AU WORKSHOP - MARCH Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. Please respond to the post with the below form, and/or feel free to comment to anyone else to work things out! IMPORTANT INFORMATION World Changes FAQ Game Calendar Plot Finds (ooc knowledge) • Please note: you need a reserve to apply, so please plan accordingly! Reservation dates can also be found on the game calendar and coincide with the TDM. • For current players who are interested in 2nd or 3rd characters, please review and follow our policy about AC! To reserve a 2nd character you must have a pass for the previous month's AC with your first character. For a 3rd character, you must have a pass for the previous two months' AC for both of your characters. In addition, we do ask that the AC for the current month be met and filled into your AC comment by the time of your reserve. It must be full AC. This means you must have 20 comments between at least 2 and at most 4 threads and one memory regain listed for the current month's AC period. Genesis Rhapsodos | Final Fantasy VII
CANON: Final Fantasy VII
AU NAME: Genesis o’Reilly
AU AGE: ~30
AU OCCUPATION: Bookstore owner/bookbinder (specializing in repair and restoring)
BLURB:
-Born in Banora Point, NSW, Australia (yes, it exists)
-Father is Irish, Mother is Japanese. Both are from wealthy families.
-When he was about 4 he had come down with a severe case of pneumonia that left him with a weak constitution and asthma.
-He spent a few years in the Japanese countryside to see if being in a more rural area would help (and his mother thought Japan would be best and it allowed them to use a family estate).
-Genesis did get better but as he still got sick quite easily and also was getting bullied by other children, they were referred to a pediatric doctor who specializes is cases like Genesis in the US so they made the move.
-End up near a rural town where Genesis would eventually befriend Andrew Hughes who grew quite protective of him, preventing any further bullying to the “redhead with the weird accent”.
-Things did get better by high school, his asthma largely going away unless he’s panicking or overworking himself. He found a love for literature, poetry especially, and theater.
-This is also when he started realizing he had feelings for Andrew and while Andrew eventually left to join the army, Genesis never quite stopped liking him. They were off and on for awhile, Genesis in the interim dating others but ultimately, when Andrew came back for good, they got back together again and are together now. He’s waiting to hear in Andy wants to move in with him currently.
-Speaking of homes, Genesis’ home is actually the second floor of his bookstore, The Open Book. He specializes in repairing/restoring books along with selling books. Usually used but he will get new books too, more likely the new/popular ones but if he's got the room, he'll get as many new books as possible. Rotates between the genres too.
-His bookstore is one of those hole in the wall places, but it’s by no means tiny. He also sells/serves tea and brews his own tea and mixtures. He’s popular with the old folk.
-Genesis is a bit of a string bean and a freckle face, but despite his health issues and bullying, he’s still a bit of a spitfire and he’s learned self-defense (probably tai chi at his mom’s suggestion) so he’s not a weakling.
-He’s not adopted and loves his parents very much! Also, he'll be coming in with a cast on his arm because he was an idiot and fell off a stool in the store. Andrew will be mad and mother-henning it up. News at 11. LOL
-I feel like I’m forgetting something so I’ll add more below.
LOOKING FOR: friends or frenemies. Maybe someone who used to bully him. Siblings/Cousins/etc???? His store is small enough that he probably won’t need another employee but I mean, I can adjust!

No but seriously, Noctis isn't much of a reader but I can find a reason for him to stop by purely to get CR. I'll be apping 9S from NieR: Automata too and he's definitely a bookworm.

But yeah, I'm sure maybe Genesis and Noctis met at the hospital or some such? May not be too beneficial but maybe Genesis makes a kind of tea for Noctis that at least makes him feel better? Not a miracle drink or anything, but small boosts for like energy or something. Either way, they can bond over the fact that they aren't super well and it sucks and so hey, you see that movie last week?

Noctis is sick for very complicated, "gods are mean in every FF game" reasons that he is fully unaware of. So he's been in and out of the hospital frequently since childhood. It would be great if they had some sort of bond established during an extended stay, and I think the idea of Genesis having made some sort of comfort tea for him is super adorable. Which is to say I am 100% down for it.
That gives him incentive to visit Genesis' bookstore :)
Hell, he'll have someone else he doesn't feel as awkward talking about his situation with.

The comfort tea would be so adorable yes! Eee, I’m excited. Want to have them meet when Noct was a kid (and Gen being around teen years) or sometime later? He didn’t grow up too far outside of Recolle so there’s always a chance they met at the Recolle hospital or something years prior, otherwise something recent is cool too!!

Noctis actually wasn't raised in Recolle! He was born in the U.K., so he was mainly raised there and traveled a lot due to his father being a successful business man.
He has been in the hospital recently, though! And he had a lengthy stay about a year ago. Maybe they ran into each other then?
