CHARACTER: Gwendal von Voltaire

BLURB:
* Gwendal is an only child, and as a child had a decent relationship with his parents but wasn't super close to either of them even before his father died. After his father died when Gwen was pretty young, his mother grew at once more enthusiastic in her affections to him and also more inclined to spend time anywhere but at home. Although he knew he was loved, he did a fair amount of the work in raising himself.
* College graduate, degree in business or something bullshit that he pretty much went through because it was expected rather than because it was what he wanted in life
* His family is rich and his grandfather was the owner of a large corporation. His father should have inherited it, but he died young, and it went to his uncle instead, who is currently mismanaging things all over the place. Gwendal wants to take over the company himself eventually, not out of a desire for power but because he feels responsible for the employees his uncle is mistreating. Unfortunately for Gwen, he's only 26, and his ambitious uncle doesn't want him anywhere near anything important, so he's stuck managing a small branch office that doesn't have a lot of relevance.
* He is stoic and collected, and he doesn't suffer foolishness, but he's not actually as grouchy as he seems - his face is just like that.
* Volunteers weekends at an animal shelter. No one there knows who his family is, and he keeps his social circles very separate from each other, at least in part because taking care of animals is something he actually enjoys and he doesn't want to have to put on his game face while there.
* Still knits, still badly, still claims it's to improve his concentration when in fact he just likes making cute toys.
LOOKING FOR: People to stern-big-brother at - a lot of relevant memories will be connected to his family and in particular his canon self's younger brothers. People who will force him to get out of his stoic shell a little in one way or another, give him something to care about or insist that he take up their cause. I am also shipper trash and open to potential shipping with any gender - KKM is a super gay canon, but Gwen is one of the few characters with an actual straight love interest, so I do play him as low-key pansexual.
OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: I kind of want to experiment with what Gwendal becomes with less family to look after, but if you really want to app one of his siblings, I'm not going to discourage you, either. Other castmates are definitely welcome - and ftr I ship with Anissina, Gunter, and Jozak, in no particular order.

Minako would be an excellent person to help bring him out of his shell. Maybe she could stop by the animal shelter he works at a few times when she decides she wants to sneak a pet into the college dorms?

He will totally help her figure out which pet would be best for her living circumstances, and if necessary can be roped into actually helping with the sneaking it into the dorms. He's kind of a softie that way.

Does Gwendal have any interest in kendo/swordfighting in this AU? If not, I'm sure Sorey could know him through one of his other relatives, since he's a nerd who is all over the place.

Watch Sorey be the only person who doesn't notice he's rich, lol.

Hm...physical fitness maybe, but I don't think swordplay specifically. It'd be more about the general idea of being in good condition and able to protect himself and others - in canon, that's the point of swords, but he doesn't swords just for the sake of it.

...if they get to know each other, Sorey's going to wind up triggering memories of Yuuri, isn't he?

Siblings it is! Sorey's kind of somewhere between a nerd and a jock, but I think he'll end up doing kendo more than MMA.

I think it'll be fun if the two knew each other before the start of the game! Ainsley has lived in the city her whole life but comes from a middle-income family and was very focused on her own interests growing up (stars, looking after kids, reading) and wouldn't know him right off the bat as a result. Maybe she's heard of his family's last name from the more well-established newspapers she gets for herself but doesn't put two and two together. For some reason. (Ainsley please…)

She would definitely visits the animal shelter a lot, partly to volunteer and to see if there's someone she can adopt - Preferably a dog to keep her company! She would also try to reach out to him if she was able to notice how he much enjoyed looking after the animals there, serious face or not, or, at the very least, ask for his ear so she can happily chatter on about her time with the kids she teaches because she loves to teach. If she visited the shelter enough times, I can imagine she would bring things for the volunteers during the holidays/breaks as a thank you for all their hard work!

That works! Gwen will be pretty familiar with all the regulars, since he's there a lot to de-stress.

What a blast from the past.. I'm so happy to see somebody play him.

Koutarou has no time to own a pet but he probably drops by the shelter when he has the time, and he's very interested in getting to know people so there's a possibility he has approached Gwen at some point and decided to keep talking to him even if he saw him somewhere else. At least he won't tell him to loosen up very much, though he really isn't acting like he's younger than Koutarou.

I have Many Emotions about this stupid gay demon anime.

I highly encourage approaching Gwendal and trying to get him to have conversations whenever and wherever you encounter him! I definitely want to play him but he's so bad at talking to people T_T so pestering that grouchy guy from the animal shelter is fine by me

I have many nostalgic feelings, made me want to rewatch, too.

Characters that are not very socially adept are so troublesome but it's fun to put them in situations where they have to interact with other characters. I apologize if he gets walked into. It's dangerous to walk and draw at the same time.
