JANUARY TDM - OVERFLOW

JANUARY TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé. A beautiful city with beautiful people. The place you call home. It's a wonderful home, isn't it? With everything you could possibly ever want right at your fingertips, why would you ever want to leave? In honor of this glorious city, the residents of Recollé are preparing for its annual Founder's Day celebration…you'll help out, won't you? I. Recollé Square is bustling with activity today and several residents are working together to pitch a large tent. Others are working together to decorate the fountain of the founders with flowers and streamers. Children and dogs run through the area and there's song in the air as everyone works together. Are you one of the people helping with the streamers? Or perhaps you're holding the ropes of the tent taunt so it doesn't blow away? Hey, maybe you're catering the whole event to feed those hard workers! The choices are endless…but you might want to catch those balloons that are starting to float away! II. Meanwhile in Chata, business is booming as everyone crowds the parking lot of Freshens trying to fight their way into the store. You really should have thought to buy your groceries much sooner. Everyone knows that Founder's Day is one of the best potluck days and, weather permitting, picnic days. Are you having any luck getting into the store? Is that the last rack of ribs? You better hurry and snag them! On the flipside, shop owners in Chata are busy setting up food stalls and merchandise tables in preparation of the main event. The smell of sweets and spices fills the air and you can't help but follow your nose to check it out. The vendors are all friendly and happy to give away samples of their goods in the hopes that you'll be back in a few days' time. Or maybe you're one of those vendors hoping to attract customers for Founder's Day. Do you have all of your supplies? Your permits? Is that teenager trying to steal apples from your produce stand? Everything's a little chaotic in the days before Founder's Day. III. The work doesn't stop there. Over in Tisse it's party central with flashing lights, sound tests, and a festive atmosphere that says the celebration's already started for several businesses. The line for Expressive is out the door with customers eager for their Founder's Day special. Be careful, you might have to finagle your way through the crowd. Throughout the day you may hear music and mic tests coming from the Atrium as the local schools work together during their dress rehearsal for the Founder's Day Pageant. You might even have an insider's look if you're one of the students in the pageant or one of the stage hands helping with last-minute set design, costume alteration or any of the other countless things that could go wrong. The employees at the boutiques inside the Towers are bustling as well, swapping their floor displays and handing out flyers and coupons to shoppers to encourage them to come back for their big sales. Maybe you are one of those employees and now you're dealing with some wicked papercuts, or maybe the smell of butter is seeping into your clothing as Flix opens its doors to an early marathon of historical films depicting the life and tales of the city. Tisse is most certainly the busiest of the districts today, but there's still so much to be done! IV. Most important of all, back in Tribunal Terrace residents will find Mayor Mayer out and about today which may seem unusual. The Mayor tends to stay inside City Hall keeping the city running from there, but today he's speaking with someone handling a large truck. People passing by may hear some scurrying from inside the truck, the sound of claws skittering on the metal floor, and…is that clucking? No, wait, now it's the sound of hoofs clomping and the whinny of a horse. What's going on in there? Maybe you should investigate and ask around. Employees working for the Mayor will only give you a strange look in response, and the Mayor himself is unavailable for commentary…but it can't just be your imagination, can it? Upon further examination and questioning residents will be told that these are horses for pony rides for the kids on Founder's Day, but that doesn't stop all of the weird noises. What on earth is going on? BONUS. Despite the festivities and the light-hearted mood of the city, it's still winter. Like all winters prior, it's chilly enough that you'll need a warm coat outside, but the storm season has passed. Instead, today in all districts there's a light flurry of snow falling, snowflakes gently twirling and landing on your shoulders and in your hair. It's not enough to stop the work, but it may send several people to crowd inside coffee shops for a hot drink or shops to take a break from the cold. Bet you weren't expecting that influx of business, were you? And later…much later, in fact, those carrying cell phones or tablets will feel a jolt from the device. A closer look will reveal that a new application has started to install itself on these devices, but you can't seem to open it right away. That's a bit odd, isn't it? It might be wise to check other devices in the city to see if the application's installed itself. Upon further investigation, though, you'll find only a handful of residents have the app installed. The app pops up on any public computer you may use but fades away the moment you log off. Strange, strange, strange. Once it fully loads on your device, you'll find that the app, Retrospec, appears to be a social media app with the option to friend people, share statuses, pictures, videos and more. Those sections are currently blocked out, however. Take some time to fill out your profile if you'd like; that portion of the application seems to be the only one that can be accessed currently. All other social media (Facebook, Twitter, and regular texting) are accessible, but the app itself stubbornly remains on your own profile page. Welcome to the recolle test drive meme overflow post! [ an overflow for this top-level. her au name is ainsley menodora and she's a 39-year-old elementary school teacher. if you'd like to plot some cr, feel free to hit up my workshop comment! always looking for friends of her age bracket and current/former students. assumed cr for these threads are a-okay along with new tags. ]
[ helping decorate recollé square had to be one of her favourite pastimes during founder's day! there's just something so heartwarming about gathering together and helping one another make the holiday even more festive.
ainsley can be seen on a ladder, helping putting on streamers when she notices a balloon floating by her. she finishes pinning the streamer first before she drops everything she's doing to try and grab it, thinking a quick swipe will do it. unfortunately for her, the inconvenient timing of someone bumping into the ladder just as her footing slips causes her thoughts to go from 'this will be easy' to 'this will be bad!'
very bad. it causes a chain reaction of her loosing not only her nerves but also her footing and her grip on the ladder. ]
Ah-! [ that brief, yet surprisingly loud, yell is the only thing she gets out before she falls and crashes to the ground. quite hard. alas, nothing was conveniently below her to cushion her fall so she took the full burnt of the fall damage.
it wasn't that high, she was only almost halfway up the ladder, but oof. ohh… this is going to leave a lot of bruises on her tomorrow morning, she can feel it. ]
ii;; and the warmth of seeing familiar faces.
[ while the expressive isn't a place she'd like to be during the height of founder's day - a lot of people, a lot of noise, a lot of suspicion that someone is buying more coffee than they should be for themselves. - the liveliness and the warmth it exudes makes it a fitting place to meet someone she's been dying to see for a while.
having arrived two hours early to make sure she can get them both a table, she's been passing the time by reading a novel she's been dying to finish for a while. so absorbed she is of the plot twist it just revealed to her, she didn't realise the person she's been waiting for her is right beside her until she hears a sound.
that's enough to snap her back into reality, her face turning red as she snaps the book shut and smiles an apologetic smile at them. ] I'm sorry for that. I-I was just finishing up a very exciting chapter.

And that's it for today, class! [ well, not really. she could properly finish the class by asking them questions about the chapter they had just read for their book sarah moon and the morning room but it's friday and she can tell the children are becoming restless.
so she lets them out a few minutes earlier than they should be out, knowing they can simply pick up from where they left off on monday. perhaps the children will be more focused on their lessons when the exciting promise of founder's day has come and gone.
she's a bit excited for the celebrations herself if she had to be honest. it meant there's a strong chance she could find some new books to read at some stalls. those are her thoughts as she begins to clean the blackboard of her writings and lessons while she gives her usual last words of the day. ainsley thinks none of the children will take up the offer, given the flurry of activity she hears behind her, but it never hurts to always extend a hand out to them. ]
If any of you need to speak with me about anything, be it lessons or advice, please feel free to stay in the classroom a bit longer while I clean up. I'll always make time for you all.

[Ardyn is a lot of things, and at the very least he's a punctual man. He doesn't step through the door of Cabin 11 in 20 minutes, or 25, or even 28, but an exact half an hour later. It's busy, but not overly crowded, and so he doesn't have much difficulty finding her at a table nearby. Her white coat is pristine-looking against the contrast of darker hues surrounding them.
Speaking of darker hues, Ardyn himself is dressed in mostly black, topped off with a long black overcoat that sweeps behind him as he walks. (An odd sort of contrast between the two, though he's thought nothing of it up until now.) Grinning, he takes a seat across from her, amusement in his eyes.]

she grins upon seeing his arrival, excitedly waving him down as if she thinsk it'll difficult to spot her in the crowd as the bar is just getting into the full swing of activities. his compliment has her grinning, looking proud someone liked her latest purchase since it's rather rare for her to get anything new for herself. ]

[ her compliment is a sincere one; the overcoat is a nice touch in her opinion! added a bit of mystery to him that she thinks she'll never be able to figure out. if she couldn't since high school then chances of figuring it out now is kinda slim to none. ] I already ordered us some drinks but feel free to add anything to it. It's been lovely so far. I got so many presents for you and the others to give later. Just need to wrap them up first. [ they were definitely overpriced considering what they were - simple charms and keychains and bookmarks. from what she knew of their prices before, they were tad expensive but... she'll let it slide for this one occasion.
all in the name of supporting everyone participating in founder's day. founders' day, she reminds herself briefly. that'll have to stick sooner or later, surely. ] But our conversation earlier reminded me that there'll be a PTA meeting at the end of the month. I'm torn looking forward to it and fearing some of the parents who may come to it.

[ she's serious. for all her years of being a teacher for children, she never got a handle of how to deal with the more… forceful ones whenever she had to speak with them over certain topics. grades were a particular landmine. ] I have to admit, I hope the feeling is the same for you.

Moreso when you all but trip into it by accident and don't want to hurt the person who tried to give themselves to you.
I hope this works out well for everyone in the end. They just want to be happy.
And you? How are you readings so far these days? [ in both the sense of fictional reading and the sense of educational reading. she knows the students will be in full swing of their studies in college soon; ainsley hopes anya has been doing well in those regards. ]

More difficult... and less time for leisure reading, unfortunately? Even in high school, I'm surprised! I am impressed how people are able to juggle everything that they're interested in. The world is so big and there is so much to know...
But I still try to read the installments of the science magazine that Mama and I get delivered! That is something that I cannot compromise, I think.
[A little bit of a cheeky answer - Anya's always been a student with multiple interests, always picked up from school even when she was young just to go to dance practice immediately after - but it seems that the one thing that she's remained steadfast on is her love of the stars.]

Pursuit of studies won't always be one of interests, especially in the early years. The most I can say is that I promise you that you'll have a chance to really pursue the ones you love in the future.
Long as you do well in studies of course. Which I know you're excelling in. [ anya was one of her brightest students in her early years of teaching, sticking out in her mind whenever she recalled grading papers and asking for answers.

sometimes, it surprises her how much time flies by. after a quick reminder to look for a possible graduation present soon, she happily answers yukiko's question since there is something she wanted to tell her. ]
My week has been lovely so far. Cynthia finally got to read her story to the class and everyone loved it. [ she beams as she recounts the day, how bright her student's face was when her classmates and friends said they loved the story of the brave lady mouse who saved the prince from a dragon. ainsley was always happiest when the children were happy in pursuing their goals, getting deeper into their hobbies and learning what really excited them.
though this story does lead into a predicament she's facing right now... ] The children want to make a play out of it soon but one of the student's mother, Mrs. Garder, also suggested we can head to Peach Beach. It's so rare I get willing parent chaperones for a trip. Now I'm a little torn what to do next time we meet.

Hmm. That's a good question. I mean, the beach might be an interesting learning exercise this time of year, right? It's not really swimming weather, since it's still winter, but for kids that age it may be more fun to get out and play. You know, instead of having to remember lines...that kind of thing.
[Though, that may just be her thinking. Remembering her own class from when she was a kid. They had all the rowdies in that class!]

As for me, I've just been helping around the BnB, and with the festival preparations. There was a lot to do, and I never realized just how much work goes into Founder's Day.

ainsley listened to yukiko speak with rapt interest, engaged and intrigued while hanging on to her student - former student, she told herself yet again. - and what happened with her. she's an adult and ainsley would always do her best to respect her as one. ] I'm glad you were able to give a hand out at BnB. It must have been so hectic considering how many people come here for the festivities even start.

when the colourful red wrapping is pulled off, it reveals the present is a ringbinder notebook. big enough for important notes but small enough to carry around without the worry of too much bulk. the front cover says, 'i found this humerus!' with - what else? - a drawing of said bone that has a smiley face on it just below the words. this is definitely from ainsley.
and, of course, there was pack of sticky colourful notes tapped on the top of it. these are in the theme of a first aid kit, coming the form of bandages and gauze strips and so on. ]

I'm planning meet ups for the Astronomy Club! I've been keeping tabs on the sites EarthSky and Space and it turns out there'll be so many events for us to observe. There'll be comet showers all throughout the year and some possible shooting stars and we'll get to see two of the five bright planets. Two! And one of them it'll be Venus which means-
Oh! [ whoops. she manages to catch herself once again, looking embarrassed that her love for stargazing got the better of her. ] … I'm so sorry, Albert. Looks like I got carried away again.

A young man with brown hair and I last saw him wearing neon pink shutter shades and a hoodie since he was carrying his cat around. [ surely it won't be hard to find this person if he's carrying around a cat. ] I believe the cat was also wearing pair of shutter shades too.
