MARCH TEST DRIVE

MARCH TEST DRIVE The city of Recollé... To infinity...and beyond! I. Wake up, get up, get out there, Retrospecters! Today's a new day and with the roads in place thanks to the efforts of Retrospec users, several locations may be explored. With Pesgare three hours south by boat, Respatrum an hour east and underground, Bosuma two hours west through the Recollé Woods and Magatus seven hours north from the city, visitors may come and go to explore the regions and their points of interest. The travel may take some time and the scenery will change around you as you go. Those same monsters from before continue to lurk just outside of the city and on the path to these locations and wild flora sprawls over various pathways. Take some time to study them if you'd like. And speaking of study, along the way you'll find various road signs and warnings along the way including giant man-eating frogs, fire-breathing horses, severe flood warnings and more. In addition you will find large directories in the middle of the road pointing you in the directions of the four locations. However, you'll also find these helpful guys who just want to do a good job and will get to work on these new roads! But wait, shouldn't they be working on some of the unfinished pathways and not the main ones? How do you stop these crazy things anyway? You may have to find a way to subdue the jackhammers or direct them to a new location. Good luck getting them to listen over the noise. II. Then again, with these pathways open now you may find yourself already in one of these new districts and very, very far away from your home. One minute maybe you're driving along, listening to your favorite road trip playlist as you prepare for Spring Break and the next you'll realize a wrong turn has lead you straight into the heart of a snowy mountain. Has this forest always been here? This seaside village is way too crowded! No matter which of the areas you end up in, it will be up to you to find your way out and back without a map on-hand. There's a good chance you can find strangers or maybe even some friends in these regions to fill you in, but there's always something going on to distract from your main goal. In Pesgare, you may find yourself in the midst of a heavy rain shower. While some of you may be prepared and have an umbrella on hand, others will notice that the rain is an iridescent color that falls and curves in arcs. Getting soaked by the rain may invoke a strange desire to cause a scene and yell dramatically at whoever is close by (and perhaps even belt it out if you're unfortunately unlucky.) In Respatrum, the sound of loud cheering and applause draws your attention to a large stadium. In the center of the ring is a man with a red cape, waving it in front of a burning, burly bull. A final flourish sends the bull back into its pen, raring and ready to go the next round. But wait! Without warning, the organizer of the bull fights grabs you by the shoulders and hands you a cape, shoving you straight into the ring with the crowd roaring above you and the bull bursting out of its cage. What a rush! In Bosuma, the creatures of the forest appear to be out and around including rabbits, squirrels, giant woodpeckers and rainbow-colored deer that aren't afraid to approach people. In fact, all of the creatures appear content to welcome these newcomers and show them around the forest. At night, several large, blooming flowers begin to glow in various neon colors. Colored pollen also appears to be falling from the flowers, leaving a mist over you that sweeps over you like a soft waterfall. Depending on the color though, you may find yourself feeling a little different... And finally, what's going in Magatus? Why it's sports! A winter sports competition is going on at the mountain looming above the Magatus ski lodge and the snow is fresh and perfect! However, landing on the slope is probably a bad idea, isn't it? Hope you're ready for a slippery ride down the mountain! III. Back in the city itself, life goes back to normal and several citizens are preparing for spring. The Recollé Community Center has gathered together to start cleaning up the local parks and community areas to plant brand new flowers to brighten up the city. Are you good with a shovel? Come join them in rehousing potted plants, picking up garbage and dead shrubbery from winter's harsh temperatures and more. If planting's not your style, over at Recollé High School several citizens are working together to prepare for the musical production Villainous, as put on by the high school's drama club! Sets still need to be built, costumes need to be finished and advertisements need to be distributed! For you artistic types out there, the drama club would love your support and time to get them ready as the premiere draws closer and closer. IV. Those of you who have lived here for years know that Mayor Mayer loves holidays. He does his best to never miss a celebration of any kind and while sometimes his efforts are smaller and more personal, this year he seizes the opportunity to celebrate an entire weekend dedicated to St. Patrick's Day! Though the holiday is on 3/17, festivities extend to 3/18 for two days of fun. What does this mean? It means that everywhere you go you'll find discounted prices for anyone wearing green, carts selling corned beef sandwiches and cabbage salads, and for those of legal age bars are specializing in green beer and green mixed drinks for miles. Seabiscuit the chocobo rides proudly through the city with the mayor dressed as a leprechaun, encouraging citizens to hunt for his pot of gold that he's hidden somewhere in the city! A series of clues will lead players onward and spreading out through locations such as Expressive, the Towers, Freshens and more. With luck, citizens playing along will find small golden coins emblazoned with a chocobo portrait! Unfortunately, something seems to be in the air and surrounding these coins. Unknown to the mayor, those who pick up these coins will find themselves hit with the overwhelming urge to find someone not wearing green and pinch them as tradition. Whether you're doing the pinching or you're a walking target, the coins' power over you will only wear off when the deed is done. As for the mayor? Anyone who collects more than 10 coins will find that they're eligible for a prize of $50 which can be collected at city hall. Happy BONUS. The nice thing is that if you're in the city or if you're in one of the new regions, your phone works. Where would we be without technology? It's nice to be in constant connection with your friends and loved ones with the ability to check emails, social updates, maps and more. However, the internet can sometimes be a strange place and you will find yourself receiving a message from a Retrospec user named Zee Carlisle. Hey newbies, how's it going? You're probably pretty confused, aren't you? I think I can fix that. It's all the text says before you find yourself redirected to a private chat with another Retrospec user. Don't be shy now! Say hi and ask all of the questions you need! Welcome to the For current players, please remember that TDM threads can only be used for bonus points, not regains. Please note: you will need a reserve to apply, and current characters must have full AC posted at the time of their reservation. Your March TDM directory is here, and your AU workshop is here! Our mod questions thread for this TDM is over here! |

makoto kino ;; sailor moon
[ alright, Makoto has been in this forest for hours, but clearly she's not getting anywhere. She plucks out the petals of a glowing neon red flower with the sort of single-minded focus that could be really useful with more important things... like finding a way out. ]
He loves you, he loves you not...
[ Makoto looks at the last petal with dismay and then hurls the flower onto the ground. ]
Ugh! God, work with me here!! How many times do I have to do this before you tell me something I want to know!!
[ There's a pile of petal-less flowers surrounding her feet, evidence of all this carnage. She snatches up another flower, this time a light blue, and then gets to work once more. ]
III.
[ Walking by? Helping out? Maybe you were just enjoying the scent of fresh soil and fragrant flowers, which sucks because now there's something else to enjoy. ]
Here, could you put this in the compost bin? Thanks.
[ Makoto attempts to push a bag of what smells like kitchen trash into your hands, you're welcome. ]
Bonus.
look, no matter how many different numbers you text me from, i'm not gonna join your telemarketing scam. i don't do that kind of stuff anymore.
[ yeah, she's turning over a new leaf!!! this time without crime!!! ]
Wildcard.
[ idk hit me up and i'll write u a stupid starter?? here's mako's au workshop if you'd like to know what's up with her or want to plan out cr. hit me ]
II
[Ben, tipping back a drink from what looked like a gold-leafed flask, offered very pointless and ultimately useless input to the situation. He had snuck up on and been watching Makoto for a bit but it didn't seem like it was worth interrupting until she had gotten several flowers in.]
So, this is what it's like to watch somebody go crazy in real time.
no subject
Maybe it's because of Ban's comment -- that's enough to get her all riled back up. ]
Look, this is already stressful enough without having to hear stupid comments! So just move along already!
[ LEAVE MAKOTO ALONE ]
no subject
Why're you bugging out, anyway? Shouldn't you be tryin' to find a fake ID to hit up a bar? That's what everybody else is doin'.
III.
No thanks, I don't handle that sort of thing. Why don't you get one of your servants to do it?
[A beat.]
Wait, are you the servant???
[Ashura, that's not how this works.]
no subject
for now. ]
I'm not getting paid for this, so no. [ Servants at least get paid, right. ] Anyway, if you're not going to help, then you should leave. Unless you think it's a good idea to pick a fight with someone who's holding a garbage bag.
[ Not that she'd throw this at him. She's a good something something person now, yeah. ]
no subject
[Ashura's expression changes to something of mortification. Who would ever handle garbage willingly? Without pay? Good Lord, why would you? What cruel world does this person live in?
NO! He cannot let this slide!]
No, by all means, allow me to help! A lady should by no means be forced to work without payment.
[Or... anyone for that matter.
He signals to one of his accompanying servants to take the bag from Makoto. At least he can pay them for it.]
ii
haha you see what I did thereBut so far, Bosuma has provided a whole lot of nothing (or, at least, nothing of his interest), so he's on his way back home, talisman burning in his hand to provide some extra light in the dusk, when a familiar voice catches his attention. Could it be...? She wasn't on the app, to his knowledge, but the regular folks didn't seem to be venturing out here...
He pokes his head into the clearing Mako's in, just in time for her outburst, and looks at the flower massacre at her feet. Yikes. Though maybe it's the heavy amount of red pollen in the air, but the first thing that comes out of his mouth when he sees all of this is:]
... does that really actually work?
[BECAUSE. HE COULD USE SOME ROMANTIC FLOWER ADVICE RIGHT NOW TOO....]
1/2
[ Makoto shouts, about to round on Xiaolang for literally no reason except that red pollen's in her face and her love life is apparently doomed to failure!!!!
she's stressed these days. the magical flowers are not helping. ]
no subject
Oh, Xiaolang! Sorry, I thought you were someone else!
[ someone Makoto would be morally fine with punching... and while red pollen is making her a tad more irritable right now, seeing a familiar face is basically like the best thing that could happen to Makoto right now, aside from the flowers being nice to her. ]
Er... sorry. I've been here for a while... I mean, of course they work, that is -- wait, what are you doing out here?
[ what is makoto doing out here is the real question, but she must ask. let her try and be like a responsible adult for two seconds even if Xiaolang saw her being extremely lame. ]
(no subject)
II!
[Wow, she's really going at those flowers...]
Heh, do you really need a flower to tell you if someone'll love you?
[She's a bit intimidating with how angry she's getting, but, he also doesn't like leaving a girl hanging... so he walks over to her, picking up one of the untouched flowers and handing it to her with a soft smile.]
Someone like you will be able to get a guy without a petals help, you know~?
no subject
Oh... Thanks. [ She'll take the flower, a peaceful white. a balm for her plummeting self-esteem. ] Er, it's not like I'm relying only on the flowers. It's just nice to have that kind of fateful assurance, you know? Like it's destiny that things will end up well, and stuff...
[ why is she babbling...... She's not prone to being open with complete strangers. Maybe it's because he was nice and gave her such a pretty flower??? Her mood is ping-ponging all over the place, and her brow furrows at the realization. ]
Which I guess is stupid in hindsight, haha!
[ HAHA. HA. backtracks furiously while coughing. ]
(no subject)
ii!
Kashuu looks at the pile of deadass flowers with some amount of concern. If they're possessed by flower spirits or something and Makoto's about to get her ass haunted for what she's done, he's so out.]
...Sooo. I'm thinking maybe switch to reading tea leaves?
ghost flashbacks
That's... [ not a bad idea. Thanks be to Kashuu, a sensible bean in every verse. She momentarily stops murdering this blue flower to consider it. Then she clasps her hands together, gazing into the distance... romantically. Or she tries to, despite dead flora. ]
No, it's fine. I can do this. I can't give up even when the entire universe is telling me to! That's how I'll prove myself!
[ LOVE IS ON THE LINE ]
the real ghost was me
ii I had to
[ Kuro, somehow, managed to miss the beginning of her effeuiller la marguerite, which is honestly probably for the best. But he's been wandering around, himself, with more productive attempts at getting un-lost. But seeing Makoto out here? He has to pause in his personal quest to get out of the woods, and make sure that she's fine.
... which, is always an interesting inquiry. Makoto is a pretty tough girl, but, also, probably needs a moment of meditation to focus. He's not sure that will help her very much, although it might stop her from shredding flowers. ]
THANKS 1/2
[ Makoto replies, intelligently and only jumping a little in the air. All the martial arts training in the world can't prepare her for the onslaught of pollen, stress, and Kuro's voice. god damn Makoto knew she said she wanted answers, but she wanted answers of the mysterious fortune variety. Not the 'your crush is literally walking up to you right this second, why don't you ask him' kind!!
He's walking up to her, isn't he. She can't tell if her flushed face is because she's too embarrassed to breathe or if she's possibly overwhelmed by the slow-mo that always occurs in her mind whenever Kuro like, moves or something.
Makoto's struggles intensify. ]
no subject
[ Makoto opts for the "i'm so embarrassed i'm going to die, but first let's pretend nothing is happening." ]
I mean -- I was feeling antsy, so I wanted to play a game. I'm like, so stressed right now! Haha... yeah. Asking the flowers stuff is pretty therapeutic! You should try it!
[ She's clearly very calm now............... ]
bonus
this isn't a telemarketing scam
at the very least retrospec won't be asking for your money?
no subject
wait
what do you mean at the very least? this is just a social media kind of thing, right?
(no subject)
Bonus
no subject
or maybe not??? Most of Makoto's self-righteous anger blows out of her sails at this. ]
oh well. good. you shouldn't get involved in that kind of stuff anyway. the benefits never outweigh the costs! plus the police are pretty good with keeping tabs on social media so
wait if you're not part of a scam, then what's this app for???
(no subject)
III
You. Oh no you don't I'm not touching that. [he backs away.]
And you're not getting my wallet either. I've wised up to your kind you know and I'm keeping somewhere you'll never think to look.
III
No problem.
Oh, is there any dairy in here?
bonus!
I think you have the wrong number this time.
