That's like asking, "Why do you drive a car if you can get in an accident and die?" Apparating is convenient and most witches and wizards do it. Though for some reason I can only go 25 yards. Normally you can go pretty much anywhere. If you concentrate correctly, you shouldn't have anything to worry about.... normally.
