MAY TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé... ...well. Good luck! I. You might've noticed by now that some things in this dear city of yours are a little...weird. Most of the buildings and landmarks around you are only partially visible and the world appears to be covered in all kinds of strange colors. As you step out the door today, you can't quite shake off the feeling that you're being followed. Every time you turn your head, nothing appears to be in your line of vision but the creeping sensation won't go away. However, with one final well-timed turn you catch it out of the corner of your eye: a large paintbrush dripping in your favorite color, floating in mid-air. The brush doesn't seem to go away no matter how long you look at it, but one of two things happens here. For those of you who grab the brush, you'll find yourself suddenly yanked forward as the brush guides you to a nearby building, bush, or busy sidewalk, the colored paint splattering everywhere but leaving behind a black finish instead of the original color. The brush has a mind of its own as it brings you right next to a friend or a stranger to get to work. They must have a brush, too. For those of you who ignore the brush, however...well...it doesn't like being ignored. As you turn away the brush zips forward and begins to paint your face. And your arms. And your clothes? Hopefully someone will come by and try to help soon! II. With that exciting chain of events out of the way, it's time to get to work! It's not hard to notice what it is you're supposed to do now. Certain members of the city have paintbrushes similar to yours and only those with brushes can restore the city as it was. Individually painting the area will highlight all items in black, but pairing up with someone else's color will allow for a bit of color to attach. Blending the brushes together will generate new, bright colors that will stick! Two reds can paint an object red while a red and a blue can change an object to purple. Of course, you're free to go at it alone. There's nothing stopping you from embarking on this journey with your own two hands. On the other hand the longer you work by yourself, the higher your risks become of unearthing something you may not want. One minute you might be painting a garden bench back into existence when suddenly a sound alerts you that something's wrong. The object seems to warp right in front of you, sprouting teeth, eyes, and even sometimes limbs. Non-stationary objects such as vehicles, animals, postal boxes and more will begin to chase painters around all five districts of the city. Stationary objects will do anything to grab you in their grasp and stop your hard work. The only way to soothe these objects is to mix up a new color and douse them with paint, but that just might be a little harder than it looks while you're on the move. III. The strange thing is that even with a large portion of the city invisible to the naked eye, by now everyone around you has accepted that this is just how things will go. If you talk to your family or friends or teachers or co-workers who are without a paintbrush, they'll simply tell you that even though it started a few weeks ago there are other things in the city to worry about. They'll tell tales of people with powers and weird physical changes that shouldn't be possible and they'll point out the thinning monsters that are roaming the city and cleaning up the stray paint. Despite this, life is expected to go on as normal. Classes are still in session and your employers expect you to be at work on time. Grocery stores are up and running and if you can find them several of your favorite businesses are still open as well. Maybe today you're in class procrastinating on a school project, or perhaps you're staring out the window at your boring job waiting for the next time you can catch a break. If you're brave enough, you might be one of those who wanders the half-missing aisles of Freshens because your family still insists on their cookout this weekend. This appears to be the new norm...so what are you doing today in the lovely "city" of Recollé? IV. Several citizens have been using their brushes to expand their horizons and paint beyond the limits of the city, working to recreate the roads to go back to other regions. While this will require far more work and dedication, some of the paths are outlined and cleared. Granted, with the revival of the roads comes the revival of a few other creatures including monsters of varying breeds. Have you ever fought a monster before? No? Well now's your chance! Some of these monsters are easy to take down but others will hunt and attack. While the paint brushes won't do much to deter the creatures themselves, they're useful to paint new hiding spots until you come up with a plan of attack. That counts, doesn't it? Good luck out there. BONUS. Perhaps the strangest thing of all is that your phone works. It's fully functional, colored and solid without having to repaint it into existence. Being able to send texts and check maps are vital tools in the restructure of the city, but at the same time it comes with something you may not want. The Retrospec app appears on your phone and even without setting up a profile you'll find yourself receiving a message from a Retrospec user named Zee Carlisle. Bad timing, this was really bad timing! Hey newbies, sorry, we are a little swamped with the stabilization process right now but let me kick you to some people who can help out. It's all the text says before you find yourself redirected to a private chat with another Retrospec user. Don't be shy now! Say hi and ask all of the questions you need! Welcome to the For current players, please remember that TDM threads can only be used for bonus points, not regains. I - Lesson learned: always follow the first rules of horror
[Upon awakening on that very morning, a trickling feeling of “awareness” will overtake her mind, an inkling sensation as though she had just remembered something important; it was discomforting to say the least. The feeling of deja vu and dread was ominous at best, and instead on fixating over it she decided to deal with on the best way she can by jogging.
Early stretches and exercise was always the best way for her to relax and put everything in perspective. Unfortunately, she’ll come to learn it won’t save her this time around, especially when her surroundings felt and seemed very strange to her. How long has the city looked so plain? She could’ve sworn it didn’t always seemed like this…
Goosebumps will appear over her arms, as though a chill breeze abruptly appeared, but…]
Why does it feel like I just landed myself in a horror film?
[Someone was watching her very closely. Something. She is hoping for the former than the latter. Today was clearly not going to be her day! Not when a giant floating paintbrush has appeared out of thin air! All Ava could do was give a startle yelp as she headed to the nearest wall to protect her back from any other crazy delusions.]
How!? This can’t be real! This can’t be…. [the end of my everyday life, will be left unsaid. All she’ll do now is close her eyes, cover her ears, and huddle as much to the wall and herself as possible. Too bad the floating object had other plans once it realizes its own predicament: it’s being rudely ignored and needed to convince the owner they were real! And the best way to do it? Painting all over the girl! Which prompted another whimper out of her, realizing: she just broke the rules of a horror film and was paying the consequences for it by being in one. Again.!]
Mix of II + III - Attack of the fountains!
[It took some time for her mind to wrap around her current realization: some weird supernatural stuff was happening again, but it doesn’t mean her any harm. On the contrary, the floating paintbrush has been prompting her to do nothing more than to paint and spread the sky blue color around the city. Ava was more than willing to give it a shot! After all, it’ll help the city regain more color and look less creepy. It should be simple enough!]
Just gotta find whatever looks blue before, right?
[All asked to her guiding paintbrush, as it was pulling her around in the middle of the day and in public, which will leave her feeling rather curious about the attention she’ll gain. So far, no one has noticed, or rather they would stare but look away just as quickly. Odd. Then again, she does remember it being normal for other people to not realize strange happenings neither. Unless they had the app, of course!
Upon noticing a bird bath at the park, Ava will quickly head towards it with the intention of using her paintbrush.]
Can’t do much about the material it’s made of! [But she can still restore water! Which she will happily do, by soaking her paintbrush into it, awaiting for her handiwork to be finished in a matter of seconds, but a sudden noise will catch her attention.]
….um, does that sound mean it’s finished or…?
[Before she could even respond to her own banter the fountain will begin to tremble and suddenly snap close, it was fortunate that Ava’s reflexes were quick to respond as she takes a few steps away from it. Whatever was happening to the fountain, one thing was clear: it was pissed!]
A-Ah, I guess sky-blue isn’t your favorite color? [All said in a weak tone, hoping to chuckle about it, but teeth and eyes will appear out of nowhere, gaining an uncomfortable look especially after noting the sudden appearance of birds surrounding her. An annoyed look will be given.] Attack of the birds, part two!? Just without turkeys this time?
[ Doesn’t seem like her joke was very clever as the birds will begin take flight, signalling the clue on it being time to run for dear life! Which she does at full speed because she knew someone with more experience will come to save the day! Maybe acting as distraction will help speed up the process? ...hopefully.]
Bonus
Okay, give it to me straight.
What are my chances on surviving all of this for the second time?
[More like, what are the chances she'll 1) end up talking to an experience user, and 2) to a useful one? Because it doesn't feel like she doesn't have any right now.]
bonus (I'm sorry in advance)
seriously tho what do u mean by second time
(np! she can handle anything that ain't a ghost!)
Would you believe me if I said I am getting serious deja vu over this whole situation? I just wanna know my chances of adapting to all this again without, you know, feeling like I'm gonna go insane?
[More like: she cannot handle this freaky shit. Why are you making her go through a horror film again? Can we not? She can't handle the supernatural at all!]
no subject
does that stop her? absolutely not. ]
you know what they say about getting a taste and then never going back

As much as I like the idea of double dipping, especially when you find just the right chip, I don't think I wanna go at it again in this party.
Not when there's rumors of weird stuff spreading about.
[...or maybe not, bad humor is a go after all.]

sounds like high school all over again

After that, it got all dark, and the subway system became a popular spot to explore after that. Don't know why.
no subject

last time i was out of it everyone went on some rpg style adventures in some alternate plane
a fight broke out over someone looking for a toilet

[For once, she appreciates the mistletoe bats, random ice spots, and sticky candy!]
I don't think I got to see any of that. Do you remember the season it all took place in? I know most of my stuff happened between the end and beginning of the year.

monsters attacked people and most people
like me at the time
didnt give two shits about it
i came too in september but i dont remember when i zoned out again
no subject
It's understandable how you don't realize it. I even remember the feeling of living a normal life with some occasional issues popping up, but knowing it'll be solved one way or another. Just like everything else in life. Did you feel that way too when zoned out?
no subject
like some fucker wrecked the tree in my yard
all i could think was
one less thing to rake
no subject
Then how would you describe gaining the awareness of everything again?
no subject
it fucking sucks
no subject
Don't mind me while I fully agree with you on that.
Returning to all of this again, and with less color no less, it does suck.
What has everyone been doing all this time?
I seriously want to know how we came to this point.
no subject
no one figured it out before
and if they did now does it matter
still happens
still out there ruining lives

[All the same, it was a relieve to know no one has died from the app yet; especially someone from her family. While all at once, she didn't feel comfortable knowing they were still using the app too. It made her feel guilty in having forgotten all about it.]
so, you're still an active user, huh?
i don't know if i should be happy or worried in knowing that.
[It was....difficult to decide on which in all honestly. What has she missed?]

[Part of him is relieved to have the two of them to talk to while the rest of him feels horrible about that because of what it means they both have to go through. In the secrets he is still keeping from Mika especially.]

[It'll take some time before Ava adds more text because she is most likely crying tears of joy right now! Her stubborn
and friendlesscousin has finally made a new friend!]wait. does that mean you made a new friend? when did he arrived to this city? i don't remember meeting him at all!
no subject
[Ava he has friends. Not many, and not all are that close, but still. He's. Getting there. Slowly. It helps that he had already been here for months and seems more longer term a thing to stay here in Recolle at least.]

[As much as Ava wants to celebrate the thought of Yuu having someone else to rely on, she can't help find his sudden appearance very convenient; however she's certain it may have something to do with the app and its odd ways of doing things.
Really. If she truly thought about it, she should be feeling grateful in knowing that Yuu wasn't entirely alone for the time she wasn't around at all. She felt better about it, but..]
i'm glad he's here. you two have a lot of catching up, or have, i'm sure. what kind of person is he? are you two getting along well?
[...the guilty after taste was still there.]
no subject
[Ava was family. Adopted family, but still. Well, perhaps the same could more or less be said about Mika, but even so. His relationship with each of them is different. Yuu couldn't ever replace either of them. Not that he might realize she might feel guilty or worried somehow. Or bitter.]
I mean. We still fight a bit, but that's nothing new. It's not as bad as when I was a kid. I don't lash out so much now. But Mika's great. Quieter and more sensible or whatever I guess, in comparison to me, but he has always been the smart one out of the two of us.
