NOVEMBER TDM
NOVEMBER TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé... What do you mean the city's behaving for once? I. The Mayor's growing desperate with Thanksgiving right around the corner as those gosh darn turkeys continue to elude him. The birds that escaped at the beginning of the month continue to wreak havoc over the city as they mingle with the crowds and lay their golden eggs in less than convenient places. However, with the clock counting down to Turkey Day, the birds appear to be a little more aggressive. You may find yourself actively chased out of a shop or your classroom by one of these wild birds gobbling angrily all the way. Perhaps a bird is nesting in the middle of the sidewalk forcing you to take a new path. Or perhaps you've come across one of their golden eggs, but be careful! It doesn't take more than a gentle touch now for these eggs to explode, showering anyone nearby with surprises such as candy, shaving cream, mud, bugs, plastic cars, crayons or other small tokens. Will you attempt to catch the birds to turn them into city hall for the $50 reward? Or are you too busy running around to avoid them? II. Even with the turkeys on rampage, that doesn't damper the holiday season. Citizens from all over the city are preparing for the festivities of the month. Over at Tribunal Terrace several members from various volunteer groups and the Community Center are organizing their small annual Thanksgiving day parade that kicks off the city's potluck dinner. Grocery stores are swamped with shoppers picking up last-minute supplies for their big meals and you may find yourself fighting for that last jar of gravy. Over at the community theater, children prepare for their Thanksgiving pageant and it's a flurry of activity from costumes to rehearsals to last-minute stage preparation before the big day. There's plenty of work to be done whether you're acting in the pageant or working on-set. The theater will need as many volunteers as possible to pull this show off. Granted, there are plenty of things to go wrong in the chaos. One of the parade floats begins to drift away from Tribunal Terrace and rolls down the street on its own leaving volunteers to chase after it and fight off an onslaught of turkeys. Lights blow out in the theater and some wiring and set pieces need to be repaired. And did that person's grocery cart of food just hit your car? Good luck. Are you prepared for your celebrations and willing to help your fellow neighbor? Or are you a last-minute straggler left high and dry? III. Earlier in the month several stores had discounted prices on all things blue and it looks like the prices just keep dropping. With green fully restored to all items in the city, items such as clothing, art supplies and food change prices every hour, on the hour. The city of Recollé knows a good bargain when it sees it and hundreds of people hit the streets to snatch up what stock they can. It's like Black Friday came early and after a while some stores can't even keep up with demand. Maybe you're among the crowd hunting for just the right shade of green for your holiday packages, or perhaps you're some poor sap who got called into work at 6am on your day off to deal with a swarm of customers. No matter who you are though, you will find yourself having to answer the age-old question: which color is better, green or blue? IV. The blue skies have only been back for a few weeks before the gray of winter rolls in again. The wind picks up a little and the ocean crashes against the shore down at Peach Beach. The city grows dark each day beginning at about 4:30pm and the temperature drops little by little. It's on November 18th that residents will find that there's a bit of frost on their windows when they wake up that Saturday. Toward the early afternoon, the first snowfall of the season begins. It's nothing much, mostly flurries that swirl and dance through the air and cause a burst of excitement among people. Some residents may even remember it's very similar to the Founder's Day holiday. Though this won't be the last time it snows in the city, there's something magical about the first sign of winter as fall exits. Get out there and build a tiny snowman or catch snowflakes on your tongue. At least the turkeys seem to retreat from the snow itself. BONUS. Over the course of the month residents will find that the spotty reception they've always had has grown even worse. Static rings out over the line and long-distance calls stop going through. Emails bounce back despite numerous attempts, and don't even think about getting clear audio or video through Skype. No matter how hard one tries, by November 30th it will become incredibly clear that all phone calls, texts, emails and video chats to people outside of the city have been shut down. The internet will continue to function as normal (browse and share those cat videos to your heart's content) and inner-city communication functions just fine. You can try calling your service provider...but who knows if you'll get through? And last but not least in the world of inconveniences, in some instances your calls and emails may be rerouted to fellow Retrospec users. Sorry about that! Nike Lemercier (Ava) | Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii
[With Thanksgiving just around the corner, Ava never once doubted the probability in encountering all kinds of turkey and turkey-related products to be an all time high. It was just the season for it. One she was excited to properly celebrate with as many of her close friends and family this year; all due to the chances of her being unable to attend her family's yearly tradition.
Nevertheless, the chances of encountering the celebratory bird were high, now if you had asked the chances of encountering a live one, then the response would be quite different. And yet, she had just passed by a handful of the feather creatures throughout her sprint training across the local park, closest to the university. It was an intriguing sight! After all, she was only a city kid that has rarely gone to a zoo or farm of any kind.
Most likely, due to her inexperience of encountering them, it was the reason behind these feather birds having decided to surround her in the middle of the park. The sheer amount would be enough to intimidate anyone, especially with the loud noises some of these birds were currently making while others were simply circling her which made it difficult for her to move out of the way. Thankfully her training in aikido was enough to keep her calm, remembering its philosophy of never becomming aggressive nor being the first to attack while learning to read her opponent which......was sort of difficult to figure out.]
You know, this may just be the worse time for you lot to be causing trouble...
[...what should she do? Forcefully run through the gang of birds, wait for them to leave, or turn the other wa--oh, wait, more of them have decided to close her escape route. There just may be a sigh of frustration at having witness that (even if she found their coordination to be pretty impressive)!]
IV - Thinking & Parkour (with Irish Coffee too)
[With the change in temperature, there will have to be changes in the way she handles outside training until she gains a good enough insight of the city's weather. Fortunately, there were indoor gyms and her aikido dojo to work on her strength training, the issues will have to be the cardiovascular aspects of it.]
...I can always use the treadmill that mother bought for me...
[As much as she didn't want to, knowing that running on a machine wasn't the same as doing it outside, where she can actually move, feel the breeze, and observe her constant change in surroundings, giving her a sense of freedom and opportunities to...
Just the thought of having to stop her other forms of training -- parkour -- was enough for her to stop her balancing over a handrail, increasing the movement, to jump onto another handrail before climbing over a ledge that will have her jumping down onto the grounds leading her to the nearby playground.]
Geez! It hasn't been snowing all that much and yet the ground is already easy to slip on...
[Maybe doing parkour today wasn't the smartest idea, but she couldn't help herself, not when she was beginning to feel anxious at the thought of being unable to move around as freely as she would like. It felt like...]
Hey!? [Yes, she is talking to you!] I just moved to this city. Can you recommend me a good place for coffee?
[And maybe a bar, if they're an adult to ask.]
Bonus
[She had just decided to finally sent her mother a return message after just realizing she hasn't been bombarded with messages from her mother for a while now. Instead of investigating the source behind this strange phenomenon, Ava decided to do the next best thing:]
Can we have a moment of silence for my reputation?
[Sent her a snarky message to bait her with, just to check the degree of her temper with.]
(ooc: AU workshop link is here! It is still not too late to plot for ideas!)
Bonus
Wait, what reputation?
[Yuu plz, that probably won't help any. At all.]
no subject
you aren't my mother, yuuichi.
[Great detective work there, Ava. Although, it is a little suspicious to find her not!cousin-little brother figure to have received the message when it was intended for her mom. Did she make a mistake?]
ouch, though. it's the one my mother has been working on for as long as i can remember. i'm still a tennis player, you know.
[Which she hasn't done a whole lot with after moving to Recolle, but she still had pride in being a decent player all the same.]
no subject
Well, sure. I know you're good at tennis too. I just thought you seemed more keen with parkour lately.
no subject
i am more keen on it! still, somewhat a newb, it may take a while to gain some form of reputation for it. too bad my mother isn't too keen on letting go of the past. then again, she has no idea i am sorta pursuing it right now over tennis.
no subject
You haven't told them? Why not? Don't think she would approve? Who cares what she thinks. If this is what you enjoy and want to do, that's what's important.
I mean. I get wanting to please your family. But still.
no subject
no. kinda afraid to, tbqh. she can get really over-dramatic over things not going her way.
[Among other issues she really didn't want to get into. Yuu wasn't wrong with his assumption over her not wanting to disappoint her family. Her mother, especially. As much as she is taking advantage of her newfound freedom, she knew it could easily be taken away if she isn't careful, no matter if her mother technically no longer has as much power over compare to when she was a minor.]
no subject
Want me to come over and help you talk to her?
[This seems more a family thing. More his Aunt specifically having Issues, so probably Yuu shouldn't get involved but. Ava had helped him out, been helping keep an eye on him since they had moved here and all.]
1/2
no subject
i rather not talk to her about it right now. getting her to accept my decision to go to recolle uni was hard enough cause their tennis program isn't as top notch as she wants it to be.
but, maybe, someday, i'll try to do that. talk to her. i'd feel better having you helping me out whenever it happens.
no subject
But sure. Just let me know when you're ready and I'll be over.
[He's used to her teasing by now. A lot of his friends do it, anyway. Not necessarily with nicknames but in general. Still. He wants to be there for her if he can, somehow.]
no subject
thanks! i know i can count on you for the heavy stuff. although, you can always come over, no problem. roommate is out. wanna hang out at the school?
no subject
Yeah, course. I can come over whenever. Just tell me where to meet you. I'd just need you to let me in if I came there. Since I don't go to uni yet.

ava-chan, what exactly did you do to your reputation for it to require a moment of silence?
also when did you move back?
no subject
oh, is that you arashi?
[after all, there was only one person who has ever refer to her by japanese honorifics, and that would be older sister arashi from high school.]
ever since the semester started at recolle uni. just a few weeks ago. i've been getting everything sorted, sorry for not telling you. are you still around?
[answering the last question seemed more important than the first. since it is such a stroke of luck to encounter an old friend! she was very excited in getting reacquainted with again, enough to forget the reason they receive a message that was meant for her mother.]
I - Turkey Stand Off!
Hey Ava did you want to go-
[He turns his head just in time to avoid walking right into the flock ringed around her. He jumps and backs up a few paces.]
HOLY- UH. I see you've been chosen. All they need is a little firewood and rope for the ceremony.
no subject
[She can't help feel a light chill on her spine as she begins to wonder if her brother was being serious or not over this whole turkey gang up situation. Why did they chose her? Why is she being surrounded for? As much as she hates the idea of being at a loss or being rescued, she can't help turn to the only one she can trust in the area.]
I'm not really in the mood of being sacrificed to appease a turkey god or whatever. Do you know anything about turkeys? I don't want to hurt them....
[No matter how fowl their ploy in cornering her was, she didn't have the heart to harm them neither. They were only animals! They don't have any knowledge of right and wrong as humans do. As long as they don't attack her, then she won't neither. Although, some of the turkeys are beginning to make a loud sound while trying to act aggressive by running towards her, then in the last minute away from her. She was just glad she was wearing pants today, just in case they decide to peck her.]
no subject
[He says this but his tone isn't certain and his expression is even less so. Birds. What ARE they thinking? He has heard enough warnings about angry geese and ducks to not trust a flock of turkeys.]
Any minute now!
no subject
[Ava can't help repeat his words with just as much uncertainty. Seriously. Should she really just...stay put and allow these creatures to do whatever they wanted with her? Somehow, the thought made her feel even more impatient than usual. Her foot will begin to tap for a bit before turning to her smart watch, wondering if she'll have time to finish her morning regimen and hang out with her brother before classes began for the day.
She'll attempt to walk through the crowd of the feather birds; only to find them begin to make the same irritating noise as before which will have her returning their space.]
....okay, they don't like strangers passing through.
[It won't be long until she begins to expect her surroundings, noticing a park bench was next to her, while a lamp served as the only obstacle to the next bench. A knowing smile will slowly spread across her lips before returning to Foggy.]
Hey, bro? One question -- how good are you at running?
no subject
[He holds up a hand and wiggles it with an "Ehh." It's not like he's in the greatest shape.]
Why? What are you thinking?
[That smile on her face, plus running, plus turkeys? He's not sure if he likes where this is going.]
no subject
[Without another ounce of warning, Ava will begin her plan of action by taking a few steps further behind, before getting cornered by the group surrounding her, and rush to the park bench. Using her momentum to reach for the lamp post, twisting herself onto the other side, and leaping onto the next bench, getting her out of the circle of birds and closer to her brother.
Unfortunately, the leader of the group, a tom, will appear out of the group, and begin to rush towards Ava as it makes a sound, getting the group to follow. Ava will rush towards Foggy, reaching for his hand.]
The sooner we move, the sooner they'll be eating our dust.
[And now starts the pulling as Ava runs off with him.]
no subject
[As fun as it is to watch her leap around like she can defy gravity he's on edge the moment the turkeys start to poke their heads up and turn their attention to her. Then the tom gives the call to battle and Foggy's heart begins pounding.]
Shit. Always knew Alfred Hitchcock was on to something with that movie!
[He isn't in nearly as good shape as she is but for the first minute his adrenaline keeps him runny right there behind her.]
no subject
[All said with some happy glee over having an entire gang chasing after them as the tom continues on their trail.]
But, hey, at least these can't fly!
[They just need to outrun them! A feat Ava can easily do in a matter of moments, but she's keeping pace with her half-brother. All they can do is hope they'll be able to run out of the park or make sharp maneuvers to confuse them.]
Any ideas on losing them yet?
[Before she decides to do some dangerous stunts!]
no subject
[He's 98% filled with fear 2% offended.]
I'm not great at thinking when there are a pack of angry animals armed with sharp beaks coming up behind me!
[There is one enclosed building at the park and it's not too far away.]
Hide in the restrooms?
no subject
Their beaks can't hurt as much as getting hit by a speeding tennis ball though!
[Depending on the player's skill, maybe. Not that it'd be useful knowledge to know in this case. Other than to give her brother an ounce of optimism. Hopefully, he understood. Ava could be terrible at this sort of thing. Being the type to be comforting.]
Restrooms?
[Would turkeys respect personal boundaries? They were angry birds and getting cornered may be a very bad idea, but...]
Lead the way!
[...the thought of getting in a tight spot did add a touch more excitement.]
