AU WORKSHOP - JANUARY Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. Please respond to the post with the below form, and/or feel free to comment to anyone else to work things out! Please be aware that posting to this workshop does not guarantee you a reserve, and that multiple players are permitted to workshop the same character. Please find our mod questions comment here. IMPORTANT INFORMATION World Changes FAQ Game Calendar Plot Finds (ooc knowledge) • Please note: you need a reserve to apply, so please plan accordingly! Reservation dates can also be found on the game calendar and coincide with the TDM. • For current players who are interested in 2nd or 3rd characters, please review and follow our policy about AC! To reserve a 2nd character you must have a pass for the previous month's AC with your first character. For a 3rd character, you must have a pass for the previous two months' AC for both of your characters. In addition, we do ask that the AC for the current month be met and filled into your AC comment by the time of your reserve. It must be full AC. This means you must have 20 comments between at least 2 and at most 4 threads and one memory regain listed for the current month's AC period. Roji | Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation
CHARACTER: Jiro "Roji" Kusano
CANON: Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation
Roji's canon is on the obscure side, so here's a very brief synopsis: Muhyo & Roji is a manga series that involves...supernatural investigation, obviously, but the spin on it is that a concept called Magic Law exists. That's right, we've got magic lawyers in the form of Executors who have the ability to cast judgment on ghosts. Spirits are not only sought out, but also sentenced (and punished accordingly) for their crimes. While Roji is still learning the ropes and plays a more defensive/supportive role, his partner Muhyo is an absolute genius and is considered a prodigy among Executors. The story revolves around the cases that they take on, as well as the development of their partnership.
AU NAME: Jiro "Roji" Kusano, same as canon
AU AGE: 20
AU OCCUPATION: cook at Recollé University's cafeteria + another part-time job of some sort
BLURB:
- Born and grew up in Japan. He's an only child.
- Roji was a pretty good student in school. He particularly excelled in math, science and home ec.
- He was able to make friends well enough, though he was definitely meek and was easily walked all over by his more pushy "friends". He occasionally got picked on due to this, but he tried not to let it affect him too much.
- As he's grown, he's become much more outgoing, always friendly (if not over-enthusiastically so at times) and trying to help others when he can. Though he's still kind of a doormat and too trusting at times. Simply put, he's on the gullible side.
- Finances have always been kind of tight for Roji's family, so early on he knew that if he was going to attend Recollé U like he really wanted to, he'd have to do some saving up on his own as well and try to get some scholarships to help. His parents were able to provide funding to at least get him to Recollé, where he would then be on his own.
- So, Roji moved to Recollé shortly after graduating high school and has since been working several jobs in hopes of saving up to eventually enroll in Recollé University. He wants to major in something physics-related!
Misc. Details:
- Roji's nickname comes from swapping the kanji in his given name around. (Jiro -> Roji) He developed the nickname with a friend in elementary school and still sticks with it today.
- In terms of physical differences from canon, Roji's yellow-green hair is plain blonde in-game. His eyes are still brown.
- He's a pretty well-seasoned cook (pun not intended), and is especially good at making delicious meals on a budget. He does, after all, live on a budget.
- He's got a notorious sweet tooth.
- He has a great fondness for anime and fantasy-based shows. He's definitely the kind of person who will completely remove himself from social media to avoid spoilers until he can watch the new episode of whatever hit show is airing.
- He does a bit of gaming, particularly with mobile games that he can be F2P in.
LOOKING FOR:
- Friends! From Recollé, back while he lived in Japan, or maybe even online! Thrifty friends would also be excellent since he's a regular at thrift stores.
- Acquaintances from the university. Regular cafeteria goers, coworkers, other staff?
- A roommate/roommates. He's here to happily do all the housework that no one else wants to. He'll also cook meals!
- An employer for his second job. A position as a clerk or custodian would be really good for him.
- Maybe some clubs or online chat groups he can be part of?! He'd love to be nerdy about anime, mobages and tech-y things with people.
- If there are any D&D groups in Recollé, he'd love to break into that scene...!
- Etc.! Feel free to hit me up with other things too!

Kurt Wagner and Byakuya Kirigiri are both college students who frequent the cafeteria and could probably chat him up sometimes! Byakuya especially is thankful for the food he brings and probably writes up long-winded reviews of some of his meals for him. Byakuya is also part of the university's anime club, so he could have invited Roji to join if you'd like?

I really like the idea of the possible dynamic that could come from the two of them sharing a space since they seem so different in the way that they present themselves. Roji probably would've found Sakichi pretty damn intimidating at first, haha. But it seems like they also share a good amount of values which is really cool. Roji could eventually try to help Sakichi discover a hobby or just do some social things in general if that sounds like something that could work?

YEAH, sakichi probably makes a strong first impression, but he's also kind of hopeless and has a very narrow field of vision. that is to say he tends not to pay attention to things inessential to his goals, hence his general lack of people skills and hobbies. BUT he does value peace and goodwill, so hopefully he's a decent roommate!! he would be good about doing any cooking and cleaning roji doesn't have time for, though his taste is pretty basic so roji's cooking will be better by far haha.
god i'd love for roji to help sakichi find some hobbies and social things!! i was thinking that if roji would watch and play stuff in the living room, sakichi might sit and join in when he happens to be around... the idea of sakichi trying to decipher anime and games is BOUNDLESS JOY to me and it would make me so happy if roji was his guide to nerdy things
EDIT: I SHOULD NOTE that sakichi has only been back in town for the past... hmm couple months maybe, so they won't have been roommates for super long yet!

Omfg... Just from what you've said about Sakichi so far, I'm laughing at the idea of him getting introduced to the things that Roji is into. Here's an example of an anime he got hooked on in canon, hahaha. He has a taste for cute stuff, I'm so sorry about him in advance... It'd really mean a lot to him if Sakichi did humor him and join in on anime/game time even if he doesn't necessarily Get It at first, though! He will introduce him to all the nerdy things...

pakkun the scallop LMAO... that sounds cute actually?? sakichi would stick around out of pure lack of other things to do, so his ass is roji's!! he may or may not enjoy the things roji is into, but he'll probably end up trying to analyze characters and themes so intensely that he becomes invested in his own way...

hi sorry i was there with a bunch of people like xion and jane foster??? i have no idea if you remember who i am but i remember you because i was jUST AS EXCITED THEN AS I AM NOW that someone else in this wide world knows Muhyo to Roji which remains one of my favorite manga of all time.

I'm totally up for CR! Thinking up some starting points... If they frequent the cafeteria they might've run into Roji working there. He's also going to be joining the anime club so club-to-club interactions could be another place to run into him.

i have keigo here who is also a transfer student from japan (currently in uni himself) so i'd definitely be down for them to have known each other at some point, if you like! i'm most interested in them perhaps knowing each other during their high school years, if you'd want? keigo himself attended private schools, so given that, maybe they could have known each other through socializing outside of school? (i would assume that roji's parents wouldn't have been able to send him to a more private school, given finances) keigo himself had fairly high marks in school, so maybe they knew each other from some kind of academic standpoint? i'm fairly open to interpretation! keigo himself is a fairly flexible character, personality-wise, so i think for someone like roji, he could have been on fairly friendly terms!
i understand if this isn't viable due to how late i am, so feel free to ignore this! /o/ but if you wanna discuss more, i'm def down!

Buddies from back home sounds great to me! It's true that Roji wouldn't have gone to a private school, but the academic angle would totally work! Maybe they could've attended cram/general study sessions together and met that way?
