While he doesn't agree with Yukine's music opinions, he truly thinks Yukine is just such a nice guy. Not getting weirded out when Elliot gushed about music really won some points with him, because he's VERY USED to people acting like he's a weirdo when he gets passionate about music. But Yukine was nice enough to actually listen, and encourage him to do it. Honestly, not seeing eye to eye on a music thing isn't even that big a deal to Elliot. Yukine can keep thinking Creep is not at all a love song to his heart content. He's just happy to got to discuss music with someone.
Not only that, but he sure did see Yukine stand up for him when Prompto kept teasing him, and while he didn't say anything? He was so grateful for it. Elliot really isn't the best when it comes to standing up to people, so people stepping in always makes him relieved because he was feeling pretty piled on. Elliot probably showed his gratitude by trying extra hard to make sure Yukine got fed through the trip, and trying to talk at him during random downtimes.
In other words, while they aren't close yet? Yukine's made enough of an impact that Elliot will be upset when Yukine dies.
