DANTE - Riku of Kingdom Hearts

Which disney character can Dante relate the most to?

I mean, besides himself.

Off the top of my head, as of right now, I'd say probably Jim Hawkins.

He's having a lot of trouble figuring out his place in the world and fighting the idea that what the world wants him to be isn't what he wants, while also struggling because he craves validation from the figures that aren't present in his life/don't see him for who he really is and what he can be, instead of what they want him to be. These struggles manifest themselves in reckless and potentially dangerous ways (let's be honest, if solar surfing were a thing Dante would be on that in a heartbeat!)

If Noah could change any one event in his life, what would it be?

Jim Hawkins is a good one! Also solar surfing would be the best thing ever okay, so I don't blame him.

Out of everything? He would probably change being trafficked, simply because that's several years of trauma anyone could do without. The rest of the stuff is pretty bad too, but nothing's to that level.

If none of the plot of Recolle came up (no app, no regain memories, etc etc), what would you imagine Dante's future being like?

Oh man. That is a great question! It would really depend on the people around him and what happened there. Dante is super lonely and guarded but also craves validation, so he's got a lot of emotional issues to work through. I think he'd still end up in a relationship with Ari, which would really affect his future a lot, depending on the outcome of that. If she was able to deal with him still being sharp and rude to most everyone else, she might be able to help him relax his walls a little bit and let people in. After that, he'd be tentatively willing to make actual connections with people, and it would probably lead to him making a handful of closer friends. He'd still be lost in the world, not knowing what he wants to do or what value he adds to it, but he'd at least have a network of people around him while he figured that out!

However, on the flip side of that, if Ari for some reason wasn't able to put up with him being rude and prickly to people and purposely driving people away from him (which uh. Would be ENTIRELY UNDERSTANDABLE what the hell Dante), it would lead to him locking down even further! He's already slow to trust because he's afraid of getting hurt, so instead of taking the knowledge that it's due to his own behavior and changing that, he'd just hunker in even more and put up more walls to try to protect himself and keep anybody from getting close. Eventually down the line, trying to live so alone from the rest of the world and to not care about what other people think would lead to a fairly self-destructive spiral, and he'd become this really bitter young adult that nobody wants to go near because of how awful he is. His parents might eventually realize that their son has Deep Issues that need to be worked out and talk him into therapy, but by that point... hoo boy. It would be a very, very long process to even starting to heal that.

(I should also add that it isn't necessarily hinging on Ari specifically... it would just be the first person that he started really care about and trust after his grandmother's death, whether that be friend or significant other or classmate or what. Ari's just in the right situation for him to have latched on.)

Do you have any idea of a character arc you want to play out with Noah? Or are you just seeing where the plot will take you and going off of that?

No honestly the reason is because Dante isn't like Riku in that he actually has a little bit of game and isn't opposed to casual sex :| And if/when he's talking to someone that could very well be amenable to it (Arlene isn't exactly subtle herself! X3), he'll play with it and give as good as he gets.

EXPECT THAT TO CHANGE LMAO As Dante regains more Riku memories and traits he'll definitely get a lot less Okay with the idea of casual sex and overtly-suggestive texts.

What's your favorite part of playing Arlene/Larx, and what's the worst?

Favorite: The sass; the excuse to throw gratuitous emoji everywhere.
Worst: Anxiety kicking in about whether I'm going too far, either with the flirting or the callous remarks.

Favorites: SASS. Dear god the sass and the snark and the idgaf attitude. Dante legitimately does not care what people think (well, most people) and it's really refreshing to play a character that doesn't care about making the situation better.

Least favorite part of Dante is that I sometimes worry that people see him as one-sided so far. I mean, obviously I'm cultivating a lot of negative CR just because of Dante's personality, but I do worry sometimes that people see tags from him and go "Uuuuugh, I don't want to deal with this guy again." But that's just me stressing out irrationally more than anything else |D I honestly love playing him so far!

If you could change one thing about how Larxene's been portrayed in KH, what would you change?

Haha yeah I know that feel, like I said I worry about people taking how I play Arlene the wrong way! /anxious brofist

Hmmm... It'd be nice to know a little more background. We have the novel scene where she comments on having a heart being painful, yeah, but I want something canon and not tucked away in a side material that took a decade to even get a translation, you know? Plus members 9-12 got shafted in the backstory department compared to the rest- we don't even get to know what worlds they were from, or their old names! Give me the deets, Nomura.

ACTUALLY THIS IS A FUNNY STORY

So this is actually the second time I've played Dante, though he's developing differently than when I played him in StE. But when I was planning on apping, there was also a Riku Replica that was going to app during the same round! We decided on the whole twins backstory thing and all of that, and for some reason (you know how plurk plotting goes) it came up that oh hey, we've got a pair of silver-haired twins and one of the DMC twins were planning on apping in too with a different name... so we decided to rip the names and name the twins Dante and Vergil because why not

I'm not sure what name I would have chosen otherwise, but I love Dante!! It works so well for what a little shitwit he is.

So what's the deal with Souji and cats? Is there any reasoning as to why he loves them so much, or is it just a really big quirk?
