BLURB:

☆Mao is a junior in high school who never really learned how to relax so he's involved in as many activities as he can manage. He's not looking to pad his resume or anything, he just has a chronic inability to say no. In his canon this means he's the treasurer for the student council, the vice president of the basketball club, and a member of a busy idol unit called Trickstar who are trying to overthrow the student government Mao is also a part of (enstars is weird). Obviously here I'm open to other variations on this but I do want him to stay involved in school government in some way. Otherwise, though, are you looking for more members for your ic club? Mao might be just the kid for you.

☆Being involved in so many different things means Mao often finds himself managing conflicts between them as for as much as he'll complain about it, negotiating situations like this is one of his specialties. He doesn't like conflict or things that put him as the center of attention, but if you need someone to help you sort something out, just look for Mao. He enjoys helping people--it's at the heart of that not-able-to-say-no thing. If you asked him, he'd described his leadership style as somewhat involuntary and largely by example rather than because he demands people follow him.

☆He's lived in Recolle all his life, though his family are Japanese. His home life is unremarkable. They're middle class so Mao doesn't want for things but he's also not throwing money around. In canon he has a little sister but here he'll either be an only child or have a sibling here in the game since that is a thing I am 110% open to.

☆His hobbies are pretty tame. He enjoys reading and usually has a book or comic handy for any downtime he might have, and he likes video games well enough but doesn't have a lot of time to play. TV and movies are on his radar but he tends to fall asleep as soon as he sits down to watch them. He plays guitar and enjoys it, and is pretty good at it, but he's shy about showing it to people. Part of him thinks it might be fun to be in a band someday but he doesn't expect it to happen so you won't catch him hanging out in music rooms at school (unless you drag him there)(please drag him there).

☆Mao in a nutshell: A Good Kid. Less good kids who befriend him will find themselves nagged, probably ineffectually, but he's the kind of kid teachers will enjoy having in class. He's the one they leave in charge when they have to go take a phone call but rather than being bossy about it, he just keeps people from setting the room on fire and calls it good. Just don't come crying to him when you get busted because you didn't do the worksheet, dude, he told you and he did his.

LOOKING FOR: People for him to nag, people who will take advantage of him, people who will push him out of his straight and narrow comfort zone into Hijinx Territory, a sibling maybe? People he's in clubs with, other student council people, people who will worry about how much he works, pretty much everything!

I mean I had a thought that instead of basketball he could play baseball but he's not sports anime level BALL IS LIFE so maybe they're just friends instead? He would definitely sigh a lot but he'd also trade manga with him and could easily be convinced to help out with practice things even if he's not on the team. I am also curious about all things hijinxy /grabby paws

SPORTS FRIENDS would be really cute, and also he desperately needs a semi-mature figure in his life...be his less mean kanemaru :'(

Mao qualifies as semi-mature! Do you want them to have met in school or before or...? He's definitely less mean, but he can still do good nicknames c:

God, the tire. It's in every universe. Mao won't know what to think but he's not just going to let you run amuck on your own so siiiigh, where did you even find two tires??

That would work amazingly! Is Mao gonna be a junior or a sophomore? :3c I pulled Eijun from act ii so he's a junior.

(also who is eijun without the tire, they have to exist together)

I need to look at the Recolle timeline but based on what I'm seeing on my tl I thiiiiiink he's probably going to be at the end of his sophomore year becoming a junior in the fall? Since this has an American school year, I think that's what makes the most sense. He's a second year in canon, though, so he should be in the same year as Eijun... HMMM I'm not sure.

Also surprising backstory developments, Mao now has an au older brother who really likes baseball so the odds of him gravitating toward baseball over baskets are improving by leaps and bounds. He'd definitely be an outfielder if he's on the team but this is something else that I gotta think about more. It does mean they're that much more likely to have met earlier, though!

MAO!!! AKA KUMA-KUN'S CHILDHOOD FRIEND! i must have this cr somehow even though izumi's still rude as fuck (though very toned down in this au...)

AH YES I want enstars cr, hi there!! He's older than Mao so I'm not sure how they'd've met but maybe neighbors or knew each other somehow in school before Mizuki graduated or did you have thoughts/ideas/something you're looking for in cr that Mao can provide :D? I'm sure we can figure something out!

HM they could be neighbors! mizuki is bit more well-off compared to mao but he would see mao around helping people around the neighborhood and be a do-gooder and it kind of ticks him off. ew.

appears with new backstory, it's also possible he knows Mao as that kid whose dad got killed orrrrrr he might even know Mao's brother and by association, Mao? Or Mao's mom, who is a teacher at the school so actually he could easily have given Mao a little bit of a hard time for being a teacher's kid on top of everything else. It'd be really unsatisfying because it's just... a fact... so Mao wouldn't care, but it'd make him an easy target and probably put him in the "lovingly bully on," category. (Alternatively/additionallhy/I think it'd be fun: teach him chess, Mizuki!)

him knowing mao's family would be a great idea! just gonna let your mom and bro know... mizuki's parents are often away on long job trips so maybe when he's feeling lonely at home he'll drop by your household sometime and maybe teach you some chess? that would be great

So Cherche and Yata are working out a fun little AU family. I would love for Cherche to have another kid to mom at. Plus it comes with a free big brother.

It doesn't match up exactly with what you have here, but it could be interesting anyway.

Failing that, she teaches home ec at the high school, so she might know him from there.

This actually sounds really adorable! If you're both all right with it, I'd absolutely put Mao into the family! He's a good kid, Cherche, you raised a couple of good ones, and the funniest part is it doesn't really come up in this AU but I always kind of see Mao being a lawyer further down the line so that'll be his father's influence there too, just not quite the same as it is with Yata.

dave's only a year younger at 17 and i think they could be friends maybe? he's into music, and he's pretty friendly and easygoing so he could be a good contrast to someone who takes on so many things?

Oh gosh yes, please teach him how to relax, Dave. That sounds like it could be fun, and I'm definitely interested in having as many musical types around him as possible. Bring on the turntables!
