CHARACTER: Roderic Daniel Pyre; Canon / Roderic Dennis Valdez; AU
CANON: Original. Comes from a world with filled with typical superheroes, bad guys, and conspiracies. He was a secret government test subject, a metahuman engineered to be a loyal wetwork agent for the government. Meaning lots of sadness and pains and tests. As a result of the abuse, he ran away to New York and was the unwilling but trying sidekick to his friend who wanted to be a superhero. Shenanigans and tears ensued.

BLURB:

AU HISTORY
An orphan who was first found at Viea Village's fire station as a baby, Roderic spent time in the Orphanage before being placed into a foster family at the age of five. The family - wealthy, successful, strong ties to influential people - seemed too good to be true and that was the case. They only wanted the very best and it didn't matter what it took to get there since they were obsessed with getting the best and brightest under them. So they forced him to study and practice under harsh conditions and he faced harsher punishments for over three years.

It eventually culminated in him passing out in the middle of a school day due to being faint from hunger and telling the teachers/doctors/police/people about what was going on. Thankfully, his social worker pulled him out of there though he has no clue what happened to the foster family after that. It'll almost be two years since he was pulled out from there, having been happily adopted by the neato Valdez family (

commandertoolbelt) who had helped him a lot, and is about to turn ten this year. He is very excited about the new opportunities ahead of him because nothing can go horribly wrong now!!

AU PERSONALITY
First impressions of Roderic aren't that great: He's rather shy and nervous around strangers, a mixture of his normal demeanour and from what he experienced with the foster family in the past. Loud noises, from bangs to yelling, can easily make him break into tears and he seizes up when something stressful happens. But if you're willing to dig a bit and get to know him, Roderic is more than a fretful kiddo who'll hide behind a wall and peek around a corner.

His curiosity and his love for learning thankfully is still alive and well, allowing him to retain a love for knowledge and a desire to know the world around him. Having gotten out of his previous situation early enough, he isn't as awkward or nervous around people as he was in canon. (Or as bitter but hey regains!) It pushes him to speak with people, learn from them, and allows his happy, cheerful self to shine through once again. He's loyal to a fault for those he loves, willing to defend them to keep them safe and sound, and he loathes bullies after coming to terms with what happened to him with the family. Roderic is still growing up but he's learned a lot in his short life and who knows what else he'll learn soon enough.

LOOKING FOR:

Friends! His age, older than him, and far much older than him - Roderic just wants to make buddies with people. He'll hug his friends, ask how they are, and even get them presents as signs of friendships! (Just… please… don't mind the possibility of his gifts exploding or catching on fire…)

People to ask questions!!! In his history that I'll be expanding on, he'll have a reputation of sneaking into college during the weekends to learn more during workshop and anything mechanics/invention making related. And he'll no doubt pester older students and other teachers to learn more about them and what they do and what they're studying and etc. He'll be the best little assistant ever in return!!

Particularly the person who figured out something was wrong with if anyone's interested in that? He would be so grateful to the person and consider them one of his role models/idols/best friends and be very clingy yet sweet and hero worship them to the max. Could be a teacher, a law enforcement officer, a nurse/doctor - Just anyone in a position of authority over him who trusted his words and blew the whistle on what was going on.

Roderic is the best little assistant ever and he'll leave little gifts and notes and everything for sure. Probably even hide when attempting to leave a gift since he'll get really shy. /o\ He'll be a good! The best good.

Maybe after Roderic has been pulled out of his first home and needed to get check-ups? So when he was around eight-years-old. That'll be roughly around a year of knowing each other! Would have been so shy and quiet for the first few visits and hiding behind anything he could.

Wow, I happen to have a social worker right here! He would have been really new at the job, fresh out of college, but if you'd be interested...?

I would be very interested in this angle! In my head, Roderic cares a lot for his social worker who he knew was always trying their best to help him out. He would be pretty shy most of the time but I feel like with Fai he would have opened up sooner rather than later and been more talkative, curious - Definitely would have cards and gifts for him whenever he dropped by to check on him!

Ahhhh this sounds great! Seeing Roderic placed happily in a good new home would be great for Fai, to help remind him why he's doing this when he's knee-deep in essays for his Masters classes and working himself into the ground. This child is happy now and this is what it's about.

And he probably still has every card hanging on his fridge because he's a sentimental dork. I love it :3

Oh my gosh I'm so excited for this CR it sounds so sweet. Roderic will do his best to be nice to Fai whenever they meet and everything.

I'll keep an eye out for you during the TDM!! I can't wait for them to meet in the game and have this wonderful CR together. It really warms my heart just thinking about it!

And before I forget to ask this question again - Would it be fine to mention Fai in Roderic's app when talking about his history due to this connection?

I'm really looking forward to it too! I've got Fai up on the TDM here, although if none of those work for you I'm more than happy to brainstorm something else for them or hit yours instead :3

They were!! Roderic would have been known for being very shy and hiding behind things before opening up to people. The nickname Rodnyan definitely make him smile since he thinks the nickname is cute and silly and like Algira in return. \ o /

Also yes Roddy and Koutarou need to have met!! Maybe Roderic comes in with all the money he saved (in a jar and everything) to ask for a little painting to be made for someone he cares for? Then he just keeps visiting Lemon Leaf Atelier because the art is so pretty and wants to ask questions?

=D Algira may or may not have been a bit too forward in his friendliness, he has a bit of a problem with personal space.

That sounds cute, Koutarou would definitely like to accept that commission. And yes, he can drop by any time that he wants to.

Roderic is going to try and best to not be too nervous. Algira is trying his best, he tells himeslf. /o\

And yes perfect!! Roderic is going to be the most curious bee in the world. Would it be alright if I mentioned these bits in my app? o /

He's going to make a survey and powerpoint presentation and everything to prove dancing fruit is not normal and you cannot make him eat an apple for snacks anymore. Keeping the doctors away or not. Roderic is going to be super confused by everything but do his best to roll with it and follow his brother's lead.

For real I'm stoked they're going to meet up at laaaast in game. Threw in my reserve just now and going to hit up the TDM soon with a top-level. He'll be in this round, just you wait!
