baby because of his mutation. so in order so people don't catch on to the fact that he should be killed off, he goes out of his way?? to be a as troll-y as possible?? if that makes sense.... so playing a karkat who does not have to do that (i mean i put it in his backstory that in his previous town he tried really hard to fit in but he no longer does that in recolle) has been interesting!!

also his relationship re: friendship is also neat to explore cause canonly like... the trolls have a very hostile relationship towards each other in the fact that a lot of it is abusive because their society is pretty fucked up!! so it borders between like, these people genuinely hate each other but some of them are still friends with each other?? and the ones who are not actually friends with each other still like, deal with the ones they don't like simply because they are all members of the same friend group. SO NOT HAVING THAT BE A THING IN REC is very..... i am not sure how to explain it, but it means his relationships with people in recolle aren't as like, hostile as they were in canon? like he's still an asshole, but karkat is less of an asshole to people he actually likes in rec than he was in canon. he's still a gigantic douche to people he dislikes/don't know well tho.

god yeah I've only read up to like the beginning of act 5 I will admit (and part of act 6 but w/e) but I can definitely see that and in a way I think it's really setting up for a cool path whenever he starts remembering how troll society actually is. KARKAT BEING A TRYHARD IS KIND OF AMAZING so seeing him mellowed out is actually very neat from an outsider's POV, I like seeing the threads people plurk and watching him grow and shift

It's basically the difference between being a hostile fucker and just being prickly for his own justified reasons. I imagine that makes CR and the opportunities for threading with people a little easier too since he doesn't have the vitriol hanging overhead. (Which btw I need to thread with you still, we suck at this, too.) But no I totally get you, it's kind of how Luke is nicer to people he likes but he's a cagey jackass to strangers. It's one of those interesting reinterpretations.

GOSH OKAY CANONMATES...from the original series I would love a Clarisse. I'd say Silena but I'm not sure she'd have enough canon to be applicable. Those two would be interesting given what Luke does to Silena in-canon and also Clarisse is just. Clarisse. A Grover would also be interesting I think given his relationship with Luke but nobody plays Grover. From HOO I would kill for a Piper. I think a Piper off of Luke would be really neat since they both have the charming "I can get my way" thing going and also "My dad's ignoring me so I'm acting up" but Piper doesn't go insane and try to destroy Olympus so there's that. And also Jason just because we have the wrong Jason Grace rn and I think it's funny

i'm like really excited for him to regain more of his more asshole-ish moments? especially when he has no actual context for them so it's like, "WHY AM I THIS ANGRY AND ALSO CAPSLOCK???" since it's a very "wow i am even more terrible of a person than i thought i was??" kind of reveal especially since all of my regains so far has more or less been from when he was at his most asshole point? like he mellows out in canon but that's not really til later in act 6 after the timeskip and all of my regains so far have been act 5.

i actually want to start rping piper but... seriously i need to reread. A GROVER WOULD BE SO GOOD but you are completely right, no one rps grover. which is sad because i love him and he was such an important part of the original series?? i'm like, legit mad that he was barely in hoo.

i would kill for a sollux, kanaya, or terezi because they're basically karkat's Best Friends re: trolls. i've also never really gotten to properly rp with a terezi or sollux so i am even more aaaaa about them? i'd also love a jane since she's my favorite alpha kid but nO ONE RPS JANE...

YEAH NO I FEEL IT? I feel this a lot, I've been regaining some dumb ones for Luke but also some that are like mythical like "why are there dragons? why is this building on fire? WHY???" and he has his CHB necklace so he's still just "UH" but once he starts getting the worse ones it'll be very much like that, too. I'm glad to hear he mellows out canonically because I didn't read that far but I'm excited to see how he rolls with it, especially with who we have in-game

Ughhh I love all three of those and I've played off of all three of them (not as a HS but in general.) Sollux is my favorite of the three but I will hope and pray that someday we get at least one of them. The trolls are always hit and miss for me personally but I'd love to see them in this setting I won't lie. ALSO NOBODY PLAYS JANE WHO DOESNT PLAY ONE OF THE OTHER KIDS...all of the Jane and Grover rpers must be chilling together

Honestly in terms of CR type I want I've been getting a lot of what I was striving for which is that protective brother/mentor role and people to banter with (sometimes those people are the same.) I'd like people that push him into being less complacent because right now he's actually happy with his bar and creating stuff (which will change with regains, but.) But also just people he can doxx, always. IM DOING A LOG FRIDAY but I could always just hit KK's inbox, I've realized. I'm smart

Anya and Karkat is still really cute shit, I'm so happy. But I'm also glad to hear that mostly from a mod standpoint since the workshop was a very newish idea for us, so to hear it helped people bring cr into fruition is really nice. but I also think it's not bad to not have a goal? my goal with luke is literally "don't die, ya dumbass" which is more than I can say about his canon self. and with how regains work I think it'll be easy to find a goal once you figure out a pattern but I know some people do, so I was curious!

i think the workshop is such a good idea and that it would probably be a lot more difficult to pull off a game like this without one. since you can plan stuff out on plurk with people you already know, but that's still limiting yourself?? almost all of karkat's close cr ended up with people i never spoken to until that workshop for example. ALSO PLEASE DON'T DIE LUKE??? you have died enough, stop that, there aren't even any titans here

he basically does all of his schoolwork at work. if he finishes it/didn't really have any, then he'll like... bring a book or like a ds or something to spend the time when things are super dead. eventually i plan on changing his schedule around so he can have more normal hours? like most likely after he graduates high school and starts going to the university where he can pick his classes.

IF HE DIDNT HAVE THE BAR....god I think he'd be bouncing around between jobs and I vaguely considered that initially when I was first working on his AU as a throw-back to Hermes being the jack of all trades!god. I had the idea of him juggling multiple things (personal trainer, shelter worker, some internship with town hall, possibly a job he hated, etc) before settling on the bar since the bar made more sense with who luke is as a person and where I wanted him to go. his au means he dropped out of college but I headcanon he was vaguely interested in the medical route or in the english route

and since you brought it up, what would karkat go to university to study? what does he want to do?

GOD okay he lives in an apartment above the bar so his space is cramped but it's very basic like he has dark colors (like dark blue bedding and a black couch probably and black appliances) so it looks more sleek than it really should be. coming from an upperclass family money isn't an issue so all of his stuff is like...NICE? it's just sparse. he has a handful of vinyl records framed and hanging on the wall along with a few movie posters just because the walls were naked, but he also has various photos of his family and people he likes tacked up on the walls too. He also has a small money tree that he keeps on the kitchen counter that he's trying not to kill, gj luke. eventually he will get a fish tank
