CHARACTER: Penny Polendina

BLURB:

18-19 year old college freshman, studying engineering.
Penny's lived in Recolle her whole life, but has spent most of it on Fort McCoy.
She's currently living in the Recollé University dorms.
She's an only child raised by a single father.
Her father had her homeschooled and kept a pretty tight reign on her social activities, resulting in her being sheltered as all shit even at 18.
She's constantly hauling around pieces of machinery to take apart and reassemble, so she's a lot stronger than she might look.
Corollary to the above - don't get her started about anything mechanical or any kind of neat new technology, she will talk about it for hours and you will likely begin wishing for death.
Her father also made sure she learned proper gun handling and care, so she knows her way around a shooting range.
Personality-wise, she's cheerful, helpful, and outgoing, and completely clueless socially. Expect lots of literal-mindedness and well-meaning but numerous and slightly invasive questions.
She has incredibly high standards, and if you're in any way nice to her you're probably meeting all of them. She's incredibly loyal, but by contrast takes betrayal very seriously and holds grudges for a long time. It takes a lot to get her angry, but god help you if you manage it.
Penny owns a slightly obscene number of romantic novels and movies that can be described as falling into the genre of "teen ____".

LOOKING FOR:
Uuuuh, no family, unless someone here was actually interested in playing Ironwood, I guess. She probably doesn't have many (or any) close friends yet, but she also latches onto people worryingly easily. Anyone looking for a college roommate that switches between exactly two modes of 'covered in machine oil/grease' and 'conservative but ridiculously girly skirts/dresses' would be fun.
And I'm definitely open to suggestions/feedback on the au, if anyone (especially castmates) has anything.

Ainsley is a big bookworm who loves to read so she would be more than willing to recommend stories/books in the romance/young adult genre if they ever run across each other in a bookshop in the past. Ain has been in the Recolle her whole life so at some point they must have come across each other if you're up for that.

Or maybe Ainsley is one of the few who would ask Penny about what she's doing with the parts one day and she just. Listened to what Penny talks about about with clear interest/attention and even asks more questions about it because it sounds neat! Like some of the stuff is definitely beyond her understanding since she's more of stars, arts, and some maths but the passion Penny has for it is really admirable and amazing! She definitely would like Penny and reach out to her/let Penny know she's an ear to go to if she wanted a conversation or talk during lunchtime on the weekends.

Both? Both is good. Met once in a bookstore and chatted romance novels, then later run into each other again when Penny's hauling around an engine block or something. Penny'd definitely appreciate an adult taking an interest like that.

Both is perfect! The two could have ended up exchanging contact info after that to keep in touch to talk more about things and/or just be really friendly with one another now. Ainsley would make it a point to ask how Penny is doing and what she's doing in class.

they could have met in a college class or something? jake loves machines (he insists he's not good at them but likes hearing about them) and also optimism. he'd probably rec cute romance movies to her since he likes them too.

Some kind of shared class would work, yeah. She'd definitely love hearing Jake's travel stories too, especially since she's literally never been outside of the city.
She probably ends up subscribing to his YT channel at some point and makes sure to leave a nice little comment whenever she watches a video.

that's so sweet i love it. he'll make sure to get pictures he took for her too so she can try to visualise things better. oh and when he starts to regain he'll probably want to head to the shooting range with her since. guns sure were a thing for him.

Penny and Weiss need to bond over being sheltered homeschool kids with helicopter dads.

They absolutely should. They need to end up trading slightly terrible stories that Penny doesn't really realize are in any way terrible, because what do you mean her dad might've done some things wrong.

Edit: also I'm not 100% sure how exactly it would happen ~~besides "completely unintentional peer pressure"~~ but I request that Penny somehow gets in on any Pyrrha/Weiss drinking that might happen.

Oh god what a sweet child must protect this one ~~this time~~.

Celeste can be a bit prickly on the exterior, but with someone like this who just gloms on and won't let go, I could see her relenting pretty fast. Maybe they're classmates? Taking a few BS first-year classes together? Regardless, I think this could be really cute.

Also calling it now this woman is totally hopeless when it comes to technology Penny help.

Yes, Penny can absolutely play classmate tech support ~~and probably be way too enthusiastic about going into detail about stuff that's related to whatever the issue/thing might be but isn't actually relevant~~

And she's not quite as clueless as her canon self, but she'll be pretty oblivious to prickliness unless she's explicitly told to buzz off or something.
