AU OCCUPATION: haven't decided if he's a zoologist who focuses on field work or deals more in the keeper-and-care end of things

BLURB:

• younger brother of two kids; currently no specific siblings or parents


• has an Appalachian accent instead of a British one, because he grew up in West Virginia ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ REGAIN SHENANIGANS AWAIT


• grew up on a farm. his mom in particular focused on it a lot (and idk, either she or his dad or both are a lil eccentric given his first name), so he dealt with farm animals as a kid and had quite a knack for it. chickens and horses chocobos and their ilk. probably considered being a vet for domestic animals at one point, before he invested himself in the rehab and conservation of wild species


• moved to Recollé either for research purposes (govt grant to study a specific population of animals) or because he was hired by a zoo / facility with good wildlife care-taking policies and credentials. leaning towards the former, since it better facilitates his enthusiasm for traveling, but nearby facilities may outsource to him, depending on his level of expertise compared to theirs


• there aren't really any big, dark secrets in his past, but he's pretty disconnected with it thanks to his move to Recollé


• has a lot of science thoughts about animals. will have a lot of opinions about how Newt Scamander handled things. still awkward when it comes to dealing with humans, so gird your loins for some dude who won't meet your eyes half the time


• isn't too different overall, since his interests and family structure are similar. he doesn't really do the social networking thing, though, and is that guy who forgets he has a Facebook account for like six months before he pops in to post a picture of a snake. cell phones are great because it means he always has something on hand to catalog any unusual critter he's found. also always texts instead of calls


• if he's engaged more in the keeper end of things, he's probably had to give educational talks or smth at the location. he prizes curiosity and enjoys helping people cultivate that, so q&a's with him are pretty enthusiastic


• probs lives by himself in an apartment wherever rent is cheapest, tbh

LOOKING FOR:

• peers, coworkers, friends, neighbors. he probably doesn't know anyone super well because he didn't move to Recollé too long ago (like a year max) and prefers to hide in bushes watching animals instead of socializing at the bar. neighbors have probably seen him wander in at odd hours, but at least he doesn't bring home anything weird? unless someone released an exotic pet and he finds it, anyway


• he's the kind of guy who returns stray cats and lost dogs, so if your pet is an escape artist, he is Your Guy. and for younger characters, he's the sort who would encourage kids who volunteer at rehab centers, museums, etc


• haven't made any official decisions re: Leda drama, but if there's a zoologist or someone passionate about wildlife his age who wants unrequited college crush shenanigans or smth, we can talk??? also wouldn't mind if Newt did get in trouble for something another character did and someone vouched for him, a la Albus Dumbledore


• extended family, possibly (cousins, second cousins, whatever). not really looking for immediate family right now, idk


• anything else that you think might fit with him, tbh. fellow wildlife enthusiasts and/or characters who have seen him on the job (and then Newt ran through someone's camp while trying to capture a research specimen), etc. characters who aren't human(oid)?
