Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. Please respond to the post with the below form, and/or feel free to comment to anyone else to work things out! CHARACTER: Kyo Sohma
CANON: Fruits Basket

AU NAME: Kyo. I haven't yet decided on whether to stick with Sohma or a different last name.
AU AGE: Teens, probably around sixteen/seventeen.
AU OCCUPATION: High School Student. Possibly a part time job but I haven't decided what. If I went with something similar to canon, maybe helping out at a dojo as an assistant or something?
BLURB:
- Disowned by parents after his mother died. Dad blamed him for it. Kyo protested but left anyway because this wasn't his fault and dad is clearly a jerk.
- Taken in by extended family member and taught martial arts to help with his anger regarding his parents and all.
- Large extended family.
- Extended family member pretty much officially adopted him as his own, single dad and his angry son.
- Moved to Recolle to be with his extended family that took him in.
- idk if I want to say he probably dyes his hair if it isn't still that natural bright orange ala ginger cats. Because Cat.
- Probably known to be a bit of a troublemaker with his temper. Gets into fights a lot over teasing with his hair or such.
- idk if I have to give him a Kyoko he grew up confiding in and being teased by and then Tohru and all with au or not. That added guilt and the ONE PERSON he softens around.
- That one cousin/friend that he has this stupid longstanding rivalry with for some reason?
- Has no real plans for once he eventually might finish school. Take over the dojo? Doesn't seem the academic type but does actually shut himself in his room to study on occasion when tests come up or something.

LOOKING FOR: Family members, friends, classmates, students?, teachers, people to gossip over why his parents might have ditched him like that idk.
OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: I have been eyeing this game for months with this premise and potential. I'm still not decided just who to bring exactly. Some I've played before and have apps more or less ready sans samples/au section. Kyo being one of them, which would make it a little easier. Other's I'd need more of a refresh. But I've been tempted for months so I want to app eventually. Laphicet is probably the other one I have tentative ideas for and something of a cast here overall? But I'm still deciding who to bring.

He was the one I initially posted to the workshop for....ah, months ago, haha. I was debating between happy home life or referencing Magilou's Menagerie with growing up with a circus troupe sort of deal.

Well now that I am here as Magilou he could literally just be like, Magilou's adoptive son or something. Idk.

Adopted son that once he might regain the malak visibility thing that next to nobody could see or hear. Best hide and seek player, clearly. I already have him at Empatheias but this also has potential. I love the premise a lot.

I mean by the time he gets that back Magilou would probably have her resonance back, at least partially anyways(given that's the thing I'm focusing on regaining first). But yeah, Phi will be the hide and seek master for everyone but his mom.

Last time I posted, I kind of talked to Mikleo and Sorey that one of them or both could idk help babysit maybe because resonance/also being a malak/seraphim at least. idk if that would help Magilou or not. Like I said, I'm still debating things with who to bring in and all at this point.

Thats fine, and yet, they could totally help Magilou out if she doesn't have her resonance back at that point. And yeah, debate all you want, it's just a suggestion.

I would say app Oz, but that just seems too cruel. And I've been rereading Fruits Basket lately and have been hit with the nostalgia hard. Pls bring Kyo.

I can offer him Tatsuo, this guy, who is an assistant instructor at the Utsuki Dojo. Kyo could come teach at Utsuki... or heck, Recolle is a big city, it can totally have two dojos. Let's be rivals.

I'm currently workshopping Lenalee Lee (

invocate) from D.Gray-Man. She' a foreign exchange student from Hong Kong who came to Recolle to study dance and will be a senior in high school. Maybe her and Kyo could have some classes together.

Oz is one I'd definitely need a reread for, haha. I'm not sure I'm that horrible. Reasons Clementine also wouldn't be my first choice to throw here either. As much as I adore her.

But hm. Either option could work, Tatsuo helping him out there or being rivals because competing dojos. Lenalee is amazing though, I applaud this choice. I lost track with DGM forever ago with hiatus etc but I loved her and Allen a lot.

Just think of the multilayered memories... I mean...

If Kyo were at Utsuki, he'd probably be assigned to handle a beginner's kids class. ;D just saying

Hahaha I stopped trying to understand wtf is actually happening in D.Gray-Man years ago. Luckily Lenalee doesn't need to know all this convoluted fourteenth nonsense.

Teaching the bitties. I could see it though. Yes. Kyo isn't....the worst with kids at least? Unless they are brats like Hiro, I mean. Ahem. He could manage that much, probably. It'd be good in starting him off with it at least, teaching.

There's some info on the locations page about Utsuki Dojo if you want to check it out. I've just been vaguely NPCing the other staff as needed. ATM there's old Utsuki who started the dojo 30 yrs ago and Mrs Ogawa, who is this little old lady in her 70s. Her backstory is that she used to teach hand to hand combat for various police departments.

Tatsuo's been studying at the dojo since he was 10, he's now 30. He started helping teach the kids when he was about 17/18, but has been teaching the adult beginners for about two years now.

But srsly, a dojo rivalry would be totally fun, so if you decide to go down that road you have my full support.

Have you watched Hallow? Because that totally woke Lenalee up after like... five years of silence. And now my library is getting in more of the 3-in-1 volumes that I feel like a marathon reread is in order.

I might need to, yeah! I've mostly gone over the basic premise and such thus far. I haven't sat down to read all the info pages just yet. But Mrs Ogawa sounds precious, oh gosh! And lbr Kyo needs at least one rival in his life because otherwise what is ambition with this cat.

I have not watched...any of the anime, actually. I just never caught it before, and I think the new stuff probably starts out past whenever I lost track of with the manga, haha. But I know the manga is online and I have the first....what four volumes officially. I know Hallow is out on animelab so I could watch it once I catch up. Eventually. Maybe.

She's modeled off a karate teacher I had once. Her knees were giving her problems, but her hands were like iron.

Also, let's be real, we're all just anticipating Kyo regaining the curse and wtfing at the unfairness that is turning into a cat when a girl hugs you (Lenalee would think it adorable btw)

LOL yes, catch up on the manga first. The first season is about 50% filler if I remember correctly.

You say this like au Kyo would be all that much more inclined on the hug front. But yeah this is true. Kyo's initial ???!!! over being a kitty would be hilarious. Or if he was sick enough for the transformation.

Manga definitely sounds easier then.

I haven't entirely decided yet. But Kyo is a nostalgic fave and one I'd already mostly have an app for at least. And yes. He has something of a temper in canon, this is true. He'd still have it with au, just less....guilt and complex regarding the curse? This is a very basic throw up something to see what sticks sort of thing with the au, honestly.

I know the allure of old nostalgia. A lot of my choices for characters come from there.

And yeah, I could see that. Just a little something to see what interest you drum up, and maybe if this, or the other idea, feels more like something to actually try.

Yeah, not all of my characters are from the latest interests. A lot are from older series, really. Kyo being one of them.

But yeah, basically. I figure linking my muselist with this will help others suggest ideas for others as well if they see other characters they might have ideas on or want to see.

*nods* You've got a very solid list. I could think of numerous ones actually proving very interesting. Kyo is one of them, but it's kind of like looking at the buffet and not being sure what you want. ^_^ They're all good.
