AU WORKSHOP - NOVEMBER Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. Please respond to the post with the below form, and/or feel free to comment to anyone else to work things out! Please be aware that posting to this workshop does not guarantee you a reserve, and that multiple players are permitted to workshop the same character. Please find our mod questions comment here. Reservation dates can also be found on the game calendar and coincide with the TDM. • For current players who are interested in 2nd or 3rd characters, please review and follow our policy about AC! To reserve a 2nd character you must have a pass for the previous month's AC with your first character. For a 3rd character, you must have a pass for the previous two months' AC for both of your characters. In addition, we do ask that the AC for the current month be met and filled into your AC comment by the time of your reserve. It must be full AC. This means you must have 20 comments between at least 2 and at most 4 threads and one memory regain listed for the current month's AC period. Recolle native born and raised

Jamie's birth parents died so young: dad was killed in a freak car crash when he was in the womb at 4 months, mom died from birth complications after he was born.

Luckily, he got adopted by his parents' friends the Lims who're of Chinese Filipino origins.

Dad (Ricky) works as a pediatrician in Recolle General Hospital, Mom (Anna) was a former English high school teacher before the kids came in.

He has a pair of older boy girl twin siblings (Tyler and Olivia), a younger sister (Kara), and a pair of paternal grandparents (Francisco and Corazon) who're living at Viea Village.

He looks more like the guy who portrayed him in the films, hence no lightning bolt scar and bad eyesight. Also speaks in an American accent (Regain madness ensues!).

From his Mom's English teaching background, he got into writing and reading early on, around 3 to 5 years old, although he prefers to write news articles than poems or novels.

Good Lord, he's quite the social chatterbox, he won't stop talking without someone else begging him to shut up. Also a bit of troll, shipping people for the lulz and often unwittingly interfere with other people's affairs. Don't worry folks, he's still a good boy.

Unlike Harry who thinks Hogwarts is still better than Privet Drive (even with its own skeletons in the closet), Jamie loves learning about different cultures, deeply rooted in his adopted folks' rich cultural blood.

Can't drive a car, but goes around town in his motorcycle (plus the helmet, safety first, kids!)

More polite and obedient than Harry would ever admit (thanks, Ah-Kong, Ah-Mah!).

Multilingual: speaks English, Filipino, and Hokkien fluently, and can speak conversational Spanish and Japanese.

Member in the Book Lovers Club, Video Gamers Org, Cultural Diversity Association, and the school swimming team (this guy is a beast in the waters); wrote for the school newspaper (middle school to college).

Tea drinker, iced mocha lover, and an amazing cook (His mom's cooking is an absolute disaster.)

Had problems with Chemistry, yet manages to work hard to earn an above average overall grade to get him to Recolle U where he earned a degree in Journalism.

Currently working for Recollé Times as a journalist

Hopeless Romantic, yet couldn't find his Miss Right.

He also has a stuffed toy rabbit from childhood Mr. Snuggles to this day.

Actually, Jamie is going to be a Recolle native, so no British accent until he regains it. I assume that they can be co-workers there, friendly at best. Maybe I could switch newspaper affliation if you wish. Also, your character might want out for any of Jamie's unintentional screw-ups with helping co-workers with deadlines, etc. He can be quite annoying at times.

Someone needs their childhood buddy but someone also needs their canon childhood buddy's kid as well AKA hello I play John Lyall aka Remus Lupin here and I would LOVE to work out something of a backstory with you?? John has been an English Lit prof at the University for nearly a decade now so it's possibly Jamie could have had him? Especially if he were in Derek's class!

ALSO it looks like Jamie has a deeper appreciation of English/writing than some of his classmates would have, I've always said that John's teaching style was kind of like Keating from Dead Poets Society, which means that people who get it really love it and him and then there are probably those who don't get it and think he's just plain weird. He might have been associated with some clubs through the years, maybe not which is a roundabout way of saying how much do you think Jamie appreciated him as a professor through the years/how well do you think he got to know him while at RU? :)a

Oh... I saw Dead Poets Society myself, it was quite heartbreaking in the end. Well, Jamie might have him as an entrance exam proctor firstly before he found himself in Professor Lyall's class along with Derek and his current sweetheart. Let's just say that they hit it righ out of the park with their interest in Literature and Prof Lyall could give tips in writing for news, mabye he could be the head of the Book Lovers Club in Recolle U during Jamie's time there. As I mentioned above, Jamie just loves to troll around couple shippings, even pairing Derek with his crush on said girl before they could date each other officially. Even though Jamie wasn't heading for a full-on Lit degree, he still can keep in touch with Prof Lyall even to this day.

You can thank Jamie's adopted mom for his love for Literature and Writing as a whole, she's a former English high school teacher.

Then John certainly does thank her, because he thinks reading and writing are some of the most important skills a person can have, no matter what profession they can go into what is it with you Remus and getting along with Harry's moms...

ANYWAY that sounds brilliant to me c: I can see John not staying on as the head of a club forever, especially because I'm going to start phasing him into high school classes rather than at RU so maybe he turned over the Book Lovers Club a few years back but he was helping to run it while Jamie was there! He'd be more than happy to give tips on writing and help Jamie out by giving him all sorts of extra reading material/practice on the subject, and ofc he'd have been more than happy to write/act as a reference on Jamie's behalf for his professional career! I'd love for them to still be in touch -- John, like Remus, is kind of a lonely bachelor. His wife died so he found himself a teaching job in America at RU and he's been there ever since. (Also similarly to Remus he's technically Professor RJL, Randolph John Lyall, but who wants to be called Randolph anyway, so John it is!)

Well, currently Derek's cat, Blaise, HATES Derke's roommate and teh feeling is mutual.

In september, blaise got sick and puked on the roommates bed, which in retaliation, the roommate threw Derek's paintball helmet out the window.

The owl. I don't know? I do plan on having Blaise and Bronte (the owl) ransack the apartment due to a fight.

Also, where are Jamie's parents from? Are they from the philippines, china, american born?

Well, Jamie's adopted folks are of Filipino and Chinese origins; out of all them, only Ricky's parents (aka Jamie's grandparents) were actually born in the Philippines (legal immigrants to be exact), everyone else were born in the States. Yes they do speak fluent Filipino and Hokkien pretty well for overseas Chinese Filipinos. It's a generational thing.

As for Bronte and Blaise having a hissy fight, let's hope and pray that both of them aren't home when it happens.

Hmm, I kind of imagine Derek going over to Jamie's house a lot as they grew up, and with the whole filipino "must not let guest leave hungry" thing, I'm sure Derek would have gotten his fill of filipino food.

Was Jamie adopted when he was a baby? I wonder if they would have bonded over the fact that they were both adopted.

Also, Derek has already had a few memories with Harry in them. How would Jamie react if Derek says, "To be honest, one of the guys in my momories... kind of looks like you..."

Yeah, that would be notable. Here's hoping that the land lord/lady doesn't fine them with destructive pets.

Yeah, it is nice to know that Jamie has someone to share these experiences, after all, Filipinos are among the warmest people on the planet. A little warning with Anna's cooking though: she cooks like Jamie handling a Chemistry experiment without Derek's guidance; in short, the family's #1 kitchen rule is "Never let Mom step in to the kitchen and burn the house down". Maybe Derek could pick up some Filipino slang words (weh! or nosebleed (not the literal kind) for example) from Jamie's household.

Oh yes, Jamie's birth parents died early so he doesn't have that much closeness with them when compared to his bonds with his adopted folks and Harry longing for his parents, bonds are thicker than blood in this case.

As for Harry looking like Jamie, it'll be like WHAT!?! Jaws dropping in horror!!!

Yes, have Jamie's family smother Derek with love. Derek is a huge chocolate lover, so he would have embraced champorado.

I can see Derek totally helping Jamie with Chemistry.

Due to Derek's childhood amnesia, he still has a longing desire to know who his birth parents are. With Jamie being a journalist, maybe Jamie would know possible avenue's for Derek to search. I'm still working on how Derek will figure out his family stuff.

Oh yes. Jamie's family are more than happy to welcome any friend of their kids. If there is a party being held at the Lim residence, maybe they will try to make sure that Anna doesn't create a disaster in the kitchen.

Sure thing with Jamie's problem with Chemistry, that's what friends are for. This ties in with Harry being poor in Potions initially in the series. Can you imagine how many times he was this close to burning down the school Chemsitry lab?

Jamie will try his best to find some leads regarding Derek's birth parents' death. Have they left something for him prior to the accident?

Well, Derek knows where they are buried, and his visits their graves, even though they are unmarked.

All he has left of them is a teddy bear, which will be getting ripped open this month thanks to Blaise and Bronte. While he and a couple of his siblings are cleaning up he will find a safety deposit box key, which he will realize was inside his bear. Though it will take him time to actually be able to open the box due to legal stuff.

He has found the newspaper article about the car accident he and his parents were in. He found that in highs school when he got obsessive about it for a while. However, due to his lack of resources he really couldn't further his investigation. This is why he became a CSI, so he could have access to the police report. Jamie would know about Derek's search for his birth parents and would have listened to Derek stress about it in high school and into college.

Man, I can't imagine how horrfying it was for him to endure it. So yeah, they have a lot in their hands to sort this mess out. At least that's one clue down, now they've have to hunt down for that mystery deposit box.
