James Sunderland | Silent Hill

BLURB:

He's probably in his mid-to-late 20s. He works as a clerk in an office, pretty typical white collar job. His father runs an apartment complex in a dingier area of town.

He likes to vacation to mountainous areas and lakes. Especially lakes.

His wife died of an illness three years ago. He doesn't like to talk about it, and keeps thinking he sees signs of her everywhere. There's a stripper he used to see at a club with a butterfly tattoo, and he swears she looks just like her. Sometimes he still gets her letters in the mail, and he always saves them for lack of any other option. He's been drinking, too.

He's a little... odd. Socially awkward, not particularly chatty. Tends to just blurt things out and have misplaced priorities. And yes, he will just stick his hands down the toilet if he thinks it's something that would help. Guess plumbing's something of a hobby, huh.

Really hates hospitals. Avoids them at all costs.

He's surprisingly good with directions. Knows his way around the city almost without even trying. Keeps a lot of maps and writes on them.

LOOKING FOR: Fellow oddballs. People to WTF at him. Women to fluster him. Children, especially bratty ones. Anybody else who walked out of a Mountain Goats song.

OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: I've also got Tifa Lockhart on this planning post! I've been running through various characters to AU all day XD

Alas there was not. Her game was more about the direct horror of ghosts, and the more subtle horror of losing your entire identity and all your memories through circumstances you couldn't even control, but could feel happening, until the point your very face itself disappeared under a mask of obscurity.

Also she's the final boss and not the protag, but details!

Ghosts, Incest, and Lesbians: The Game Series has its moments. Still kinda sucks to be the main antagonist, though, but yeah. James did sort of do it to himself, too, the town just sort of... helped out. Thanks, Satan Silent Hill.

BUT SHE WOULD, RIGHT? Like. Slowly realizing she was never alive, she's one of the Silent Hill monsters... and only then because of James himself......

Alas, horror game characters are pretty few and far between and Idk if I have ever seen a Maria outside of... uh. Tumblr I think.

Yeah, I figure it's a long shot, but it'd be pretty neat if it ever happened. Hah, luckily, James has enough shit to deal with on his own before anyone else even says hello.

And then the whole town goes "hold my beer and watch this" as it totally conforms to a bunch of strangers' mental states all at once in different ways. Ice! Fire! Water! ... Heart?

This is definitely true, though. Surprise when the AU memories and the normal ones aren't that different, though. Except that one tiny little detail about how bad James is at pillowtalk, so no wonder he can't get a girlfriend... (ilu, jim)

He should find graffiti somewhere that says "there was a HOLE here. it's gone now" though at some point. js

Can't be any weirder than the phases of the moon controlling the ebb and flow of Sakuya's emotions and memories. I'm pretty sure everyone is going to think she's a werewolf eventually.
