CHARACTER: Ion
CANON: Tales of ~~Your Life is a Lie~~ the Abyss

BLURB:

-Comes from a wealthy and/or influential family. Either politically or socially I haven't decided.
-sickly as a child and unable to get out much. To minimize his hospital time, a nurse was employed to look after him and he got frequent house calls from doctors.
-As a result, he feels like he's been a burden to his family and wants to find a way to change that.
-For the last year or so he's been doing better health wise, and has convinced his family to let him attend a normal school. (Home schooled up until now)
-Very conscious about how people view him and how that reflects on his family.
-Isolated childhood has left him a little innocent for his age.

All I have right now are a few thoughts I've been kicking around. Not set in stone yet and I am completely open to suggestions. ~~It turns out that 'religious figurehead' is sort of a tough thing to au.~~

LOOKING FOR:

One of my favorite things about this kind of setting is playing around with cross canon connections. So any plotting on that front is more than welcome. Siblings, cousins, former tutors, doctors, internet friends, whatever. An older sibling would be great, and give him another person he has to worry about being a burden to.

OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: I'm always open to crazy ideas.

How would you like Sorey as a tutor or internet friend? o:

Oh my gosh Sorey as one of his tutors would be so cute. Ion had so few friends growing up that a younger tutor probably would've been roped into doing things like playing board games with him after lessons.

OMG... that's so cute... fuck... he'd totally do that for as long as Ion wanted ;;

He'd probably come up with all sorts of things (like low key scavenger hunts) and end up basically being a babysitter too.

That would make his day. And probably his whole week.

Meanwhile Ion's parents wonder why he does so well in history compared to his other subject. When really it's just that he isn't trying to impress his other tutors.

BEST LITTLE FRIENDO EVER...

That was what was missing in TOZ, honestly. All the party were either 17 or way, way, wayyyyyyyyyyyyy older... we never really got the kind of mixed dynamic you get in Abyss.

True.

But I think that's one of the things I really like about the tales series. It's full of familiar character archetypes that are repeated over and over, but the dynamic between them is shuffled differently every time. So each game feels both familiar and different.

Over here I have a fellow wealthy/influential person with a lot of protective instincts and (in this AU) no younger siblings to focus them on. And also a serious weakness for things which are small and cute. I bet they could have met at some social event where Gwendal was lurking away from the crowd or something?

Oh gosh that would be cute. Ion's poor health would've kept him away from a lot of parties so he'd definitely want to pester and talk to anyone who didn't look busy at the ones he did get to attend.

Also if he still make cute stuffed toys in the au, maybe he could teach Ion a nice indoor hobby?

He will totally teach Ion to knit. And pretend he's not embarrassed when Ion turns out to be better at it than he is.

And his first successful project will naturally be given to his wonderful teacher as a gift.

... Um yeah anyway if you want to explore anything in a religious sorta direction I am def interested :3c

The religious angle was something I put a lot of thought into because I wanted to preserve it. But in the end I couldn't think of a way to fit it into the setting.

Hence me trying to replace the weight of that responsibility with a responsibility to his family.

Yeah, that sounds like an incredibly tough thing to adapt to an earth-like world, outside of him being like the new dalai lama or some kind of Heaven-is-Real-kid phenomenon taken to the nth power.

If you find yourself needing any kind of religion-related experience to trigger particular regains though (like seeing Karl in his fancy-dancy Easter vestments or smth), I'd be happy to help out!

That's not a bad idea. Religious things are likely to trigger a lot of Ion's memories. Especially hymns, now that I think about it.

Hmm, would something like this work?

Not a cross canon connection, but!! Buddies who bonded through being sickly and home schooled and how much it can suck?

Of course! Ion would at least make a sympathetic sounding board for all of Luke's complaints.

hmmmmMMM!! i can have Anya be an internet friend? or maybe someone who tries to help him get used to Normal School, depending on how old he is?

I was thinking of putting him around 12-13. Middle school range definitely. But internet friend also works.

internet friends would be so cute. anya would send him encouraging messages when he's staring at school again like! he can do it!! and a bunch of cat stickers
