Welcome to Recollé's AU Workshop! On this post players new and old are encouraged to help one another make connections for their AU lives and to ask for or offer ideas if they so choose. CHARACTER: Professor Augustine Sycamore
CANON: Pokemon XY/XYZ Anime
BLURB: I'm still completely stuck on his AU, so I'm going to give some basic stuff I came up with.

- I was thinking his last name should change into French like Sauveterre.
- I don't know his official age, so I wanted to let him go as a 29-30 years old and born in Recolle before moving to Paris, France to study. He later moved back to Recolle to live there, however.
- He's an only child to a Japanese mother and a French father.
- In his home canon, Professor Sycamore is a Pokemon Professor. So I was thinking that he should be a college professor in Recolle University who specialized in animal biology.
- He's a bachelor and sometimes flirts to some ladies he's interested in.
- He's bilingual, fluent in French and English.

Other than that, I'm stuck. A little help on his AU backstory and personality would be nice.

LOOKING FOR: Some college teacher friends or love interest as well with student friends would be nice.
OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: This is the only character I wanted to be in Recolle for now. I'm still a beginner to this genre and Dreamwidth RP itself.

I would love for Caelum (her AU name here is Ainsley) and Augustine to be friends. She would be older than him by around nine years so maybe was asked to look after him whenever he came back to Recolle before he left for France. Maybe they kept in touch with one another when he was in France studying and she was already working as a teacher. (For elementary students but still.)

I mean... Wow, great idea! How will they meet exactly?

I suppose it depends on how old he was when he left for France and returned! They could have either:

A) known each other since they were kids, more or less. With her looking after him when his parents needed someone to watch over him or she became friends with him all on her own.

B) known each other when they were older when he returned to study and she was probably trying to obtain her licence to become a teacher or working as one by then! Could have met during a Recolle University event that she attended in support of a former student of hers.

But these are just some of the ideas I have in mind. I am just very excited for this CR oppurtunity! ~~Just excuse my delay eep.~~

Well, I like the first idea, but I was thinking he left for France when he was 16-18, so maybe he probably meets her at the university event.

Meeting at the university event is good with me!

Maybe there's a pleasant surprise between the two of them when she learns that he's also from Recolle during their conversation at the event. Perhaps that's how they got to know each other better through that.

Also, I was thinking he tends to lightly flirt her as a joke whenever they meet. Although, he doesn't have to do it often. What do you think?

I think she'll be very charmed and embarrassed by that and flirt with him in return for the name of good humour! Mostly in the form of embarrassing nicknames and inside jokes between the two of them. So I'm good with this angle of their relationship!

So Robin's a high school teacher rather than a college professor, but if he wants teacher friends, Robin could definitely be one!

That's okay! As long she's a teacher, I'm okay with that!

These are some good basic points to have so far! I can't offer too much in the way of CR since Luke dropped out of college and he's about 6-7 years younger than Augustine, but I can offer some help with fleshing out his AU if you'd like?

One of the things that might be good to consider is Augustine's motivations to explain how he got from point a to point b. For instance, why did he decide to move to Paris to study? What lead him to studying animal biology?

Other ways to shape him would be thinking about influences around him. Is he from a lower class, middle class, upper class? Does he have any siblings? How close is he with his family? He's a bachelor who flirts sometimes, but does he ever think about settling down someday?

As for his personality, what's he like in canon? A great way to flesh out his AU personality is to look how he's treated canonically in the anime and what traits he displays and then incorporate them into your AU. Is he very friendly with people or generous? Part of your AU could be that he has made a lot of contacts while he was studying in France and in his spare time in Recollé he volunteers at the animal shelter. Little things like that can help create a fully fleshed-out AU that allows you to grow your character.

To be honest, I haven't thought of that. I tried to come up his reasons to move to Paris and study animal biology and even do a canon review, but I can't seem to find one...

I'm going with either middle or upper class, but mostly upper because I think one of his parents is influential. And I was going for him being an only child, but now that you've mentioned it, he might have a sibling that might influence his decision on studying animal biology or becoming a college professor.

And yeah, I did find him flirting a woman in one scene, but you've got a point there. Maybe he might tone it down when he recovered some of his canon memories or he's once a flirt until he matured when he became a college professor. Are those ideas make sense?

When I watched the anime, I saw him as a cool and helpful guy to trainers and he always shows some determination just to help them out. So yeah, he's very friendly and generous to people.

I might need more help on some points I've mentioned... Sorry about this. Like I said, I'm still a newbie when it comes to mem-loss/AU.

There doesn't have to be a specific reason in canon to support why he would move to Paris! That's something you could reasonably make up in the confines of the AU itself. For instance, he could be going to school on scholarship, or perhaps a relative of his paid for tuition for him to study in Paris very early in his life. With AUs it's a blend of mixing your creativity with what might make sense for the character themselves.

Those ideas do, in fact, make sense! They're a good start to explaining some of his behavior. It never hurts to not only canon-review and watch scenes with your character and notate their personality but also look at the world around them as a whole and how it affects their worldview and their ideals.

What may also be helpful is to go through some of the other workshopped comments on this post for canons/characters you know (you can check out the directory here) and see how the players are incorporating these differences in their AUs! Additionally, we do have example applications on our applications page that display general ideas of how to incorporate an AU and what we look for in our apps!

Oh, thanks! I think I might get some ideas for his AU right now thanks to your advice. And yeah, I'll check some of the workshopped comments if I can.

But one more thing, should I mentioned about the effects of him recovering his canon memories or not? Cause it might affect his AU self if it did.

Since you'll be apping the character in as if they're unaware there's a "right" version of them (i.e. their canon selves), I would personally recommend not writing his AU as if you've already predicted how he'll react to regaining his memories! Our applications have a slot for writing your character's canon history and canon personality which you can use to detail how they are presented in canon, along with the AU section for history and personality. It's best to keep these sections separate.

Okay, I'll keep that in mind. Maybe I'll just pick the former his AU self is sometimes a flirt because it should make a big difference between his canon and AU. Plus, it should be a good character development along the way, I think...
