On one hand, Syaoran is easy to troll, and making fun of him is fun because his reactions are so fun. So that's not going to stop anytime soon.
On the other hand, Syaoran is very obviously a responsible person who would help Shinji out despite this, and Shinji would be Upset if anything bad happened to him. If anyone seriously shit-talked Syaoran Shinji would jump in and defend him from the person who obviously has no idea what they're talking about.
Makoto is... a teenager. He's obviously a nice teenager, and if Shinji ever admits to needing help Makoto would be one of his preferred almost-grown-ups to turn to. And he listens to Shinji, which is pretty great...
But getting his doki-doki feelings in his head was gross >|
The irresponsible demon-summoning niichan. Shinji loves being treated with respect, he loves people thinking that he's smart and can take care of himself, he loves being treated to candy, and he loves it when people let him do things he really shouldn't do, such as say hi to demons.
So basically, Nanashi is one of his favorites and at some point his cousins are probably going to break Nanashi's kneecaps.
A responsible policewoman! Shinji totally did not need help that one time, but if somebody had needed help it's good that Cleo was around to help them find their parents again. Cleo is inherently trustworthy.
Do you ever think about how their streams probably don't get watched outside of Recolle anymore?
Also Penelope strikes a good balance between acknowledging and respecting what he can do and pulling the brakes when something is too much for a small child. She's level-headed and Shinji would be pretty likely to ask her for help if, hypothetically, he ever needed any help, which has never happened before ever.
Obviously Sanji is the best tutor because he'll use bad words in front of Shinji??
But more to the point, Shinji likes Sanji. He's an effective tutor, he doesn't underestimate Shinji's intelligence, he's funny and Shinji likes spending time with him even off the clock. His first instinct when somebody makes fun of him (Zoro) is to defend him, and he'll listen to what Sanji says.
also feeding him delicious food won't hurt at all, I'm just saying
okay family doesn't have cooties you are the exception
Sakura is the big sister Shinji always wanted. She's sweet to him, gives him good advice, looks out for him. Sometimes that last one is troublesome - he would've been fine going back! - but he doesn't want to worry her too much, because he loves her.
He's only had one creepy memory with Sakura so far, and it's been relatively straightforward to say 'okay that wasn't actually her, so it doesn't matter to my cousin'. It hasn't damaged his love for her at all.
...I should really make him remember Meltlilith soon.
Shinji appreciates that an adult will rise to the bait and argue with him, an Actual Child. He's reasonably sure that Theo is okay as adults go - probably a hobo or something, but he doesn't see any reason why Theo is bad or likely to own a white van. Just a grumpy old man.
