AU NAME: Mariko Kawaguchi
AU AGE: 31
AU OCCUPATION: I was thinking of making her a Cyber security consultant for Law Enforcement? She probably does something unsavory on the side...
BLURB:
-Only child in a middle class family
-She was formerly a collegate athlete - a swimmer - but was sidelined by an injury and turned her attention to computers.
-She had a habit of turning over black hats (who primarily did sloppy work or were more exploitative than she was comfortable with) to a government employed friend and he ended up helping her get a job.
-Personality wise, she is friendlier over-all but still has her tendency to mess with people and her unnerving ability to accurately predict the behavior of the people she works with.

LOOKING FOR: Friends, Hacker buddies, old college buddies. She's probably got more than a few exes, and maybe a rival hacker or colleague that can't fucking stand her.

Um. So, Togusa's preeeeetty much think of him like pre-canon, but if he never had someone like the Major notice him. Beat cop, been trying to prove himself, five and a half years on the force now. He'd been slated to make Detective, but an incident a year ago where Togusa couldn't fucking leave well enough alone, made him miss his possible promotion.

Japanese Immigrant for school. He went to Recolle University, was doing pre-law by way of a criminal justice major, but changed his mind on law school and went to the Police Academy after graduation instead. Was really involved with the Japanese Student Union.

What can we do, how can I help, who can I throw you at?

Also, Togusa's dog is named Daisuke.

Okay, I kind of want them to be college frands. Bonding as international students, especially if he was student union.

Right now I'm trying to figure out her family sitch. Part of me wants to have one or both of her parents alive, part of me wants the crash to have happened.

The temptation to name her father Daisuke is reeeeeally strong.

DOOOO IT, that's funnier than the dog.

If they did go to college together, then Togusa will also drag along his bestest friend Koutarou Takao, who is an artist and general cool dude.

Geez, so what if Mariko was one of the reasons that Togusa shifted away from law and into police? His decision came about because he turned out to not be okay with what he saw as trying to twist the law to fit a case, and wanted something more absolute. But what if Mariko helped him come to that conclusion?

Okay this helps me nail down her back story a little. I think I want to car crash and i think that she and her dad lived and her mom didn't.

She started hacking because she didn't feel like the sentencing was strong enough and originally just wanted to find other dirt on the dude. Then she discovered how much 'normal' people hide and hilarity ensued.

Fairly athletic most of her life, she had to slow down after the crash (it happens to her when she's a little older, 13-14 compared to OU), the injury that sidelined her in early college (I want to say Sophomore year?) is something that was maybe aggravated from the crash previous?

But anyway, the second Togusa's dissatisfaction with the court comes up, she'll probably nudge him in the direction of being more active in making the world better.

I also realize this might give her a soft spot for other vigilantes (which she technically was until she got the legit job)

Ahem, sorry. I kind of want CR between Kusanagi and Chris, but maybe less "can't fucking stand her" and more "vaguely uneasy that she can brick his tech without him knowing"? Like, an uneasy sort of respect thing.

Although he's kind of a goober, so he's a prime target for being messed with.

Also: aaaah, Ghost in the Shell is, like, one of my favorite series ever. Used to stay up way late to catch it on the TV.

Also because Togusa is insistent on trying to use him, a minor, to do illegal hacking business??? COME SAVE YOUR IDIOT COWORKER, MAJOR.

Insistent? No, wait, ~~Mom~~, I had no other options at the time! I can totally cut him loose. It's not too late. Really.

Wow, now he's trying to FIRE A MINOR HE DIDN'T EVEN HIRE OR PAY! Do you see this? Tim is being exploited as a last resort by the police department.

You use the tools you're given

and, kid, if you're half as good as he says you are, I'm assuming you have something to tip to his superiors in case you actually get sore about him leaning on you.

Also, hey, Major, Tim here is why I fell down that rabbit hole of spirituality in GitS.

HAHA I'm sorry but also not sorry because I love deep philosophical and existential humanity crisis in science fiction.

Naoto is probably very interested in computers and IT as they pertain to law enforcement, so that's a thing that could happen?

YES! VERY YES!

Oh my, a major. You don't see her running around that often. I'll admit that I'm very interested in CR here, but I suspect that the two of them have little reason to have crossed paths just yet. AU Chloe is generally quite legal (aside from using fake IDs to sneak into clubs) and legit and works as a florist at a flower shop right now. This, on top of about a 12 year age difference makes it a bit unlikely that they'd know each other beforehand, unless they've run into each other socially very recently (It'd likely be the last six months or so, possibly even within the span of the game).

Maybe Mariko was someone Chloe once asked "So, do you remember horses?" in a bar one night, but when the question got an odd 'no, what the hell are you talking about?' she dropped it and just tried to chat the older woman up normally.

I like this idea very much actually. Especially as 'Mariko' begins to get her memories back - it should be really interesting
