hey ardyn how would you feel about AU family, specifically a pair of nephews

Did you have anything particularly specific in mind?

LAUGHS LOUDLY okay so

in the games we don't know much about the P4 protagonist's family, but he stays with his uncle, his mother's brother, so we know nothing about his father's family at all

in this au, the twins are the sons of powerful and well-known diplomats, expected somewhat to carry on that work.... and ardyn, as you've said, is a political man with a political background. basically: what if the twins' branch of the family is the one he had the falling out with?? which the twins had no influence on at all, maybe their parents or even grandparents...

JUST KIND OF SPITBALLING BUT what do you think

In my original blurb I said that ardyn would only have maybe one older sibling, but in light of this AU workshop I'm thinking to expand that. SO if you wanna claim one of those siblings for the sake of using them as a parent for the twins, then by all means feel free. I can easily tweak things to make that work.

LAUGHS AWESOME, I'M SO GLAD YOU LIKE THE IDEA since i just kind of invented that on the fly and then ended up really liking it... their dad can be one of ardyn's siblings and it's great and slightly awkward for everyone (since i imagine the twins might not know about the falling out).

i've already checked in with souji's mun and she is down with the twins having a weird uncle too so if you are cool with this LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN. please be a good/bad influence on these teens, ardyn.

YES Ardyn will definitely be a good weird uncle -- he won't want anything to do with the twins' parents, but he will probably be fond of his nephews?! Even if there is some slight awkwardness if family is mentioned, he'll do his best not to remark about any of it around them... because why drag in more family drama? He's had his fill of that.

I do have a question, though, re: surnames. Since, obviously, Ardyn's family name is Izunia and it's his brother that will be their father, are we going to have to figure out a way for them to retain their canon names? does anyone in the game even care about this sort of thing

if it comes down to it i can make it where ardyn legally changed his last name in a defiant gesture of distancing himself from his family even more

GOD PLEASE. give them some adult guidance please. i feel like the twins will probably be fond of him in return, like that weird uncle their family never talks about but who is perfectly nice to them so they're just like SHRUGS. they don't really get along with their parents as it is, so...

look, i am excited for when everyone starts getting their memories back, because yu is going to end up feeling like he isn't the "right" version of the P4 protag and that souji is the "correct" version... two brothers, only one of whom can take his rightful place as the hero.... Sound Familiar

THAT IS A GREAT QUESTION ACTUALLY hmmmm. right now we're having the twins take yu's family name, narukami, from their father... (mostly for the sake of fucking up both their mental states later with it when souji seta turns out to be the "correct" protagonist and it isn't yu narukami at all)

it could also be possible that the reverse happened, like the twins' dad changed HIS name when he was younger in order to distance himself from ardyn. UP TO YOU HONESTLY whatever you'd prefer to make it work the best is cool with me!!

HAHA oh god, it's like one regain will trigger another for ardyn sigh. I can't wait for this to happen, though, there's is going to be so much internal conflict for when it does

OKAY, WORKS FOR ME. also honestly yes that is kind of hysterical. the twins probably don't even know in this case, but ARDYN WOULD. that's the best, P4 protags having the izunia name. AU's are awesome.

TBH the best part of playing a villain is the suffering and pain ok. There will be plenty. It's like there will be maybe a sudden influx of all this bitterness but then...hey...he has family that he actually kind of cares about in this world oh no

RIGHT LIKE the idea of the two of them getting their canon memories back and feeling so extremely bitter about everything but also simultaneously really, really caring about their AU families despite themselves is Giving Me Life.

the twins moved to recolle like, maybe a few weeks at most before the start of the game. (over winter break between terms, essentially.) do you wanna say this is the first time they've met up in person?

Yes that will work! Safe to say that they might have chatted over the internet super briefly at some point? Or maybe brushed shoulders on social media or something
