Hello! I'm not entirely sure of how they could've run into each other, but I'd love for Kiryu and Brett to know each other! Brett used to be a delinquent up until the past year or so, so maybe Kiryu saw him vandalize something or whatnot, idk (though as he's now trying to get into law enforcement after he graduates from high school, he might be the opposite of a criminal type??). Coincidentally, his dad's also in jail, except not innocent, oops.

but mostly this is because I glanced at Kiryu's app and I'm amused at him and Brett being complete opposites in that in canon, Brett's an extremely judgmental and somewhat murderous police officer—

Where there's a will there's a way, let's do this thing...!! It's honestly a canon thing for Kiryu to wander into these weird situations and help/get swept up into random circumstances so it's totally plausible for Kiryu to have spotted him vandalizing a thing and have stopped him to try and see what his deal was. If Brett even had a good enough reason, Kiryu would have... even helped... or tried to talk him out of it anyway, how does that sound/how do you think it would go?

oh, trust me, Kiryu's dad is definitely not innocent, he's got a ten year sentence for a reason... Kiryu's just woefully naive...... which is beautiful because yes, he becomes a non-murdering yakuza THIS IS THE CR WE NEED

HONESTLY Brett probably would've gone ??? and stopped out of pure not knowing how to handle the situation, since he's not... used to people trying to be understanding or whatnot... While he wouldn't necessarily have opened up to Kiryu and he was probably still kind of a rude shit, he wouldn't have been hostile, at least! Just "what the hell is with this guy???"

Kiryu problem-solves through kindness, forgiving and ass-kicking when all else fails... except he's gonna be a wimp in Recolel at first so that last one isn't an option. He's just a really dumbly nice guy... an actual pure cinnamon roll who inevitably befriends every criminal
