Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. AU NAME: For the time being I'm keeping it the same. Might change if I rework her backstory.
AU AGE: 20
AU OCCUPATION: Medical Student!
BLURB:
♫ Rich girl from Japan. Her father runs a hospital and her mother is a highly successful doctor.
♫ Had a few friends in high school that she (probably?) lost touch with, but was generally a bit anti-social. Spent most of her time alone in the music room playing piano.
♫ After high school, came to Recolle (and therefore America) on a scholarship to Recolle U.
♫ Her parents were hoping for somewhere even more prestigious, like Harvard, and blamed her hobby. There was an argument, but they still send her money. Maki figures she took it more personally than they did.
♫ Lives in the dorms, since it's more convenient.
♫ Still a bit of a loner, but without much of the piano part - studies keep her busy, and what happened with her parents was enough to put her off it.
♫ That said, she loves music so much that she still finds time to at least go out to concerts and bars with live music and such.
♫ Stubborn, socially awkward rich girl. Easy to mess with and draw into dumb arguments.
♫ Generally likes people, though, she's just kind of awkward about how to approach them. She tries to put up a barrier so she doesn't have to talk to people much, especially since she figures she'll be heading back to Japan once she graduates, but it's about as much of a wall as a sheet of bubblewrap.
♫ Enough of a hipster that she buys a lot of records. Will absolutely say that 'the sound feels more real,' compared to an MP3 or CD.
♫ Found out Santa wasn't real when she was 17.
LOOKING FOR:

♫ Music buddies. People that play, people that just like it, anyone she can talk to about it.
♫ Other rich kids. When did you find out Santa wasn't real?
♫ Younger friends. Maki's got a bit of a protective/caring streak in her, so despite her best efforts she'd absolutely pick up some younger sibling types. She just can't say no to a cute face, basically.
♫ Doctors/nurses/other medical professions. Maki's passion might be music, but she genuinely likes the medical field, too. It'd be nice to have some professionals she could look up to.
♫ College friends. Especially ones that'd drag her out to parties and/or 3 am Taco Bell trips.
♫ People to argue/banter with. Could also fit into one of the other categories, but yeah! Maki's stubborn and a little sheltered, but also very smart, so it'd be easy for her to get into a lovingly(?) antagonistic relationship. She's mostly never mean, but she can banter with the best of them.

here i am, happy to offer you another piano player buddy! makoto doesn't really do much for that as a hobby, despite replaying songs he had to study, but it might be good to know someone else who plays it?

They can both be socially awkward about playing it as well as socially awkward about not playing it. It's perfect!

Not to mention she'd probably appreciate hanging out with a level headed person like Makoto. Even if she's twenty here, she's still a bit sheltered. Help her out here, Makoto.

just come on by to the bookshop and buy yourself some jp novels or cute stationery, no one judges at the tachibana's... but yeah! makoto will try to be useful to his senpai!!

She could use some jp novels! and, uh, maybe the cute stationery... if no one judges, no one judges.

makoto is a big fan of the stationery too! he's happy to know people who like it, too, without shame...

izumi here is also well-off, and he already knows that santa doesn't exist anyway. can't believe someone actually fall for that. guess he has no choice but to tease her about it every chance he gets

he's also a college student majoring in music, so maybe he's seen her around playing the piano casually?

look her parents bought her everything she ever wanted cut her some slack!! they were protecting her dreams!

And yeah, that seems like a good fit. Or maybe they've seen each other at various music-related hangouts? (she's definitely gonna be lowkey jealous that he actually got to major in music)

eh, he only majored there since the only thing he's good for aside from modeling is his decent singing voice. it's nothing special.

but yes, they can be music buddies. well, not exactly buddies, since izumi here is known to be a bit of an asshole sometimes. hope you like a bit of petty banter, ki-chan

Also if he's in a music major and mostly just sings she is absolutely going to try and make him learn at least the basics of piano, if he doesn't already know them.

(he'll def think about her offer though, it'll have interesting results when his memories of being an idol in canon comes back to hit him)

Yuuko's a rich kid and graduating this year, but her father is a successful doctor at the local hospital. He might be more aloof than Maki is, though, and he definitely likes working he (and his residents) overtime. Maybe Maki's training under him or at least familiar with him? She could have met Yuuko at the hospital while Yuuko was waiting for his work to be over (it never is).

OR since they're both rich kids from Japan, maybe they knew each other from when they were younger? Yuuko's dad could have known Maki's parents, so they might have been childhood friends (or acquaintances?), albeit not as close as Yuuko and her bff Nobu (

notbunaga).

Probably familiar with her father? At least gone to him for advice a couple of times.

And I think them having known each other in Japan sounds good? Probably not especially close, but they hung out some while their parents were talking? Maki was a pretty shy kid, so she probably didn't make too much effort to be the closest buddies ever, but it was nice to have a girl around her age for when her parents were going on for hours with other adults. Didn't keep in touch when Yuuko moved to Recolle, probably?
