The gist basically is in canon that Laurent's uncle is essentially a paedophile, and abuses Laurent when he's like 13 and keeps excessively young and pretty 'pets' that he loses interest in when they get too old. He's also a manipulative jackass who keeps a squeaky clean public image and always manages to twist things so Laurent is this Troublesome Nephew who is lazy and neglectful. He's the canon reason for Laurent's father dying although Laurent doesn't find out for sure for a long time, and I'm -- PAPERING OVER A LOT OF THIS IN THIS AU clearly and losing the abuse by keeping his brother alive as a buffer (in canon, the rest of Laurent's family winds up dead so there's nobody to protect him). But ICly in Recolle I imagine his uncle is still creepy and hiding it, just -- off screen!
