JANUARY AU WORKSHOP
AU WORKSHOP - JANUARY Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. Please respond to the post with the below form, and/or feel free to comment to anyone else to work things out! Please be aware that posting to this workshop does not guarantee you a reserve, and that multiple players are permitted to workshop the same character. Please find our mod questions comment here. CHARACTER: CANON: BLURB: Here you should write what you have for your AU; your character's age, occupation, name, hobbies - that sort of thing! Just let us know what you have. LOOKING FOR: Are you looking for family members or friends or enemies for your character to be pre-planned? Or are you asking for ideas or feedback on your AU idea? Anything goes, just specify what you would like. OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: Are you torn between which character to app? Let us help! Post your ideas in a comment and let fellow players offer feedback and CR ideas. You can also use this section to ask for canonmates you would like to see in-game whether it be in your specific AU or for different CR. |
MOD QUESTIONS
Political power & government infrastructure
- Are state or federal agencies or organizations (like the army/air force/navy, FBI, TVA, etc.) active in the city, and can we apply with our characters in positions in those organizations?
- Is it acceptable for players to app characters into powers of position where they would have some measure of contact with the mayor? Such as chief of police, city attorney, treasurer, etc.; and, if no, what would you suggest as solid alternatives?

We do have a military base as stated on the Locations page; otherwise, there's the police force and general government buildings. You may apply for positions in those organizations, however...

Players may work up to promoting their characters in-game with mod approval and time, but we ask that they not be apped in as the highest rank from the start. For example, no player will be permitted to hold the chief of police rank or be the general of the military base. While it is possible to hold a job that gives some measure of contact with the mayor, the mods will not be regularly NPCing him for any purpose other than events and plot.
We hope this helps!

- There are no federal agencies or bodies which would supercede city authorities outside of the shared-use military base
and
- Characters should be apped into middle-management government positions to work their way up over time, and do so in the understanding that any 'mayoral' contact would be mostly handwaved status-quo situations.

Correct, though the military base is run by General General, and his authority would not be superceded in the military sector.

That is correct! Mayor Mayer is a genuinely amicable fellow, so it can be assumed that most interactions with him would be generally pleasant; we do ask that players keep in touch for handwaved interactions with him just so we're up to date, however.

WOODS...
I know there's areas on the locations page, but is there an area of woods in the city particularly for camping/on the outskirts? I ask this because I think students can take advantage of it being a cool hangout zone, school ppl can do field trips, and families can have horrible family vacation camping trips there.
I know we have areas of fields and the beach, just wanted to see if there was an option for adding that or if we would need to wait until we are technically...in..game... to request.
(im so sorry guys)

After conferring on the matter, we've added to the locations page the Recollé Woods, which can be found outside of the city just off of Apprassage. We hope this answers your question!

If not, that's fine too, but I wanted to double check first.

Of course, I was going to play out that she has that gap of memories that are missing were written out in her journal so while she wouldn't have the memories itself she would be able to access the knowledge of the time period that she's missing.
When she regains her analysis ability - which would allow her to retain the memories she wouldn't have this issue anymore, if that makes any sense. If you need me to elaborate further, I can if necessary.

In reviewing both this comment and the comment above, we would also like a little bit of an elaboration on how she would be able to start retaining the memories and how she would trigger memories if she doesn't have access to those memories via memory loss and can't retain them for x amount of years. How are the memories written out in her journal? Are they provided by someone else? If so, what reasonable belief does Ryoko have to believe these written accounts? How would she regain her analysis ability?
Our apologies for all of the questions but given the nature of the canon we just want to have an idea of how this particular piece of the world of Dangan Ronpa would reasonably be translated to an AU to reincarnate Ryoko aka Junko. Thank you in advance!

With the way I was planning on playing her AU, I wanted her to keep her memories until the accident - or to be more specific, retain the memories - so she would have anterograde amnesia or something similar to that. She can recall things for a short period of time, but not for long periods of time. As for who writes the journal, the memories are written by herself while the event is happening, if that makes sense; if that's not possible, I can go with another alternative option, but I would prefer to mirror canon in this case, as she would be able to recognize her own handwriting, seeing as it wouldn't have changed all that much from the age of fifteen to, let's say... seventeen.
As for her analysis ability, since the FAQ says that SHSL abilities would be considered regains, I would most likely have to do it that way - correct me if I'm wrong - if that makes sense. Of course, since it is also anterograde amnesia, I am willing to cure it alternatively through having her see a doctor through surgery, therapy, hypnosis or some other method, since even with the loss of memories past the event that would have caused her amnesia, the memories are still stored in the body and cell memory.
I apologize if I'm going around in circles or if this sounds confusing but hopefully that makes sense to you guys?

With the explanation provided it’s fine to have her keep her AU memories of her AU life until the accident. It’s also fine for her to be dealing with anterograde amnesia if that’s the route that you choose to take.
While it’s fine for you purchase a regain of her analysis ability with bonus points as per our regain items rules, for something as canon-specific and almost supernatural as an SHSL skill, that is something we would prefer be paired with a memory regain as well.
So with that being said, yes you’re allowed to do this but we would suggest it might be best to have the amnesia cured via an alternative method so that she can start regaining her memories and recall that she has a special ability, at which time with enough points a SHSL regain may be purchased. This could serve as an interesting starting point for building CR and giving Ryoko/Junko motivations in-game to work with others and seek out other people.
We hope this helps and answers your question!

On Bishops and Da Church
Long story short I have some ideas that may tangentially involve canon law, to the degree where it may at some point be useful to have an NPC bishop available. Would it be alright to say that there is a Diocese of Recolle whose cathedral is the main catholic church in town ("cathedral" being a technical term for the seat of a diocese regardless of the actual size of the church building) and that there is an NPC bishop
whose surname is probably Bishopwho like the mayor is friendly but unremarkable and spends most of his time doing administrative stuff and attending charity events or whatever? Also can the church be called St. Anthony's because Anthony is the patron saint of lost things and I have a terrible sense of humor?

You're also cleared to name the church St. Anthony's. We hope this helps!

Would it be acceptable for me to transpose this history to some made up super small probs idk east European former soviet country (I wouldn't want to use a real country if possible, just make it something made up and not a major player in the world so ridiculously easy to not have heard of)? In canon Char is suspended from the military several times, so I'd like to say he is currently suspended from made-up-country's-KGB program and has come to Recollé to spend his time until recalled. As such he's taken up a different trade in the city (ice skating instructor probably) and probably has a fake identity thing going on so he can live an everyday ordinary life.
My main reasoning for wanting Char's backstory to be outside the city rather than something translateable inside (like mafia/company/business wars) I'm going to say straight up is so he doesn't have a reason to be going around trying to bring down any PCs or NPCs in-game, but still has that revenge!!!! part of his backstory that makes him

After reading through this and discussing amongst ourselves, we're fine with this! So long as Char isn't listed as the highest rank of the military possible in his AU (as to keep things fair for our players/adhere to our guidelines that NPCs currently hold highest rank) it's perfectly acceptable for him to have a fake identity and fake backstory so long as the real one is also included in his app.
Of note, however, the Retrospec app will display his real name until PCs can come up with a way to change the program, but that's probably not a problem. Don't worry about that!
In all seriousness, we hope this helps!
