AU WORKSHOP - MAY Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. IMPORTANT INFORMATION World Changes FAQ Game Calendar Plot Finds (ooc knowledge) • Please note: you need a reserve to apply, so please plan accordingly! Reservation dates can also be found on the game calendar and coincide with the TDM. • For current players who are interested in 2nd or 3rd characters, please review and follow our policy about AC! To reserve a 2nd character you must have a pass for the previous month's AC with your first character. For a 3rd character, you must have a pass for the previous two months' AC for both of your characters. In addition, we do ask that the AC for the current month be met and filled into your AC comment by the time of your reserve. It must be full AC. This means you must have 20 comments between at least 2 and at most 4 threads and one memory regain listed for the current month's AC period. BLURB:
✦ From New Jersey, businesswoman mother and Irish immigrant father, parents estranged
✦ Mother was always working and otherwise lax in parenting, so his father took on raising Dwyer; has been controlling, demeaning, and demanding of Dwyer since he was small, causing him intense stress that developed into chronic fatigue syndrome
✦ Exhaustion and depression severely impacted his school career, pushing his father towards more verbal abuse, which fed right into his exhaustion and depression
✦ When his school said he'd have to repeat his last year of high school and neither they nor his father seemed to be helping him, Dwyer's mother finally put her foot down and insisted Dwyer live away from his father and try to get himself back on track in Recolle's excellent school system, sent him to live with her sister about a month or so ago
✦ Enjoys audiobooks of all kinds, videos on "life hacks" and tips to make daily life easier so he can conserve his energy
✦ Observant, values people who work hard and are kind in the face of adversity, especially school nurses and the service industry.
✦ Is pretty much hopeless re: his future, doesn't think he can do anything but secretly wants to try to do a lot of normal things like get a part time job or have a pet or join clubs and meet people - he just has so little energy
✦ On a good day, will make his own lunch and bring it to school, and it's usually like a sandwich or leftovers repurposed somehow. On a bad day, he just throws an apple into a brown paper bag or, when he's home, is the kind of person who's too tired to do much other than eat peanut butter out of the jar with a celery stalk if he has to make his own dinner.
✦ His fatigue issues are undiagnosed, mostly because his father refused to get them looked into; is used to being avoided or made fun of for being sent out of class for drug testing because he's fallen asleep at his desk, and does not have a lot of experience with people that isn't being defensively snarky.
✦Enjoys learning about Irish history and culture and Celtic stuff, but will not admit it aloud

LOOKING FOR: I'd love an aunt for him and any uncle or other aunt/cousins that might come with that! Since I'm playing him as fairly new in Recolle I think family would be the primary connection he'd have. I'm also super open to plotting out potential new CR to make if I can manage to get accepted.

I don't think I can help with the relative bit but I can offer up either one of my guys as a neighbour that can sympathize on shitty families because they both have them.

Kiyoshi's cooking for his kid and niece every day anyway and can make sure Dwyer gets proper food (he's a glutton that can't allow people to starve or eat the same thing all the time) and Koutarou can cook when he's actually home (but he'll probably more often be seen walking into things because he has his nose in a sketchbook) and he feeds this one stray god on an irregular basis anyway; Kiyoshi lives in Crimson Crest and Koutarou in Birch Hills, but he also has an atelier at the bottom of an apartment building in Apprassage.

A neighbor willing to cook for him? That would be pretty incredible and also really sweet! I hadn't really decided on a specific location in the city that Dwyer would be living in yet but I'd be down for this!

She's not a recolle native, but she has been staying with relatves here for a good number of years. She's since moved in on her own, but she loves all of her family because her own dad can't be bothered to stay in town for any length of time at all.

I didn’t specify it, but I’ve imagined AU Varian to be of Irish descent. (The surname I’ve given him comes from an Irish alchemist.) He’s into that history, albeit not as much as he’s into science. Still, if Varian is able to find out about Dwyer’s similar interests, that could be a springboard for future CR?

And... I’m not sure if Varian’s father was Irish, but his mother was, and if Dwyer’s mother is of Irish descent in addition to Dwyer’s father, we could find a way to connect the families maybe? I’ve been toying with the idea of keeping Varian’s mom alive, anyway, because... Lots of orphans, heh.

But idk! Let me know if anything sounds intriguing to you! I think their different flavors of “problems with dad” could lead to interesting CR, is what it boils down to.

Yeah I think that'd be great future CR! Though getting him to admit to the interest is like pulling teeth, hahah...but dad problems factor into that! Hm hm, there is potential here I think.

As for his mother, I've kind of been keeping her background pretty open because idk if someone would necessarily want to be his aunt, but if that changes I'll let y'all know!

Hmmmm, well off the top of my head, mabye he would be someone that Al would justify stealing for...although he would try to be sly about it and possibly deny that he is dropping food in front of you(or possibly putting a gronala bar in ur pocket or something) Would also identify with not knowing wat to do with is life

Sorry for the late!!

Noah and Dwyer are going to end up in the same year since Noah's going to be a senior. Noah's a pretty sullen guy who sits in the back and wears hot topic, but I could see him stepping in to stop people bullying the guy if he happens to be near.

Aw shucks that'd be nice. Hopefully he won't get a lot of crap, but he is new in town so he's already got attention on him...we'll see how the school year plays out.
