[ He lifts his chin up, humming softly. His head shakes a little. ] Not all the time. Sometimes, proper consideration should be given to others before oneself.

[ Sprinkling some peas into the mapo tofu combination, he continues: ] However, if you constantly place other's feelings before your own, you will never find your own happiness. [ A pause. ] Let us say that a dear friend of yours is troubled yet whenever you see them, they smile and place all their efforts into making sure you are at ease.

[ His eyes close. ] You may leave the encounter feeling better because of their efforts, but what have they gained in it? They gained in that they can feel better that they did not worry someone, but have they themselves become happier in the process? A small droplet of happiness is not enough to ease all troubles. And so, selfishness is sometimes required to cure the ailment known as kindness.

[ And so he turns around and sets the bowl in front of him. ] Here you are.
