Well, I do have it that Ruby's a guitarist, given that a key conceit with our Yang is 'RWBY Rock AU' elements. But, Ruby hasn't yet actually joined a band! But she is a music-engineering major at the university, so any of the music-department stuff could end up with them in the same class and meeting that way.

With a lot of comedy promptly ensuing, naturally.

Weiss is a Business Management major with a minor in Music Theory. They can totally end up in a class together.

Maybe they get assigned to a project together or something?

... I am picturing a 'capstone'-type, semester-long project, which Ruby gets positioned to lead to the surprise of both of them considering Weiss is obviously the better choice.
