CHARACTER: Karl Bergfried aka Father Ignatius
CANON: S. M. Stirling's Emberverse series

BLURB:
- Fresh-faced 20-something Roman Catholic priest straight out of seminary
- New curate at the local Catholic parish ~~which if i have anything to do with it is going to be called Saint Anthony's~~
- Approximately the chillest priest on God's green earth, to the point of it being actually infuriating
- Like maybe if you stripped naked and had a gay wiccan moon orgy right in front of him he would cough and politely avert his eyes, but short of that he is unfazeable
- Never considered himself much of an evangelist so usually doesn't even try, is happy to have a nice philosophical conversation about metaphysics and the nature of divinity with you though
- Secretly-not-secretly a massive nerd, totally would have been an engineer if not for his vocation, used to build trebuchets with his buddies for fun
- Born and raised just east of Salem, Oregon, hung out on his grandfather's farm in the Cascade foothills a lot as a kid
- Has at least two older sisters
- Did some LARPing and renaissance faire type stuff in high school and college, may or may not have been to a couple of SCA events, may or may not have gone by the persona of Father Ignatius, Knight-Brother of the Order of the Shield of Saint Benedict
- Did in fact end up attending the Benedictine monastery at Mount Angel for seminary, had friends who were postulants but never seriously considered formal vows himself
- Despite being "the cool priest" is actually more like your tech-illiterate grandpa when it comes to computers and the internet, just can't seem to get anything with a integrated circuit to cooperate with him, bless him he does try though
- Fixes bicycles

LOOKING FOR: Oh gosh if anyone wants him to be their confessor that would be amazing, as would anyone who might actually attend his parish in any capacity. All other religious or spiritual types who hang out around the Worship Quarter would make great friends and acquaintances too natch, as mentioned above he is chill af with folks of any and all other faiths. Otherwise he could easily be acquainted with just about whoever through churchy-type activities (i.e. visiting hospitals/prisons, youth programs at high school/college, etc.) He may also be involved with whatever local ren faire/SCA/larping scene there is.

OPTIONAL ENABLE ME: Ignatius is the only character that I have a muse for at the moment who'd really fit here ~~and given I haven't RPed at all in literally several years even he's a stretch~~, but that said... well, my old wheelhouses were Yugiohs GX and 5ds so if anybody's got thoughts in that direction I might could be convinced >_>

Hmm, Nina here is from a French Catholic family. She herself doesn't go in for mass that often except for special occasions, but she might've dropped in for confession a few times.

Considering she's kinda got sadistic tendencies and is prone to losing her temper and even recently broke another student's nose, her confessions tend to be... interesting. Oh, and she's gay.

:3! Well I am planning on him having been in town for at least a couple of months at game start, so he could easily have seen her at one of the Christmas masses.

As for confessions, I do have to warn you that in that context he's certainly going to (gently) disapprove of any actual homosexual acts she might have participated in, but 1) I am more than happy to handwave that straight into orbit, 2) whatever he says to her is going to differ very little from what he says to anybody engaging in sex out of wedlock, and 3) short of her walking in and declaring "yes hello I have recently achieved orgasm via sexual stimulation of another woman manipulating my ladybits and it was fucking incredible" he probably won't do much more than sigh in a moderately disapproving manner like your mom who really wants grandkids and secretly wishes that you were at least bi.

No worries about the homosexuality thing. Honestly, she'd probably just stop mentioning it after the first time (and she hasn't done anything more than confess her crush to another girl and gotten rejected). She's not that devout, and honestly she comes to confessional mostly to have someone to ramble at. Besides her therapist, that is.

Okay cool, I just wanted to make completely sure I wouldn't be making you OOCly uncomfortable on account of his IC opinions (which honestly is my #1 greatest concern about playing a priest.)

But yeah, his reaction to her crushing on girls would be more or less be a toned down version of the mom sigh, at this point he'll be much more concerned with the whole punching kids in the face thing. And although he's happy to let his penitents ramble, he will (gently) call her out if she's clearly not the least bit contrite about whatever it is she's theoretically asking penance for.

Have fun with that then. Nina doesn't really feel guilt very easily, though she does possess a certain intellectual awareness of "I'm not supposed to do this." She's also aware there're some things wrong with her.

Yeah. At least it's better than her past life, who was an absolute monster. Actually most of her problems come from being a reincarnation of said person.

You know, something I've kind of been toying with for my AU is a sort of finding faith. I've sort of decided she's going to start the game identifying as a pagan, but maybe meeting she ends up meeting up with him somewhere and a conversation starts to click. Or maybe it doesn't click but she likes him anyway?

:D Karl would be delighted by that! Obviously even more if she expresses interest in converting but really any sort of earnest religious discussion is right up his alley.

Canonically he is great friends with several varieties of pagan (one of whom he has sworn serious-business fealty to and all that that implies) and spent several fondly-remembered months at a Buddhist monastery, so even if the faith she ends up finding isn't his he would still be supportive, if internally a little disappointed.

That would be great! I'd love to do something like that, and just kinda let the end goal play out organically throughout the game.

I'M NOT EXACTLY SURE HOW TO HAVE THESE TWO MEET BUT I WANT THEM TO because peridot is also a huge engineering nerd but she would be baffled by his lack of computer knowledge and would be obnoxiously helpful in trying to teach him about the internet

her family possibly could have attended his parish when she was younger, and they've recently crossed paths again somewhow. if he's at a program at the college they could run into each other again at one of those?

Actually tbh I'm not 100% sure if i'm going to keep that, it's mostly a joke based on his canon: he's from a postapoc earth where all high energy and/or electrical technology no longer functions as of about 25 years ago, so he'd have never interacted with any computer except for mechanical adding machines and maybe some clever punchcard loom type devices. Still, even if he isn't bad at using technology he probably won't be super into it, so Peridot could just be dumbfounded that a guy so into running key ciphers and triple-reduction gearing has less than zero interest in how a raspberry pi works.

Also i'm planning to have him only have moved to the city a couple months ago, so if Peridot remembers anyone it'll probably be the (npc) pastor. He's totally going to drop into some of the local nerd functions at the college tho, so i'm sure there'll be a bunch of chances for these two to cross paths :3

AHA I SEE, in that case she will attempt to demonstrate how obviously great technology and THE INTERNET is, which will include hacking stuff to be like HEY LOOK AT THIS COOL THING I DID but also memes probably, because peridot is embarrassing and would think memes are all he needs to get more interested in her tech...

SOUNDS GOOD THEN, i'm sure they'll run into each other at a few places and wackiness can ensue!
