AU WORKSHOP - SEPTEMBER Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. Reservation dates can also be found on the game calendar and coincide with the TDM. • For current players who are interested in 2nd or 3rd characters, please review and follow our policy about AC! To reserve a 2nd character you must have a pass for the previous month's AC with your first character. For a 3rd character, you must have a pass for the previous two months' AC for both of your characters. In addition, we do ask that the AC for the current month be met and filled into your AC comment by the time of your reserve. It must be full AC. This means you must have 20 comments between at least 2 and at most 4 threads and one memory regain listed for the current month's AC period. AU AGE: 15
AU OCCUPATION: Student, juvenile delinquent (no I'm kidding), rock climbing instructor/attendant at a climbing gym
BLURB:
-Born in the United States, moved back to Japan as a toddler and has been traveling back and forth since he was a kid.
-Has traveled around the world due to his father's position as a diplomat.
-The youngest of two children, he has an older sister named Rei.
-Both children are considered gifted and beyond their years. While Rei breezed through school and graduated from university early, Hiro never truly applied himself and he's currently in his sophomore (10th grade) year.
-Despite the fact that Rei's much older than him (5+ years) he idolizes her and she's generally the only person Hiro really listens to. As such, when Rei moved back to Recollé permanently Hiro argued a case to move with her. Hoping that their youngest would use the move to gain experience and follow a political path (or at least calm tf down), his parents agreed.
-He's been living in Recollé for a few years now with Rei acting as his legal guardian.
-Despite all of this, Hiro finds himself pretty bored in a classroom, and he's the more rebellious of the two siblings. He's one of those kids who's very smart but doesn't often apply himself, if ever. He has a passing interest in science and enjoys tinkering with stuff but he doesn't often pursue his ideas. He's an avid artist though and has sketchbooks of ideas, comics and etc.
-He spends a lot of his time out of the house trying to experience what life has to offer him. That just…kind of includes hanging out at local skate parks, the occasional bouts of graffiti, other extreme sports such as snowboarding and rock climbing, and going out at night to small gambling rings.
-While the Hinos aren't poor by any definition, Hiro feels like he has to pitch in to help somehow and uses the money he earns from his less-than-legal exploits to help pay for things so he and Rei can splurge every now and then.
-Unlike his sister, Hiro isn't as invested in trying to stick with his Japanese roots. Sometimes he'll tag along when Rei volunteers for stuff but in spite of living in Japan for years he's not immersed in the culture.
-He's sort of aimless because he doesn't really know what he wants to do with his life, especially since he doesn't want to be involved in politics and his connection with faith is hit and miss, but at the end of the day he also knows he doesn't want to disappoint his family.

General notes/hobbies/asides:
-He does have a legal job. Hiro works at a small facility as a climbing wall instructor/desk attendant. He has a great love of heights and will be the first person to scale a very tall structure without warning.
-While he's not science whiz-kid like in canon, he HAS created a few small machines just out of boredom and seeing what he can do. Instead, he spends time taking apart electronics and modifying them. He also makes video game mods for fun. He's still good with his hands and often times tries to improve the electronics the Hinos have around their house.
-Owns a ferret…named Max…he loves his ferret and nobody can take him away from him.
-He still has kind of a hard time bonding with kids his own age since he used to stick close to Rei, not to mention still being caught between two lives/cultures whether he wants to be or not. He doesn't bother to deal with it though and tries to engage as much as he has to.

LOOKING FOR:
-Friends! Hiro and Rei have bounced back and forth so it could be friends who knew him from one of his stints living in Recollé as a child, or friends he made when they officially moved back (it's been a few years since they officially settled in the city.)
-People who loiter at the same haunts Hiro usually haunts. The climbing center, parks, comic book stores, etc.
-A tutor. He doesn't actually need one, but his teachers probably assume he does since his grades are pretty bad.
-People who try to mentor him and give him direction tbh, please help him
-People he's scammed out of money from his gambling stints! People whose shops he's left art on. Etc.
OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: Second time around, but maybe with an AU that sticks. I'm not sure who I was kidding when I thought I could get away with not playing him full time but here we are.

Xiaolang and Hiro are definitely going to be schoolmates since he's (finally!!) in high school now, but depending on how long Hiro's been in the city, they could have went to middle school/been in the same robotics/tinkering club before he graduated, maybe?? Or maybe had the hilarity of him tutoring Hiro even though he's a year younger than him? They probably would have something to bond over, like being displaced kids with guardians that are more like siblings to them, so?? idk it's 6am and I am just hyped to see Hiro here ok

HI LUNA, PLEASE GIVE ME CR WITH SYAORAN THANKS. I actually tried him here before like May of 2017 and his AU was too boring so I dropped him...so here we are...

I really like the idea of them actually being two kids that managed to bond over something really unique, and I think he'd at least sympathize/empathize a little with Xiaolang's position. Given there's only a year age difference I think it's 100% feasible they were part of some of the same clubs and worked on little projects together and while he's not super open about it to most people he still geeks out when he's actually making stuff. It'd be nice to have a friendship based on that kind of stuff, too?

Look I'm here for it is what I'm saying, I'm down for them knowing each other for a couple of years because of all of that and immediately slamming into you once he's in-game

Hey! Gambling rings you say? Sounds like a place a thief might want to pick some pockets.

I thinking they might have met up at some point and came up with a few scams together. Hiro cheats their mark, Al steals from the spectators?

Maybe Al tried to pickpocket him, Hiro scams Al out of his money(which was mostly stolen). Then Al keep coming back to try to win it back and they sort of eventually bond?

Just a few ideas, from one delinquent to another.

(Plus, when Hiro gets his nano bots it would be awesome to see what he does with em)

That's a possible route, yeah! I think he'd limit himself when it came to actually stealing since as far as Hiro's concerned he's at least cheating people out of their money honestly and openly with his own skills. (No one said Hiro had the best moral compass.) But I can definitely see them getting into some trouble over the years and having this tentative "I kind of trust you as far as I throw you but I know you'll have my back so I don't actually get killed" kind of bond!

Absolutely! I think I saw that you also reached out to Ax about Derek knowing Rei just from knowing her around town, so I think there could be that connection too? He's...kind of still a brat and even if he's not applying himself to stuff he's still very smart and will think he knows best, so I hope Derek's up for the challenge.

...on the other hand if he ever learns Derek's a wizard he'll absolutely be fascinated.

May has kind of moved away from the smalltime hood life now that she's a pro wrassler, but she still keeps tabs on the kind of stuff he'd get involved in with the gambling scams. hell, she may have been someone who's had to get him out of trouble before. through punching, because that's what she's good at.

Sure, that could work! He tries his best not to get caught but sometimes you're a teenager and you do stupid shit. I could see them knowing each other because of this kind of stuff for sure and even if he tries to be stealthy and smart May could probably hear about any time he wins a huge bet of any kind.

I know we talked about this a bit before but Luna and Hiro as not-actually-bad delinquents together? She's just about a year behind him in age and school but they could've met back in middle school easily enough and bonded over troublemaking.

Yes, absolutely! They've always had fun cr in their past iterations that I think it'd be fun to try it again. Even if she's a year behind I think he'd at least befriend her and some kids in the grades below so I feel like it's 100% plausible for them to have bonded and become friends that way.

I’m here for the art — and I guess some talk about not sticking too much to home roots? Yusuke doesn’t have any contact with the larger side of his family in Japan and really only focuses on his recolle life so... there’s a chance for some perspective on that, maybe?

Becks...plz...gimme Yusuke and Hiro, they would actually be really cool together. I think Hiro would also appreciate having someone around that gave him a perspective that it's not a terrible thing to not be connected to family roots. He waffles on wanting to please his family and wanting to go against them because he doesn't want to follow what they want from him, so having someone to be like "my guy, it's ok" would benefit him a lot.

But also they can talk loudly about art for nine hours in japanese because I think it's hilarious

Absolutely! Hiro lingers around there a lot so it's 100% reasonable that he and Kurt have run into each other and got to talking.

!! Luna and I have talked about Hiro and Syaoran/Xiaolang knowing each other in middle school and being part of the same kind of robotics/tinkering clubs and working on projects together, so I think he could definitely know Sakura by proxy? They're only about a year apart iirc so it's not that much of a stretch. He probably would think she's nice enough but still not entirely know how to talk to her because she's way too pure (but he'd be friendly enough with her, and it gives us something to work with for the future.)

Hello there Ty!

Lucy is the older sister of Luna in this AU, and she's been in Recolle for about two years. She's...not exactly the best role model except in How To Delinquent, so I don't think Hiro's parents would approve. She's on usually decent terms with Luna, so she could have heard of/met him that way? She's also May's friend, so that's like two potential points of entry.

consider: hiro tried to scam rose out of money with a gambling stint but she caught him at it because she's just that shady. instead of getting mad though she just taught him better tricks for scamming and gambling......

she would be the worst person to have as a mentor since 1) she's awful, 2) she's just as aimless BUT IDK IF HIRO WANTED TO LEARN OTHER WAYS TO PUNK PEOPLE AND WHATNOT..... SHE MIGHT HAVE SOME SUGGESTIONS........
