NOVEMBER TDM

TEST DRIVE
NOVEMBER TEST DRIVE
The city of Recollé...

What do you mean the city's behaving for once?

I.
The Mayor's growing desperate with Thanksgiving right around the corner as those gosh darn turkeys continue to elude him. The birds that escaped at the beginning of the month continue to wreak havoc over the city as they mingle with the crowds and lay their golden eggs in less than convenient places.

However, with the clock counting down to Turkey Day, the birds appear to be a little more aggressive. You may find yourself actively chased out of a shop or your classroom by one of these wild birds gobbling angrily all the way. Perhaps a bird is nesting in the middle of the sidewalk forcing you to take a new path. Or perhaps you've come across one of their golden eggs, but be careful! It doesn't take more than a gentle touch now for these eggs to explode, showering anyone nearby with surprises such as candy, shaving cream, mud, bugs, plastic cars, crayons or other small tokens.

Will you attempt to catch the birds to turn them into city hall for the $50 reward? Or are you too busy running around to avoid them?

II.
Even with the turkeys on rampage, that doesn't damper the holiday season. Citizens from all over the city are preparing for the festivities of the month. Over at Tribunal Terrace several members from various volunteer groups and the Community Center are organizing their small annual Thanksgiving day parade that kicks off the city's potluck dinner. Grocery stores are swamped with shoppers picking up last-minute supplies for their big meals and you may find yourself fighting for that last jar of gravy.

Over at the community theater, children prepare for their Thanksgiving pageant and it's a flurry of activity from costumes to rehearsals to last-minute stage preparation before the big day. There's plenty of work to be done whether you're acting in the pageant or working on-set. The theater will need as many volunteers as possible to pull this show off.

Granted, there are plenty of things to go wrong in the chaos. One of the parade floats begins to drift away from Tribunal Terrace and rolls down the street on its own leaving volunteers to chase after it and fight off an onslaught of turkeys. Lights blow out in the theater and some wiring and set pieces need to be repaired. And did that person's grocery cart of food just hit your car? Good luck.

Are you prepared for your celebrations and willing to help your fellow neighbor? Or are you a last-minute straggler left high and dry?

III.

Earlier in the month several stores had discounted prices on all things blue and it looks like the prices just keep dropping. With green fully restored to all items in the city, items such as clothing, art supplies and food change prices every hour, on the hour.

The city of Recollé knows a good bargain when it sees it and hundreds of people hit the streets to snatch up what stock they can. It's like Black Friday came early and after a while some stores can't even keep up with demand. Maybe you're among the crowd hunting for just the right shade of green for your holiday packages, or perhaps you're some poor sap who got called into work at 6am on your day off to deal with a swarm of customers. No matter who you are though, you will find yourself having to answer the age-old question: which color is better, green or blue?

IV.
The blue skies have only been back for a few weeks before the gray of winter rolls in again. The wind picks up a little and the ocean crashes against the shore down at Peach Beach. The city grows dark each day beginning at about 4:30pm and the temperature drops little by little.

It's on November 18th that residents will find that there's a bit of frost on their windows when they wake up that Saturday. Toward the early afternoon, the first snowfall of the season begins. It's nothing much, mostly flurries that swirl and dance through the air and cause a burst of excitement among people. Some residents may even remember it's very similar to the Founder's Day holiday.

Though this won't be the last time it snows in the city, there's something magical about the first sign of winter as fall exits. Get out there and build a tiny snowman or catch snowflakes on your tongue. At least the turkeys seem to retreat from the snow itself.

BONUS.
Over the course of the month residents will find that the spotty reception they've always had has grown even worse. Static rings out over the line and long-distance calls stop going through. Emails bounce back despite numerous attempts, and don't even think about getting clear audio or video through Skype. No matter how hard one tries, by November 30th it will become incredibly clear that all phone calls, texts, emails and video chats to people outside of the city have been shut down. The internet will continue to function as normal (browse and share those cat videos to your heart's content) and inner-city communication functions just fine. You can try calling your service provider...but who knows if you'll get through?

And last but not least in the world of inconveniences, in some instances your calls and emails may be rerouted to fellow Retrospec users. Sorry about that!

Welcome to the [community profile] recolle test drive meme! All characters will be begin in-game AU'd as Recollé residents. [ Kaede crosses her arms, trying to remember if any farmers in her hometown owned any turkeys. She comes up with nothing. ]

I can't remember if anyone from home owned any, or what they did with them. I kind of wish I paid attention now... [ But there's no going back in the past, so her disappointment at her lack of knowledge fades pretty quickly. ]

I wonder if there's some kind of food turkeys like. Maybe we can lead it away with that?

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-11-21 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a good idea! We should try it.

[Getting her cellphone out of her pocket, Nike will begin to research the question about the bird they have to lead away from the cafeteria as soon as possible.]

Apparently, they like to eat oaks and berries too. There are other stuff too, but they don't really sound all that appetizing.

[Like grass. These things eat grass. Which was odd to her. Either way, she'll turn to Kaede with a thoughtful look.]

How big was this turkey? I was thinking that maybe if it isn't too big we can use the box and string trick. You know, the same method used in cartoons sometimes.

[At the very least, she has seen it used mainly on cartoons, it may be an interesting way to capture the turkey. After all, wasn't there a reward for capturing them? She does remember overhearing that tidbit from the other joggers at the park.]

[personal profile] spiritoso 2017-11-26 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
That might actually work! The turkey was big, but not too big. There's probably a box big enough for it. [ Plus neither of them would have to get super close to it. ]

Maybe we could carry it somewhere after we catch it too.
drizzle: ((ava) worry smile)

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-12-01 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a relief! We can safely get it out of the way without force. I think I know where to get one too.

[It'll just take one text message on acquiring it too.]

Turning it in to school security may be a good idea. I overheard about there being some kind of reward for capturing them too.
spiritoso: (35)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2017-12-02 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
A reward? It sounds like a plan, then!

[ They could always use whatever the reward would be, honestly. Once they have the box, Kaede crosses her arms. ]

Okay, now we just need to figure out how to set it up without the turkey noticing.
drizzle: ((ava) listening)

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-12-05 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
We could always use food as bait. Birds are always hungry, aren't they?

[Only going by her scarce knowledge of crows and pigeons over here.]

Then we could tie the stick holding the box with a string? Um, that's how usually goes, right?
spiritoso: (11)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2017-12-06 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
That should work! If it doesn't we can at least look up how to do it... [ Even though it'd be wasting precious time against the turkey. ]

Let's just get everything set up for now.
drizzle: ((ava) weak smile)

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-12-07 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Okay! Sounds like a plan!

[It'll take some time to get everything set up. Bait, stick, string, and all the material needed to make a good box trap. Their main issues were 1) finding a way to create a proper guide for the turkey to follow to the trap and 2) a spot with enough visibility and places to hide to keep an eye on it. But, luckily, a local janitor was helping them by deterring the college traffic elsewhere, offering them the perfect opportunity to capture the feathery creature.]

Oh, it's finally here!

[A turkey has made its appearance by following the trail of oaks they had left. Ava will turn to Kaede.]

That's the turkey, right?
spiritoso: (15)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2017-12-09 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yup that's it. [ She feels a small chill, remembering how scary it looked when it was coming after her. Of course, now it looks completely innocent. ]

Looks like it's walking right into our trap.
drizzle: ((ava) listening)

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-12-12 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
[It'll take a little bit of time, but the turkey will begin to get closer to the box; most likely believing it was a comfortable spot to eat and rest in for later.]

All we have to do is wait for it to just....lay down or something.

[They just need to hope it'll get tired from all of its snacking. Which, luckily, it will after a few moments of waiting for it to do exactly just that.]

Whenever you're ready to pull the sting, do it swiftly.
spiritoso: (02)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2017-12-14 08:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Kaede watches it carefully, nodding when Ava tells her she can pull the string.

And she does, effectively catching the turkey. She jumps up, excited. ]

We did it!
drizzle: ((ava) cheerful)

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-12-15 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
As they say: Pop! Goes the turkey.

[No. No one says that, but she thought it'd be a creative way to go around it. With a smile, she'll head on over to the box, using the rest of the string to close the bottom half shut.

A sigh will be given.]

Ready to get the janitor to help us out? I have no idea who to go to for the prize, but the college should have that info somewhere. ...maybe.
spiritoso: (33)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2017-12-15 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I don't want to get involved with the turkey again. [ She really doesn't want to get chased again. ]

Maybe the janitor will know! Someone is bound to know what we need to do to get the reward at least.
drizzle: ((ava) small smile)

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-12-16 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Good idea! It won't hurt to ask and search for intel later.

[The internet did exist for a reason. Ava was determine to help Kaede out with this task. As long as they get breakfast and peace of mind in the end.

She'll be certain to keep the box under her strick supervision while offering to help to carry it until they encounter the janitor for the information they are searching for.]
spiritoso: (07)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2017-12-16 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ Thankfully it doesn't take them long to find the janitor, who takes the turkey from them and happens to know where they need to go to claim their prize. Once the janitor walks away, Kaede turns to Ava. ]

We got really lucky! All we need to do now is go to the administration office to get our reward. I'm glad the janitor is just going to call in so we don't have to take the turkey all the way there.
drizzle: ((ava) confident smirk)

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-12-21 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
It really is convenient! Now if he could just give us a pass to allow us to be late to class.

[The latter was said with some jest in her tone. She doesn't expect to be given any special treatment in having captured an aggressive bird. With a smile.]

Let's go get your reward before heading out for breakfast. We still have time to pick something out. [A slight pause.] Unless you already ate or something?
spiritoso: (69)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2017-12-23 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ She shakes her head. ]

I didn't get a chance to get something before I got chased away from the cafeteria. Hopefully everyone else can eat in peace now.
drizzle: ((ava) nervous laugh)

[personal profile] drizzle 2017-12-29 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[There will be a very over-the-top gasp and pause.]

It really was a menace!

[Nodding her head, with less of an over-reactive performance.]

Mm, hopefully! It'd be nice for everyone to quickly their breakfast and leave to get ours too.

[It won't be long until they reach the main office. She'll open the door and let her roommate through first.]
spiritoso: (07)

[personal profile] spiritoso 2017-12-31 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Kaede nods in thanks as they walk in and get their reward. ]

We should use this to get a nice meal together!
