The city of Recollé...

I.
You might've noticed by now that some things in this dear city of yours are a little...weird. Most of the buildings and landmarks around you are only partially visible and the world appears to be covered in all kinds of strange colors.

As you step out the door today, you can't quite shake off the feeling that you're being followed. Every time you turn your head, nothing appears to be in your line of vision but the creeping sensation won't go away. However, with one final well-timed turn you catch it out of the corner of your eye: a large paintbrush dripping in your favorite color, floating in mid-air. The brush doesn't seem to go away no matter how long you look at it, but one of two things happens here.

For those of you who grab the brush, you'll find yourself suddenly yanked forward as the brush guides you to a nearby building, bush, or busy sidewalk, the colored paint splattering everywhere but leaving behind a black finish instead of the original color. The brush has a mind of its own as it brings you right next to a friend or a stranger to get to work. They must have a brush, too.

For those of you who ignore the brush, however...well...it doesn't like being ignored. As you turn away the brush zips forward and begins to paint your face. And your arms. And your clothes? Hopefully someone will come by and try to help soon!

II.
With that exciting chain of events out of the way, it's time to get to work! It's not hard to notice what it is you're supposed to do now. Certain members of the city have paintbrushes similar to yours and only those with brushes can restore the city as it was. Individually painting the area will highlight all items in black, but pairing up with someone else's color will allow for a bit of color to attach. Blending the brushes together will generate new, bright colors that will stick! Two reds can paint an object red while a red and a blue can change an object to purple.

Of course, you're free to go at it alone. There's nothing stopping you from embarking on this journey with your own two hands. On the other hand the longer you work by yourself, the higher your risks become of unearthing something you may not want. One minute you might be painting a garden bench back into existence when suddenly a sound alerts you that something's wrong. The object seems to warp right in front of you, sprouting teeth, eyes, and even sometimes limbs. Non-stationary objects such as vehicles, animals, postal boxes and more will begin to chase painters around all five districts of the city. Stationary objects will do anything to grab you in their grasp and stop your hard work. The only way to soothe these objects is to mix up a new color and douse them with paint, but that just might be a little harder than it looks while you're on the move.

III.

The strange thing is that even with a large portion of the city invisible to the naked eye, by now everyone around you has accepted that this is just how things will go. If you talk to your family or friends or teachers or co-workers who are without a paintbrush, they'll simply tell you that even though it started a few weeks ago there are other things in the city to worry about. They'll tell tales of people with powers and weird physical changes that shouldn't be possible and they'll point out the thinning monsters that are roaming the city and cleaning up the stray paint.

Despite this, life is expected to go on as normal. Classes are still in session and your employers expect you to be at work on time. Grocery stores are up and running and if you can find them several of your favorite businesses are still open as well. Maybe today you're in class procrastinating on a school project, or perhaps you're staring out the window at your boring job waiting for the next time you can catch a break. If you're brave enough, you might be one of those who wanders the half-missing aisles of Freshens because your family still insists on their cookout this weekend. This appears to be the new norm...so what are you doing today in the lovely "city" of Recollé?

IV.
Several citizens have been using their brushes to expand their horizons and paint beyond the limits of the city, working to recreate the roads to go back to other regions. While this will require far more work and dedication, some of the paths are outlined and cleared.

Granted, with the revival of the roads comes the revival of a few other creatures including monsters of varying breeds. Have you ever fought a monster before? No? Well now's your chance! Some of these monsters are easy to take down but others will hunt and attack. While the paint brushes won't do much to deter the creatures themselves, they're useful to paint new hiding spots until you come up with a plan of attack. That counts, doesn't it? Good luck out there.

BONUS.
Perhaps the strangest thing of all is that your phone works. It's fully functional, colored and solid without having to repaint it into existence. Being able to send texts and check maps are vital tools in the restructure of the city, but at the same time it comes with something you may not want.

The Retrospec app appears on your phone and even without setting up a profile you'll find yourself receiving a message from a Retrospec user named Zee Carlisle.

[ back out? hell naw. if there wasn't the chance of fixing this, koga would keep on running. but there's a chance now! thanks to understanding partner paint mechanics and this emu... it wants to be a peacock in it's heart, but definitely and emu to the core (those aussie birds be nasty and dangerous... par of the course). Koga slings his paintbrush over his shoulder like a delinquent, eyeing their target on its warpath. ]

Do we got to strike at the same time, or will this stuff mix if we paint the guy one after the other?

[ understanding recolle spla2n mechanics is important! otherwise they are likely gonna be deda in the dumbest way possible. ]

We just need to paint over each other's strokes.

[ He braces himself, feeling the metal shake under his feet as the odd emu peacock closes the distance, destroying the cars one after the other. Some of it is already outlined, so Akira guesses he should do a demonstration. Lips curled into a mischievous smile, he lowers himself so he can spring over it, streaking a part of it with his red paintbrush.

It doesn't come out as splendid red, but instead a bright orange. The bird bawks once, confused at the sign of color, and stops its rampage to thoroughly panic. ]

Your turn.

[ He lands perfectly on the edge of a trampled car behind it, spinning the paintbrush in his hand like this is nothing. Yes, he's a show-off. ]

Tch.

[ he's grudgingly smiling though, because good work is still good. two can play at the show off game too, even if koga isn't all twirly. he lacks that grace in finesse, but the way he clambers over the metal and takes his little stumbles in stubborn stride keeps his momentum. ]

Gotcha-!

[ He runs right by the panicked bird. but grazes that orange marker left by Akira with his own honey colo. Direct hit! It's now something even more vibrant in hue, with the long streak that koga's brush left also coloring the bird. Like when wet watercolor paint bleeds? At least it makes things easier, time to get the other side. ]

Haha, you're up! Get him good!

[ Meanwhile he'll perch on the hood of another nearby car, waiting for his chance. Bird's either focused on on his new plumage or koga. Chance time? Chance time! ]

[ Before the bird can assimilate to its new colors, Akira paints another outlined piece that he can see. Nice tail feathers you have there, emu thing. As if offended, it cranes its neck up while staring into the distance. It suddenly has a hind? Is this real?

The seeping color is making it feel funny... Not a good funny. It flaps its wings wildly before it tries to peck Koga in the head. Akira is next, but he rolls away... ]

You don't want to do this together?

[ This a the call for an all-out attack. ]

[ Okay so normally Koga's got a lone wolf thing to maintain, and this is a partnership that's forced by stupid painting mechanics at best.

"Like hell I'd want to team up!"

would be the response or something. Can you believe someone would hit the cancel button on that famous Persona prompt...

Well he's actually not gonna be that unbelievable guy though! The peck has Koga duck and back away, but not quite fast enough. It's only a graze, but fake fangs are unexpectedly sharp and get him on the side of his forehead. Oh, that's fucking it. ]

Ow... Grrr, fine! Let's knock some sense into this stupidass bird!

[ He wipes the blood off on the side of face and goes right for it. Mash X to win!!! ]

[ Akira's eyes widen when Koga starts bleeding, but assesses that it's a graze. The pup should be fine, even if seeing it makes him anxious... He forces his attention to the weird emu and readies his paintbrush. Crouching low, he lunges at it on Koga's call.

In no time, the weird creature is painted completely. It calm down immensely, now just positioning itself on the sidewalk like it was never out to kill them. ]

Good job. [ He heaves a sigh when they're done, but beelines towards Koga. ] Does it hurt?

[ Don't mind if he examines the wound. ]

[ EAT PAINT, BIRD. With Akira's lunge, Koga isn't far behind-- he wants payback! the beat-em-up sound effects work for paint smackdowns too...

Somehow though, seeing it now act like nothing was wrong has Koga in a worse mood despite their "victory". Instinctively he tries backing off from the impromptu inspection, trying to cover it with his already bloodied hand. ]

Ngh... Yeah, but nothing ice or cold water can't fix. I was gonna say yes to your offer, you don't have to act like a concerned roommate already.

[ He may have gotten conked on the noggin, but he remembers that! ]

... I think anyone would be concerned, roommate or not.

[ Your hand is bleeding, you idiot? Akira only gives Koga a wry smile with a flat stare, not taking this act with open arms. Usually, he would open his hand and ask to see it, but he doesn't need to.

However, this kind of thing does get old eventually, so he heaves a sigh to prepare himself for the reaction he might get. ]

Promise me you won't freak out?

[ Sliding hands into his pockets, he just needs this solace. Even if Koga doesn't yield, he's going to do this anyway. ]

[ The sound he's making under his breath almost sounds like a dog whimper. An unhappy and reluctantly hurting dog whimper. ]

It's not that bad, I ain't giving the oversized chicken a stupid victory...

[ Koga he's currently strutting around like it's an ordinary day here in Recolle, no attacks here. That sort of question gets him to drop his defense out of curiosity. ]

Yeah, I guess. What're gonna do, make it disappear?

[ Hm. ]

[ Oh, no. Akira isn't sure if he heard that whimper right, but he isn't going to ask. ]

Now you see it.

[ He summons Attis for a short second and casts a Savaltion on Koga. It comes with a soft glow, a warm wave of invigoration, and overall maybe Koga feels like he can run a 10k right now. There may be residual blood, but the wound healed completely. ]

Now you don't.

[ Ta-da. ]

Huh... --uwah!

[ maybe he hit his head harder than he originally thought... okay the bird did it, and now he's losing it a bit? glowing light, renewed energy, and most importantly, the pains's gone. y'know, instantly. He's not gonna yell, but he is stunned a bit. ]

Don't act like it's some dumb magic trick... What the hell did you do?

[ He's just staring with wide eyes, leaning back. ]
