AU NAME: Myca Eliade AU AGE: 23 AU OCCUPATION: Ph.D history student (Byzantine political history)/teaching assistant BLURB: - Not originally from Recolle: ended up coming to the city two years ago after they applied to various Ph.D history programs. Got several acceptances...but only Recolle University gave them guaranteed funding, so their choice was Pretty Easy. - Has been a teaching assistant in RU's history department since they started their Ph.D work: generally they end up teaching ancient history and/or medieval history, but then there was the one semester they ended up with an American history class. Has reputation for being harsh grader. - Adopted child of relatively well-off Greek immigrant, but currently they are rather...estranged from their father and have been for two years. In related news, is somewhat desperately looking for a summer job: they're not yet at the point of their career where they can teach summer classes + a part time research assistant position is definitely not enough to pay the bills. - Also has a moderately popular Youtube channel that they originally started out of exasperation at their students and used as a teaching tool. It was meant to be basically a sarcastic historian's guide to wtf they missed in lecture/discussion section, and then it caught on and they expanded it. - Gigantic bookworm. It kind of goes with their job description, but huge bookworm. - Generally tries to act pleasant, polite, and graceful, if soft-spoken and introverted, but is not-so-secretly prickly and sharp-tongued. Can get exasperated and/or irritated somewhat easily: tries to be even-tempered, is not always successful even if they mostly hide it. - Presents very, very androgynously. LOOKING FOR: Anything, really. Students? Former students? Fellow graduate students? History nerds? Neighbors, etc. I'm open to a lot of things.
